Application of the borrowed theory
Borrowed theory is a concept that implies utilization of the pertinent measures that assure
improvement of nursing services delivery. Different theories have emerged to combat with the
current nursing challenges. The paper give a critical analysis of the borrowed theories and their
application in the nursing field. The literature encompass the practical problem and exploration of
the middle range theory in the effort to curb with the challenging situations. In the context, the
paper inspects highlights of the problem, borrowed theory description, depiction of the origin of
the theory and their application.
According to the research, staffing have become an established delinquent from the past
decades. Numerous conclusions are derived to describe the cause of the problem. In this regard,
most of the employers and individuals believes that the effect results due to the emergence of
shortage of the nurses. Research depicts that staffing issue be a scrupulouspartially stemmed by
the operation of the facilities in the healthcare Centre (Newcomb, 2010). Staffing effect remain to
be a major challenge in the field of nursing leading challenging episodes for the patients. Literature
defines the problem as methodical due to operation system adopted in diverse hospitals
(Chism&Magnan, 2009).
Currently, hospitals are operating on a fixate mode that guarantee numerous gain that than
concentrating on patients trending in the hospital. Referencing the association of nurses such as
(CNA), the ration of the patient to nurses was evaluated leading to the reduction of the nurses staff
caring for the patients. The aim was subjected to resolving of the staffing problem and encourage
promotion of the safety of the patients.
3. APPLICATION OF THE BORROWED THEORY 3
According to the research, middle range theory was applied in the effort to exterminate the
upshot. The middle range theory avails and portrays an illustration in relation to the patients and
the practicing nurses. In the effort to resolve nursing problem, meleis transitional theory contribute
positively toward resolving of the challenge. The theory considers management plans and
interaction between the staff and the managers in the quest to resolve availing challenges for the
patients. Thus, it can be deduced that management should allocate approximately an average
patients to the nurses for appraisal of the services. According to the description of the transitional
theory, the model promotes progression of the moderation in the healthcare. The theory
encompasses diverse phase’s representation such as turning point and milestones. The stated
phases contribute acquisition of better services from the nurses.
The field of nursing can be described as one of the primary occupation that facilitate
progression of the education in attainment of the practical goals. In this perspective, nursing
practitioners occasionally scrounge theories in their effort to guide and expand practices
(Stevenson, 2005). The act contribute to achievement of one’s goal and improved services offered
to the patients. However, disagreement emerges from various healthcare providers stating that
adopting the theoretical concepts is unethical act. This misconception is contrary to the factual
ideologies. According to the research, copied theories contribute to diversification of the
perceptions towards elimination of the challenging encounter. In this regard, it is precise that
bandura social cognitive theory can be applicable in solving staffing problem. Banduras theory
ensures evaluation of the staffing problem through analysis of the practical operations. Moreover,
social cognitive theory encompasses definition of additional personal factors and situations that
are circumstantial.
4. APPLICATION OF THE BORROWED THEORY 4
The literature stipulate that borrowed theories emerges in diverse practices that are subject
to methods and nursing believes. The issue of borrowing theories emerged back in 1960 where
controversial statements were initiated to curb with the nursing theories discussions. The primary
role for the shared theory focusses on the requirements anticipated for nursing exclusive theory.
Considering theorists contribution, the appropriate and effective theory that subsidize to
improvement reflects banduras social cognitive theory.
Referencing Albert Bandura, the developer of the social cognitive theory, he was raised in
Canada back in the year 1920s. Hehad trouble while attending his primary school where only two
teachers offered their services to approximately twenty students. Nonetheless, after completion of
the primary school, he attended a university based in Columbia where he graduate with a bachelor
degree in back in the year 1949. Bandura did not stop his education rather he attended Lowa
University and acquired a doctorate degree (Bandura, 2001). After completion of his studies,
bandura concentrated on social learning and defined it as a career objective. He developed the
theory and named it as social leaning theory. Later, he decided to rename it as social cognitive
theory after a process of numerous edition. Bandura acquired a title of a cognitive psychologist
due to his attention to various aspects in his theories. Some of the aspects bandura paid attention
to included mechanism of self-regulation, environmental factors and the motivational factors.
Social cognition theory highlights cognitions associated with behavioristic viewpoints (Bandura,
2003).
According to the research, borrowing of the theories is a necessity that contribute to direct
enhancement of the practical fields. In the fields of nursing, theories borrowed plays a significant
role in establishment of fundamental concept for the management of the feasible circumstances.
Nursing practitioners have realized the benefit of borrowing theories to their daily practices. These

theories ensures and increases proficiency and services delivery for the nurses. Referencing the
previous year, professionals have learnt to borrow theories that contribute to acquisition of relevant
skill that assist resolving of the encompassing disparities. Research stipulates that other
professional fields perform better than nursing due to implementation theoretical approaches.
Nonetheless, nurses have borrowed theories that contributed to improved service delivery.
Efficiency was attained as a result of viewing borrowed theories as a pillar to their practice but not
as a weakness. In accordance to the social cognitive theory, diversified healthcare has applied
borrowed concepts but most importantly computer training has shed a lot of light in the above
notions.
As much as the computer training is termed as a contributor in nursing, description of the
concept has been addressed narrowly in matters concerning social cognitive learning theory. The
main aim for the social cognitive theory entails self-efficacy, self-realization, evaluation of others
behaviors changes, perception influences and performance abilities (Bandura, 2016). In addition,
the focuses of the theory covers strategies that led to effective performances. Nonetheless, the
theory should bring out the best of the persons abilities unlike the computer training, which
influences the persons potentials.
Application of the social cognitive theory leads to elimination of the staffing problem. This
is due to the fact that the theory concentrates on personal approaches to the environment. Evidences
from various sources prove that individual respond differently in distinct environments for instance
individuals from different societies respond to environmental factors as imitation of others
performances. Modelling theory has facilitated through application of videos and commercial
television involvement.in addition, media has played a huge role in the personification of
modelling theory (Bandura, 2016).
6. APPLICATION OF THE BORROWED THEORY 6
Application of the theory gives an opening eye to the superiors to acknowledge the
overload that is in the nursing sector. Thus, management is able to distribute the workload as they
recognize the magnitude of the risk associated with insufficient staffing. In recognition to social
recognition theory, managers are in a position to lay out strategies to curb the staffing challenges.
This eliminate occurrence of the stressful situations and promote patients safety (Emerton, 2009).
. Nonetheless, the stipulated factors needs assessment before application of the strategy in
solving of the issue. According to the Banduras perception, the principle focuses entails of the
theory entails advancement of the health sectors and prevention of emergences of the diseases
(Bandura, 2016). This perception provide a clear understanding to the nurses and the managers the
importance of providing enough time and resources to the patients. They are able to appraise that
failure to spend ample time with the patient contribute to lack of enough understanding of the
patient’s needs. In turn, leading to declined patient’s recovery processes. This contribute to the
poor health promotion and prevention of the diseases. Not to mention, there is a lot of circulation
of patients ending back in hospitals due to lack of incentive in their work. In accordance to the
social cognitive theory, the relative percentage between the nurses and their patients will reduce,
as there will be no overload on both parties.
Patients and nurses will spend ample time and this will be an advantage to those who
practice nursing, as they will apply their knowledge and expertise reducing the growing rate of
patients being admitted in hospitals due to wrong diagnosis of the respective health sector (Gralton
& Brett, 2012). According to the learning cognitive theory, the focus entails healthcare growth and
regulation of disease development in respect to the social cognitive theory, which only analyses
the abilities, and behaviors of an individual.
7. APPLICATION OF THE BORROWED THEORY 7
Promotion of health and prevention of disease has grown over the years due to the
psychological and social models in the health sector rendering it elastic to changes (Schumacher,
2000). According to the Bandura perceptions, nurses are able to acquire diverse skills that allow
them to provide better services to the patients. Through application of diverse pathways,
progression of changes have been realized in the attempt to address challenging concept associated
with nurse patient interactions. The overall growth and changes in the health sector has led to a
good relationship between the nurses and the patients.
Referencing the social cognitive theory, the focus also shifts towards assessment of the
personal elements and social structure. Health promotion is greatly influenced by the social
cognitive theory in order to give a comprehensive outline on how the nurses practice and offer
their services to the relevant patients.Patients’ mundane maybe altered as the social cognitive
theory has few negative impressions on health, which is of little concern as they are adjusted by
the transition theory. The transition theory is bestowed at transforming patients in terms of health
and psychological changes. The theory (transition) has a great effect between the nurses and
patients as it outlines the steps and strides that both parties will take for a healthy impact on the
patient without ignoring even the slightest of ideas. Since there is a healthy and strong relationship
between the nurses and the patients, the bond lets them speak out hence reducing the chances of
being misdiagnosed or even misunderstandings between them. Thus it clear that application of the
theoretical concept play a major role in the staffing. Nurses are able to utilize learned concept and
offer quality services to their clients. In addition, diversification and integration of different
theoretical concept lead to promotion and understanding of different cultures and their roles in the
society.
