Harry James Motivation
As soon as 1939 when he had joined Harry James' music makers, a frenzy of female fans ensued.
Connie Haines, a singer who began working with Harry James at the time, recalled the reaction of
fans after Frank's first performance with James; "After the first show, the screaming started in the
theater, and those girls came backstage. There were about twenty of them... it happened, it was real,
it was not a gimmick" (Kaplan 76). The biggest height of the hysteria had to have been in October of
1944: the Paramount/Columbus Day Riot. Around 30,000 of Sinatra's fans, many of which were
teenage girls nicknamed bobbysoxers, lined up for his show at the Paramount Theatre in Times
Square (Doyle). The amount let in was over the safe capacity and thousands more waited outside for
shows later on in the day. However, only a few hundred would leave from the previous shows
causing a frenzy to ensue outside; over 400 people from the police department were stationed for the
day's chaotic events (Kaplan 227).
There was obviously a strong passion within Sinatra's early fan base. This could be a result of an
intimate connection Frank emitted to them. Writer Francis Davis ... Show more content on

Frank Sinatra made moves to confirm his desire through his life due to an unpredictable temper:
many were of an violent nature. Early on while working with Tommy Dorsey, drummer Buddy Rich
was fed up with having to adhere to Sinatra's slow ballads and called Sinatra a "son–of–a–b– wop
bast–––" (Kaplan 117). At this, Frank threw a glass water pitcher at Rich's head, just missing him.
Rich tackled Sinatra and they were in a fist–brawl. As a result Dorsey kept Rich and sent Sinatra
home for that night's show. Frank ended up hiring some Hoboken friends to punch Rich in the face a
few nights later (Kaplan 118). It was reported in the news, but it was unknown to the public who had
attacked Buddy

Carolyn Kizer's Bitch: Closing the Doors on the Past Essay
The poem "Bitch" by Carolyn Kizer, published in 1984, is one that truly grasps the reader's
attention, beginning with the title itself. The overall tone of this poem intertwines the feelings of
sadness and anger and also reveals quite a bit about the speaker's past. The speaker is referring to
her inner self as the "bitch" and her hurt condition is clearly present throughout the poem. She uses
words such as "bark, growling, slobbers and whimper" to drive this meaning across to the reader. It
is in the speaker's own representation of her inner self as a "bitch," one that not only "bark[s]
hysterically," but also may "whimper," and even "cringe". The speaker is easily inclined to
remember past memories from the relationship and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line 7 ("He isn't an enemy now") the speaker is telling herself that she should not be dwelling on
the past because her ex can't hurt her anymore. The "bitch" seems to be doing fine in controlling her
emotions until line 9 when her ex–lover asks her: ""How are the children? They must be growing
up." An immediate change of tone occurs here. There is an internal struggle going on between her
heart and her mind. The speaker's mind is telling her to be polite to her ex, forget the past and move
on. The bitch's heart, on the other hand, is keeping her from moving on and causing her to struggle
with feelings of desire. This is clear, for example, in lines 10–13: "At a kind word from him...
Down, girl! Keep your distance." The speaker knows that if she accidentally gets to close to this ex–
lover by having feelings again, she will only end up getting hurt. Kind words and gestures can often
be deceiving and I have learned that unfortunately charming people are dangerous. I have been hurt
numerous times by such personalities by only looking at their kind side and ignoring other flaws.
The bitch is warning herself to not get caught up in this trap of feelings again.
Quite a bit of information about the past is exposed in (lines 17–21): "... She is basically loyal...
Until he was ready to play." This means that the speaker was always loyal and kind to her lover, but
he was bored with her and still thought that she was not good enough. The

There are global marketing events that can be utilized to support the brand such as the soccer World
Cup and The Olympics (marketingteacher.com). Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Even
if everyone in the world didn't know about Nike before the Olympics and World Cups, they would
certainly figure out sooner or later by wondering what the "check mark" stands for.
Also, Nike and Apple have a collaboration and it worked out great for both parties. Nike is the
leader in the sports world and Apple is without a doubt the leader in music and overall technology
basically. On May 23, 2006 Apple and Nike announced a partnership bringing the worlds of sports
and music together like never before with the launch of innovative and complete genius, Nike+iPod
products. This was a great idea. Apple is a great company that prides themselves on being a leader in
the technology and music industry. I feel that Nike and Apple are the two of the most powerful
companies on the face of the earth right now. No competitor is slowing either company down.
The first product developed through this partnership is the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, a wireless system

Family Guy And Spongebob
When I was a young child around the years between seven and twelve, I used to come home from
school and watch Family Guy. My mom would often catch me watching this show and yell at me,
but to be honest I thought it was funny. So I told my dad that I was watching Family Guy quite often
and he didn't even care, so it all worked out. One thing that I noticed through all of this, is that I
knew I was watching a great cartoon when I would watch ut over and over again and feel
entertained by it. That's what i did all the time with Family Guy and Spongebob and other various
cartoons. I would come home and watch them and even watch these shows before school to get me

Squidward's way and always bothering Squidward, so he is never able to get a break or peace for an

problems throughout the show is Kyle from South Park. Not only does Kyle have to deal with his
parents always getting in the way of what he is trying to do, but Kyle also has to deal with Cartman's
harassment to him all the time. Kyle is just trying to live a happy, peaceful, normal child's life but
these characters are always in the way in a comical way. The Third and final example of how great
cartoons always have a character solving a personal problem is Danny Phantom. Danny is just trying
to live the normal teenage life and get through school, but these pesky ghosts keep on coming and
trying to harass him and terrorize the school or his friends. Danny basically never gets a break and
that is kind of annoying for him, but it is a crucial part of the show. These are examples of how all

Anger Is A Basic Human Emotion That Is Experienced By All...
"Anger is a basic human emotion that is experienced by all people" (Mills, 2005). It is a natural
response, triggered when someone feels hurt or mistreated. However, it is not just a clear–cut
emotion that consists of one general feeling that is the same for everyone. The levels of anger that a
person feels may not always be identical and there are varying degrees of responses that someone
can express when they are experiencing this sentiment. How often a person gets angry, how
intensely they feel this emotion, and how long it lasts varies for every individual. This results in a
range of intensity of the anger that they express. Moreover, how a person decides to handle this
emotional signal can be a decisive factor as to any consequential effects that may occur. Some forms
of expression are perfectly healthy and normal for a person to exhibit, meanwhile others pose more
serious problems. When it is "well managed, anger has very few detrimental health or interpersonal
consequences" (Mills, 2005). Nevertheless, when someone demonstrates hostility they "not only
increase [their] risk for an early death, but also risk social isolation, which itself is a major risk
factor for serious illness and death" (Mills, 2005). The poems "A Poison Tree," "Bitch," and
"Daddy" all demonstrate an expression of a distinctive quality of anger. In each of the works, a
different level of this emotion is exhibited ranging from resentment to wrath. In both "Bitch" by

Literary Interpretation In Kich By Carolyn Kizer's Bitch
Carolyn Kizer's "Bitch" is describing the unnamed woman's feelings towards an ex–lover from an
unspecified time in the past, which she has just encountered. The woman was extremely hurt by the
ex and has a lot of anger deep inside towards this person, but does not want to demonstrate it. The
main image is the speaker and the ex–lover running into one another and catching up. "Now, when
he and I meet, after all these years, I say to the bitch in me, don't start growling." (Kizer 1,2). The
tone of the poem is angry, sad, and reflects a relationship where she was hurt and misses the other
person. The woman tries to control her inner feelings when she encounters the man, concealing her
true feelings with polite conversation. Just by the tone of her inner feelings, you can see the woman
thinks the man from her past caused her harm. The woman of Carolyn Kizer's "Bitch" provides a
satiric interpretation of a typical meeting between her and an ex– lover since the end of their
relationship. In a single, thirty–four–line stanza, the woman participates in a witty monologue that
displays a ideally ironic division: the woman's two coinciding but opposite interchanges, one
entailing of the woman's external conversation with her former lover and the other of silent
warnings, threats, and clarifications to her inner self, represented in the poem as a bitch. The speaker
is camouflaging compelling emotions with external civility. While the hiding of true feelings is an

Summary Of Carolyn Kizer's Bitch
Arguably, poetry could be considered one of the biggest mediums artists use to express themselves
to an audience. Everyday, radio stations play hundreds of poems to listeners who feel direct
connections to what they hear. A great poet can write a piece, while never having met it's reader, that
poem will leave the reader feeling as if it were written for them. Pulitzer Prize Winner Carolyn
Kizer, wrote poems that connected with millions of women during the 1960's, 70's and 80's. During
a time, when women were not to be taken seriously, she was considered one of the first feminists
and spread her messages to readers from all walks of life. One piece Kizer wrote late in her career
entitled, 'Bitch', describes a person's feelings towards an ex–lover as they run into each other years
later. If Kizer was attempting to give readers a deeper understanding on the inner struggles that a
female faces during her interpersonal relationship with a former partner, then I think she has
succeeded. The poems point of view has readers following the inner thoughts of a woman as well as

When they first encounter one another inside the woman is still angry and hurt shown by the line "I
say to the bitch inside me, don't start growling" (Kizer 2), yet externally the woman only conveys a
calm and kind manner by speaking to her ex–lover with the line "Nice to see you". (Kizer 5) I think
these two lines are spot on because when one runs into an ex years later internal instinct will have
them relive moments in the past and why it didn't work or what left them hurt. Yet, at the same time
said person would never want to show an ex that they haven't moved on, rather they would want to
show the past is the past so one will usually display a fake kindness towards

The Bean Trees And Pro Femin A Comparative Analysis
In Barbara Kingsolver's "The Bean Trees" and in "Pro Femina" by Carolyn Kizer both show the
significance of family, emotional support, and perseverance within women, including how women
united play an important role in society!
Family is an important literacy element use and effect in The Bean Trees. Taylor from Pitman

through Oklahoma she lands on Cherokee land, and notices how depressing it is, and decides not to
stay there, as she expected better because her mom said if they ever ran out of luck, the reservation

Perseverance is essential for anyone to overcome conflicts, and an important literacy element
throughout both pieces of literature. In a scholastic article "Brief History Women's Rights
Movements it states, "The force of the Women's Rights Movement, spearheaded by NOW, was
brought to bear on the major issue of the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the
Constitution." Together women have been facing equal right issues, and have been persevering
together to have those rights. This relates to the Bean Trees because Lou Ann pregnant finds out her
husband Angel left, and she has to persevere through a difficult time. She overcomes her hatred
towards her appearance, and finds a job! Taylor perseveres finding a job to support her and Turtle,
and has Estevan and Esperanza pose as her parents even though they are undocumented immigrants,
and adopt her. Both Taylor and Lou Ann persevere through any conflict that gets thrown at them just

Pain By Carolyn Kizer
In the name of love Pain. Read the word and wait. Pain. There is a heaviness laid upon every heart at
the sound of it. Pain. That tinge of trepidation at seeing the sight of such an unsightly word written
to paper, that blackness reeling back memories of failure and deceit and times when the world felt
just a little too big to have a place for everyone, that time they left out the door, uncaring of your
feelings of loneliness, is contained within four letters. Pain. Even a mere moment of reflection can
bring back a whole lifetime of mistakes. Pain plants seeds of sorrow that grow into living beings,
which can last eternally. Carolyn Kizer personifies pain's power in her poem ¨Bitch¨ through her
usage of tone, imagery, and contrast to present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The nature of a dog is to be man's best friend. Within Kizer's expression of the speaker's animalistic
pain lies the foundational trait of unrequited love: the ability to forgive flaws for the hope of
reciprocation by the beloved. A quick glimpse of "a look like the old days" (10) removes the alarm
felt initially with a simple desire "to snuggle up to him, to cringe" (12). This transition demonstrates
that her love was genuine because she still holds the desire to forgive him for his transgression. The
only thing holding her back is the strict image of her rationality knowing to "drag [these feelings]
off by the scruff" (33) because he will never love her back. Indeed, there is nothing more fitting to
describe her pain forever watching for a sign that their love can be mutual, like a dutiful sheephound
scouting the horizon for the return of its master and the praise of a job well done. The naivety of this
pet drives its endless search. A dog knows not of the harshness of rejection, and this fact of life gives
purpose to the speaker's expression of unrequited love. The heart cannot learn because of its nature
to forgive. Expression of the difficulties that are aroused in tragic circumstances cannot be dealt
with in such a malleable manner, so understanding rejection becomes the burden of the mind.

Similarities Between 'Bitch And Men At Forty' By Donald...
Poetry is defined as "a literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity
by the use of distinctive style and rhythm"(Oxford). Poetry can be written about anything, and there
are many different types of poetry. A few examples of different types of poetry are spoken word,
free verse, and sonnets. Each of these types of poems have certain qualities and characteristics that
make them unique. The two poems entitled "Bitch" by Carolyn Kizer and "Men at Forty" by Donald
Justice each have unique qualities and characteristics about them, but they also have a few things in
common such as gender, and the use of metaphors and similes. Out of the two poems, "Bitch" is the

Kizer's poem is one long metaphor, as she compares the character to a dog throughout the whole
poem. For example, when Kizer says "She slobbers and grovels" she is telling the reader about the
emotions the character is feeling while talking to a man that she has not seen in many year (Kizer
20). Another example of comparing the character to a dog is when she writes "she begins to
whimper"(Kizer 15). Overall, her poem is a long metaphor because she never describes herself as a
normal human. Justice uses more similes than metaphors in his poem "Men at Forty". In each stanza
he uses at least one simile to describe how mens lives change. For example, when talking about how
the earth feels to men as they get older Justice writes, "They feel it moving beneath them like the
deck of a ship" (Justice 7). Throughout the poem Justice continues to use comparisons similar to the
example previously given, but Kizer's poem is the stronger and more satisfying

Theodore Roethke Essays
Theodore Roethke
"Roethke was a great poet, the successor to Frost and Stevens in modern American poetry, and it is
the measure of his greatness that his work repays detailed examination" (Parini 1). Theodore
Roethke was a romantic who wrote in a variety of styles throughout his long successful career.
However, it was not the form of his verse that was important, but the message being delivered and
the overall theme of the work. Roethke was a deep thinker and often pondered about and reflected
on his life. This introspection was the topic of much of his poetry. His analysis of his self and his
emotional experiences are often expressed in his verse. According to Ralph J. Mills Jr., "this self

According to Allan Seager, "most of the reviews were good and those that contained adverse
criticisms tacitly acknowledged that it was the work of a genuine poet and not a beginner"
(Contemporary Authors 476). His next two volumes, The Lost Son and Other Poems (1948) and

of indomitable creativeness and audacity, difficult, heroic, moving, and profoundly disquieting is
one of the most remarkable in American history" (Contemporary Authors 478). Roethke received a

In the poem 'She Rose to His Requirement' by Emily Dickinson is about a woman who married
during the 1800s when society saw marriage as a duty and a way of life for women. They would
marry young causing the girl to become a woman over night. This poem sarcastically describes
marriage as an honorable duty that women must rise to the occasion of fulfilling the man's
requirements. this is shown in this line "She rose to His Requirement" the H is capitalized as if to

The Discipline Of Environmental History
The discipline of Environmental History is found within various books, and many times these books
do not use this history as their only starting point. By combining a multitude of studies and
methodologies, authors explore the aspects of the environment and nature along with human
interaction to understand how they commingle, affecting one another. In the following four books,
scholars from varying backgrounds approach environmental history in a variety of ways in order to
prove their thesis. Their methodologies form their thought process and lead to the structure of these
books. By digging deeper into this process, revealing their intentions, enabling readers to understand
how methodology fuels the writing process, creating an argument, and producing valuable work.
A strong cooperation lies at the heart of Lisa M. Brady's article entitled, Has Environmental History
Lost Its Way? and sets the tone for many of the following books. She reveals that in order to study
environmental history one must not necessarily be trained in that field. Rather, a conglomeration of
backgrounds can provide insight into the study. Additionally, her article takes a materialistic
approach, suggesting that straying too far from this idea will lead to the breakdown of this study.
While this seems to be the foundation of her article, her ultimate goal is a juxtaposition between the
previous approach and the idea that expanding the field is vital in creating a contemporary narrative.

The Issue Of Paid Parental Leave
INTRODUCTION
Is America falling behind the rest of the world in terms of the services it provides? As a proud
citizen of this great nation I, unfortunately, have to say "yes." Our once outstanding country has
been falling behind in a number of areas including technology, education, economics, and yes, even
in family care! America is now one of only three industrialized countries that hasn't set up a
nationwide policy for paid parental leave. With this knowledge I desired to know more, particularly
if we as a nation are not doing much to rectify the situation. Then, to learn if any states were doing
something about this issue which effects so many people in the workforce. I wanted to see exactly
how far behind, compared to the rest world, we are in the issue of paid parental leave. The Pew
Research Center conducted a study of government supported leave in 38 OECD countries, and
found that the US had the lowest figures with zero weeks of paid leave. Though we did fare better
when it came to the number of weeks provided for protected leave with 12 weeks. We were still far
worse than most other OECD countries (see Figure 1 at right). Knowing that we were rated worse I
wanted to know what people are saying that we can and should be doing to change this situation?
BACKGROUND
The first recorded policy involving working pregnant women was in 1877 in Switzerland. It stated

How Is Hate Different From Each Other
Humans have always been able to express a variety of emotions, whether its happiness, sadness,
empathy, etc. Yet, one of the most complicated feelings we are capable of expressing is hatred. The
reason why is because there are so many different levels of hate that one can go through, depending
on the relationship that they have with that person and why they are angry. For instance, the hate
that one feels for a stranger is very different from the hate they feel toward someone they know or
care about. This is depicted in William Blake's "A Poison Tree" and Carolyn Kizer's "Bitch", where
one of the poems portrays the difference between the feelings of hatred one has for a close friend
compared to that of a foe, and the other describes the hate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For this reason, when one is angry with a friend, and they confess, it automatically melts into love
and friendship. However, when one is angry with an enemy, they bury their anger as it continues to
grow, because it is never expressed. According to "A Poison Tree," when one buries their anger
rather than acknowledging it, that anger turns into a seed that will eventually sprout into hatred. The
seed is then nourished by the negativity of the angry person, allowing their wrath to flourish into a
mighty force or "tree" that could potentially destroy both parties. It is implied by the title that the
tree is poison, telling the reader that by ignoring or suppressing their anger, they are also poisoned.
As a result, the tree "...grew day and night [until] it bore an apple bright," hinting at some of the
destructive consequences that can result when one cultivates their anger (9–10). For instance, the
foreboding tone of the final line; is the speaker's delight at the "foe outstretched beneath the tree,"
which offers a warning about what can happen when one suppresses their anger (16). Therefore, by
ignoring or denying ones feelings, they can become destructive, hostile, and even

Summary Of Carolyn Kizer's Bitch
Carolyn Kizer's "Bitch" is describing the unnamed woman's feelings towards an ex–lover from an
unspecified time in the past, which she has just encountered. The woman was extremely hurt by the
ex and has a lot of anger deep inside towards this person, but does not want to demonstrate it. "The
Wizard of Oz wisely understood the hazards of having a heart –a heart can be broken. But, what
causes a heart to break more or less? It is well known that individuals who have recently ended a
romantic relationship report lower levels of well–being than those who are in relationships."
(Rhodes et al. 1). The main image is the speaker and the ex–lover running into one another and
catching up. "Now, when he and I meet, after all these years, I say to ... Show more content on

The point of view of this poem is very attention grabbing. In the first 28 lines the poem is in first
person talking about the bitch in the third person. However, in the last six lines it changes to second
person referring to the bitch as you. The use of a dialogue in the poem helps to make the poem more
remarkable and genuine. The dialogue aids the reader to understand the speaker's exact feelings. The
woman might be asking how the man is getting along, but in all honesty, that is not what she is

Terry Teachout's Taking Sinatra Seriously
Surprisingly, despite his mentality of seeing himself as the next great singer, Frank had some trouble
singing at first. In his article, "Taking Sinatra Seriously", Terry Teachout stated that Sinatra's voice
tended to sound a bit awkward, unaware, and uncomfortable in faster–paced songs; it would take
around a decade for him to reach full vocal development (55). As a result, his friend Hank Sanicola
prompted Frank to take singing lessons. One of Sinatra's instructors was former Metropolitan Opera
singer, John Quinlan. Quinlan had him do vocal exercises as well as pronunciation work: attempting
to eliminate his Hoboken accent from songs. Fortunately, these lessons did work to Frank's overall
advantage; he felt much more confident with his singing, despite his old friends mocking him for
sounding so proper (Kaplan 53). Furthermore, while working early in his career with band–leader
and skilled trombone player Tommy Dorsey, Frank attempted to pick up more skills from this
master of breath control. "I used to watch Tommy's back, his jacket, to see when he would breathe",
Sinatra later admitted (Kaplan 105). Naturally, Frank worked to improve his lung capacity: he did so
apparently by swimming in pools for hours, holding his breath underwater ... Show more content on

At that point, I'm trying to understand the point of view of the person behind the words. I want to
understand his emotions. Then I start speaking, not singing, the words so I can get the right
inflections. When I get with the orchestra, I sing the words without a microphone at first, so I can
adjust the way I've been practicing the arrangement. I'm looking to fit the emotion behind the song
that I've come up with to the music. Then it all comes together. You sing the song. If the take is
good, you're done" (Kaplan 108). This was the genius that Sinatra possessed even in the lowest part
of his career, even during recording sessions for records that would barely sell at the

The Poem Pro Femina By Carolyn Kizer
The title, Pro Femina, is Latin, meaning "for the woman." Carolyn Kizer wrote this poem for
women who have constantly been oppressed and now that they are independent, they are now not
free to speak of their oppression. There is a fear in the patriarchy that if women discuss their history
then they will demand for more change: a change that will end the patriarchal control of women's
lives.
The opening line of the poem commands people to "consider the fate of women" which is quickly
followed by the exclamation "How unwomanly to discuss it!" Kizer is addressing the oppression
that women have faced and their lack of ability to discuss it because of the fragile patriarchy. Kizer's
main goal with the introduction is to bring attention to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The narrator believes that women are entitled to the same rights that men take for
Damken 2 granted yet when women "howl for free will", they are scorned and disregarded. Men
have traditionally argued for their rights peacefully because when they do so they are heard. Women
have been disregarded for centuries and even now that women have independence; they are still
scorned by this history.
In part two of the poem, Kizer argues that women are "independent but maimed". Women are born
into a man's world. The traditional tasks of a woman are meant to bolster a man. These tasks include
taking care of children who will go on to represent the father, sewing so the man always looks his
best, or even making herself look good to represent the man. Kizer describes women as "freed in
fact, not in custom," but they can begin to change the customs and lead the world in a new direction.
As mothers, they have developed respect for life and place life above abstractions such as "national
honor." If women are allowed to speak out and to be more than simply wives and mothers, they can
teach the world about their experiences and show what they have to

Analysis Of Much Ado About Nothing
Adapting a William Shakespeare play can prove to be a challenge, as so many have done so, making
it difficult to stand apart. Accordingly, Plymouth State University added a modern twist to the play
Much Ado About Nothing, and, despite certain missteps, I considered it successful. Furthermore,
director Jessie Chapman not only changed the time period to a post–World War I setting, but
included modern music as well. Accordingly, the costumes were changed to fit the era, including the
soldiers' uniforms. Despite consisting of one location, the set design was convincing, and the actors
used it efficiently. Speaking of which, the majority of the cast lived up to the characters they
portrayed, with several standouts. The lighting design had its own intricacies, with the color of the
background light changing based on the time of day or when certain characters appear. The sound
only played a role when the background music played, of which I question the choices for music.
Although the play plodded during certain scenes, other scenes, like that of Benedick and Beatrice
eavesdropping on conversations, never ceased to entertain. Ultimately, the play served as a worthy
adaptation of Shakespeare's classic story.
In Much Ado About Nothing, Don Pedro and his company returns from the First World War as a
guest of Leanata, the governor of Messina, Italy. The don's army emerged victorious over his
traitorous half–brother Don John, who accompanies Pedro and his men. Upon their

Poetry Project
Introduction
These poems are all written based off of my, Miciah's, opinions. I have a distinct perspective on
religion, therefore I chose to write a poem describing hate and love and how I thing religion is a
dumb idea. My poem is titled "Hate and Love", based off of the poem "Fire and Ice" by Robert
Frost. In it I concur to what religion claims, symbolically saying that religion is wrong and not
serious. I used the same exact syllables and rhyme scheme as "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost. "Pie"
is simply an original poem by me. It has no significant meaning what–so–ever. I also have a sense of
humor therefore I wrote poems that are humorous yet meaningful if the reader decides to read
deeper into the meaning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I used the imagery, pattern and rhyming in a similar manor to William Blake's poem "Tyger".
"Poetry" is simply about how I am not meant to be a poet. It has a similar subject as "How Poetry
Comes to Me" by Gary Snyder in the sense that they both are relating poetry and themselves to
create a poem. Under my bed is another haiku that doesn't have a deep meaning but is based off of
Matsuo Basho's "Under Cherry Trees". Basho's haiku talks about under a cherry tree whereas my
poem is more humorous, and is about the underside of my bed.

Poetry Analysis
Whatever my life takes me, poetry will always be in my heart. It proceeds yourself to a completely
different world and supply you an opportunity to understand about yourself. I had the opportunity to
be introduced to poetry in my literary themes class and I did not understand what it was talking
about. As I consistently read my assigned poetry book The Gift of Tongues, I could resemble my life
in these poetries. Out of all the poetries that I read, ten of these poems stood out to me about life.
Although all of these poems resembles about life, you can look at these poems as different aspects
about life. The reason why I chose these poems is that they each resembles about life being a circle
of obstacles that you will face. When these life obstacles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Accuser written by Shirley Kaufman resembles a scene from an attack. Shirley talks about her
being the victim and how it affected her after the attack. Overall, this poetry took me back to the
incidents of being the injured victim to the Paris attack that occurred. From the beginning,
According to the news and videos about the attack, reporters were explaining that they were victims
that were injured critically were attempting to achieve support and the paramedics could not save
them due to the fact they were other people that were brutally injured. At the same time I feel
empathy for me and the people that were victimized by being severely injured or deceased from that
attack as life goes on they will be experiencing life in a different way than other people. On the
other hand, this also teaches people that as much as you can attempt to stop these instances, these
situations will still journey on due to the fact you cannot stop the entire world to do

Nike : A Brand Of Footwear, Clothing, And Sporting Equipment
Good morning/afternoon Year 9 Geography and Mrs. Fairfax. Today myself and Brooke are going to
be talking to you about the popular brand of footwear, Nike shoes. Nike is a popular active and
footwear brand that is owned by the CEO, Phillip Knight. Founded in 1964, the company has
become extremely popular in creating exclusive footwear, clothing, and sporting equipment. We
chose to research this topic as Nike is very well known brand and we were curious as to what
happens behind the scenes. As Nike footwear is so popular we feel as though we need to understand
and know how the shoes are made, including the worker's conditions, and the sustainability of the
company and materials used.
Nike is known for its slogan, "Just Do It.", and for many years has had a set demographic. This
demographic is for athletes, especially competitive athletes who want to be the best and always on
top of the competition. Many famous athletes wear Nike shoes and often get sponsored by Nike. By
being a consumer, we take notice of these things and this draws us in into buying Nike shoes. For
example, the Brisbane Broncos, the grand final runner–ups of the NRL Premiership this year, are
sponsored by Nike. Not only do the majority of the players wear Nike football boots, but the Nike
logo is also located on the team jerseys. This is just one of the many ways Nike draws in consumers
through a wide market demographic in Australia.
Nike is one of the most popular brands of footwear in the world, Nike

Harry James Motivation

  • 1. Harry James Motivation As soon as 1939 when he had joined Harry James' music makers, a frenzy of female fans ensued. Connie Haines, a singer who began working with Harry James at the time, recalled the reaction of fans after Frank's first performance with James; "After the first show, the screaming started in the theater, and those girls came backstage. There were about twenty of them... it happened, it was real, it was not a gimmick" (Kaplan 76). The biggest height of the hysteria had to have been in October of 1944: the Paramount/Columbus Day Riot. Around 30,000 of Sinatra's fans, many of which were teenage girls nicknamed bobbysoxers, lined up for his show at the Paramount Theatre in Times Square (Doyle). The amount let in was over the safe capacity and thousands more waited outside for shows later on in the day. However, only a few hundred would leave from the previous shows causing a frenzy to ensue outside; over 400 people from the police department were stationed for the day's chaotic events (Kaplan 227). There was obviously a strong passion within Sinatra's early fan base. This could be a result of an intimate connection Frank emitted to them. Writer Francis Davis ... At this, Frank threw a glass water pitcher at Rich's head, just missing him. Rich tackled Sinatra and they were in a fist–brawl. As a result Dorsey kept Rich and sent Sinatra home for that night's show. Frank ended up hiring some Hoboken friends to punch Rich in the face a few nights later (Kaplan 118). • 6. Carolyn Kizer's Bitch: Closing the Doors on the Past Essay The poem "Bitch" by Carolyn Kizer, published in 1984, is one that truly grasps the reader's attention, beginning with the title itself. The overall tone of this poem intertwines the feelings of sadness and anger and also reveals quite a bit about the speaker's past. The speaker is referring to her inner self as the "bitch" and her hurt condition is clearly present throughout the poem. She uses words such as "bark, growling, slobbers and whimper" to drive this meaning across to the reader. It is in the speaker's own representation of her inner self as a "bitch," one that not only "bark[s] hysterically," but also may "whimper," and even "cringe". The speaker is easily inclined to remember past memories from the relationship and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In line 7 ("He isn't an enemy now") the speaker is telling herself that she should not be dwelling on the past because her ex can't hurt her anymore. The "bitch" seems to be doing fine in controlling her emotions until line 9 when her ex–lover asks her: ""How are the children? They must be growing up." An immediate change of tone occurs here. There is an internal struggle going on between her heart and her mind. The speaker's mind is telling her to be polite to her ex, forget the past and move on. The bitch's heart, on the other hand, is keeping her from moving on and causing her to struggle with feelings of desire. This is clear, for example, in lines 10–13: "At a kind word from him... Down, girl! Keep your distance." The speaker knows that if she accidentally gets to close to this ex– lover by having feelings again, she will only end up getting hurt. Kind words and gestures can often be deceiving and I have learned that unfortunately charming people are dangerous. I have been hurt numerous times by such personalities by only looking at their kind side and ignoring other flaws. The bitch is warning herself to not get caught up in this trap of feelings again. Quite a bit of information about the past is exposed in (lines 17–21): "... She is basically loyal... Until he was ready to play." This means that the speaker was always loyal and kind to her lover, but he was bored with her and still thought that she was not good enough. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a natural response, triggered when someone feels hurt or mistreated. However, it is not just a clear–cut emotion that consists of one general feeling that is the same for everyone. The levels of anger that a person feels may not always be identical and there are varying degrees of responses that someone can express when they are experiencing this sentiment. How often a person gets angry, how intensely they feel this emotion, and how long it lasts varies for every individual. This results in a range of intensity of the anger that they express. Moreover, how a person decides to handle this emotional signal can be a decisive factor as to any consequential effects that may occur. Some forms of expression are perfectly healthy and normal for a person to exhibit, meanwhile others pose more serious problems. When it is "well managed, anger has very few detrimental health or interpersonal consequences" (Mills, 2005). Nevertheless, when someone demonstrates hostility they "not only increase [their] risk for an early death, but also risk social isolation, which itself is a major risk factor for serious illness and death" (Mills, 2005). The poems "A Poison Tree," "Bitch," and "Daddy" all demonstrate an expression of a distinctive quality of anger. Literary Interpretation In Kich By Carolyn Kizer's Bitch Carolyn Kizer's "Bitch" is describing the unnamed woman's feelings towards an ex–lover from an unspecified time in the past, which she has just encountered. The woman was extremely hurt by the ex and has a lot of anger deep inside towards this person, but does not want to demonstrate it. The main image is the speaker and the ex–lover running into one another and catching up. "Now, when he and I meet, after all these years, I say to the bitch in me, don't start growling." (Kizer 1,2). The tone of the poem is angry, sad, and reflects a relationship where she was hurt and misses the other person. The woman tries to control her inner feelings when she encounters the man, concealing her true feelings with polite conversation. Just by the tone of her inner feelings, you can see the woman thinks the man from her past caused her harm. The woman of Carolyn Kizer's "Bitch" provides a satiric interpretation of a typical meeting between her and an ex– lover since the end of their relationship. In a single, thirty–four–line stanza, the woman participates in a witty monologue that displays a ideally ironic division: the woman's two coinciding but opposite interchanges, one entailing of the woman's external conversation with her former lover and the other of silent warnings, threats, and clarifications to her inner self, represented in the poem as a bitch. The speaker is camouflaging compelling emotions with external civility. While the hiding of true feelings is an everyday ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Summary Of Carolyn Kizer's Bitch Arguably, poetry could be considered one of the biggest mediums artists use to express themselves to an audience. Everyday, radio stations play hundreds of poems to listeners who feel direct connections to what they hear. A great poet can write a piece, while never having met it's reader, that poem will leave the reader feeling as if it were written for them. Pulitzer Prize Winner Carolyn Kizer, wrote poems that connected with millions of women during the 1960's, 70's and 80's. During a time, when women were not to be taken seriously, she was considered one of the first feminists and spread her messages to readers from all walks of life. One piece Kizer wrote late in her career entitled, 'Bitch', describes a person's feelings towards an ex–lover as they run into each other years later. If Kizer was attempting to give readers a deeper understanding on the inner struggles that a female faces during her interpersonal relationship with a former partner, then I think she has succeeded. (Kizer 5) I think these two lines are spot on because when one runs into an ex years later internal instinct will have them relive moments in the past and why it didn't work or what left them hurt. The nature of a dog is to be man's best friend. Within Kizer's expression of the speaker's animalistic pain lies the foundational trait of unrequited love: the ability to forgive flaws for the hope of reciprocation by the beloved. A quick glimpse of "a look like the old days" (10) removes the alarm felt initially with a simple desire "to snuggle up to him, to cringe" (12). This transition demonstrates that her love was genuine because she still holds the desire to forgive him for his transgression. The only thing holding her back is the strict image of her rationality knowing to "drag [these feelings] off by the scruff" (33) because he will never love her back. Indeed, there is nothing more fitting to describe her pain forever watching for a sign that their love can be mutual, like a dutiful sheephound scouting the horizon for the return of its master and the praise of a job well done. The naivety of this pet drives its endless search. A dog knows not of the harshness of rejection, and this fact of life gives purpose to the speaker's expression of unrequited love. The heart cannot learn because of its nature to forgive. Poetry is defined as "a literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm"(Oxford). Poetry can be written about anything, and there are many different types of poetry. A few examples of different types of poetry are spoken word, free verse, and sonnets. Each of these types of poems have certain qualities and characteristics that make them unique. The two poems entitled "Bitch" by Carolyn Kizer and "Men at Forty" by Donald Justice each have unique qualities and characteristics about them, but they also have a few things in common such as gender, and the use of metaphors and similes. Another example of comparing the character to a dog is when she writes "she begins to whimper"(Kizer 15). Overall, her poem is a long metaphor because she never describes herself as a normal human. By combining a multitude of studies and methodologies, authors explore the aspects of the environment and nature along with human interaction to understand how they commingle, affecting one another. In the following four books, scholars from varying backgrounds approach environmental history in a variety of ways in order to prove their thesis. Their methodologies form their thought process and lead to the structure of these books. As a proud citizen of this great nation I, unfortunately, have to say "yes." Our once outstanding country has been falling behind in a number of areas including technology, education, economics, and yes, even in family care! America is now one of only three industrialized countries that hasn't set up a nationwide policy for paid parental leave. With this knowledge I desired to know more, particularly if we as a nation are not doing much to rectify the situation. Then, to learn if any states were doing something about this issue which effects so many people in the workforce. I wanted to see exactly how far behind, compared to the rest world, we are in the issue of paid parental leave. The Pew Research Center conducted a study of government supported leave in 38 OECD countries, and found that the US had the lowest figures with zero weeks of paid leave. Though we did fare better when it came to the number of weeks provided for protected leave with 12 weeks. We were still far worse than most other OECD countries (see Figure 1 at right). Knowing that we were rated worse I wanted to know what people are saying that we can and should be doing to change this situation? How Is Hate Different From Each Other Humans have always been able to express a variety of emotions, whether its happiness, sadness, empathy, etc. Yet, one of the most complicated feelings we are capable of expressing is hatred. The reason why is because there are so many different levels of hate that one can go through, depending on the relationship that they have with that person and why they are angry. For instance, the hate that one feels for a stranger is very different from the hate they feel toward someone they know or care about. This is depicted in William Blake's "A Poison Tree" and Carolyn Kizer's "Bitch", where one of the poems portrays the difference between the feelings of hatred one has for a close friend compared to that of a foe, and the other describes the hate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason, when one is angry with a friend, and they confess, it automatically melts into love and friendship. However, when one is angry with an enemy, they bury their anger as it continues to grow, because it is never expressed. According to "A Poison Tree," when one buries their anger rather than acknowledging it, that anger turns into a seed that will eventually sprout into hatred. The seed is then nourished by the negativity of the angry person, allowing their wrath to flourish into a mighty force or "tree" that could potentially destroy both parties. It is implied by the title that the tree is poison, telling the reader that by ignoring or suppressing their anger, they are also poisoned. As a result, the tree "...grew day and night [until] it bore an apple bright," hinting at some of the destructive consequences that can result when one cultivates their anger (9–10). For instance, the foreboding tone of the final line; is the speaker's delight at the "foe outstretched beneath the tree," which offers a warning about what can happen when one suppresses their anger (16). • 42. Terry Teachout's Taking Sinatra Seriously Surprisingly, despite his mentality of seeing himself as the next great singer, Frank had some trouble singing at first. In his article, "Taking Sinatra Seriously", Terry Teachout stated that Sinatra's voice tended to sound a bit awkward, unaware, and uncomfortable in faster–paced songs; it would take around a decade for him to reach full vocal development (55). As a result, his friend Hank Sanicola prompted Frank to take singing lessons. One of Sinatra's instructors was former Metropolitan Opera singer, John Quinlan. Quinlan had him do vocal exercises as well as pronunciation work: attempting to eliminate his Hoboken accent from songs. Fortunately, these lessons did work to Frank's overall advantage; he felt much more confident with his singing, despite his old friends mocking him for sounding so proper (Kaplan 53). Furthermore, while working early in his career with band–leader and skilled trombone player Tommy Dorsey, Frank attempted to pick up more skills from this master of breath control. "I used to watch Tommy's back, his jacket, to see when he would breathe", Sinatra later admitted (Kaplan 105). Naturally, Frank worked to improve his lung capacity: he did so apparently by swimming in pools for hours, holding his breath underwater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At that point, I'm trying to understand the point of view of the person behind the words. I want to understand his emotions. Then I start speaking, not singing, the words so I can get the right inflections. When I get with the orchestra, I sing the words without a microphone at first, so I can adjust the way I've been practicing the arrangement. I'm looking to fit the emotion behind the song that I've come up with to the music. Then it all comes together. You sing the song. If the take is good, you're done" (Kaplan 108). This was the genius that Sinatra possessed even in the lowest part of his career, even during recording sessions for records that would barely sell at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Poem Pro Femina By Carolyn Kizer The title, Pro Femina, is Latin, meaning "for the woman." Carolyn Kizer wrote this poem for women who have constantly been oppressed and now that they are independent, they are now not free to speak of their oppression. There is a fear in the patriarchy that if women discuss their history then they will demand for more change: a change that will end the patriarchal control of women's lives. The opening line of the poem commands people to "consider the fate of women" which is quickly followed by the exclamation "How unwomanly to discuss it!" Kizer is addressing the oppression that women have faced and their lack of ability to discuss it because of the fragile patriarchy. Kizer's main goal with the introduction is to bring attention to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator believes that women are entitled to the same rights that men take for Damken 2 granted yet when women "howl for free will", they are scorned and disregarded. Men have traditionally argued for their rights peacefully because when they do so they are heard. Women have been disregarded for centuries and even now that women have independence; they are still scorned by this history. In part two of the poem, Kizer argues that women are "independent but maimed". Women are born into a man's world. The traditional tasks of a woman are meant to bolster a man. These tasks include taking care of children who will go on to represent the father, sewing so the man always looks his best, or even making herself look good to represent the man. Kizer describes women as "freed in fact, not in custom," but they can begin to change the customs and lead the world in a new direction. As mothers, they have developed respect for life and place life above abstractions such as "national honor." If women are allowed to speak out and to be more than simply wives and mothers, they can teach the world about their experiences and show what they have to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Analysis Of Much Ado About Nothing Adapting a William Shakespeare play can prove to be a challenge, as so many have done so, making it difficult to stand apart. Accordingly, Plymouth State University added a modern twist to the play Much Ado About Nothing, and, despite certain missteps, I considered it successful. Furthermore, director Jessie Chapman not only changed the time period to a post–World War I setting, but included modern music as well. Accordingly, the costumes were changed to fit the era, including the soldiers' uniforms. Despite consisting of one location, the set design was convincing, and the actors used it efficiently. Speaking of which, the majority of the cast lived up to the characters they portrayed, with several standouts. The lighting design had its own intricacies, with the color of the background light changing based on the time of day or when certain characters appear. The sound only played a role when the background music played, of which I question the choices for music. Although the play plodded during certain scenes, other scenes, like that of Benedick and Beatrice eavesdropping on conversations, never ceased to entertain. Ultimately, the play served as a worthy adaptation of Shakespeare's classic story. In Much Ado About Nothing, Don Pedro and his company returns from the First World War as a guest of Leanata, the governor of Messina, Italy. The don's army emerged victorious over his traitorous half–brother Don John, who accompanies Pedro and his men. Upon their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Poetry Project Poetry Project Introduction These poems are all written based off of my, Miciah's, opinions. I have a distinct perspective on religion, therefore I chose to write a poem describing hate and love and how I thing religion is a dumb idea. My poem is titled "Hate and Love", based off of the poem "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost. In it I concur to what religion claims, symbolically saying that religion is wrong and not serious. I used the same exact syllables and rhyme scheme as "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost. "Pie" is simply an original poem by me. It has no significant meaning what–so–ever. I also have a sense of humor therefore I wrote poems that are humorous yet meaningful if the reader decides to read deeper into the meaning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I used the imagery, pattern and rhyming in a similar manor to William Blake's poem "Tyger". "Poetry" is simply about how I am not meant to be a poet. It has a similar subject as "How Poetry Comes to Me" by Gary Snyder in the sense that they both are relating poetry and themselves to create a poem. Under my bed is another haiku that doesn't have a deep meaning but is based off of Matsuo Basho's "Under Cherry Trees". Basho's haiku talks about under a cherry tree whereas my poem is more humorous, and is about the underside of my bed. Clothes Clothes are debatably the smartest things ever made They keep your junk from being displayed But not only that, They are good resting grounds for your domestic cat Clothes are clothes and will never change Unless you and a friend decide to exchange My Name Is Who am I, you ask? • 51. Poetry Analysis Whatever my life takes me, poetry will always be in my heart. It proceeds yourself to a completely different world and supply you an opportunity to understand about yourself. I had the opportunity to be introduced to poetry in my literary themes class and I did not understand what it was talking about. As I consistently read my assigned poetry book The Gift of Tongues, I could resemble my life in these poetries. Out of all the poetries that I read, ten of these poems stood out to me about life. Although all of these poems resembles about life, you can look at these poems as different aspects about life. The reason why I chose these poems is that they each resembles about life being a circle of obstacles that you will face. When these life obstacles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Accuser written by Shirley Kaufman resembles a scene from an attack. Shirley talks about her being the victim and how it affected her after the attack. Overall, this poetry took me back to the incidents of being the injured victim to the Paris attack that occurred. From the beginning, According to the news and videos about the attack, reporters were explaining that they were victims that were injured critically were attempting to achieve support and the paramedics could not save them due to the fact they were other people that were brutally injured. At the same time I feel empathy for me and the people that were victimized by being severely injured or deceased from that attack as life goes on they will be experiencing life in a different way than other people. On the other hand, this also teaches people that as much as you can attempt to stop these instances, these situations will still journey on due to the fact you cannot stop the entire world to do ... • 53. Nike : A Brand Of Footwear, Clothing, And Sporting Equipment Good morning/afternoon Year 9 Geography and Mrs. Fairfax. Today myself and Brooke are going to be talking to you about the popular brand of footwear, Nike shoes. Nike is a popular active and footwear brand that is owned by the CEO, Phillip Knight. Founded in 1964, the company has become extremely popular in creating exclusive footwear, clothing, and sporting equipment. We chose to research this topic as Nike is very well known brand and we were curious as to what happens behind the scenes. As Nike footwear is so popular we feel as though we need to understand and know how the shoes are made, including the worker's conditions, and the sustainability of the company and materials used. Nike is known for its slogan, "Just Do It.", and for many years has had a set demographic. This demographic is for athletes, especially competitive athletes who want to be the best and always on top of the competition. Many famous athletes wear Nike shoes and often get sponsored by Nike. By being a consumer, we take notice of these things and this draws us in into buying Nike shoes. For example, the Brisbane Broncos, the grand final runner–ups of the NRL Premiership this year, are sponsored by Nike. Not only do the majority of the players wear Nike football boots, but the Nike logo is also located on the team jerseys. This is just one of the many ways Nike draws in consumers through a wide market demographic in Australia. Nike is one of the most popular brands of footwear in the world, Nike ...
