3. What is Hunger
Undernourishment is a less visible form of hunger
Hunger also weakens the immune system
Malnutrition - venerable to diseases
Leads to lack of energy by slowing down its physical and
mental activities, loses all desire to play and study.
4. Who is hungry
Surprisingly, three-quarters of all hungry people live in rural
areas, mainly in the villages of Asia andAfrica.
146 million children in developing countries are underweight
Women are the world's primary food producers thus women
are much more affected by hunger and poverty than men
5. What causes hunger
Food wastage
One third of all food produced (1.3 billion tons) is never
consumed. This food wastage represents a missed
opportunity to improve global food security in a world where 1
in 8 is hungry.
Climate and weather
Natural disasters such as floods, tropical storms and long
periods of drought are on the increase -- with negative
consequences for the hungry poor in developing countries.
6. What causes hunger
Poverty trap
People living in poverty cannot afford nutritious food for
themselves and their families. This makes them weaker and
less able to earn the money that would help them escape
poverty and hunger.
War and displacement
Across the globe, conflicts consistently disrupt farming and
food production, forces millions of people to flee their homes
7. Strategic Plan
The Plan lays out four objectives:
1. Save lives and protect livelihoods in emergencies;
2. Support food security and nutrition and build
livelihoods in fragile settings and following emergencies
3. Reduce risk and enable people, communities and
countries to meet their own food and nutrition needs
4. Reduce under nutrition and break the
intergenerational cycle of hunger with education for the
young ones.
8.
9. Hunger Deaths
There is enough food for the world (most food wasted)
Sadly it is not spread out evenly
About 21,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-
related causes
This is one person every four seconds
It is children who die more often
