Well, the first half term has already flown by and I am still amazed and overwhelmed at

Bonfire & Grand Firework Display will take place on Saturday 1st November at

2. The Alex Fund
A group of mums are organising a few fundraising events to raise money for Dates for your Diary
Alex Powderly (6M) who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. We would
like to raise in the region of £4,000 to help Alex, his mum Gill and sister Megan to Summer Term 2009
go on a holiday next summer.
Children return to school:
We are aware that others in the school have been through similar experiences and Monday 20th April 2009 at
any excess will be donated to the excellent children’s cancer charity, CLIC

Year 2 had an exciting visit from the Fire Brigade. They were Children return to school:

Netball News
At last, the Netball C Team have played some league matches. On Thursday they

Jolly Phonics Parents Workshop
Parents of children in Year R came in, for a Jolly Phonics workshop last week. They were able
to learn more about Jolly Phonics and try out some simple, fun, practical ideas to enable them
to support their child at home with reading and writing.
Midday Supervisor
If anyone is interested in becoming a Midday Supervisor here at Norwood, we do have vacancies. If you are available
Monday to Friday between 11.45 and 1.15 pm and would like to work as part of our team, please introduce yourself
to Mrs Bennet. We would also be interested in hearing from anyone who would be willing to do this on a casual basis
just covering for absences from time to time.
Headlice
Please check your child’s head for lice over the half term holiday. After half term, if headlice are
seen crawling across your child’s hair, we WILL be contacting parents to take their child
home to treat the hair. Remember to check the hair behind your child’s ears and in the nape of
the neck - the warmest areas - for live lice and eggs. Use conditioner and a fine toothed comb to
dislodge the eggs and this will ensure that the live lice cannot grip the hair. See your chemist
for further info.

3. Shinewaves Competition Time
Last weeks competition was for a joke that would make the office staff smile even more than usual. There were lots of
entries and after some careful consideration, with a smile factor of 10, the winning joke was submitted by Hannah
Tear from 3R.

‘A’ Team 7 A-Side Football Tournament at Stanley High School

Mrs Rigby reports that after yet again being placed in the hardest group with Farnborough, Norwood battled hard,
only allowing in two goals, in their first game against the 7 A-Side Champions, Farnborough. Norwood’s second
game proved more positive with an excellent strike from defender, Jack Rimmer, to give Norwood a pleasing one nil
win! The final game saw Larkfield take a two goal lead before Norwood’s Matthew Howard drove his fierce shot past
the Larkfield keeper to score a stunner. The game ended 2 – 1 to Larkfield.
Well done to the boys, who were a credit to our school.

The torrential rain of the previous night really made this game much more fun to watch than normal as both teams
struggled to kick the ball out of the large puddles and thick mud. Kew Woods’ team - always one
of the best in our league - played very well and despite some superb goalkeeping from David
Gomersall and later Luke Dempster, the game was one sided. Our other highlight was a wonderful
long mazy run from Josh Knight, who deserved a goal.

Mr. Dumbell’s return to his former school was not a happy one as we were unable to break down Churchtown’s
strong defence, despite a lot of possession. After they went 2 goals up from a fine shot and an own goal, we fought
back well. Ryan Ashall went on a super run from his own half to hit a powerful shot past the Churchtown keeper
before Josh Knight’s right foot drive hit the bar and bounced down onto the line, which was so unlucky. Unfortunately
not enough players showed the energy and enthusiasm to want to win the game and there will be a few changes for
the next match at home against Kingswood on Thursday 6th November.

Walk to School Week
Thank you to everyone who took part in Walk to School week.
The award for the class with the most walkers went to 2L and 3R who both had a total of 125
walkers over the week.
