Every party has
a right to contest
elections, but it
is up to people to accept
party or not. AAP is no-
where in mind of people of
Gujarat. Wait for election
results, maybe AAP’s name

New Delhi (PTI): A
court here has pulled up
Delhi Police for not be-
ing able to justify how
eight people, arrested in
a case against the Popu-
lar Front of India (PFI),
carried out unlawful ac-
tivities since they were
in custody when the of-
fences were claimed to
have been committed.
Granting bail to the
accused on Tuesday
, Ad-
ditional Sessions Judge
Sanjay Khanagwal said,
“Nothing could be
shown to prove that the
accused people were in-
volvedinunlawfulactiv-
ity from the date of de-
claring PFI as unlawful
organisation till their
arrest in the present
case.
The court noted that
the PFI was banned on
September 28 and re-
cords show that at the
time of the ban on PFI,
the accused were al-
ready in custody
. Four
were released from
Tihar Jail on the morn-
ing of October 3 and an-
other four on October 5.
They were released at
6.51am on October 3 and
5.10am on October 5, the
court noted.
TheIO(investigating
officer) has not been
able to show sufficient
incriminating material
against the accused per-
sons collected during
the probe that as to
when accused persons
were in custody from
September 27, 2022, and
remained in Tihar Jail
till October 4 or 3, 2022,
then how the accused
persons have carried
out such activities
which are aimed at ad-
vocating, abetting or in-
citing/assisting any un-
lawful activity of the
unlawful organisation,
the court said.
After the PFI was
banned in September,
an FIR was registered at
Shaheen Bagh Police
station on September 29
based on apprehension
of acts to be done by the
members of the unlaw-
ful association.
Police said Mohd
Shoaib, Abdul Rab,
Habeeb Asghar Jamali
and Mod Waris Khan
were arrested in the
case on October 3 after
information was re-
ceived that some people
were raising 'PFI
Zindabad' slogan. The
police said six PFI flags
were seized from them.
Police also said that
Abdullah, Sheikh Gul-
fam Hussain, Mohd
Shoeb and Mohsin Wa-
gar were arrested on
October 5 some PFI flags
along with pamphlets
reading 'PFI Zindabad'
were recovered from
them.
The court noted that
while Shoaib, Rab, Ja-
mali and Waris were re-
leased from preventive
detention on October 2,
Abdullah, Hussain,
Shoeb and Mohsin were
released on October 4.
In its order, the court
also said the material
collected during the in-
vestigation was silent as
to the role of accused
persons in financial ac-
tivities or in advocating
the activities of the un-
lawful organisation af-
ter its ban, being its
member.
It also noted that
there was no allegation
of involvement of ac-
cused persons in any
terrorist activities, and
the alleged offence was
not punishable for more
than seven years.
New Delhi (ANI): In a
case of alleged murder
of a woman in Queens-

statement that the e-
Hospital data has been

the services can be re-

taking some time due to
the volume of data and

New Delhi: As the poll
battle for MCD heats up,
the political lingo is
also taking up quirky
tones and colours. The
intensifying campaign-
ing spree by parties is
seeing high-pitched de-
rision and ridicule of
each other, aptly being
supported by slapstick
jargon.
While the BJP has
flown down its top lead-
ership from various
states to corner AAP
with choicest epithets
like 'Dhokha Ratna' and
'Kattar Beiman', AAP
too has called the BJP a
'video-making company'
and 'mountain of fail-
ures' . These verbal vol-
leys have only upped the
ante ahead of the De-
cember 4 Municipal
Corporation of Delhi
(MCD) polls.
The BJP has been in
power in the MCD since
2007. During its 15-year-
run at its helm, the par-
ty has seen the civic
body trifurcated into
NDMC, SDMC, and
EDMC (2012-2022), and
its reunification earlier
this year.
Several chief minis-
ters and Union minis-
ters have stumped for
BJP candidates in the
past few weeks, raising
the fever pitch while
engaging in political at-
tacks, with the AAP
and its supremo Arvind
Kejriwal often in the
crosshairs.
Madhya Pradesh
Chief Minister Shivraj
Singh Chouhan on Mon-
day blasted the Delhi
CM on corruption, say-
ing Kejriwal should get
a Dhokha Ratna for
creating a mess and
bringing ignominy to
the national capital.
Campaigning for the
BJP candidates, he
said, We have heard
about the Great Wall of
China... Kejriwal has
now become the 'cor-
ruption wall'.
Chouhan also
slammed the AAP con-
venor for defending his
ministers — Manish
Sisodia and Satyendar
Jain.
It is amusing that Ke-
jriwaldemandedBharat
Ratna for Satyendar
Jain and Manish Siso-
dia. Kejriwal should be
given 'Dhokha Ratna
Puraskar' and Sisodia
'Sharab Ratna Pursakar'
for the existing condi-
tion of Delhi, he said.
Citing leaked videos
of Satyendar Jain from
Tihar jail that showed
him taking a massage in
his cell, the senior BJP
leader said, He (Jain)
should get the 'Ghotala
and Massage Ratna'.

t has been a few

in turmoil over the

Women spearheaded the pro-

nationwide support and people
are ready to face bullets and jail

R
ndia’s former coach Ravi
Shastri has set off a big buzz
by suggesting that Team In-
dia should give Sanju Sam-
son far more opportunities.
Team India’s former coach
has urged selectors, BCCI
and the team management to
support Samson for 10
straight matches before tak-
ing a final decision on his
future highlighting the injus-
tice that has dogged the in-
ternational career of the
skipper of the Rajasthan
Royals side in the IPL.
Sanju Samson fans have
often accused the national
selectors of ruining an in-
credible talent like him. Most
experts feel that the ‘Kerala
King’ has not been given
enough chances to cement
his place in the Indian team.
Samson was in tremendous
form this year but the selec-
tors didn’t pick him in the
squad for the T20 World Cup
or for the Asia Cup. This has
happened in a year where he
had a fine IPL season and led
Rajasthan Royals to their
first final since 2008 when the
Royals under Shane Warne
won the inaugural IPL cham-
pionship.
How shabbily Sanju often
gets treated is clear even
from the New Zealand trip
where the 28-year-old is tour-
ing with India’s white-ball
squad. Despite many seniors
missing, Samson was not
picked for any of the three
T20 games against the Kiwis.
In the first ODI game, he was
picked and scored 36 runs
from 38 balls after batting at
number 6 and forged a cru-
cial 94-run stand with
Shreyas Iyer which helped
India reach an over-300 total.
After New Zealand won the
first ODI, Samson was
dropped again - for the sake
of getting an extra bowler.
The team management in-
cluded batting all-rounder
Deepak Hooda in place of
Sanju for the next two ODI
games – for Hooda as a part-
time spinner could provide
cushion to the other five
bowlers. This further adds
fuel to the fans’ anger about
Sanju being treated unfairly
in Team India. Given how
much cricket Suryakumar
Yadav has played lately, he
could have been rested to give
a fair chance to Samson in
the middle order on the New
Zealand tour. The series was
an ideal time to give Saju con-
tinuous game-time in the
middle after years of sporad-
ic chances but the opportu-
nity was wasted.
Sanju made his interna-
tional debut in 2015 but since
then, he’s been given very
few chances. For the T20
World Cup in 2024, the choice
of keeper-batsman will be be-
tween Rishabh Pant, Ishan
Kishan and Samson. Though
Sanju was the first to get se-
lected, he has played much
less games than the other
two. The Rajasthan Royals
skipper has appeared in just
16 T20Is for India. Even Ishan
Kishan has played three
more T20Is than Samson,
while Rishabh Pant has
played a huge 66 games for
the country
.
In contrast to Pant who is
going through a torrid time
in white-ball games, Sanju
scored 179 runs in the six
T20Is he has played in 2022,
averaging nearly 45 at a
strike rate of 158.40. In ODIs,
Samson has a career average
of 66 but this year he aver-
ages 71 at a strike rate of 109
in 9 innings. His stats reveal
that Sanju has done exceed-
ingly well in the limited
chances he’s got but the team
management has hardly
done justice to him.
Moreover, Samson has al-
ways been the kind of player
who doesn’t waste balls,
plays impact innings and can
change the course of a match
in a matter of a few balls. As
a dynamic batter, Sanju can
be sent in both at the start of
the innings or in the middle
order. Despite being a wicket-
keeper, he’s an outstanding
fielder in the outfield.
Sadly, Sanju does not fig-
ure even in the squads an-
nounced for the upcoming
tour to Bangladesh where
India plays 3 ODIs before a
2-Test series. As such, he now
has to wait for the IPL to
showcase his talent.
Given the dismal losses in
the last two T20 World Cups,
Team India needs to change
its style of play from con-
servative to aggressive and
Samson fits that narrative
perfectly. At a time when In-
dia needs to rebuild its T20
team and prepare a strong
squad for the ODI World
Cup in 2023, Samson de-
serves an extended run in
Team India.

New Delhi (ANI): The

Manipur Sangai Festi-
val via video message
today. Labelled as the
grandest festival in the
state, the Manipur San-
gai Festival helps in
promoting Manipur as
a world-class tourism
destination. The festi-
val is named after the
state animal, Sangai,
the brow-antlered deer
found only in Manipur.
Addressing the gath-

people of Manipur for
the successful organi-

pointed out that the fes-
tival is being organised
after a gap of two years
owing to the Corona

Remarking on Ma-

richness and diversity,
the Prime Minister
said that everyone
wants to visit the state
at least once and drew
an analogy to a beauti-
ful garland that is

ister further added
that Manipur is exact-
ly like an elegant gar-
land where one can
witness a mini India in
the state.
The Prime Minister
underlined that India
in its Amrit Kaal is
moving forward with
the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat
Shreshtha Bharat’.
Shedding light on the
theme of the Sangai
Festival which is the
‘Festival of One-ness’
the Prime Minister re-
marked that the suc-
cessful organisation of
this festival will act as
a source of energy and
inspiration for the na-
tion in the days to
come. “Sangai is not
only the state animal
of Manipur but also
has a special place in
India’s faith and be-
liefs. The Sangai Festi-
val also celebrates the
biodiversity of India”,
the PM Modi said.

New Delhi: The steer-
ing committee of the
Congress will decide
when and where the
AICC session will be
held to finalize the
name of Mallikarjun
Kharge. But informed
leaders of the party say
that the convention
may be held by the end
of February or at the
most it will be held in
the first week of March.
This is being said on the
basis that Rahul Gan-
dhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra
is coming to an end in
the first week of Febru-
ary. If there is no hin-
drance in the journey, it
will reach Srinagar be-
tween February 5 and 7
and Rahul Gandhi will
return to Delhi after
hoisting the tricolor
there. The party wants
the momentum created
by his visit to be con-
tinue for several
months more, if not
weeks, and the Con-
gress wants to take ad-
vantage of this in next
year’s assembly elec-
tions.
According to in-
formed sources in the
Congress, the conven-
tion will be held in the
break between the end
of Rahul Gandhi’s yatra
and the budget session
of Parliament. The
budgetsessionof Parlia-
mentbeginstowardsthe
end of January and
from the second week
there is a one-month
break. So, the time is
from the third week of
February to the second
week of March. Along
with this, the party has
to decide where the con-
vention will be held. As-
semblyelectionsaredue
in Kharge’s home state
Karnataka in May next
year, where the Con-
gressishopingtoreturn
to power. That’s why
Kharge’s name should
be stamped by holding a
convention in Karnata-
ka itself. If Congress
makes it a big event, the
party will surely get
benefit in the elections.
Elections are also to
be held in Rajasthan
and Madhya Pradesh
next year. But elections
will be held in both the
states at the end of the
year and Congress had
organized Nav Sankalp
Shivir this year in
Udaipur city of Ra-
jasthan. That’s why
there is less possibility
of convention in these
states. If Congress does
not want to make it a

New Delhi: The DMK has told
the Supreme Court that the

CRUCIAL READ
Ahmedabad (PTI):
The Gujarat Anti-Ter-
rorist Squad has raided
a manufacturing unit
on the outskirts of Va-
dodara city and seized a
huge cache of the
banned mephedrone
drug and its raw mate-
rial worth Rs 478.65
crore, an ATS official
said on Wednesday
.
During the raid at the
small factory-cum-go-
down near Sindhrot vil-
lage of Vadodara dis-
trict on Tuesday night,
the ATS also arrested
five persons from the
spot, he said.
A preliminary in-
vestigation revealed
the accused were mak-
ing mephedrone, also
known MD drug, a nar-
cotic substance, for
the last 45 days in the
factory which was
erected using metal
sheets, the ATS said in
an official release.
During the raid, the
ATS recovered 63.6 kg
of mephedrone and
80.26 kg of its raw mate-
rial worth Rs 478.65
crore, the release said.
The machinery used
for manufacturing the
drug was also seized, it
said.
Those arrested have
been identified as
Saumil Pathak,
Shailesh Kataria, Vinod
Nijama, Mohammad
Shafi Dewan and
Bharat Chavda, the re-
lease said.
The investigation re-
vealed Vadodara resi-
dent Saumil Pathak had
learnt the process of
making narcotic drugs
from the ‘dark web’ and
roped in others after
setting up the unit near
Sindhrot, the ATS said.
Accused Kataria, a
chemistry graduate,
used to work as a chem-
ist at the factory to pro-
duce the MD drug using
various materials,
while the three others
used to handle other lo-
gistical operations, the
release said.
The probe revealed
Mumbai Police caught
Pathak with drugs in
2017 and he was then
sent to jail.

AdaniPortinKerala:Some

New Delhi: The Kerala
police on Wednesday
said they will not allow
a Hindu group close to
the ruling BJP to march
in support of a mega
$900-million port by the
Adani Group amid ten-
sion over protests led by
Catholic priests.
Members of the Hin-
du United Front have
announced a march to
the port in Vizhinjam
to pledge their sup-
port for a project they
say will create jobs in
the region.
Construction has
been stalled for almost
four months by pro-
testers from a fishing
community who say
the port, being built
by Asia's richest and
the world's third rich-
est man, Gautam Ada-
ni, is causing erosion
that has hit their live-
lihoods.
Protesting villagers
yesterday blocked
trucks carrying con-
struction material to
the project site. An at-
tempt by the police to
intervene triggered
clashes in which more
than 80 people were in-
jured.
The police said secu-
rity had been increased
around the port to pre-
vent the Hindu group
from reaching it. Rein-
forcements have al-
ready been sent to the
Vizhinjam area after
more than 3,000 villag-
ers stormed a police
station in clashes on
Sunday.
We have denied per-
mission to the rally by
the Hindu United
Front. We have taken
enough precautions to
prevent it if the front
defy the order, Trivan-
drum Deputy Commis-
sioner of Police Ajith V
was quoted as telling
Reuters.
The port is of strate-
gic importance to In-
dia. It is set to be India's
first container tran-
shipment hub, rival-
ling Dubai, Singapore
and Sri Lanka for busi-
ness on the lucrative
east-west trade routes.
Both the Adani Group
and the government of
Kerala have denied ac-
cusations the port is
causing environmental
damage.

New Delhi (PTI): Finance

confidence that India will
succeed in handling infla-

put in place a “very good
framework” in place to ad-
dress supply side pressures
on food prices.
The retail inflation based
on the CPI has remained
above the RBI’s comfort

that inflation due to im-

crude oil is going to persist.
“We probably will suc-

better and there is clearly a
picture from the RBI that is
on a downward slide and it
will be well within the tol-
erance band by early next
year or middle of next
year,” said the minister
who is scheduled to present
the Budget for 2023-24.
Sitharaman further said
inflation is going to be in-
fluenced by external fac-

of agricultural supplies,

Core sector growth slows
down to 0.1% in Oct
New Delhi (PTI): The
growth rate in the produc-
tion of eight key sectors
slowed down to a 20-month
low of 0.1% in October on
account of contraction in
the output of crude oil,
natural gas, refinery prod-
ucts, and cement, accord-
ing to the official data re-
leased on Wednesday

In October last year,
these sectors expanded by
8.7%. In September this
year, the core sectors’ out-
put growth stood at 7.8%.
Last time it was in Feb-
ruary 2021, when the eight
infrastructure sectors --
coal, crude oil, natural gas,
refinery products, fertilis-
er, steel, cement and elec-
tricity -- recorded a nega-
tive growth of 3.3%.
The growth rate during
April-October this fiscal
was 8.2% as against 15.6% a
year ago. In October, crude
oil, natural gas, refinery
products, and cement out-
put recorded negative
growth rate. However, ferti-

Ahmedabad: In an in-
terview to PTI, Union
Home Minister Amit
Shah spoke of Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi’s popularity, the
all-round development
of Gujarat during his
tenure as the state chief
minister, and the imple-
mentation of zero ap-
peasement policy as the
main reasons for people
repeatedly reposing
faith in the BJP over
the last 27 years.
“The BJP will regis-
ter an unprecedented
victory in Gujarat. Peo-
ple have full faith in our
party and our leader
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi,” said Shah,
who has been criss-
crossing the state and
addressing five rallies a
day in the run-up to the
two-phase polls on De-
cember 1 and 5.
On Congress, Shah
said, “It is still the main
opposition party, but
the party is going
through a crisis, and its
impact is visible in Gu-
jarat as well.” Asked
about Congress leader
Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat
Jodo Yatra, Shah said
sustained efforts are a
must in politics.
“I have always been
of the view that politi-
cians need to be hard
working and it is good
when someone works
hard. But in politics
only sustained efforts
show results. So let’s
wait and see,” he said.
Shah, who has been
talking about issues of
national security in the
campaign for the state
election, said they are
important in every as-
sembly poll. The Oppo-
sition has accused the
BJP of raising national
issues like terrorism in
state elections to divert
the people’s attention
from governance-relat-
ed concerns. “Is the se-
curity of Gujarat asso-
ciated with national se-
curity or not?
“Security of Gujarat
and national security
are not different issues.
And if the country is
not secure, how can Gu-
jarat be secure? There-
fore, national security
is a major issue in all
state assembly polls.
With the Opposition
often accusing the govt
of misusing investiga-
tion agencies against its
political rivals, Shah
said there is an inde-
pendent neutral judi-
ciary in the country
, and
“if there is any misuse
of investigation agen-
cies, then they can ap-
proach the judiciary”.
Shah, who has been
raising law and order
issues in his campaign
speeches, described
ending lawlessness as
one of the achieve-
ments of the BJP gov-
ernment in Gujarat.
TheformerBJPpresi-
dent described the par-
ty’s poll promise to set
up an anti-radicalisa-
tion cell as a good initia-
tive and said any organ-
isation like PFI that
pushes youths towards
terrorism will not be tol-
erated. He said the Pop-
ular Front of India (PFI)
was banned after due
diligence and several
states had demanded it.
On whether BJP’s an-
nouncement in mani-
festo for setting up an
anti-radicalisation cell
in Gujarat will be im-
plemented in other
states also, Shah said,
“It is a good initiative.
Let it be implemented
(here) first. It will be
given a legal shape and
its working mechanism
will be decided.” He
said radicalisation
should be checked not
only in Gujarat but in
the entire country
.
“And it (anti-radicali-
sation cell) can be con-
sidered at the national
level other states. Rad-
icalisation has nothing
to do with any sect, but
we all know which forc-
es are promoting radi-
calisation. And the en-
tire world is concerned
about it,” Shah said.—PTI

Technical,

education in
‘mother tongue’
Amit Shah stressed
that states should
promote education
in Hindi or regional
languages in techni-
cal, medical and law
fields so that the
country can utilise
the talent of non-
English speaking
students. Underlin-
ing the importance
of education in
Hindi regional
languages, Shah
said students can
develop an original
thought process with
ease if they study in
their mother tongue
and this encourages
research and in-
novation. Technical,
medical, and law - all
should be taught in
Hindi and regional
languages. All state
governments should
take initiative to
properly translate the
curriculum of these
3 fields of educa-
tion into regional lan-
guages, Shah said.
The people of Gujarat are
sensitive about national
security. We cannot af-
ford to have national
security affected
at any one loca-
tion. If there
is any misuse
of probe agen-
cies, then
they can
approach
the
judiciary.
The Modi govt decided
to ban PFI after gather-
ing a lot of information
and proof related to
their anti-national ac-
tivities, especially their
activities to push youth
towards terrorism by
radicalising
them. And sev-
eral states
have de-
manded to
ban PFI.
z Carpet bombing of
rallies have happened
in Gujarat. Now what
results do you expect?
JP Nadda: I see that Gu-
jarat’s people are one
sided in favour of BJP
.
Everyone has an un-
breakable love and trust
towards PM Modi and
with that Gujarat unit
has worked a lot. Our
CM Bhupendra Patel,
state president CR Patil
and other leaders have
worked with utmost
hard work and commit-
ment and campaigned
for the party along with
our leaders who came
from outside. Moreover,
the people of Gujarat
have also made up their
mind that they will bless
the BJP
.
z If AAP opens its ac-
count this time around,
will it be a challenge in
the next election?
We do not have any chal-
lenge. AAP goes to every
state, contests election
and claims it will form
government but later
their security on all the
seats gets forefeited. It is
anon-startedparty
.Here
too AAP will face the
same situation.
z Does BJP gain
strength from Cong’s
usage of words like Ra-
van or king of lies?
With the love that people
of India have for PM
Modi, they react to such
comments and so do the
people of Gujarat. But
what needs to be under-
stood is that Sonia Gan-
dhi and Rahul Gandhi
have not been able to di-
gest that Modiji has be-
come PM. Hence they
givesuchstatementsand
othersfollowsuit.Kharge
sahab would give state-
ments which make Soni-
aji and Rahulji happy
.
z What will be the im-
pact of anti-radical
issue mentioned in
your manifesto?
Not only Gujarat, we
think on these lines for
the entire nation. Every
body has cancerous and
TB cells, but if the body
is strong, these cells do
not grow much. Simi-
larly
,inournation,,who
are anti-nationals, they
want to divide India and
to keep an eye on them
there is a need of Anti-
radical cell.
z It is being said that
first phase of poll is
Cong dominated.
What is strategy?
They will not get any-
thing and it will be a one
sided result. People will
support BJP and all re-
cords will be broken.
z How do you see your
Rajasthan tour start-
ing Thursday?
Definitely
,theill-govern-
ance of Gehlot Sahab’s
government has made
the citizens want for re-
lief. Our role is of oppsi-
tion and we will carry it
outwithutmoststrength.
z Where ever we go in
Gujarat, there is al-
ways Modi’s name
everywhere...
Amit Shah: It is but
natural. He is our big-
gest leader and wher-
eever in the nation there
is an election, people
love and like Modiji’s
name and Gujarat is
Modiji’s home state. it
was from here that he
started the developmen-
tal politics in nation. So
it is obvious that people
are happy with Modiji’s
name and feel proud too.
z Is this why Malliar-
jun Kharge targets
Narendra Modi? Per-
haps he cannot see
any other target?
See, the culture of using
fould words that has
been promoted by Sonia
Gandhi and Rahul Gan-
dhi, I feel that as many
times bad words or re-
marks have been made
for Modiji, the people of
Gujarat had given their
decision with an even
bigger majority
. This
time too the same shall
happen.
z Will AAP open its
account?

ronment it does not
seem so. But let’s see
what happens in future.

CONG REFUSES TO LEARN FROM PAST The remark was made by the Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge while campaigning in Ahmedabad. Kharge wondered if Modi had “100 heads” like the villain in Ramayan which is why he asks people to vote in every election looking at his face R ndia’s former coach Ravi Shastri has set off a big buzz by suggesting that Team In- dia should give Sanju Sam- son far more opportunities. Team India’s former coach has urged selectors, BCCI and the team management to support Samson for 10 straight matches before tak- ing a final decision on his future highlighting the injus- tice that has dogged the in- ternational career of the skipper of the Rajasthan Royals side in the IPL. Sanju Samson fans have often accused the national selectors of ruining an in- credible talent like him. Most experts feel that the ‘Kerala King’ has not been given enough chances to cement his place in the Indian team. Samson was in tremendous form this year but the selec- tors didn’t pick him in the squad for the T20 World Cup or for the Asia Cup. This has happened in a year where he had a fine IPL season and led Rajasthan Royals to their first final since 2008 when the Royals under Shane Warne won the inaugural IPL cham- pionship. How shabbily Sanju often gets treated is clear even from the New Zealand trip where the 28-year-old is tour- ing with India’s white-ball squad. Despite many seniors missing, Samson was not picked for any of the three T20 games against the Kiwis. In the first ODI game, he was picked and scored 36 runs from 38 balls after batting at number 6 and forged a cru- cial 94-run stand with Shreyas Iyer which helped India reach an over-300 total. After New Zealand won the first ODI, Samson was dropped again - for the sake of getting an extra bowler. The team management in- cluded batting all-rounder Deepak Hooda in place of Sanju for the next two ODI games – for Hooda as a part- time spinner could provide cushion to the other five bowlers. This further adds fuel to the fans’ anger about Sanju being treated unfairly in Team India. Given how much cricket Suryakumar Yadav has played lately, he could have been rested to give a fair chance to Samson in the middle order on the New Zealand tour. The series was an ideal time to give Saju con- tinuous game-time in the middle after years of sporad- ic chances but the opportu- nity was wasted. Sanju made his interna- tional debut in 2015 but since then, he’s been given very few chances. For the T20 World Cup in 2024, the choice of keeper-batsman will be be- tween Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Samson. Though Sanju was the first to get se- lected, he has played much less games than the other two. The Rajasthan Royals skipper has appeared in just 16 T20Is for India. Even Ishan Kishan has played three more T20Is than Samson, while Rishabh Pant has played a huge 66 games for the country . In contrast to Pant who is going through a torrid time in white-ball games, Sanju scored 179 runs in the six T20Is he has played in 2022, averaging nearly 45 at a strike rate of 158.40. In ODIs, Samson has a career average of 66 but this year he aver- ages 71 at a strike rate of 109 in 9 innings. His stats reveal that Sanju has done exceed- ingly well in the limited chances he’s got but the team management has hardly done justice to him. Moreover, Samson has al- ways been the kind of player who doesn’t waste balls, plays impact innings and can change the course of a match in a matter of a few balls. As a dynamic batter, Sanju can be sent in both at the start of the innings or in the middle order. Despite being a wicket- keeper, he’s an outstanding fielder in the outfield. Sadly, Sanju does not fig- ure even in the squads an- nounced for the upcoming tour to Bangladesh where India plays 3 ODIs before a 2-Test series. As such, he now has to wait for the IPL to showcase his talent. Given the dismal losses in the last two T20 World Cups, Team India needs to change its style of play from con- servative to aggressive and Samson fits that narrative perfectly. At a time when In- dia needs to rebuild its T20 team and prepare a strong squad for the ODI World Cup in 2023, Samson de- serves an extended run in Team India. Nearly 33 years ago, India’s legendary cricketer, Mohin- der Amarnath had famously called the selectors “a bunch of jokers.” It’s a pithy phrase that has been frequently used for Indian selectors since then. Labelled as the grandest festival in the state, the Manipur San- gai Festival helps in promoting Manipur as a world-class tourism destination. The festi- val is named after the state animal, Sangai, the brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur. Addressing the gath- ering, the Prime Minis- ter congratulated the people of Manipur for the successful organi- sation of the Manipur Sangai Festival. He pointed out that the fes- tival is being organised after a gap of two years owing to the Corona pandemic and ex- pressed delight at the grand scale of ar- rangements. “Ma- nipur Sangai Festi- val highlights the spirit and passion of the people of Ma- nipur”, the Prime Minister remarked as he ap- plauded the e f f o r t s and the compre- hensive vision of the Manipur Government and Chief Minister N Biren Singh for organ- ising this festival. Remarking on Ma- nipur’s abundant nat- ural beauty, cultural richness and diversity, the Prime Minister said that everyone wants to visit the state at least once and drew an analogy to a beauti- ful garland that is made up of different gems. The Prime Min- ister further added that Manipur is exact- ly like an elegant gar- land where one can witness a mini India in the state. The Prime Minister underlined that India in its Amrit Kaal is moving forward with the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. Shedding light on the theme of the Sangai Festival which is the ‘Festival of One-ness’ the Prime Minister re- marked that the suc- cessful organisation of this festival will act as a source of energy and inspiration for the na- tion in the days to come. “Sangai is not only the state animal of Manipur but also has a special place in India’s faith and be- liefs. The Sangai Festi- val also celebrates the biodiversity of India”, the PM Modi said. But informed leaders of the party say that the convention may be held by the end of February or at the most it will be held in the first week of March. This is being said on the basis that Rahul Gan- dhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra is coming to an end in the first week of Febru- ary. If there is no hin- drance in the journey, it will reach Srinagar be- tween February 5 and 7 and Rahul Gandhi will return to Delhi after hoisting the tricolor there. The party wants the momentum created by his visit to be con- tinue for several months more, if not weeks, and the Con- gress wants to take ad- vantage of this in next year’s assembly elec- tions. According to in- formed sources in the Congress, the conven- tion will be held in the break between the end of Rahul Gandhi’s yatra and the budget session of Parliament. The budgetsessionof Parlia- mentbeginstowardsthe end of January and from the second week there is a one-month break. So, the time is from the third week of February to the second week of March. Along with this, the party has to decide where the con- vention will be held. As- semblyelectionsaredue in Kharge’s home state Karnataka in May next year, where the Con- gressishopingtoreturn to power. That’s why Kharge’s name should be stamped by holding a convention in Karnata- ka itself. If Congress makes it a big event, the party will surely get benefit in the elections. Elections are also to be held in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh next year. But elections will be held in both the states at the end of the year and Congress had organized Nav Sankalp Shivir this year in Udaipur city of Ra- jasthan. That’s why there is less possibility of convention in these states. If Congress does not want to make it a big event and wants to keep a low profile, then it can be organized in Delhi or Haryana. Protesting villagers yesterday blocked trucks carrying con- struction material to the project site. The party has no problem in dis- tributing tickets on the basis of religion and caste, nor does it have any problem in giving tickets to people with criminal antecedents to win elections. But the Aam Aadmi Party has gone so far ahead in selecting winnable candidates that it has fielded candi- dates with a maximum criminal record in the Gujarat assembly elec- tions and the municipal elections in Delhi. In Gujarat, polling is to be held on 89 seats in the first phase, and out of these 89 seats, AAP has given 32 candidates who have criminal cas- es against them. Out of these, there are 26 can- didates who have seri- ous criminal cases against them. • 9. Jatin Takkar Ahmedabad: In an in- terview to PTI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity, the all-round development of Gujarat during his tenure as the state chief minister, and the imple- mentation of zero ap- peasement policy as the main reasons for people repeatedly reposing faith in the BJP over the last 27 years. “The BJP will regis- ter an unprecedented victory in Gujarat. Peo- ple have full faith in our party and our leader Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi,” said Shah, who has been criss- crossing the state and addressing five rallies a day in the run-up to the two-phase polls on De- cember 1 and 5. On Congress, Shah said, “It is still the main opposition party, but the party is going through a crisis, and its impact is visible in Gu- jarat as well.” Asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, Shah said sustained efforts are a must in politics. “I have always been of the view that politi- cians need to be hard working and it is good when someone works hard. But in politics only sustained efforts show results. So let’s wait and see,” he said. Shah, who has been talking about issues of national security in the campaign for the state election, said they are important in every as- sembly poll. The Oppo- sition has accused the BJP of raising national issues like terrorism in state elections to divert the people’s attention from governance-relat- ed concerns. “Is the se- curity of Gujarat asso- ciated with national se- curity or not? “Security of Gujarat and national security are not different issues. And if the country is not secure, how can Gu- jarat be secure? There- fore, national security is a major issue in all state assembly polls. With the Opposition often accusing the govt of misusing investiga- tion agencies against its political rivals, Shah said there is an inde- pendent neutral judi- ciary in the country , and “if there is any misuse of investigation agen- cies, then they can ap- proach the judiciary”. Shah, who has been raising law and order issues in his campaign speeches, described ending lawlessness as one of the achieve- ments of the BJP gov- ernment in Gujarat. TheformerBJPpresi- dent described the par- ty’s poll promise to set up an anti-radicalisa- tion cell as a good initia- tive and said any organ- isation like PFI that pushes youths towards terrorism will not be tol- erated. He said the Pop- ular Front of India (PFI) was banned after due diligence and several states had demanded it. On whether BJP’s an- nouncement in mani- festo for setting up an anti-radicalisation cell in Gujarat will be im- plemented in other states also, Shah said, “It is a good initiative. Let it be implemented (here) first. It will be given a legal shape and its working mechanism will be decided.” He said radicalisation should be checked not only in Gujarat but in the entire country . “And it (anti-radicali- sation cell) can be con- sidered at the national level other states. Rad- icalisation has nothing to do with any sect, but we all know which forc- es are promoting radi- calisation. Underlin- ing the importance of education in Hindi regional languages, Shah said students can develop an original thought process with ease if they study in their mother tongue and this encourages research and in- novation. Technical, medical, and law - all should be taught in Hindi and regional languages. All state governments should take initiative to properly translate the curriculum of these 3 fields of educa- tion into regional lan- guages, Shah said. The people of Gujarat are sensitive about national security. We cannot af- ford to have national security affected at any one loca- tion. If there is any misuse of probe agen- cies, then they can approach the judiciary. The Modi govt decided to ban PFI after gather- ing a lot of information and proof related to their anti-national ac- tivities, especially their activities to push youth towards terrorism by radicalising them. And sev- eral states have de- manded to ban PFI. z Carpet bombing of rallies have happened in Gujarat. Now what results do you expect? JP Nadda: I see that Gu- jarat’s people are one sided in favour of BJP . Everyone has an un- breakable love and trust towards PM Modi and with that Gujarat unit has worked a lot. Our CM Bhupendra Patel, state president CR Patil and other leaders have worked with utmost hard work and commit- ment and campaigned for the party along with our leaders who came from outside. Moreover, the people of Gujarat have also made up their mind that they will bless the BJP . z If AAP opens its ac- count this time around, will it be a challenge in the next election? We do not have any chal- lenge. AAP goes to every state, contests election and claims it will form government but later their security on all the seats gets forefeited. It is anon-startedparty .Here too AAP will face the same situation. z Does BJP gain strength from Cong’s usage of words like Ra- van or king of lies? With the love that people of India have for PM Modi, they react to such comments and so do the people of Gujarat. But what needs to be under- stood is that Sonia Gan- dhi and Rahul Gandhi have not been able to di- gest that Modiji has be- come PM. Hence they givesuchstatementsand othersfollowsuit.Kharge sahab would give state- ments which make Soni- aji and Rahulji happy . z What will be the im- pact of anti-radical issue mentioned in your manifesto? Not only Gujarat, we think on these lines for the entire nation. Every body has cancerous and TB cells, but if the body is strong, these cells do not grow much. Simi- larly ,inournation,,who are anti-nationals, they want to divide India and to keep an eye on them there is a need of Anti- radical cell. z It is being said that first phase of poll is Cong dominated. What is strategy? They will not get any- thing and it will be a one sided result. People will support BJP and all re- cords will be broken. z How do you see your Rajasthan tour start- ing Thursday? Definitely ,theill-govern- ance of Gehlot Sahab’s government has made the citizens want for re- lief. Our role is of oppsi- tion and we will carry it outwithutmoststrength. z Where ever we go in Gujarat, there is al- ways Modi’s name everywhere... Amit Shah: It is but natural. He is our big- gest leader and wher- eever in the nation there is an election, people love and like Modiji’s name and Gujarat is Modiji’s home state. it was from here that he started the developmen- tal politics in nation. So it is obvious that people are happy with Modiji’s name and feel proud too. z Is this why Malliar- jun Kharge targets Narendra Modi? Per- haps he cannot see any other target? See, the culture of using fould words that has been promoted by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gan- dhi, I feel that as many times bad words or re- marks have been made for Modiji, the people of Gujarat had given their decision with an even bigger majority . This time too the same shall happen. z Will AAP open its account? A: Looking at the envi- ronment it does not seem so. But let’s see what happens in future.
