3. When you first look at the magazine front cover you are presented with two men looking straight out at
you, they are positioned back to back. I feel the fact that they are positioned with there backs to each other
is to represent there carers as solo artists. This emphasises the fact that the magazine have a exclusive on
there new carer as partners in there band ‘The Last Shadow Puppets’.
The magazine is using the rule of thirds, you can see this because the cover lines on the left take up the first
third, one artist takes up the middle third and the other artist takes up the right third. You can also see with
the way that the magazine is organised they have put there logo for there magazine in the top left hand
corner of the magazine, they have done this because that is often where the reader looks first so when they
look at the magazine they know instantly that it is a NME magazine. They have also put a lure in the top left
hand corner, the lure is the fact that they are offering a free CD with the magazine, the reason it is known as
a lure is because it wont necessarily make someone buy it but if they were considering buying it the fact
that there is a free CD may lure them into buying it. The magazine has used a hook on the front cover the
hook is the fact that the magazine has the ‘First major interview’ this is known as a hook because if
someone was to see it, it may make them want to buy it.
There clothes could suggest what sort of genre of music they represent, they are wearing black coats with
high collars which contrast with there white faces this could make you think that they are in a rock group
that plays very dark music, the fact that they have there collars up in the images could show that they are
quite a secretive band which again emphasises the fact that this magazine has the first exclusive interview
of them as a band. I think that the target audience for this magazine would be young people in there late
teens to mid twenties the reason I feel this would be the target audience is because NME is known for the
fact that they often have recent and up and coming bands which you would not necessarily associate with a
older generation
