3. IIT-JEE
Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is an All India Common Entrance Exam for
admission to engineering colleges across India. It is conducted in two
phases â JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The IITs and ISM grant
admission based on the results of JEE Advanced. The NITs, IIITs and
other central or state-funded institutes grant admission based on JEE
Main.
Students are eligible to write JEE Advanced only if they clear the
cutoff marks in JEE Main. Also, IIT JEE is considered as one of the
toughest exams in the world. Over 14 Lakh students appear every
year and only 20,000 get a rank.
In the year 2018, around 2,24,000 students from Mains Examination
will become eligible for appearing in the Advanced (IIT JEE) level of
the examination. Premier institutes like the Indian Institute of
Science (IISC), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology and
the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) grant
admissions to students on the basis of scores obtained in JEE
Advanced.
4. The IIT Council in September 2013 has approved the decision of the
Joint Admission board for introducing the two-phase JEE pattern. In
2014, JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) conducted the joint
admission process for granting admissions into 23 IITs and ISM-
Dhanbad through JEE Advanced (IIT JEE) and into 18 IIITs, 32 NITs
and 19 other GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes)
throughMains.
From the year 2013 to 2016, 40% of weight age was given to 12th
standard board exam in calculating all India ranks of JEE Mains.
However, there are no such criteria from JEE Mains 2017 for deciding
All India Ranks. CBSE has also made mandatory for all the students
applying for IIT JEE to register with the Aadhar card from the year
2017 onwards.
5. Eligibility criteria for JEE
Students should have born on or after 1st October 1992 (for general
candidates) and 1st October 1987 (for SC/ST & PwD candidates).
The candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent)
examination for the first time in all the subjects in either 2017 or
2018. Candidates, who appeared for the class XII (or equivalent)
examination in 2017 and wish to re-appear for the same in 2018
(either for improvement or because they failed in one or more
subjects), will have to re-appear in all the subjects in 2018. Those,
who appeared for the first time in their class XII (or equivalent)
examination in2016 or earlier, are not eligible.
Candidates whose Class XII (or equivalent) examination results for
the academic year 2017-18 were declared after June 2018 are eligible
