Amachi Pittsburgh- Celebrities/Events
Celebrities to get involved
Overall Research Findings
• There are no celebrities from Pittsburgh/Currently
living in Pittsburgh who have experienced an
  incarcerated parent
• Who can make a connection to the cause?
• Best Bet: Athletes, they live local, and have a
stronger connection to most of these communities
than celebrities who have moved away
Starling Marte
• Outfielder for the Pittsburgh
  Pirates
• 24
• From the Dominican Republic
• Mother Died when he was 10,
  he was raised by his
  grandmother
• He can relate to missing a
  parent just like Amachi kids
Travis Snider
• Outfielder for Pittsburgh Pirates
• 24
• In the span of 2 years (in his
teens) he lost 2 grandparents, a
  coach, and a close friend
• Not long after all that his mother
  died in a car accident
• Says he used all this loss to
spur on his hard work and
  channeled it into his baseball
• This could make him a great
role model for the kids in Amachi
Charlie Batch
• QB for Pittsburgh Steelers
• 37
• Originally from Pittsburgh
  (Homestead)
• Best of the Batch Foundation
• Recognized for efforts with
  underprivileged youth
• Charlie Batch Urban Pumpkin
  Patch and Garden
• Because he is already very
involved in charity it might be easy
to get him involve with ours
Ryan Clark
• Safety for the Pittsburgh
  Steelers
• Was very active in the
  community when he was on
  the NY Giants
• 2002 United Way Hometown
  Huddle: conducted football
  clinic
• Operation Paint Fest @
  Ground Zero
• Very involved in awareness for
  sickle cell disease
Brandon Johnson
• Linebacker for the Pittsburgh
  Steelers
• Might be helpful to get involved
with his charity for partnership and
  funding purposes
• Johnson Family Foundation
   – Funds programs to improve health of
     environment; promote equality and
     social progress, and support education
     and youth
Heath Miller
• Tight End for the Pittsburgh
  Steelers
• Very involved with the Salvation
  Army
• Been involved in a charity
  fashion show before
• Also involved in high school
  fundraising and basketball
  games
Chris Rainey
• Running back for the Pittsburgh
  Steelers
• Son of single mother and was
  raised in part by his
  grandmother
• During high school he lived with
  the Pauncey family
• Would be good to get involved
  because someone game him a
  chance to realize his full
potential, he could be part of
  doing that for another child
Max Starks
• Offensive Tackle for Pittsburgh
  Steelers
• Very Involved in local
  community in college
• Tutor
• Worked with Kids Against
  Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco
• Cents of Relief Board of
  Directors: prevent human
  trafficking
LaMarr Woodley
• Linebacker for the Pittsburgh
  Steelers
• Very charity involved
• Sent supplies and sweatshirts
  back to hometown elementary
  school
• Donated money to hometown
  school district to cover athletic
  participation costs
Derek Moye
• Practice Squad for the
  Pittsburgh Steelers
• Recent PSU graduate- Wide
  Receiver and Team Captain
• Difficult upbringing: Father
  was alcoholic, Mom raised
  him and his brother
• He would be a great role
  model because he broke the
  cycle and became a great
  leader and stand up player
Event Idea #1: Tailgate
• Lead up mini events: have partner organizations host
tailgates at local high school football games, sell food
and drinks and pay to play games to raise money
• Large Event: Tailgate “Gala” for an away Steelers
game (could even be at Heinz field?)
   – Host in large hall, get large screen TV’s so people
      can watch the game
   – Ongoing Silent Auction during game
   – ½ time live auction (celebrity auctioneer?)
   – Food, drinks, etc.
Tailgate
• This could be a good way to start off with a
smaller scale event with potential to build to
  something larger
• Might be difficult and expensive to aim too high
right off the bat with getting celebrities involved
• More innovative and something a bit different
  than a normal Gala
• Create goal of what you want event to be in the
future and use this event to build towards it
• Do during away game to ensure that big $$
people who have season tickets or boxes will
  come
Tailgate: How do we use as
                   fundraiser?
• Silent Auction: Donated Items
• Live Auction: Donated Items
• Ticket Sales
• Sell “tents”- pop up tents to big corporations- same
concept as buying a table at a Gala but instead we
could have a pop up tent and their company logo
could be printed on it-works if the event is indoor and
outdoor-if just indoor do a table sale and make a big
center piece with company logo (good advertising for
    company)
Tailgate: Promotions/Publicity
• Radio Station: have a popular radio station broadcast
live from the event as well as DJ and MC live auction-
this will also create a pre event push because the
radio station can talk about it to their fans weeks in
  advance
• Press Releases
• Event Sponsors- advertisements on their websites
• Social Media
• Website for event
Tailgate: where the idea came from?

• Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund
Event Idea #2: Dick’s Sporting Goods
        Yinzer Fashion Show
• Have Dick’s sponsor a fashion show where Athletes
  model each other's Jerseys
• Jersey’s can be auctioned off
• Food, drinks, music, etc
Yinzer Fashion Show
• Obviously a larger scale event
• Harder to get athletes and most likely more difficult to
  plan
• May get a bigger turn out because of the athletes
  involved
• Potential to raise more money with auction of
autographed items and higher ticket sales
• Gala with a fun twist
Yinzer Fashion Show: Fundraising
• Ticket sales/ Front row seats
• Auction off autographed jerseys
• For additional donate, winners can get a picture of
both the athlete whom the jersey belongs to and the
  one who wore it
• Auction off other sports equipment donated by Dick’s
  and signed by athletes
• Donation required athlete photographs and
  autographs
• All these different options create different levels of
fundraising so people can do what they can afford,
and we have a chance to ensure everyone
  contributes
Yinzer Fashion Show: Promotions

• Same concept of having a radio show
  broadcast from event
• Possibility to get sports casters to broadcast
  or host event/MC event
• Connection to Dick’s and Athletes creates
  larger social media reach
• PR push: press release, media alerts, etc.
• Also more likely to get outlets to come and
  cover the event
Yinzer Fashion Show: Stage details
