Data are facts and figures that are collected and analyzed. To contextualize data, the 6 W's (Who, What, When, Where, Why, How) must be answered. This provides meaning to the raw numbers and symbols by identifying who collected the data, what information was gathered, when and where it was collected, why it was collected, and how the collection process occurred. Contextualizing data through the 6 W's transforms it from a simple collection of numbers into meaningful information.
