The document discusses the concept of organizational anti-fragility and the limitations of traditional risk management approaches. It argues that organizations need to move beyond robustness and managing constraints to become anti-fragile. Anti-fragile organizations are able to gain from disorder and uncertainty rather than being harmed by it. The document outlines various sources of organizational fragility and advocates transforming organizations at all levels to develop anti-fragile characteristics like flexibility, resilience and an ability to learn and improve in response to stressors.
This document discusses the development of an Identity and Access Management (IAM) framework for higher education and research institutions in Australia and New Zealand. This document provides an overview of the Theory of Constraints (TOC) framework developed by Eliyahu Goldratt. It discusses key TOC concepts like throughput accounting, the five focusing steps for continuous improvement, drum-buffer-rope production control, and critical chain project management. The document also summarizes Goldratt's thinking on topics like constraints, local optima, buffer management, and the benefits of TOC for both managers and team members.
This document discusses challenges with applying Theory of Constraints (TOC) solutions in retail environments. It notes that while TOC distribution is powerful, it is rarely seen implemented in retail. It explores reasons for this, including differences between push and pull systems commonly used in retail versus TOC assumptions. The document also examines issues like long product tails, store-level stock inaccuracies, and challenges with promotions that can complicate TOC implementation in retail. Overall, it argues that while TOC can work for retail, retailers' existing practices often differ significantly from TOC assumptions.

The document discusses issues between automakers (OEMs) and auto parts suppliers regarding meeting sales targets, pricing, and availability. It argues both parties would benefit from increasing sales, including in smaller retail markets, rather than competing on price. Case studies show how improving availability through faster implementation of ideas can boost sales without price pressure.

Agile Network India | Adaptation and Agility in times of Crisis | Abhigya Pok...AgileNetwork
This document discusses how organizations can build business agility to adapt to times of crisis. It argues that focusing on people first through understanding employee needs, promoting emotional agility and a culture of innovation is key. Factors like trust, customer centricity, networks of teams, and open communication also promote agility. Strategic agility in action includes identifying new opportunities, scaling existing products, and accelerating digital transformation. Examples are given of companies that adapted quickly during the COVID-19 pandemic through new product development and processes. Challenges of returning to work are also outlined. The conclusion emphasizes that organizations need sustained commitment to developing flexibility and resilience supported by people, processes and principles to adapt and thrive in times of crisis.
Maximising the opportunities offered by emerging technologies within the chan...Livingstone Advisory
The Australian University sector is heading down the path of seemingly inevitable and fundamental change in both its operating model and role within society. The forces at play are numerous and diverse, fueled in part by the capabilities of modern technologies. These include factors such as increasing global competition for tertiary students, the shift towards a self-funded corporate operating model whilst having to retain academic independence and rigor – all in an environment of the increasing commoditisation of knowledge and intellectual property through emerging vehicles such as MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses).
In the midst of these structural changes, how well Australian Universities navigate through the current swathe of emerging and potentially disruptive technologies whilst mitigating the longer term systemic risks associated with their adoption is not necessarily a trivial exercise.
In this session, Rob Livingstone offered some practical insights into how CIOs of ‘the University of the future’ can play an active part in helping their institutions thrive in the new environment by maximising the upside potential of new and emerging technologies with known cost and risk, whilst simultaneously managing the multiple versions of reality that exist in the new IT environment.

It notes that MSMEs play an important role in the Indian economy but face various OHS challenges. Common occupational diseases for MSME workers include those caused by chemicals like lead and mercury, as well as respiratory diseases. Major causes of poor OHS in MSMEs include a lack of awareness, training, resources and management systems. The document recommends that MSMEs implement an OHS management system based on the PDCA (plan-do-check-act) cycle and integrate it with their overall management. Consultivo is an advisory firm that can help MSMEs assess gaps and improve

How to establish the right governance oversight structure to address corporat...David Doughty
This document discusses establishing the right corporate governance structure to address crises. It asks how a governance program can both prevent regulatory issues and promote a healthy culture, have independence and compliance power, and pool resources across an organization. Good governance can reduce crisis risks and enable better crisis responses by balancing compliance, performance, and growth. Emerging technologies may allow more strategic, predictive regulation by turning data into smart insights. Overall, strong governance through balanced oversight is key to running sustainable businesses less vulnerable to crises.

Innovation, agility, and a fight for survival a love storyv2Curtis A. Carver Jr.
This document discusses innovation, agility, and survival in the face of growing cyber threats. It notes that state-sponsored hacking groups like China's Unit 61398 pose serious risks, maintaining access to companies for over a year on average. To adapt, organizations must constantly innovate and fail gracefully to increase agility. CIOs must sense changes and threats to embrace their dual role of protecting systems while enabling innovation through controlled risk-taking. Threats and change create opportunities if met with the right response.
Part I - Describes where we are today and some emerging trends - conclusions! - We are deeply embedded in systems of systems, some work well while many do not, which is a deep cause for concern.
Part II – We look at the future in terms of how systems might change going forward - we could have utopia or dystopia – Do expect an increase in complexity and systems becoming messier? Will there be acceleration and shorter time-frames within which to act.
Part III - Analysis of why there is dysfunction and how we might shape the future. We look at the evolution of systems and try to understand why they became complex and dysfunctional. Why have we not been able to fix them and what design principles can we use in future design.
Part IV - This part would talk about the fact that we need these systems to work and how we can design and innovate better systems.
Almost every business decision requires executives and managers to balance risk and reward, and efficiency in that process is essential to an enterprise’s success. Too often though, IT risk (business risk related to the use of IT) is overlooked.
While other business risks such as market, credit and operational risks have long been incorporated into the decision-making processes, IT risk has usually been relegated to technical specialists outside the boardroom, despite falling under the same risk category as other business risks: failure to achieve strategic objectives.
This session intends to address business risks related to the use of IT, looking at industry standards, frameworks and best practices, as well as focusing on real world examples and specific plans on how to implement IT Risk Management on every level of your company.
Thai Union is a global seafood company based in Thailand with 17 production locations worldwide and over 50,000 employees. It is committed to sustainability and has undertaken initiatives to address modern slavery risks, including conducting human rights risk assessments, developing policies like its Business Ethics Code of Conduct, and partnering with NGOs. Its "SeaChange" strategy has pillars around responsible sourcing, safe and legal labor, and partnerships. It works to prevent issues through measures like an Ethical Migrant Recruitment Policy and employee training, detect problems using social audits of factories and suppliers, and remedy non-compliances found through programs like its Vessel Improvement Program. It aims to continuously improve practices around issues like forced labor, child labor
The document discusses the mobile industry and how companies are "going mobile" to adapt to changing consumer behaviors and trends. It analyzes the industry and competitive landscape, noting how businesses must utilize mobile technologies to engage customers who increasingly use smartphones and mobile apps. The analysis also touches on challenges in the mobile space like short innovation cycles and network effects that both help and hurt industry players.
The document discusses occupational health and safety (OHS) issues in India's micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector. It notes that the MSME sector plays an important role in the Indian economy but that OHS practices are lacking, leading to many accidents. Common diseases and hazards in the MSME sector include those caused by chemicals like lead and noise. It recommends that MSMEs implement an OHS management system based on the PDCA (plan-do-check-act) cycle and integrate OHS with overall management. Regular risk assessments should also be conducted to identify and address hazards. Improving OHS will require awareness, training, resources, and making it a business priority.
The document discusses issues related to internet security and achieving international cooperation. It notes that the internet can never be totally secure and outlines problems like technological convergence increasing vulnerabilities. Examples are given of critical systems like SCADA potentially being remotely hijacked. The document then outlines various international forums and efforts Australia is involved in for cooperation on cybersecurity issues. This includes information sharing between CERTs, capacity building projects, discussions on standards and laws, and awareness raising. It argues that as more aspects of society move online, international cooperation will become even more essential to create a safer online environment.
