1. CHOCOLATE AISLE ASSIGNMENT BY SERRA KOZ
I went Migros to observe the behaviors of the people during the
shopping. When I found the aisle, 3 people are on the aisle and
walking along the aisle. It is a family consists of father, mother
and approximately 2-3 year-old daughter. The father and mother
talked with each other while the kid “attacking” all the chocolates.
She wanted the entire aisle no matter which chocolate it is.
However, the mother did not take into account to her daughter (I
think which is not proper for the mother since she is the only one
that teach the behavior is impolite in the society to her daughter.)
and passed the chocolate aisle and went to aisle which sells the
cleaning stuff. Since the kid behaves inappropriately, father hugged
the kid but he had still talking with his wife and the kid become a
little bit angry and sad. I understood from her facial expression
since she was not smile anymore and made his fingers claw and
stucked in the back of her father. As a result, they just passed the
aisle without having any chocolate.
Then a woman came and went a shelf directly without any hesitation
and took one of the chocolate what she wants. She wore a black t-
shirt and black pants and has long hair. After she left to the
chocolate aisle I checked which chocolate she bought, obviously it
was the bitter one! In my opinion, she is very strict about her
decisions she made and acted like how it should be. She transferred
the decision very fast (most probably, she thought before she came)
and acted accordingly.
An old woman came with the shopping trolley to the aisle. She leaned
on the trolley and acted very slowly. She wore light color outfits
and has white short hairs. She looked at the first column of the
chocolate and then went on the other one and the other one and so
on. At the middle of the column, she picked a chocolate. She looked
at the packing and took another from the back. (Same chocolate) She
tried to read something but because she is not seeing well, she
called Boran (most probably her son or grandson) to read the
expiration date. Boran said that it is “Ağustos 2018” for both of
the chocolates. However, she put the chocolate that is placed at the
back side of the row and put the first chocolate she picked on the
same place. At the end of the chocolate aisle, there is a sale for
“Damak Fıstıklı” and she said that if he wants, she can buy for him
but Boran rejected the idea and they left the aisle. What I thought
about the woman is she wanted to make sure about her decisions and
wants to make people happy by proposing them to buy something. I
think it is very kind behavior but Boran is very gentleman since he
did not say anything rudely and rejected the proposal very kindly.
While I were taking notes about the woman and man I thought that
maybe they do not have too much money because their baskets are
2. almost empty. After they left, I was curious about which chocolate
they selected and it was the cheapest one: Migros Chocolate.
I think the most different observation of the homework is the last 2
people. Since they came the aisle almost at the same time, I will
compare together. Firstly, a young lady, who is a little bit fat,
came and read every price tag one by one. Also, she did not look
each and every of them because after they leave the aisle, I checked
and saw that she only looked at the milky, caramelized and white
chocolates. She compared different price tags and always come and go
between shelf to calculated the prices. While she was searching for
the proper chocolate, another lady entered the aisle from the other
side. She was fatter than the other girl and she acted very slowly.
While she was walking along the aisle, she looked passionately to
the chocolates. At the same time, the young lady still tried to find
the chocolate. Then, the old-fat women reached the middle of the
aisle and turned her head to the opposite side of the aisle. She
immediately picked “Eti Form Light Buğdaylı” and turned back and
left the aisle without looking any chocolate. Even she did not walk
from the starting point to ending point to the aisle. Besides, the
young-fat lady was still working on the prices. After 4-5 minutes (I
left the aisle to not interrupt and not attract anyone else’s
attention and came back), she was still working on. Finally, she
picked one of the chocolate. It was very small package which is
“Ülker Albeni”. What I thought about the 2 lady is they have some
important health problems. The old women are aware of the fact that
she lost his health for eating too much and wanted to gain her
healthy body with rejecting any kind of sweet, carbohydrates and so
on. She wanted chocolate a lot but she knows what are the hazards
and left the aisle immediately which is very willed act. However,
the young lady is not strong as the old lady. Most probably, she is
a student and do not have lots of money to buy chocolate. That is
the reason why she selected only a bar of chocolate. I can say that,
if she has not money, it is good for her since she has to start what
problems will come up in near future.
As an overall observation, I honestly say that the females are
addicted to the chocolates since there is no male in the aisle
except for the father of 2-3 year-old kid. Since the kid also a
female, it does not matter he walked along the aisle or not. And
what I thought about this homework is chocolate is a real passion
for people and their characters are shaped what they will love. Of
course they are buying only chocolate but each of them has different
features and they show their character by doing very unimportant
act: buying chocolates!
