1. Room 26 & 29’s Assembly
Speaker One:
Good Morning parents, teachers and students and welcome to Room 26 & Room 29’s assembly.
Please stand for the National Anthem.
Speaker Two:
Please be seated.
Students hold up Y E T signs.
Speaker Three: Think for a moment. What is this word? Why do you think I am showing you this
word? What does it mean to you?
To me it means- it’s not I can’t, it’s I can’t YET but I’ll try.
Speaker Four: Have you ever been in a lesson that you found hard to understand? How did you
feel? Did you want to give up? Did you think, “I can’t do it!” or “I can’t do it yet but I will?”
It’s called using a little something called perseverance. When things get difficult you keep on trying.
We will now recite a poem for you titled “See it through”
All students: Recite poem
When you’re up against a trouble,
Meet it squarely, face to face;
Lift your chin and set your shoulders,
Plant your feet and take a brace.
When it’s vain to try to dodge it,
Do the best that you can do;
You may fail, but you may conquer,
See it through!
Speaker Five: JK Rowling
This is JK Rowling. JK Rowling is the author of Harry Potter. She knows a thing or two about
perseverance. The author of the most popular book franchise in history came from far behind,
fighting through poverty and hardships to become a global inspiration.
She was living on $100 a week when she wrote her first Harry Potter Book. She was rejected by 12
different publishers, but the inspiring author persevered and ultimately triumphed!
Speaker Six: Michael Jordan
This is Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan is arguably the best player in the history of the NBA.
However, it was not always like this. Growing up, he was never the best player on the court. In fact,
when he was 15 years old, he missed out on making the high school basketball team. Michael went
home and cried for days.
Eventually, he picked himself up and turned the pain into motivation. You must accept that failure is
a part of success. You must find your perseverance and continue. Michael did persevere, winning 6
NBA championship rings and becoming the most celebrated basketball player of all time.
Speaker Seven: Paul Sherlock
This is Mr Sherlock. Mr Sherlock is one of the most celebrated teachers in Wattle Grove Primary
School history. Just joking…I’ll start again.
Mr Sherlock is an excellent teacher. However, it was not always like this. When he was younger, he
didn’t know a lot about teaching. He would always make mistakes and Ms Roberts had to
encourage him and help him a lot. So…he worked really hard and persevered with his teaching
skills and is now the best teacher in Wattle Grove. He once said “I am the best. Simply… the best.”
Mr Sherlock is a good example of perseverance.

Steve Jobs
This is Steven Jobs. Steven Jobs is the man who created ‘Apple’ and changed technology forever.
Growing up, Steven never really enjoyed school. In fact, when he went to university, he dropped out
after just one semester. A university dropout, now that does not sound very successful. However, he
persevered with his dream in technology and worked extremely hard.
By the age of 23, he was worth $1 million. By the age of 24, he was worth $10 million. And by the
age of 25…He was worth more than $100 million dollars. All of this came because of hard work and
perseverance.
Speaker Ten: Albert Einstein
Speaker Eleven: Stuart Meachem
This is Mr Meachem. Mr Meachem is the best photographer that Wattle Grove has ever seen.
However, it was not always like this. Many years ago, Mr Meachem was just an amateur
photographer, taking pictures with his small camera. His pictures were always fuzzy and unclear.
So…he worked hard on his photography and studied a lot. He bought all of the best equipment and
took photos all the time (sometimes too much). Mr Meachem persevered with something that he
was passionate about and eventually became a master. He is now a photo editor of a local
newsletter and takes beautiful pictures all around Perth for people to see. All because he
persevered.
Speaker Twelve: Speaking of Mr Meachem could you please present the second lot of Merit
Certificates?
Speaker Thirteen:

Speaker Fourteen:
Thank you, Mrs McIlwraith.
Can Mr Sanderson please present the Science award?
Speaker Fifteen: Thank you, Mr Sanderson.
Mrs Bennett can you please present the Values award?
Speaker Sixteen: Thank you, Mrs Bennett
We will now perform a song for you called “The Power of Yet”
All students: perform song.
Speaker Seventeen: The Student Reps will now present their report.

Students, staff and parents we would like to leave you with one final thought
