of science education from formal, to non-formal and informal approaches.
Public engagement has already made a real difference in the governance and decision-making process of
Horizon 2020: providing a space for the citizen to tell us what works and what doesn’t, what’s important and
what’s not.
The report makes a substantive contribution to the policy debate within Europe on how best to equip citizens
with the skills they need for active participation in the processes that will shape everyone’s lives.

Miller discusses the ways in which our beliefs about learning and research — and the role librarians can play in those processes — are symbolized in the ways we choose to plan and design library spaces. Drawing on her experiences at UVA, UCLA and the University of Miami, she will share examples of library space planning and renewal that are creating new opportunities for librarians to engage in new ways with faculty and students. In particular, she will offer practical tips on how library space can embody key concepts in the new Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (http://www.ala.org/acrl/standards/ilframework) and spur growth and transformation of library reference and instructional services. By teaching intentionally through space design, libraries — and librarians — can increase the significance of their roles in the learning and research processes at their colleges and universities.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning is a key part of conversations about education, policy, the economy, and our future. Libraries continue to be trusted venues for lifelong learning — the "living room" of the community in the digital age — and many include STEM among their events and services. As our communities continue to evolve in the 21st century, what are possible directions for libraries and their collaborators to bring STEM experiences to diverse learners? Library professionals from various communities across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and Ireland participated in research to describe the many benefits of offering STEM learning for library customers — and also highlight the many factors that hinder this important work.
This slide set presents insights collected from August - December 2019 through 89 survey respondents and 17 interviewees from public libraries, who participated anonymously in a Fulbright Global Scholar project, which was hosted by the University of Edinburgh’s School of GeoSciences.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

In a tough funding environment for information and records management in government. Where departments have a huge volume of information assets to keep. When the archive sector across the country needs our help to ensure that they can meet their obligations to the record. When the public partly depend on us to get access to the transparent government they deserve.
Our role is fundamental. We have the credibility to do this. And we have an important part in the government’s transparency agenda, as the front-line service for the public record
