A former Memphis police officer, Arthur Sease IV, was sentenced to life in prison plus 255 years for 44 counts of civil rights violations, narcotics crimes, robbery, and firearms offenses. Sease conspired with other officers from 2003 to 2006 to rob suspected drug dealers of cash and drugs, which they would then resell. Five other individuals, including three other former police officers, had already pleaded guilty for their involvement. The sentence sends a message that police misconduct will not be tolerated.
