2. The staff are worried about
integrating technology.
They know that “it” is out there, but
they can‟t see it…
They are not sure where embarking
on a journey into teaching and
learning with digital technology will
take them…
3. There are so many choices, so much
uncharted territory they and I have
not travelled…
How do I get them to begin the
journey with me?
5. Affordances:
i.e. The things the tool can do
INTERACTION:
CONNECTIVITY
CRITICAL DIALOGUE
CREATION:
NEW CONTENT AND RESOURCES GENERATED TOGETHER
ACCESS:
Access information and other‟s experience
6. Socratic Dialogue:
Dialectical Method of Critical Inquiry
“When many bloggers discuss and comment on
entries, blogposts become dialogues.”

Similarities
Questioning
Dialogue–chat about what and how we do it
Knowledge is generated by the people engaged in the
dialogue
7. Barriers to moving towards
Digital Literacy
Faculty Resistance (fear, time it takes to move to,
or incorporate, digital technologies into the
teaching and learning process)
Administrative buy-in (current policy: no cell
phones in class, sites blocked and no “browsing”)
Reframing what it means to „learn‟: connected,
learner generated and driven i.e. moving from
“Sage on the stage to guide by the side”.
Cost of a learning management platform-College
wants an integrated system
8. Benefits of moving towards
Digital Literacy
Increased access for learners
Learner ownership
Up-to-date industry information
Collaborative learning (for both Staff and Students)
Increase student and staff digital literacy to
support life-long-learning
9. How can a blog begin the process of
increasing our organizational learning?
The asynchronous format allows staff to “meet”
and discuss when it is convenient. Staff can return
to the conversation when they want to explore
ideas and tools.
Will provide an easy to use digital format to
explore the digital world. My hope is that the ease
of use will give them confidence to try using other
tools.
10. How can a blog help increase our
organizational learning? How do the
pieces fit?
Will provide a non-threatening, casual format for
us to learn-people can “lurk” until they feel
comfortable to share
It is a public, critical community where they can
impact what we do with emerging technologies for
learning and how we do it–staff will have a sense
of ownership
