3. SAMPLER
A machine that is able
to record sounds
digitally; normally
on a computer.
It can change the
sound by:
- Changing the pitch
- Play slower or faster
- Cut into smaller
pieces
- Loop
- Play backwards
An effects processor
(FX) adds an effect to
the original sound,
e.g. echo or reverb.
Reverb makes the
voice sound as if you
were in a small
room or a large hall, a
cathedral etc.
An equaliser (EQ)
changes the sound
quality (or timbre) by
changing the
frequencies.
It can sound a phone,
a robot or add more
bass to a mix etc.
We have three main
frequencies:
- High
- Mid
- Low (Bass)
5. Echo
One reflection of the sound far away.
E.g. in a valley.
We can distinguish the individual
words or syllables.
6. Reverb is:
“Reflections of the sound from
the surfaces in the room”
The reflections reach our reach
the microphone (or ears) at a
slightly different times.
7. Reverb
Multiple reflections from walls,
ceiling, floor etc. (that are very
close to the listener)…
… reach our ears at different time and
produce a single continuous sound.
