 Portal servers & Content Management:-
 An application that is used to develop, deliver and maintain a Web portal.
 It includes a variety of tools and functions.
 A portal may use a search engine API to permit users to search.
 Portals provide a way for enterprises and organizations to provide a consistent look
and feel and control over the procedures for multiple applications and databases,
whether it have been different web entities at various URLs.
 Some of the tools using under this are –

 Content Management :-
 It is used to manage the content of the web site.
 It consists of two elements –
 CMA – Content Management Application
 CDA – Content Delivery Application
 The electronic documents and scanned documents can be formatted into HTML or
PDF.
 Search for data using keywords, the content management system retrieves.
 Application Server :-
 It is a program that handles all application operation between users and
organization’s backend business application or databases.
 It facilitates the hosting and delivery of high-end consumer or business
applications, which are used by multiple and simultaneously connected local or
remote users.
 It provides computing-intensive operations and services to the residing application.
 The application server combines or works with a Web (Hyper Text Protocol) server
and is called a Web application server.
 Some of the tools using under this are I planet, Tomcat, web logic, Oracle 9iAs
Middleware & EAI :-
 It is a general term for any programming that serves to "glue together“.
 It is a common application of middleware is to allow programs written for access
to a particular database to access other databases.
 Middleware programs provide messaging services so that different applications
can communicate.
 It enables the Web server to return dynamic web pages based on the user's
requests and profile.
 Middleware may be installed as a "Services-Oriented Architecture" (SOA)
component on each system on the network.
 EAI (enterprise application integration) act as a hub that translates data and
messages between different applications.
 The advantages of EAI are clear:
o Accessing information more efficiently
o Transferring data and information across multiple platforms
o Easy development and maintenance.
 List of tools using Middleware & EAI –
 Web logic integrator
 Web focus
 web methods

to reach critical business decisions.
 BI systems can also help companies identify market trends and spot
business problems that need to be addressed.
 BI data can include historical information, as well as new data gathered from
source systems.
 Some of the technologies under this are – Informatica, Cognos, Data Stage,
Data modeling, Data mining.
Data Science :-
o Data science is the study of where information comes from, what it represents
and how it can be turned into a valuable resource in the creation of business
and IT strategies.
o Some companies are hiring data scientists to help them turn raw
data into information.
o It centers around evidence based analytical and decision capabilities.
o Some of the technologies under Data science – Social network analysis, R
Programing, Mapping in R, Statistical Analysis, Data Analytics.
 ERP :-
 Set of software applications that organize, define and standardize the business
processes.
 A common database that supports all applications.
 ERP vendors must be experts in their own products and connectivity to other
vendor products.
 Some of the technologies under ERP –
o SAP Security , PeopleSoft HRMS , Oracle HRMS , Oracle Manufacturing ,
Oracle Financials.
