• Regular meetings, at least fortnightly
• Be positive!!! We are very sensitive beings
• Sometimes we just need to be told that we’re doing a
good job
• Help them identify weaknesses in teaching in order to
build on them
• Encourage cross-curricular observations of teachers
• Choose the right person
• Give some recommendations for filing of meeting
minutes, student info etc. Get this set up at the start of
the year
8. The HOD

• NQTs will be keen- don’t overload them
• Some responsibilities are nice because they
can make NQTs feel important
