refined oil goes into creating gasoline for
vehicles and other applications. Most of this
product is refined into unleaded gasoline
(octane 87) containing detergent and ethanol
additives according to U.S. government
standards.

refined into diesel fuel in 2013. Diesel fuel
requires less refinement than regular gasoline,
but it has a higher energy density. With more
energy gallon-per-gallon compared to gasoline,
diesel fuel provides increased levels of
combustion byproducts such as soot and
nitrogen compounds, though many
manufacturers are developing “clean diesel”
systems to address this issue.

once it is refined, and various oil byproducts
are sent to different industries to make
plastic, rubber, asphalt tar, and other
petrochemical materials. On average, a 42-
gallon U.S. barrel of crude oil yields
approximately 45 gallons of petroleum
products after the refinement process.
