The Impact Of Formative Assessments On Standardized And...
Introduction Formative assessments are used in elementary, secondary, and post–secondary schools
as well as other educational institutions. Formative assessments allow teachers to give feedback to
students about their strengths and weaknesses (Tovani, 2011). According to Lang et. al (2008),
educators initiated the use of the formative assessment process to make predictions about students'
outcomes on standardized or high–stakes tests. Lang, et al (2008) also contended the conception of
formative assessments began when teachers and administrators started seeking new strategies in
effort to improve students' performance. The state of Missouri uses formative assessments to
measure students' performance. Missouri adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to
ensure assessments align with standards. Missouri implemented CCSS to better prepare students for
college and career readiness.
The location of our school sits on the outskirts of Missouri. Our school serves students in the second
through fifth (2–5) grades. Over thirty percent of our student population receives special education
services and has an individualized education plan (IEP). Our administration team and teachers
design instruction and assessments from our state's standards. We incorporate instruction time and
make it applicable to our students' individualized learning needs. We use different forms of teaching
styles to ensure our assessments align and measure adequately to our standards. In effort to ensure

The Environmental Impact Assessment On The Environment
NON – TECHNICAL SUMMARY
The Environmental Impact Assessment is an ongoing process in terms of environmental and social
considerations that places in a high priority the conservation and the enhancement of the natural
environment. EIA is defined as the study of the effect prediction of a proposed projct on the
environment. In addion, it may be described as a tool which helps to make an important decision
comparing many alternative plans for a project and seeks to find the best solution combining all the
financial and environmental costs and benefits. The EIA is based on integrity, utility and
sustainability.

Retailers
We will lease shipping containers out to independent food and beverage franchises and local
businesses. This will be located north of the beach (see Site Map in Appendix 3). This experience
will involve the community in a festive and culturally enlightening way.
Located south east of the beach we intend to have an assortment of markets with a variety of stalls
such as face painting, kids clothing shops, smiggle store and balloon stall for kids to make animals
out of balloons.
Visually this creates a positive atmosphere for all to enjoy through various experiences created. The
success of Eat Street Markets is a result in this decision.

Environmental Impact Assessment Of The Sydney's Darling...
Introduction:
With the development of the world, numbers of environmental issues were threatening people's life,
like rising Greenhouse gas emission. Buildings provide a connection between human society and
sustainable environment, especially for Skyscraper (Ainger & Fenner 2013). Establishing a new
Skyscraper in Darling Harbour is a plan for Company AIIHigh. Causing a large difference for both
human being and environment. Darling Harbour is where has lager number of daily flow capacity,
meeting with Sydney major public compelling attractions, located in Sydney central business
district. ("Darling Harbour")
This report will analyze the influences of Skyscraper in Sydney's Darling Harbour in terms of
substantiality by screening the environmental impact assessment, analysis the imparts from
environmental, social and economic system, establish the judgments about demand, challenge and
alternatives and finally other practical problems involves in project.
Screening
Environmental impact assessment (EIA) play an essential role for sustainability establishing. As
Anzecc (1991) mentioned that EIA producers would take a responsibility for issues like improving
the efficiency of the contribution made by making sustainability and environmentally decision,
which means the government responsible for EIA process which have the power to recommend
environmental conditions.

A Report On The Cleveland Street Workhouse
Introduction Pathway, the homeless healthcare charity, is seeking for a property to carry out their
homeless people medical respite strategy. The Cleveland Street Workhouse, located the eastern side
of Cleveland Street, has become their potential target. However, they do not know whether this
place could satisfy their objectives. Therefore, this report is aim to provide a guidance and some
suggestions for the clients, to enable them carry out their strategy more easily. Land and property
appraisal In this case, the information about this property is not enough to support us making any
decisions. For example, THE CLEVELAND STREET WORKHOUSE Document 1(assignment
sheet) has mentioned 'It is generally of poor quality internally and will need significant
refurbishment, bearing in mind the listing of the front block'. Information like this is too weak to
support our strategy and we need some more detailed information. Therefore, I think it is essential to
make a Land and property appraisal. This contains a well– rounded check of the targeted land and
property. Not only it lets us know how much cost is needed to maintain the property at an acceptable
standard, but also it helps us to find out the opportunities for adaptation and rationalisation. In short,
the Land and property appraisal let us know what to do, in which place, at what time. Is it the
fundamental activity to set up a baseline assessment of the targeted land and property. Land and
property appraisals could be

Environmental Impact Assessment: Identifying the...
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is 'the process of decision making by identifying the
potentially significant environmental effects and risks of a project'. Environmental impact analysis is
one of the stages of an EIA (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). Environmental impact analysis is a process
of providing decision makers with an indication of the likely consequences of their action (Wathern,
2013). This stage comprises impact identification and determination of the significance of the
impacts. Impact identification is the process of illustrating cause and effect relationship of a project
activities and key environmental aspects. It needs a systematic expert knowledge and judgment
(Sadler and McCabe, 2002). In this study, key environmental ... Show more content on

It is the process of identifying the impacts of the two processing units (Fig 1) by showing the cause
and effect relationship, and analyzing and defining which impacts are significant and require further
attention and controlling mechanisms. Similarly, identifying criteria are necessary to determine the
significance of impacts. According to Sadler and McCabe (2002 impact is characterized by the
nature, magnitude, spatial extent, timing, duration, reversibility, likelihood, frequency and
mitigation potential. Such criteria characterize all types of impacts in general. Since the study
focused on local scale, six criteria were adopted from Kumar & Armani (2012) to compare and
judge the impacts that was identified during impact identification (Table 3.13). Thus, in this study
environmental impact analysis is the process of identifying the impacts of the two processing units
(Fig 1) by showing the cause and effect relationship, and analyzing and defining which impacts are
significant and needs further attention and controlling mechanisms. It is providing indications for

The Extent to which Strategic Environmental Assessment...
1. Introduction
Climate change the 'wicked problem' is continuously imposing significant threat to the nature as
whole according to the recent projections (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013). This anticipated hazard
is unavoidable to some extent though the source of the problem ('green house gas' emission) is
barred right now (IPCC 2014a). Combination of mitigation (reducing or capturing GHG) and
adaptation effort has been suggested both in the short and long term to achieve the complementary
advantage (i.e. cost) and to reduce the risk (IPCC 2014a; 2014b).
Transportation, residential and business energy use and industrial sector is the major contributor of
global GHG emission (EPA 2013). These three sectors are influenced actively by ... Show more

Carbon dioxide concentration has increased by 40% since the pre–industrial times, largely from
fossil fuel emissions and land use change emissions. Human intervention on the climate structure is
unambiguous. Further emissions of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and changes in all
components of the climate system. Most characteristics of climate change will continue for many
centuries even if emissions are stopped totally at this point (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013).
2.2 Mitigation Need
'Mitigation is a human intervention to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases'
(IPCC 2014a). According to Fifth Assessment Report of IPCC (IPCC 2014a), technical and
behavioural mitigation instrument for all transport modes, in addition new infrastructure and urban
redevelopment investments could decrease final energy demand in 2050 by around 40% below the
baseline. Integrated urban planning, transit–oriented development, compact urban form that supports
cycling and walking, and new infrastructures such as high–speed rail systems that will reduce short–
haul air travel demand, can play a vital role for emission reduction (IPCC 2014a); which can be
guided at the very beginning of the policy and plan making through instruments like SEA.
Moreover, the next two decades present a window of opportunity for mitigation in urban areas, as a
significant segment of the world's 'transition/semi–urban' areas will be urbanized during this period

An Environmental Impact Assessment For The Queensferry...
1.0 Scope of Project
1.1 Background
An environmental impact assessment for the Queensferry Crossing Bridge has been a topic of
discussion for a while because of the concern about the future of the Forth Road Bridge. The new
cable–stayed Queensferry Crossing bridge doesn't aim to replace The Forth Road bridge but co–
exist parallel to it.
1.1.2 Introduction to Project
In 2009, transport for Scotland submitted the 'Forth crossing bill', the scheme is being taken forward
in accordance with a policy memorandum. The queens ferry crossing will be built instead of
repairing the current forth road bridge. Repairing the current bridge will take between 7 and 9 years,
without an alternative crossing, sustained disruption of traffic will have a significant effect. The
queens ferry crossing will provide two lanes in each direction, replacing road provisions for general
traffic, increased travel growth will need to be satisfied by public transport.
The estimated cost of the scheme is between £1.325–£1.35 billion. New technology will be
implemented for the queen's ferry crossing; it will be more climate resistant than the current bridge.
Key feature of the new bridge include:
Use of the latest, more durable materials
Cables that are easier to replace, replacement can be done during normal maintenance work, the
bridge doesn't get shut
dehumidification system inside the box girder, decrease corrosion damage
Modern paint systems decrease corrosion

Environmental Impact Assessment(Eia)
TITLE – Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), it 's introduction, purpose, methods of EIA, EIA
conducted in India, Environmental Impact Statement(EIS).
INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION :
An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative
impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the
environmental, social and economic aspects.
PURPOSE :
The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental
impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. The International Association for Impact
Assessment (IAIA) defines an environmental impact assessment as "the process of identifying,
predicting, evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the methods are GMP–RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic – EIA methods need
specific parameters and variables to be measured to estimate values of impact indicators. However
many of the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality,
lifestyle quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to
assess the impacts we may need to take the help of information from similar EIAs, expert criteria,
sensitivity of affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate,
systematically, fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as
a fuzzy logic approach.[9]
At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the
performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to those that were predicted. The main
objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main
considerations are:
scientific – to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management– to assess the
success of mitigation in reducing impacts.
Some people believe that audits be performed as a rigorous scientific testing of the null hypotheses.
While some believe in a simpler approach where you

3. Results and discussion
In this section the proposed approach is applied to a case study. In the case study, environmental and
social impacts of new and remanufactured diesel engines are assessed.
3.1 Goal definition, scoping and functional unit
The engines are produced and used in China. Each engine consists of 277 components made of cast
iron, steel, aluminium, steel alloy and rubber. The major components are cylinder block, cylinder
head, fly wheel housing, gear box, connection rod, crankshaft, and flywheel. Those components
account for 66% of the engine mass.
The system boundary for the new engine includes steel production, cast iron production, aluminium
production, electricity production, engine manufacturing and assembly, ... Show more content on

The functional unit of the study is 300,000 km travelled by the diesel engine. The fuel efficiency of
the engine is 0.250 litres per km. It is assumed that the fuel efficiency of both engines is equal.
3.2 Life cycle inventory
In order to estimate the amount of resources required and emissions released to produce steel, cast
iron, and aluminium, inventory data published by [11] is utilized. To compute emissions released by
electricity production, China's electricity generation life cycle inventory found in [12] is used. To
calculate resources consumed and emissions produced due to diesel fuel refinery and combustion,
data presented in [13] and [14] are applied.
For the social aspect, based on the information provided by the manufacturer, data summarized in
Table 1 is obtained. Note that Rmfg stands for remanufactured. For the use phase, cost incurred due
to diesel fuel consumption is calculated as the following, 300,000 km × 0.25 litre/km × 7.724
CNY/litre = 579,315 CNY. 7.72 CNY/litre was the average price of diesel fuel in China in 2013.
CNY stands for Chinese Yuan, the currency of China. In order to estimate the portion of value–
added in the form of employee compensation in China (VAchina) over the life cycle of the diesel
engines, China's EIO table (42 sectors) for the year of 2007 is used [15]. Since the economic data is
in terms of 2013 CNY then we convert them to 2007 CNY by using China's GDP deflators, 130.768

inspected main weaknesses and strengths of EIA as a participatory and preventive environmental
management tool. According to him EIA has enhanced the legitimacy of the planning processes and
tools used in environmental policy. The planning has been made more transparent through the
participation of stakeholders. In the early phase of Planning, the participation has made it possible to
strengthen the trust between stakeholders, and allows sound consensus in disagreement. It has also
prevented appeals in the later phases of decision making. EIA also has influence on project design

Panigrahi and Amirapu in 2012 conducted research on "An assessment of EIA system in India".
According to the authors there is well developed regulatory EIA system established in India but
coordination is vital for an effective EIA system. Interviews with the officials and consultants
showed that there is weak coordination among the decision makers, SPCBs, consultants, proponents
and other agencies/line departments. Proponents and consultants do not consult concerned
departments and agencies during preparation of EIA reports to identify issues. The authors carried
out the assessment of the EIA process and identified the following weakness in the system. There
are comprehensive guidelines, legal and legislative provisions but administrative setup is very weak.
EIA is just a formality as most of the time EIA is conducted after start of construction. Coordination
among the consultants and planners are very weak. Involvement of stakeholders into ToR process
during scoping is inadequate which results in a thin coverage of socio–economic and environmental
issues in the EIA reports. The quality of EIA reports are very poor and not up to the mark. The
reason identified is the lack of experts and professionals. There are many weaknesses identified in
the reports such as it hardly discusses the limitations and assumptions carried out by consultants.

The Environmental Impacts Of Costa Rica
Just like other countries, Costa Rica was a victim to deforestation and other environmental
degradation in the past. Now, however, Costa Rica is widely known for the preservation of its
forests, wildlife, and the overall well–being of the environment of its pristine country. The
government of Costa Rica realized the issues of the environmental degradation they had caused and
pledged to never go back. Now, Costa Rica is one of the biggest leaders in the "green" movement.
The governmental agency SETENA, has helped Costa Rica's eco–preservation. SETENA is the
Costa Rican National Environmental Office. SETENA stands for, "Secretaría Técnica Nacional
Ambiental" which translates to "National Environmental Technical Secretariat". The purpose of this
agency is to address the environmental impacts from development and building. The main mission
of SETENA is to carry out a reliable process of assessing environmental impact, delivering a
trustworthy service, so that proper decisions can be made by state institutions. What SETENA wants
is to be one of the leading institutions that can guarantee society that development can and will take
place in harmony with the environment. When a new business is to be established, it is a
requirement to get approval from SETENA. However, the process is rather time–consuming and
frustrating for people who would like to build a residential establishment. During 2010, SETENA

Use Of Phase Of Building A Largest Stage That Impacts...
Use phase of building is the largest stage that impacts environment during the life cycle, so require
more attention in the field of energy saving of building. In the initial design stage of buildings,
through LCA can help design decisions, such as the appropriate use of zero energy building
techniques. To quantitatively assess the energy consumption and environmental impact among all
above stages, LCA is undoubtedly the best choice that can full evaluate the impacts during
extraction of raw materials, material creation, sale, maintenance, disposal or recycling, also global
warming, air pollution, water pollution and other index. Thereby more effectively improving
environmental performance is to achieve green building. LCA will provide the support of data on

The Importance Of Comprehensive Site Investigations And...
The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA
accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental & Earth
Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the
local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards. A
condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed
decontamination.
A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for
residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract
of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current
business zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected
the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off.
The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority that
the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of
contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down
slope. Work stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and
environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by
its development consent.

Improving Economic And Social Status Of A Region
Introduction Presently, changes are being experienced in areas where development projects aimed at
improving the economic and social status of a region are being carried. These changes happen to
affect the environment within which the projects are being carried and they often call for strategies
to be developed by the developing body to make sure that these impacts are reduced significantly
(Beer, Au and Hall n.d.). Despite different development projects aiming at bringing about some
positive changes in the society or in a given setting, studies show that the same projects may lead to
conflicts between the environment and the human activities being carried out in that particular
region. Initially, the campaign for economic growth was viewed as the key for increasing the
standards of living in a given region but very little attention was given to the social and
environmental sensitivity and impacts that accompanied these projects (Chen, Liu and Liaw 2011).
As a result, there has been a growing need to reduce the impacts of the projects as well as making
sure that the long term benefits of the projects are maximized in leading to sustainability of the
projects. Therefore, in the case of pipeline industry, there are a number of impacts that the industry
exposes to the environment as cases of spills may happen as well as destruction of the environment
as the pipelines are laid (Even and Porter 2012). These impacts may be reduced and the
sustainability of the projects may be

Evaluation Of The Eia At Buzwagi Goldmine
CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW Effectiveness was investigated and evaluated by
considering if all the EIA stages were followed appropriately. A review of recent experience world–
wide suggests four necessary ingredients for effective EIA are as follows (Sadler B, 1996): l.
Appropriate timing in initiating the assessment so that the project proposal is reviewed early enough
to scope for development of reasonable alternatives to the project without affecting the environment
and the community around; 2. Clear specific directions in the form of terms of reference or
guidelines covering priority issues of the public involvement, timelines, and opportunities for
information and input at key decision–making stages. 3. Quality information and products fostered
by compliance with procedural guidelines and use of "good practices" of environmental
management and monitoring plan; and 4. Receptivity of decision makers and proponents to the
results of the EIA so that EIA decisions are implemented. All the issues above must be investigated
for the effectiveness of the EIA at Buzwagi Goldmine. Effective EIA aid in decision–making and
achievement of sustainable development of the project without causing negative environmental
outcomes (Glasson et. al.2005). Literature also states that EIA is effective if it achieves its goals for
environmental protection, assesses and mitigates impacts throughout the life of a project (Lee et. al.
1999). Development projects have life cycles, which

introduction
Eco–design is an way of design the product with special consideration for the environmental
impacts of the product during its whole lifecycle. Within the present economic, marked by the
phenomenon worldwide process, by the awareness of the existence of interdependence between
environment and progress, we are become part of the increase of the society 's exigencies regarding
the environment protection, exigencies made known by more and more severe regulations. Forced
by these regulations, and taking into account the greater significance of the ecological criteria when
it comes to classifying products and services, on the market, under the circumstances of a diversified
and extremely dynamic offer, more and more organizations are preoccupied with improving their
own environment performances. To this purpose, there are organizations that allocate significant
amounts of their investment funds, which favours the research–development approach of those
environmental friendly processes and products.
Nowadays, the quality philosophy replaces the quality myth. It is obviously not or the product and
service quality that is brought into discussion here, but also the relationship quality with the objects,
the quality of the personnel, their intellectual and cultural life, and the environment quality, as

Essay about Policies and Politics in Madagascar
Madagascar is among the countries that are termed as least developed in the world today (United
Nations, 2001). The implementation of trade agreement based on agriculture sector led to
sluggishness in the various market dynamics of the available grains. In addition to this, the quantity
of grains was declining and as a consequence of this, the revenues generated declined at an alarming
rate. The country was therefore obliged to opt for food import. This step was taken as a result of
reduction in the amount of aid granted to the government, and subsequent subsidization of exports.
Since Madagascar could not afford to offer export subsidization, the country's exports were highly
affected by the established policies such as non–tariff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The common people were involved in the actual digging of the gem. However, they just received
peanuts from the sale of the stones, while the wealthy would gain enormous cash from the sale of
the same. This was attributed to the fact that, the wealthy had all the necessary connections to
international markets. Despite this, the mining of gem was characterized by myriad negative effects
to the local environment. However, attempts from various non–governmental organizations (NGOs)
and donors to challenge the same, were completely blocked by the shadow state that had a very
great influence in Madagascar. Moreover, the mining act is practiced in selected and secured areas
thus limiting the efforts of various national and related international agencies to protect or conserve
the immediate surroundings. On the other side, the potential grounds for gem mining are located in
the secured government areas, and the rainforest zones which are known to have an enormous
degree of biodiversity. Thus many NGOs find it cumbersome to advocate for ecotourism and
national parks. This is attributed to the fact that NGOs are not able to prove to the Government,
potential donors, and various available private business that ecotourism earns more revenue which is
sustainable than carrying out gem mining in the area. The inherent gem mining in the area has
resulted to an overwhelming cultural as well as political impact in the vicinity of the local areas.

Why Is A New Environmental Assessment Regime Necessary?
1. Why is a new environmental assessment regime necessary? What prompted the goals outlined in
the Liberal platform and the subsequent environmental assessment review?
Ever since the creation of the National Energy Board, the idea of an environmental assessment
regime has been necessary to accommodate the different types of environmental projects and
concerns that appear over the years. An environmental government signifies a new set of regulations
and mechanisms for impacts to be analyzed at the state and provincial level. From then onwards,
many advocates of environmental change have identified that communities and local groups should
be part of the governance process. This is why public private partnerships and public consultation
are formed. Moreover, a new environment regime allows for a quicker implementation of projects.
As the public input from the community and other interested parties would be less inclined to
challenge any proposal that benefits them. Perhaps the most important part of why a new
environmental regime is vital is to anticipate the adverse risks of climate change.
In the North American context, the origins of EIA has been dated back to the 1960's where
environmental awareness and the public was upset in the USA. The National Environmental Policy
Act that was developed in 1969 was one of the first forms of legislated that was a form of EIA
(Wall, 2016). This was the first indication of how federal government should consider the

What Is Public Involvement And Consultation?
Public Involvement and Consultation Ever since the process of approving and building the DGR
began, there was ample room for public participation in the steps needed to move forward with the
project. The engagement of the public, including the aboriginal persons native to the area, took form
in many ways between the years 2002 to 2011. As with any project, the participation and approval of
the general public is crucial to the key milestones in both the development and regulatory approval
process of the DGR Project. Once the project obtained support from the public the process did not
end there, there are many efforts put forth through continual evaluation and monitoring to maintain
the support from all the people that the DGR will affect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were numerous print materials sent to the residents of these municipalities and a community
consultation centre in Kincardine was opened to ensure the public was directly involved in the
decisions process. After the Council in Kincardine passed a vote to request the DGR Project (2004)
as its preferred method for managing L&ILW, there were still independent polls conducted with the
residents of Kincardine to ensure there was enough public support for the project to continue along
with the submission process. Once the submission of the DGR Project Description was approved by
the public, the process for the Environmental Assessment of the project began in 2005. This lead to
the enhancement of the Public Participation program to include more information and evaluations
for the public to be a part of. The main concern of the public at this point was the proper
identification of potential issues in the design, maintenance, and operation of the DGR. If there were
to be predicted issues and adverse effects from the site, how would mitigation of these potential
effects be handled? For example, the potential adverse effects on the water quality in the
surrounding area (Lake Huron) was a topic that was brought up frequently by the residents.
Geological studies conducted on the issue deemed that there would not be any negative effects on
the water quality in the area. The design of the DGR has the waste

Background And Summative Assessment And Their Impact On...
Assessment Matters
According to Newman, Fielstein, & Phelps (2013), as a teacher, it's important to have firm
knowledge of summative and formative assessment and their function in ensuring that students are
mastering the significant skills and contents. It's also important for educators capably consider the
information gathered from assessments and use them in making decisions, which support all the
students' learning. This week, builds on the previous assignment while focusing on the importance
of assessments. Assessments matter for both learning and teaching.
The assignment is based on the videos "Rick Wormeli: Formative and Summative Assessment" and
"TEDxSoCal – Dr. Brian Stecher – Cultivating Thriving Schools." Both videos used in this
assignment study the function accountability plays and its impact on educators' work in schools. In
his video, Stecher (2011) discusses three indicators in detail, which drive all that occurs in schools.
Wormeli (2010) on the other hand, outlines how different knowledge types are assessed. The
bottom–line is to seek the importance of assignments in learning/teaching for both learners and
teachers.
An assessment is an assortment of devices or techniques used by instructors to measure, assess, and
report the learning progress, scholarly preparedness, instructive requirement, or ability obtaining of
students (Newman, et al., 2013). Additionally, assessments help to distinguish each students' strong
qualities and struggling areas. For this

Climate Change And Environmental Threats
Climate change and environmental threats came more into focus in the last years and presently they
represent a large challenge for the society. This means that environmental considerations have to be
integrated into a number of different decisions made by businesses, individuals, policymakers and
public administrators (Finnveden et al.
2009). Environmental Systems analysis is the field that 'attempts to find supply technology systems
solutions to these challenges' (Chalmers University, 2012)
In the last years, many tools and methods have been developed to evaluate the environmental
impacts of different systems, such as Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment

Environmental effects include the materials and energy resources required to make the product, and
also, the wastes and emissions produced in the process. It is often called as 'cradle to grave' view of
seeing resource consumption (Pehnt 2006). Results of LCAs can be valuable for recognizing areas
with large environmental impact, and for evaluating and improving designs. Therefore, in order to
identify the environmental performances, for example, emissions and energy savings, from different
type of renewable energy, a full evaluation from 'cradle to grave' should be done. LCA is then has
been the method to measure the total impact of resource consumption. LCA is a multistep technique
for calculating the lifetime environmental impact of a product or service.
The International Standard ISO 14040 described the levels of an LCA as follows:
Goal and scope definition
Inventory analysis
Impact assessment

Impact Of Formative Assessment On Student Learning
What is formative assessment and how does it impact on student learning?
Formative assessment – is assessment for learning. It is used at the beginning of an instructional
period and during the process of instruction as teachers check for student understanding. Diagnostic
tools determine what students already know and where there are gaps and misconceptions.
Formative assessment also includes assessment as learning, where students reflect on and monitor
their own progress. The information gained guides teachers' decisions in how to enhance teaching
and learning. Students will reflect on and monitor progress; this progress intern becomes assessment
as learning because it contributes to students planning for future learning goals. (Chappuis, 2009,
p.4) A notable finding of Black and Wiliam's work is that formative assessment has a
disproportionately beneficial impact on low‐achieving students. They state that, "while formative
assessment can help all pupils, it yields particularly good results with low achievers by
concentrating on specific problems with their work and giving them a clear understanding of what is
wrong and how to put it right" The assumption here is that formative assessment shows students that
underperformance is not innate and that improvements can be made through targeted changes (Black
and Wiliam, "Inside the Black Box," Op. cit., p. 6.)
Another main attribute to meaningful classroom dialogue is the teachers' ability to pitch good,
thought–out and well–planned questions to assist students and scaffold their learning by prompting
them with thought evoking and reflective questions, requiring the student to think. (Black & Wiliam
in Gardner, 2006). It must be noted that for this process to be effective, teachers need to provide
students with adequate thinking time to formulate their answers and in turn manifest their learning.
Finally applying new modes of pedagogy and significant changes in classroom practice will assist in
student understanding by having students make self–assessments through their own assessment
process. Self–assessment increases students' sense of responsibility to learn and over time relieves
teachers with less of a responsibility to actively assess and coach students

A Brief Note On Tackle Complex Policy Issues
The most interesting part of the article to me is how it explains how to tackle complex policy issues
and exactly what the hardest problems are to agree on how to mitigate/combat most efficiently. The
paper discusses the most complex policy issues and their characteristics, how to tackle them with
possible strategies, avoiding the narrow approach and instead the need for flexible approaches, the
importance of working across organisation boundaries, reviewing the framework, effectively
engaging with stakeholders, and the importance of achieving behaviour change within the citizens. I
have not come across anything similar to this before, and so I feel indifferent towards the attitude of

Discussion: Public transport services can have social and environmental impacts; these include air
and noise pollution, land disturbance (train tracks), and traffic congestion. According to the
Australian Bureau of Statistics (2003), "there is concern that current technology for powering
transport systems may be unsustainable in the long–term", which is why funding is needed to
upgrade to renewable trains and trams. Although public transport emits carbon dioxide (CO2), the
emission is significantly lower compared to private vehicles; public transport such as trains use 2%,
whilst private vehicles (cars) use 43% (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2003).
Resources required: According to the Government of South Australia in Department of Planning,
Transport, and Infrastructure (n.d.), recent upgrades to one of the train lines to be electrified cost $2
billion. It is expected other lines will estimate to cost around the same budget.
Risks: The risks associated with this proposal revolve around political, legal, economic, and
environmental risks. Recently, Adelaide Metro employees were on strike due to low pay; if the
Government were to build more train tracks and improve the services by creating more routes, the
employees may go on strike again, creating a political and legal risk. An economic risk is

The Impact Assessment For Learning
Introduction
Despite the amount of current research on the impact assessment for learning (AfL) strategies have
had on student's achievement levels across the secondary curriculum, there has been limited
attention on its effect on students within design and technology and more specifically textiles.
This critical evaluation therefore reflects upon a range of AfL strategies used within a unit of work
on construction techniques for a year 10 textiles class at School X. The analysis was made across 3
consecutive lessons over 3 weeks, each lesson would include a different AfL strategy or a
combination of a range of different strategies.
School X is a small academy comprehensive providing secondary education to mixed gender 11–16
year olds with an above average percentage of SEN students. This group consists of 17 students, all
female, with a mixture of high and low attainers and 3 SEN pupils who all have mild learning
difficulties (MLD) and lack of confidence within themselves and their work.
At School X, they hold strong belief that AfL needs to be a part of every lesson to create
independent learners. They focus on lessons driven by WALT (we are learning to) and WILFs (what
I am look for) as well as rich questioning, peer– and self–assessment, amongst many other key
strategies to develop learners to their full potential.
Within textiles technology as well as other practical based subjects marking work can be very
subjective and so it can be tricky at times to mark work in a

The Impact Of Multiple Actions On The Environment
1. Introduction
Many research efforts have demonstrated that a direct environmental impact from a single action is
often insignificant, and in reality, it is the numerous minor impacts from multiple actions that cause
the greatest environmental harm (Dales 2011, Franks et al. 2012, DNRM 2013, Finlayson et al.
2008, Neville 2009, Sonter et al. 2013). These are referred to as cumulative impacts, "the
successive, incremental, and combined impacts of multiple actions on the environment" (Dales, J
2011). There are four characteristics of cumulative impacts as summarized from Franks et al. 2012,
these include;
1. Cumulative impacts may be caused by future, present or past activities,
2. Cumulative impacts can differ greatly in intensity, space ... Show more content on

2012).
Due to population growth, much pressure has been placed on natural resources and the ecosystem
services that are essential to human life (Franks et al. 2012). Rapid changes to the environment such
as climate change and the use of natural resources affect the resilience of natural systems. Therefore,
appropriate management and assessment of cumulative impacts on the terrestrial and marine
environment from anthropogenic activities is crucial, albeit difficult, as impacts often extend outside
of the geographic location of a development. Further, impacts from an action can have a
compounding effect on outside systems already under stress from unrelated activities. Although
much legislation has been enacted in attempt to buffer stressors caused by anthropogenic land use,
environmental impact assessment and management approaches are often reactive, and consider
mainly the impacts of individual activities and how to mitigate them (Dales, J 2011, Sonter et al.
2013). Therefore, a more integrated, proactive and holistic approach needs to be applied when it
comes to the assessment and management cumulative impacts.
In the following essay, I will explore cumulative impacts on the terrestrial and marine environment
resulting from groundwater use, mining and agricultural practices in the Australian context. Using
examples from the Murray Darling Basin, Bowen Basin, the Fitzroy River and the Great Barrier
Reef, I will

MAIN BODY
This essay will begin by examining the government of Bhutan and its direction of improving the
economic structure of its country for a sustainable future. Bhutan is a country located on the
southern slopes of the eastern Himalayas. It is a country that is grappling with modernity and
development. Around thirty years ago, Bhutan was completely isolated. With that span of years, the
country is now known too much of the outside world. Recently elected Prime Minister, Tshering

acting on issues like youth employment, corruption, and the national debt is more necessary than
focusing solely on the GHN. Tobgay additionally concentrates on stopping corruption in Bhutan's
government, and interacting with the Bhutanese population. Tshering Tobgay declared that the
country is additionally carbon negative rather than simply carbon neutral. The Royal government of
Bhutan is comprised of 10 ministries which work in bringing the goal of Gross National Happiness

The Impact Of Formative Assessments On Standardized And...

  • 1. The Impact Of Formative Assessments On Standardized And... Introduction Formative assessments are used in elementary, secondary, and post–secondary schools as well as other educational institutions. Formative assessments allow teachers to give feedback to students about their strengths and weaknesses (Tovani, 2011). According to Lang et. al (2008), educators initiated the use of the formative assessment process to make predictions about students' outcomes on standardized or high–stakes tests. Lang, et al (2008) also contended the conception of formative assessments began when teachers and administrators started seeking new strategies in effort to improve students' performance. The state of Missouri uses formative assessments to measure students' performance. Missouri adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to ensure assessments align with standards. Missouri implemented CCSS to better prepare students for college and career readiness. The location of our school sits on the outskirts of Missouri. Our school serves students in the second through fifth (2–5) grades. Over thirty percent of our student population receives special education services and has an individualized education plan (IEP). Our administration team and teachers design instruction and assessments from our state's standards. We incorporate instruction time and make it applicable to our students' individualized learning needs. We use different forms of teaching styles to ensure our assessments align and measure adequately to our standards. In effort to ensure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. A Report On The Cleveland Street Workhouse Introduction Pathway, the homeless healthcare charity, is seeking for a property to carry out their homeless people medical respite strategy. The Cleveland Street Workhouse, located the eastern side of Cleveland Street, has become their potential target. However, they do not know whether this place could satisfy their objectives. Therefore, this report is aim to provide a guidance and some suggestions for the clients, to enable them carry out their strategy more easily. Land and property appraisal In this case, the information about this property is not enough to support us making any decisions. For example, THE CLEVELAND STREET WORKHOUSE Document 1(assignment sheet) has mentioned 'It is generally of poor quality internally and will need significant refurbishment, bearing in mind the listing of the front block'. Information like this is too weak to support our strategy and we need some more detailed information. Therefore, I think it is essential to make a Land and property appraisal. This contains a well– rounded check of the targeted land and property. Not only it lets us know how much cost is needed to maintain the property at an acceptable standard, but also it helps us to find out the opportunities for adaptation and rationalisation. In short, the Land and property appraisal let us know what to do, in which place, at what time. Is it the fundamental activity to set up a baseline assessment of the targeted land and property. Land and property appraisals could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is 'the process of decision making by identifying the potentially significant environmental effects and risks of a project'. Environmental impact analysis is one of the stages of an EIA (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). Environmental impact analysis is a process of providing decision makers with an indication of the likely consequences of their action (Wathern, 2013). This stage comprises impact identification and determination of the significance of the impacts. Impact identification is the process of illustrating cause and effect relationship of a project activities and key environmental aspects. It needs a systematic expert knowledge and judgment (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). In this study, key environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Introduction Climate change the 'wicked problem' is continuously imposing significant threat to the nature as whole according to the recent projections (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013). This anticipated hazard is unavoidable to some extent though the source of the problem ('green house gas' emission) is barred right now (IPCC 2014a). Combination of mitigation (reducing or capturing GHG) and adaptation effort has been suggested both in the short and long term to achieve the complementary advantage (i.e. cost) and to reduce the risk (IPCC 2014a; 2014b). Transportation, residential and business energy use and industrial sector is the major contributor of global GHG emission (EPA 2013). These three sectors are influenced actively by ... Human intervention on the climate structure is unambiguous. Further emissions of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and changes in all components of the climate system. Most characteristics of climate change will continue for many centuries even if emissions are stopped totally at this point (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013). 2.2 Mitigation Need 'Mitigation is a human intervention to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases' (IPCC 2014a). INTRODUCTION : DEFINITION : An environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an assessment of the possible positive or negative impact that a proposed project may have on the environment, together consisting of the environmental, social and economic aspects. PURPOSE : The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that decision makers consider the ensuing environmental impacts when deciding whether to proceed with a project. The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) defines an environmental impact assessment as "the process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the methods are GMP–RAM, INOVA etc.[8] Fuzzy Arithmetic – EIA methods need specific parameters and variables to be measured to estimate values of impact indicators. However many of the environment impact properties cannot be measured on a scale e.g. landscape quality, lifestyle quality, social acceptance etc. and moreover these indicators are very subjective. Thus to assess the impacts we may need to take the help of information from similar EIAs, expert criteria, sensitivity of affected population etc. To treat this information, which is generally inaccurate, systematically, fuzzy arithmetic and approximate reasoning methods can be utilised. This is called as a fuzzy logic approach.[9] At the end of the project, an EIA should be followed by an audit. An EIA audit evaluates the performance of an EIA by comparing actual impacts to those that were predicted. The main objective of these audits is to make future EIAs more valid and effective. The two main considerations are: scientific – to check the accuracy of predictions and explain errors. management– to assess the success of mitigation in reducing impacts. The authors carried out the assessment of the EIA process and identified the following weakness in the system. There are comprehensive guidelines, legal and legislative provisions but administrative setup is very weak. EIA is just a formality as most of the time EIA is conducted after start of construction. Coordination among the consultants and planners are very weak. Involvement of stakeholders into ToR process during scoping is inadequate which results in a thin coverage of socio–economic and environmental issues in the EIA reports. The quality of EIA reports are very poor and not up to the mark. The reason identified is the lack of experts and professionals. The importance of comprehensive site investigations and getting the right report, and by an EPA accredited auditor can be seen in the court case Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environmental & Earth Sciences Pty Ltd (2004) FCA 403. In this case Caltex had obtained development consent from the local council to decommission a suburban service station and remediate it to residential standards. A condition of the consent was that an auditor accredited by the EPA would sign off the completed decontamination. A consultant issued a report to Caltex stating that the former service station site was suitable for residential use, and the sale of the service station was completed relying on the report. The contract of sale contained a condition that the site would be suitable for purposes permitted by its current business zoning (in which residential flats were also permitted). However, the council then rejected the consultants report, as an EPA accredited auditor had not signed it off. The purchaser engaged its own accredited auditor, who recommended reporting to the authority that the site posed significant risk of harm to human health and the environment because of contaminated groundwater, off site migration, vapors and the presence of residential units down slope. Work stopped for 10 months, with the council instituting proceedings in the land and environment court to restrain work until an accredited auditor had validated the site, as required by its development consent. • 40. Improving Economic And Social Status Of A Region Introduction Presently, changes are being experienced in areas where development projects aimed at improving the economic and social status of a region are being carried. These changes happen to affect the environment within which the projects are being carried and they often call for strategies to be developed by the developing body to make sure that these impacts are reduced significantly (Beer, Au and Hall n.d.). Despite different development projects aiming at bringing about some positive changes in the society or in a given setting, studies show that the same projects may lead to conflicts between the environment and the human activities being carried out in that particular region. Initially, the campaign for economic growth was viewed as the key for increasing the standards of living in a given region but very little attention was given to the social and environmental sensitivity and impacts that accompanied these projects (Chen, Liu and Liaw 2011). As a result, there has been a growing need to reduce the impacts of the projects as well as making sure that the long term benefits of the projects are maximized in leading to sustainability of the projects. Therefore, in the case of pipeline industry, there are a number of impacts that the industry exposes to the environment as cases of spills may happen as well as destruction of the environment as the pipelines are laid (Even and Porter 2012). A review of recent experience world– wide suggests four necessary ingredients for effective EIA are as follows (Sadler B, 1996): l. Appropriate timing in initiating the assessment so that the project proposal is reviewed early enough to scope for development of reasonable alternatives to the project without affecting the environment and the community around; 2. Clear specific directions in the form of terms of reference or guidelines covering priority issues of the public involvement, timelines, and opportunities for information and input at key decision–making stages. 3. Quality information and products fostered by compliance with procedural guidelines and use of "good practices" of environmental management and monitoring plan; and 4. Receptivity of decision makers and proponents to the results of the EIA so that EIA decisions are implemented. All the issues above must be investigated for the effectiveness of the EIA at Buzwagi Goldmine. Effective EIA aid in decision–making and achievement of sustainable development of the project without causing negative environmental outcomes (Glasson et. al.2005). Literature also states that EIA is effective if it achieves its goals for environmental protection, assesses and mitigates impacts throughout the life of a project (Lee et. al. 1999). The implementation of trade agreement based on agriculture sector led to sluggishness in the various market dynamics of the available grains. In addition to this, the quantity of grains was declining and as a consequence of this, the revenues generated declined at an alarming rate. The country was therefore obliged to opt for food import. Despite this, the mining of gem was characterized by myriad negative effects to the local environment. On the other side, the potential grounds for gem mining are located in the secured government areas, and the rainforest zones which are known to have an enormous degree of biodiversity. Thus many NGOs find it cumbersome to advocate for ecotourism and national parks. • 48. Why Is A New Environmental Assessment Regime Necessary? 1. Why is a new environmental assessment regime necessary? What prompted the goals outlined in the Liberal platform and the subsequent environmental assessment review? Ever since the creation of the National Energy Board, the idea of an environmental assessment regime has been necessary to accommodate the different types of environmental projects and concerns that appear over the years. An environmental government signifies a new set of regulations and mechanisms for impacts to be analyzed at the state and provincial level. From then onwards, many advocates of environmental change have identified that communities and local groups should be part of the governance process. This is why public private partnerships and public consultation are formed. Moreover, a new environment regime allows for a quicker implementation of projects. As the public input from the community and other interested parties would be less inclined to challenge any proposal that benefits them. Perhaps the most important part of why a new environmental regime is vital is to anticipate the adverse risks of climate change. In the North American context, the origins of EIA has been dated back to the 1960's where environmental awareness and the public was upset in the USA. The National Environmental Policy Act that was developed in 1969 was one of the first forms of legislated that was a form of EIA (Wall, 2016). • 58. Background And Summative Assessment And Their Impact On... Assessment Matters According to Newman, Fielstein, & Phelps (2013), as a teacher, it's important to have firm knowledge of summative and formative assessment and their function in ensuring that students are mastering the significant skills and contents. It's also important for educators capably consider the information gathered from assessments and use them in making decisions, which support all the students' learning. This week, builds on the previous assignment while focusing on the importance of assessments. Assessments matter for both learning and teaching. The assignment is based on the videos "Rick Wormeli: Formative and Summative Assessment" and "TEDxSoCal – Dr. Brian Stecher – Cultivating Thriving Schools." Both videos used in this assignment study the function accountability plays and its impact on educators' work in schools. In his video, Stecher (2011) discusses three indicators in detail, which drive all that occurs in schools. Wormeli (2010) on the other hand, outlines how different knowledge types are assessed. The bottom–line is to seek the importance of assignments in learning/teaching for both learners and teachers. An assessment is an assortment of devices or techniques used by instructors to measure, assess, and report the learning progress, scholarly preparedness, instructive requirement, or ability obtaining of students (Newman, et al., 2013). Additionally, assessments help to distinguish each students' strong qualities and struggling areas. For this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Climate Change And Environmental Threats Climate change and environmental threats came more into focus in the last years and presently they represent a large challenge for the society. This means that environmental considerations have to be integrated into a number of different decisions made by businesses, individuals, policymakers and public administrators (Finnveden et al. 2009). Environmental Systems analysis is the field that 'attempts to find supply technology systems solutions to these challenges' (Chalmers University, 2012) In the last years, many tools and methods have been developed to evaluate the environmental impacts of different systems, such as Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA), Strategic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Environmental effects include the materials and energy resources required to make the product, and also, the wastes and emissions produced in the process. It is often called as 'cradle to grave' view of seeing resource consumption (Pehnt 2006). Results of LCAs can be valuable for recognizing areas with large environmental impact, and for evaluating and improving designs. Therefore, in order to identify the environmental performances, for example, emissions and energy savings, from different type of renewable energy, a full evaluation from 'cradle to grave' should be done. LCA is then has been the method to measure the total impact of resource consumption. LCA is a multistep technique for calculating the lifetime environmental impact of a product or service. The International Standard ISO 14040 described the levels of an LCA as follows: Goal and scope definition Inventory analysis Impact assessment Interpretation of results Figure 7.1 Phases of a LCA study (ISO, 2006) 7.1 Life cycle assessment and micro CHP systems There are only a few studies at present that focus on LCA of SOFC implemented systems (Staffell & Green 2012; Giannopoulos & Founti 2011a; Pehnt 2001; Pöschl et al. 2010; Patterson et al. 2011; Lunghi et al. 2004). • 65. Impact Of Formative Assessment On Student Learning What is formative assessment and how does it impact on student learning? Formative assessment – is assessment for learning. It is used at the beginning of an instructional period and during the process of instruction as teachers check for student understanding. Diagnostic tools determine what students already know and where there are gaps and misconceptions. Formative assessment also includes assessment as learning, where students reflect on and monitor their own progress. The information gained guides teachers' decisions in how to enhance teaching and learning. Students will reflect on and monitor progress; this progress intern becomes assessment as learning because it contributes to students planning for future learning goals. (Chappuis, 2009, p.4) A notable finding of Black and Wiliam's work is that formative assessment has a disproportionately beneficial impact on low‐achieving students. They state that, "while formative assessment can help all pupils, it yields particularly good results with low achievers by concentrating on specific problems with their work and giving them a clear understanding of what is wrong and how to put it right" The assumption here is that formative assessment shows students that underperformance is not innate and that improvements can be made through targeted changes (Black and Wiliam, "Inside the Black Box," Op. cit., p. 6.) Another main attribute to meaningful classroom dialogue is the teachers' ability to pitch good, thought–out and well–planned questions to assist students and scaffold their learning by prompting them with thought evoking and reflective questions, requiring the student to think. (Black & Wiliam in Gardner, 2006). It must be noted that for this process to be effective, teachers need to provide students with adequate thinking time to formulate their answers and in turn manifest their learning. Finally applying new modes of pedagogy and significant changes in classroom practice will assist in student understanding by having students make self–assessments through their own assessment process. Self–assessment increases students' sense of responsibility to learn and over time relieves teachers with less of a responsibility to actively assess and coach students ... A Brief Note On Tackle Complex Policy Issues The most interesting part of the article to me is how it explains how to tackle complex policy issues and exactly what the hardest problems are to agree on how to mitigate/combat most efficiently. The paper discusses the most complex policy issues and their characteristics, how to tackle them with possible strategies, avoiding the narrow approach and instead the need for flexible approaches, the importance of working across organisation boundaries, reviewing the framework, effectively engaging with stakeholders, and the importance of achieving behaviour change within the citizens. I have not come across anything similar to this before, and so I feel indifferent towards the attitude of the paper; I was neither surprised nor confronted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Discussion: Public transport services can have social and environmental impacts; these include air and noise pollution, land disturbance (train tracks), and traffic congestion. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2003), "there is concern that current technology for powering transport systems may be unsustainable in the long–term", which is why funding is needed to upgrade to renewable trains and trams. Although public transport emits carbon dioxide (CO2), the emission is significantly lower compared to private vehicles; public transport such as trains use 2%, whilst private vehicles (cars) use 43% (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2003). Resources required: According to the Government of South Australia in Department of Planning, Transport, and Infrastructure (n.d.), recent upgrades to one of the train lines to be electrified cost $2 billion. It is expected other lines will estimate to cost around the same budget. Risks: The risks associated with this proposal revolve around political, legal, economic, and environmental risks. Recently, Adelaide Metro employees were on strike due to low pay; if the Government were to build more train tracks and improve the services by creating more routes, the employees may go on strike again, creating a political and legal risk. • 73. The Impact Assessment For Learning Introduction Despite the amount of current research on the impact assessment for learning (AfL) strategies have had on student's achievement levels across the secondary curriculum, there has been limited attention on its effect on students within design and technology and more specifically textiles. This critical evaluation therefore reflects upon a range of AfL strategies used within a unit of work on construction techniques for a year 10 textiles class at School X. The analysis was made across 3 consecutive lessons over 3 weeks, each lesson would include a different AfL strategy or a combination of a range of different strategies. School X is a small academy comprehensive providing secondary education to mixed gender 11–16 year olds with an above average percentage of SEN students. This group consists of 17 students, all female, with a mixture of high and low attainers and 3 SEN pupils who all have mild learning difficulties (MLD) and lack of confidence within themselves and their work. At School X, they hold strong belief that AfL needs to be a part of every lesson to create independent learners. They focus on lessons driven by WALT (we are learning to) and WILFs (what I am look for) as well as rich questioning, peer– and self–assessment, amongst many other key strategies to develop learners to their full potential. Within textiles technology as well as other practical based subjects marking work can be very subjective and so it can be tricky at times to mark work in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Impact Of Multiple Actions On The Environment 1. Introduction Many research efforts have demonstrated that a direct environmental impact from a single action is often insignificant, and in reality, it is the numerous minor impacts from multiple actions that cause the greatest environmental harm (Dales 2011, Franks et al. 2012, DNRM 2013, Finlayson et al. 2008, Neville 2009, Sonter et al. 2013). These are referred to as cumulative impacts, "the successive, incremental, and combined impacts of multiple actions on the environment" (Dales, J 2011). There are four characteristics of cumulative impacts as summarized from Franks et al. 2012, these include; 1. Cumulative impacts may be caused by future, present or past activities, 2. Due to population growth, much pressure has been placed on natural resources and the ecosystem services that are essential to human life (Franks et al. 2012). Rapid changes to the environment such as climate change and the use of natural resources affect the resilience of natural systems. Therefore, appropriate management and assessment of cumulative impacts on the terrestrial and marine environment from anthropogenic activities is crucial, albeit difficult, as impacts often extend outside of the geographic location of a development. Further, impacts from an action can have a compounding effect on outside systems already under stress from unrelated activities. Although much legislation has been enacted in attempt to buffer stressors caused by anthropogenic land use, environmental impact assessment and management approaches are often reactive, and consider mainly the impacts of individual activities and how to mitigate them (Dales, J 2011, Sonter et al. 2013). Therefore, a more integrated, proactive and holistic approach needs to be applied when it comes to the assessment and management cumulative impacts. In the following essay, I will explore cumulative impacts on the terrestrial and marine environment resulting from groundwater use, mining and agricultural practices in the Australian context. Using examples from the Murray Darling Basin, Bowen Basin, the Fitzroy River and the Great Barrier Reef, I will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
