1. Genre Specific Research - Drama<br />90210 Series 3 Episode 13 <br />American TV Drama focused around eight teenagers.Opens with what happened previously in this series. Highlighting the key things which happened to either inform or remind the audience. After the opening sequence there is the theme tune which acts as the dramas identifier. <br />Camera<br />This is drama opens with a close up of something which represents the main themes of the following episode.<br />Tracking of characters is used to follow characters closely and allow the audience to feel like they are following the character.<br />Shot reverse shot between characters having a conversation to create verisimilitude alike a real conversation.<br />Close ups of the characters allow the audience to identify with them and feel as if they are friends with the characters.<br />Medium and long shots used to show the mise en scene and the setting.<br />Narrow depth of field is used to focus the audience’s attention on the foreground and primarily the characters.<br />Editing<br />Credits at the beginning show cast names and are at the bottom of the image so they are not too obvious.<br />Cut editing is used to create realism when cutting between characters talking or even from scene to scene.<br />Fades are occasionally used to show the passing of time e.g. the next day.<br />Mise en Scene<br />Mise en scene is mainly used to represent the characters through their costume and living environment.<br />Narrative devices are often used through the mise en scene to show the audience thing which the characters don’t know about. Therefore the audience know more and this create a Drama.<br />Sound<br />Dialogue is used to develop the narrative and to create a sense of realism.<br />A repetitive beat is used to create tension and this beat changes in pace to alter the amount of tension the audience should be feeling.<br />Short pieces of music are used to represent the mood and manipulate the audience’s feelings at particular points in the episode.<br />Natural sounds are used to create verisimilitude and certain sounds such as doors opening and closing are amplified so the audience can hear them as that is what they expect to hear.<br />
