Lesson-04
SOME SAY THAT THE SUPREME IS DIVINE LIGHT. SOME
ALSO SAY THAT THE SUPREME IS IN EVERYONE’S
HEART. SOME SAY THAT THE SUPREME IS A PERSON
WHO STAYS FAR AWAY FROM US IN HIS SPIRITUAL
WORLD. WHICH ONE IS TRUE?
All are true. There is one Supreme Truth that is
manifested in three forms Brahman, Paramatma and
Bhagavan. Consider an analogy of the sun. There is sun-
light. There is a sun-globe and there is a sun-god
operatingthe sun-globe. The sun-rays are like the
Brahman (or the divine light). The sun-globe is like the
Paramatma (or the Supersoulresiding in everyone’s
heart). And the sun-god is like Bhagavan (Lord Krishna
as a person). These are three levels of understandingthe
same Supreme Truth. The highest understandingis of
2. course the understandingof the Bhagavan (or the Person
God, Krishna) Following story demonstratesthe three
levels of understandingthe Supreme.
The trainstory
in one village, the villagers gathered well in advance to
see the train coming. It was coming at night, so some
villagers saw that there was a big light on the front of the
train, and it was coming towards them. So they ran home,
they were perhaps a little frightened or something. They
ran home, and their relatives asked them, "What is the
train like?" And they said, "It's a big light." Some other
villagers stayed longer, and they saw not only a light, but
also that it was moving very fast, and they could perceive
a long form behind the light also moving very fast. So
then they also became frightened, and they ran home and
they told their relatives, "The train has got a light on the
front,it's long and it's moving fast." So they had more
information. But then some villagers stayed until the train
pulled right into the station, it stopped and they were able
to get inside. They saw so many seats, so many people.
So then they went home. They had full information.
They told their relatives, "The train has got a light on the
front, it's long and it moves fast, but inside there are many
many seats, there are peoplesitting, and you can get in
and out."
3. MORAL: There are differentlevels of understanding,
Brahman, Paramatma and Bhagavan. Vadanti tat tattva
vidastattvametc. The highest understanding of Absolute
Truth is when one understandsthat Krishna, the Supreme
Personalityof Godhead is the AbsoluteTruth and is the
originof both impersonalBrahman and localised
Paramatama. Knowing thisone engages in pure
devotional serviceto Krishnawhich is the best process of
God realization.
