Brahmagupta was a significant 7th century Indian mathematician born in Bhillamala, India who made important contributions to mathematics. He established rules for fractions and zero and calculated the circumference of Earth remarkably close to the modern calculation. Brahmagupta was an orthodox Hindu and criticized non-Hindu views in his work, such as those of his contemporary Aryabhata I who proposed that Earth was a spinning sphere.
