2. Motion is best described if we
include the element of time. In
ordinary conversation, when people
ask for the distance of a place to
another place, say from tagaytay to
manila, most of us often say
tagaytay is a 2-hour ride from
manila.instead of giving the exact
distance, time is usually mentioned
3. People are also interested in how long it will
take for the bus to reach the certain pplace
because it tells them how fast something is
moving. In science anything that is being
timed is called rate. Therefore, to know how
fast or slow a body is moving, we have to get
its rate of motion. This rate of motion is
expressed by mean of the ratio of distance
and time known as speed.
4. distance d
Speed= ------------ v= --
time t
the possible units of speed are cm/s, m/s or
km/h. speed which is measured at particular
instant of time is instantaneous speed. The
instantaneous speed of a moving car is read
at its speedometer expressed in km/h or kph.
When the total distance traveled by a body is
divided by the time interval it takes to cross
that distance, the average speed obtained.
5. SAMPLE PROBLEM
A car moves with a speed of 10 m/s find the distance
covered after 5.0 seconds.
Given:
V=10 m/s
t=5.0 s
Solution
V= d/t
D=vt
=(10 m/s)(5.0 s)
Answer:
The car covered 50 m during this trip.
