As I look out at the beautiful ocean, the silky sand and gorgeous seashells lay underneath my feet. The blue waves crashing down onto the shore.
The ocean is truly a beautiful sight to see. However, we are slowly ruining this beautiful thing because of the way we treat this planet, the ocean is
extremely polluted and marine life is paying for it. A few of the ways mankind is damaging marine life is by heavy oil pollution, and exposing
marine life to dangerous chemicals. One way our oceans are polluted is because big companies like Princesses Cruises are caught "accidentally"
dumping oil into the sea. In 2013 the Caribbean Princess Cruise Ship was caught illegally spilling 4,227 gallons of oily water off the coast of England
and records say they have been doing this since 2005 (Department of Justice) In an oil spill the majority of the oil tends to float and clump at the
surface. Which harms wildlife because mammals who hunt fish need the surface clear in order to catch their prey. In addition to that, if the oil
were to enters the water column the fish and other creatures will be greatly affected. The oil will cause reproductive damage in adult fish and will
decrease their growth drastically. Also, if the fish eggs and larvae come in contact with oil could cause death or lower their survival rate greatly.
On top of that, the most damage to wildlife is done when the oil washes on the shores because of the damaging effects it has to birds that live on or
by the shore. With birds the oil will destroy the water repealing and insulating ability that there feathers have. This leaves them to be fully exposed

(UNEP), land–based activities are responsible for as much as 80 percent of the pollutant load in coastal waters and deep oceans. Land–based activities
such as oil spills, fertilizer runoff from agriculture, improper or inadequate garbage disposal, poor sewage practices and the dumping of toxic
chemicals into the environment are major causes of marine pollution. As someone who really cares about marine animals, always throw trash away in

Secondly, different types of pollution are nonpoint source pollution includes stuff like septic tanks, cars, trucks, and boats, plus larger sources, such
as farms, livestock ranches, and timber harvest areas. Pollution that comes from a single source like an oil or chemical spill is known as point
source pollution. Discharge from faulty or damaged factories or water treatment systems is also considered point source pollution. Marine debris is
another persistent pollution problem in our ocean. Our oceans and waterways are polluted with a wide variety of marine debris ranging from soda
cans and plastic bags to derelict fishing gear and abandoned vessels. Abandoned or discarded fishing gear is also a major problem because this trash
can entangle, injure, maim, and drown marine wildlife

The Ocean Pollution
I'm in the ocean every day, it's my second home. Because of this, I am very sensitive to literary and other pollution that ends up in our oceans. I
can't walk down the beach today without seeing a pile of trash. Because of this curiosity, I wanted to research what another type of litter fill our
local ocean. Our ocean is filthy, Plastics and fibers make their way into the sea naturally every day. Apart from the rest of the trash, some of these
plastics and fibers are microscopic, coining the term microfibers or microplastics. This problem is getting worse. Much like global warming in the
past, this problem is not clearly obvious. As a society, we have made numerous efforts to begin to clean up our oceans and beaches, but our tiny
particle problem still goes undetected, unevaluated, and unresolved for most of the world's population. So we will probably ask how are they
getting there? Microplastics and microfibers find their way to the ocean in a few ways. Whether it's through our washing machine, thought beach
litter, or our use of cheap synthetic materials, we are creating water systems filled with these tiny particles. The fibers then bypass filters and make
their way into the ocean.With a microscopic size, microplastics clearly aren't a threat to marine life. I've been surfing all my life and I had no idea
there was such a thing as microplastics. But these tiny particles are everywhere, and the question still resides, what does this mean for marine life?
The effect of microplastics on our oceans marine life is indirect and therefore less obvious. Unlike microplastics, standard trash can directly harm
animals by suffocating birds or imitating food. Microplastics play no direct threat to marine life, however, their long–term effect on clams, oysters, and
other filter feeders will surely cause long–term catastrophe to our marine food web. So that brings us to the overlying problem, tiny microplastics and
microfibers in our oceans created by a society built on synthetic materials are causing huge negative effects in our ocean's food webs. By bringing

Ocean Pollution
The increase in pollution over the past century is of little surprise to many. Mankind has made great strides in such a short time, however, with these
great strides, there are consequences. With the advancement of technology and the ability to harvest different sources of energies, there has been a rise
in the amount of wastes and pollution. Actions that most people don't even consider, such as driving their car and using fertilizers are mundane
actions that may not seem like much, but they too, contribute to pollution. Eventually, many types of pollution and waste make their way to the
ocean. Therefore, pollution has a significant impact on the ocean and marine life. There are several different types of pollution that negatively
impact the ocean. Most people are primarily familiar with pollution of the oceans as solid waste, usually plastic waste. As a result of carelessness
and littering plastic pollution of the world's oceans is at an all time high. In fact, in 2014 it was discovered through several research expeditions that
scientists, "estimate a minimum of 5.25 trillion particles weighing 268,940 tons," are floating around the world's oceans (Eriksen, et al. 1). Just the
sheer numbers estimating the amount of plastic pollution found in the ocean in 2014 is alarming, it is very likely this number has risen in the past
