What is “B2B/EDI”?
• EDI - Electronic Data Exchange
○ Initially defined generically but mostly people think of
X12, EDIFACT
○ Mostly used in Retail, Manufacturing, Logistics, and
Insurance
• B2B - General Integration between businesses
○ Includes Restful APIs, but also XML, CSV, EDI, etc.

What’s so different about “B2B”
Security & Identity
• B2B = Crossing trust boundaries, by definition
• Am I sure this message is from my partner?
• Signing/encryption
Interoperability
• “Message-oriented” or “document-centric”
• “Standard” Formats (EDI, HL7, SWIFT, etc.)
