APPENDIX B – Firm Project
Imagine that you have been hired to consult a Fortune 500 firm. The firm needs strategic advice related
to external and internal problems. Your task is to identify the problems and propose solutions. Some of
the executives did not attend business school at USM, so you will need to provide clear and
comprehensive explanations for your recommendations. If you impress them, you will collect your fee
and probably be invited for future engagements. If not, you have wasted valuable time and injured your
professional reputation with many involved parties. You might even lose your apartment.
I am giving you the freedom to choose your own firm for this project, but no two students will analyze
the same firm. You are limited to the 2021 Fortune 500 (see list under the Documents module in
Canvas), and you must email me your “Top 5” list of prioritized choices as soon as possible. The first
student to choose a firm (as evidenced by time/date stamp on the email to [email protected]) will
get to analyze that firm. The deadline for choosing your firm is 9/18/2022.
You may use any source of information and must document your sources and references appropriately.
The finished product will be an original analysis paper that will ultimately be the primary content of your
Presentation. The Firm Project paper must be submitted electronically through the Turnitin Assignment
link found in the Canvas writing module by 11:59pm on 11/20/2022.
The required format of the paper is as follows: 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, margin
of 1” on all sides, and page numbers in the lower right corner of each page. The paper should be
consistent and compliant with APA, MLA, or some such other common writing standard for manuscripts
in an academic context. You must use current firm-specific accounting data (as of 12/31/2021 if
available) as appropriate for the firm analysis. The length of the properly formatted Firm Project
document should be approximately 20-25 pages.

2. Identify and explain management problems and solutions in
the focal firm (60%)
a. External environment: Choose one problem from any two of
the following areas:
i. Political factors
ii. Economic factors
iii. Sociocultural factors
iv. Technological factors
v. Ecological factors
vi. Legal factors
b. Internal environment: Choose one problem from any two of
the following areas:

iii. Operations
iv. Marketing
v. Human Resources
vi. Finance
vii. Accounting
viii. Information Technology
ix. Research and Development
c. You will identify a total of FOUR problems: two external and
two internal.
d. Why does each of the four identified problems exist?
i. Who are the stakeholders involved in each problem that you
have identified?
1. There MUST be at least two stakeholders involved for a
problem to exist
in the first place.
a. Examples include: Investors, Creditors, Customers, Suppliers,
Employees, Partners, Governments, Communities, Media, etc.
ii. What are the competing demands of the stakeholders
involved?
1. Stakeholders must have competing (mutually exclusive)
demands for a
problem to exist.
a. If mutually exclusive demands of involved legitimate
stakeholders do not exist, then the “problem” is not worth
6. management’s attention to address and resolve and is, thus,
NOT a real problem.
iii. For each problem, is the firm pursuing the best strategic
solution?
1. If yes, then IDENTIFY, EXPLAIN, and DEFEND the firm’s
choice.
2. If no, then IDENTIFY, EXPLAIN, and DEFEND a better
strategy.
e. Predict the future of EACH problem and solution.
i. If the global economy contracts, how should each strategic
solution be shifted?
ii. If the global economy expands, how should each strategic
solution be shifted?
NOTE: Do not forget your role in this imagined assignment.
You are a consultant who has been hired to
identify problems and propose strategic solutions. You are NOT
a cheerleader or a public relations
manager or an internal sales champion or a member of the
human resources staff. You should be cool
and dispassionate as you analyze the firm. Your singular focus
is the sustained competitive advantage of
the firm that has hired you. The fact-based realities of global
business are not always nice and happy
and covered with unicorns and rainbows. As you do the hard
and necessary work to create value for the
firm and its stakeholders, keep in mind that your solutions may
ruin someone’s year. So be it.
Be the smartest person in the room… The one the firm cannot
imagine life without. #MBA #ToTheTop

9. INTRODUCTION
In this report, we will go through an example of a DXC
Technology firm project that may be used to gauge an
organization's penchant for the platform and some of the
optional methods for making the most of it. DXC Technology
has been working on various projects for its clientele in this
endeavor. As a consequence of this cutting-edge upgrade, DXC
communities have been able to achieve more positive outcomes
in different contexts. With exceptional execution and various
event levels to accommodate these preferences, we provide our
customers with everything they need, even the accessories.
More than 6,000 users from all walks of life, including residents
of more than 80 different countries' state residences, are
assisted by this community's locked-down, communal services.
DXC Preferred works with and provides its community to
several other businesses.
This group locked up more than two hundred writings and
hunting gear. Companies like HCL, H.P., and HPE are crucial
partners (DXC, 2022). DXC Technology continues to be one of
the corporate data law firms, making possible this mutually
advantageous connection amongst the top 500 communities
worldwide. DXC's mission is to serve its clients. The company's
rewards are the satisfaction of its customers and the successful
resolution of their concerns before and after making a purchase
(DXC, 2022).History
Originating from a merger between CSC and H.P. Enterprise's
10. Enterprise Services venture, DXC Technology has achieved
considerable success in distance traveled, financial reporting,
and transport and payment services. In 1959, Roy Nutt and
Fletcher Jones pooled $100 to start CSC, enabling designers of
P.C. structures to use tools and compilers specified in rather
complicated ways. CSC has expanded rapidly over the last five
decades because of solid leadership and a focus on expanding
into new international markets (DXC, 2022). Ross Perot was
hired in 1962 to establish Electric's first headquarters in Dallas.
Perot's first $1,000 risk was invested in EDS, a leader in I.T.
reevaluation. The company went on to facilitate 500 million
entrepreneur vision throughs, ten billion securities markets, and
2.6 million pharmaceutical services markets.
In 2008, Hewlett-Packard got its act together in terms of
Electronic Systems, and it launched H.P. Services right once to
develop projects and attain measurable sales revenues. Hewlett-
Packard Inc.'s internal orders grew in November 2015,
according to H.P. Company (Carrero et al., 2019). In addition,
all Hewlett Packard-related projects, such as those under the
Enterprise Services umbrella, should have an H.P. logo. Private
organizations like CSC and HPE Enterprise Services have a
long history of success in the business world. They should
continue to be acknowledged as pioneers in the race to keep up
with the ever-increasing global complexity of everyday life and
its challenges (Hedley, 2018).
SITUATION ANALYSIS
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
DXC Technology Company, one of the most successful
businesses in its field, benefits from some advantages that help
11. it maintain its position as an industry leader (Stakhovska,
2018). Because of these fortes, it has held a dominant role in its
current market while simultaneously expanding into related
ones.
· Proven ability to create new items (product innovation)
· Highly competent employees as a result of practical training
and education programs DXC Technology Company has a highly
trained and highly motivated staff because of the substantial
investment in their training and development.
· DXC Technology Company may now scale up or down in
response to fluctuations in market demand thanks to the
automation of once manual processes.
· Due in large part to the efforts of its customer relationship
management team, the firm has high levels of satisfaction
among its current clientele and a solid reputation in the eyes of
its prospective new clients.
· DXC Technology Company has, throughout its history,
established a solid distribution network that enables it to access
a sizable portion of its target market.
· DXC Technology Company has robust free cash flows, which
it may use to fund growth and new ventures.
· Exceptional Success in Emerging Markets DXC Technology
Company has mastered the art of breaking into and succeeding
in emerging markets. This growth has allowed the company to
enter new markets, which has helped to diversify its revenue
and reduce its exposure to economic cycles.
· It has a solid foundation of dependable raw-materials
suppliers, which allows it to work around problems in the
supply chain (Felipe, 2021).
Weakness
The areas of weakness provide opportunities for growth for
DXC Technology. To strengthen its competitive advantage and
12. strategic positioning, a firm has to identify its areas of
weakness, which SWOT analysis may help it do.
· There is a lack of careful and adequate financial preparation.
Given the company's current and liquid asset ratios, there seems
to be room for improvement in the organization's cash usage.
· Spending on R&D is lower than that of the Industry's fastest-
growing companies. DXC Technology Company has not been as
innovative as the market leaders while investing more than the
average amount in R&D. You get the impression that it's an
established company with plans to release new items using
tried-and-true elements.
· The firm has lost some ground in several specialist sectors
because it has been unable to meet the difficulties posed by new
entrants to the Industry. To meet these difficulties, DXC
Technology must develop an internal feedback process that
receives input from the sales staff on the ground.
· Although DXC Technology Company is a frontrunner in its
field, the company's current culture has made it difficult for it
to expand into other product categories.
· The selection of products offered by the firm is insufficient.
This absence of alternatives might provide an opening for a new
entrant to the market.
· The firm has to obtain more funds to spend in the channel
since its inventory is higher than its rivals. DXC Technology
Company's future success may depend on avoiding this.
· Not very good at blending companies with wildly divergent
approaches to work. As was said previously, DXC Technology
Company has had several failures when trying to unite
enterprises that have distinct work cultures (Sá, 2019)
.
Opportunities
· State and federal government contractors may take advantage
of a market for DXC Technology Company goods thanks to the
13. government's green initiative.
· New environmental rules will provide an even playing field
for businesses to thrive. A steady stream of free cash flow
allows DXC Technology Company to invest in new,
complementary product lines. Because of this increase in cash
on hand, the firm will be able to make investments in cutting-
edge product lines and technology. DXC Technology Company
may now pursue expansion into new product lines.
· The new tax policy can have far-reaching effects on how
businesses are conducted and provide an opening for long-
standing competitors like DXC Technology Company to boost
their profits.
· Reduced shipping costs mean that DXC Technology Company
may either increase profits or pass the savings on to consumers
through lower pricing, expanding the company's competitive
position.
· The organization's strengths are transferable to the market for
comparable items. Similarly, G.E.'s research in the field of
healthcare led to the creation of more efficient oil drilling
equipment.
· Shifts in customer preferences might provide opportunities for
the DXC Technology Company to expand into new niches. It's a
fantastic chance for the company to expand into untapped
markets and generate new sources of income.
· It is gaining new clients via the company's internet presence,
which has received substantial funding over the previous three
years. DXC Technology Company now has access to a hitherto
untapped market thanks to this investment. The organization
may take advantage of this chance by employing big data
analytics to learn more about its customers and better meet their
demands over the next several years (Vaitkevičiūtė, 2018).
Threats
· DXC Technology Company might see a slowdown in profit
14. growth in certain regions with a shortage of competent laborers.
· The lack of a steady stream of novel offerings is a problem for
the corporation, which has introduced many different items
throughout the years. Second, the inconsistent release of new
goods causes a wide range of monthly sales figures.
· Changing labor costs, such as the $15 per hour movement and
rising prices in China, pose a significant threat to DXC
Technology's bottom line.
· Shifting customer preferences toward online shopping might
challenge the current supply chain paradigm based on the use of
physical infrastructure.
· Increased economic isolationism in the United States may
prompt other governments to respond, harming exports.
· In the future, new technology created by a rival or market
disruptor might pose a significant danger to the sector.
· Intense competition - Stable profitability over the previous
two years has led to an expansion in the number of competitors
in the business, putting downward pressure on not just
profitability but also total sales.
· The corporation may be subject to legal action in different
jurisdictions due to variations in local regulations and product
quality expectations (Peña & Muñoz, 2020).

Limitations
The Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT)
analysis is extensively used as a strategic planning tool,
although it is not without its flaws.
· An organization's strengths and weaknesses may stem from the
same resources or characteristics. In this way, SWOT analysis
shows one of its main weaknesses. For instance, if a corporation
can develop its goods more quickly than its rivals, it may use
new environmental standards that put them on equal footing or
even provide an edge.
· It is important to remember that SWOT is not a goal since it
does not reveal how to get a competitive edge.
· The matrix should be seen as a jumping-off point for a deeper
discussion of the feasibility of various tactics. DXC Technology
Company's strategic competitiveness was the basis for the time
frame specified for this study, but not the execution strategy.
· To evaluate the current situation with little consideration for
16. the future, SWOT is a "static" evaluation. A static matrix may
not convey the dynamism of a competitive environment due to
the ever-evolving nature of factors, including circumstances,
capacities, threats, and tactics.
· As a result of a SWOT analysis, the company may place too
much weight on one internal or external element when
developing a strategy. Although SWOT analysis is functional, it
may miss crucial information to include when formulating a
plan.
· Due to the shortcomings of the SWOT analysis/matrix
discussed above, business leaders have assigned different values
to the company's various strengths and weaknesses. It is
standard practice for businesses to forecast the frequency and
severity of future events that might affect their operations.
Firm-Level Trend Analysis
DXC technology performance monitoring over time might
provide essential insights via observable patterns. DXC
technology can utilize this information to make better choices
and develop more effective strategies. By analyzing historical
data, it may be used that how well DXC technology has
performed and foresee the company's future. Good trend
analysis will show company executives what they should alter
to steer DXC technology on the right path. To do this, we must
first determine the contexts in which DXC technology works
well. It will also help DXC technology find places where it is
falling short and offer data that can be used to inform strategic
decisions. Key performance indicators are a valuable benchmark
for trend research since they measure the factors contributing to
a company's overall success (Ramana & Reddy, 2022).
When deciding which KPIs to monitor and analyze for trends,
it's essential to consider the underlying mechanisms in
generating financial metrics like revenue, expenses, and net
income. Reviewing sales is critical for understanding the state
of the firm as a whole, and this can be done by keeping tabs on
17. things like popular goods and new additions to the lineup.
Company success may be evaluated by examining financial
ratios, and it is helpful to discuss economic trends because of
their direct influence on business performance. The most
significant outcomes may be achieved by identifying the most
relevant performance data and the meaningful range of
fluctuation to track (Raddats et al., 2022). At last, the
occurrences of variation need to be studied so that the
information may be comprehended and utilized for decision-
making and planning.
As more and more companies go digital, analytics are becoming
more critical in helping them get value from their data. Market
trends, supply chain variations, customer behavior, and
complicated hazards must be anticipated, modeled, and
responded to stay ahead of the competition. DXC Technology is
aware of how various sectors and company procedures may
improve results in their unique ways. DXC is in a significant
downturn (-100), and this trend is expected to persist. DXC's
decline has been gaining steam for some time now, both in the
short and long term. Traders must exercise caution and
implement stop losses (Barchart, 2022).

In this report, we do a firm-level trend analysis of DXC
Technology, focusing on financial trends, since here is where
variances may be detected and studied to find the positive or
negative reason behind them, which aids in future planning and
decision-making. This firm-level trend study will compare the
current ratio, quick ratio, financial leverage ratio, and
debt/equity ratio to the industry average for the previous five
years. Information acquired for this study will be discussed in
18. the next part so that it may be used to foretell how DXC
technology will perform in the future. This data will help DXC
technology make better long-term decisions and plans (Barchart,
2022).
Structure and Methodology
The five areas that the company has consistently focused on are
helping it maintain global consistency and deliver on its
promises to its shareholders and customers. In this respect, we
divide the world into the following zones:
· Customer experience
· Representative
· Climate
· Duty
· Business
Starting with the current Fiscal Year, the CSR Steering
Committee will be briefed on the organization's plans to
establish a formalized framework for addressing its corporate
social responsibility initiatives. We will collaborate with our
partners to achieve that organization that aids in enforcing
needs throughout our five mental wards. Affiliates may be any
of the following:
· Investors/clients, clients, agents, providers, clients, online
communicators, controllers, matches, materials, thought
researchers, non-governmental organizations, and many more
(Hedley, 2018).
· Managers and critical case recall experts will actively involve
and encourage employees at all levels of the organization to
stay current with the latest information on the company and its
investments, as well as to keep up on developments in the
global market (DXC Technology2019).
· DXC made several strategic acquisitions in the fiscal year
2019 to increase our use of technology, improve our
19. infrastructure, and provide better Service to our clients. M-
