Research Paper On Mama Mia
Mamma Mia
Movies about romance are very common, but a movie about romance with a musical format seems
to never go out of style. From the timeless classic Grease, to the recent award–winning film La La
Land, romantic musicals continue to captivate their audience. To create an impactful romantic
musical movie you need a detailed plot, catchy soundtrack, and a talented cast. Without these
elements, it leaves the movie distasteful and boring. Mamma Mia the movie directed by Phyllida
Lloyd stands out among other romantic musicals.
Mamma Mia is set on the Greek island of Kalokairi, as people are arriving for the wedding of

From "Dancing Queen" to "Waterloo" this movie is packed full of top hits by Swedish pop group
ABBA. The plot of Mamma Mia was moved around to accommodate ABBA's music rather than to

age groups, creating a larger audience. "Slipping Through My Fingers" plays with your heartstrings
as it tells the story of a mother's love for her daughter. "Dancing Queen" makes you want to get up
and dance along. The soundtrack keeps the plot from becoming boring, with a musical performance

Jamie Fristom's Energy Hook
Energy Hook is a game that can challenge you, engage you, and promises a lot of parkour
excitement. In Energy Hook, you play as a female who has energy powers that grant her an energy
hook and a jetpack. Jamie Fristom, – creator of the incredible swinging system in Spider–Man 2, is
the person behind this game. I think we can all agree that the swinging freedom of Spider–Man 2
has never really been utilized since, even in Spider–Man games, which is why Jamie created Energy
Hook. In this game, instead of fighting super villains and wearing spandex, you are to master the
swinging mechanic and compete in speed runs, trick modes, swinging challenges, and reach
objectives. However, what the game perfects is also its downfall. The learning curve

The Hours Research Paper
Immortality in The Hours Novels and films each have their own strengths when telling a story.
While books can characterize a character by providing their inner thoughts and intimately describe
each detail of the setting, films can clearly portray a scene and add aesthetics such as music and
color. In 2002, Stephen Daldry adapted the 1998 novel The Hours by Michael Cunningham into a
movie also titled The Hours. The story has the same themes and plot elements; however, the director
takes some creative license in order to add music, change dialogue, and adjust the details to create
his vision of Cunningham's work. Specifically, Daldry changes the way the audience sees Clarissa's
fear of morality when she questions her accomplishments on the ... Show more content on

It has Richard moving about, exposing his apartment to light. He tells Clarissa that he still "has to
face the hours," but he is done with the pain and sorrow and staying alive for her. He wants his final
moments to be about remembering their youth and what he considers most beautiful thing–an
ordinary morning with her. His subsequent fall out the window deeply saddens her. However, this
scene rings true to the words of Virginia Wolfe earlier in the film when she said, "Someone has to
die in order that the rest of us should value life more." It is after coming to terms with his death,
Clarissa looks at her life and sees that happiness that her hours have contained. Subsequently, she

Compare And Contrast Meryl Streep And Alvin Ailey
Everyone has a role model. The two people I admire are Meryl Streep and Alvin Ailey. They both
show to me how to work hard, take the time to perfect your craft, and to follow your dreams. The
performing arts business can be tricky because there is a great deal of competition. However, Meryl
Streep and Alvin Ailey never stopped trying and made great accomplishments in their fields. Meryl
Streep has gone far beyond perfecting her craft. She is an American actress who has been said to be
the greatest actress of her generation. One sign of great actress is the ability to play different roles.
She has played both dramatic roles, such as in Sophie's Choice and comedic roles such as in
Mamma Mia!. I personally enjoy her dramatic roles the best. She

The Fashion Industry In The Devil Wears Prada
It can be said that the Fashion industry is not for everyone, especially Anne Hathaway's character in
the 2006 Film The Devil Wears Prada. The fashion industry is one of the hardest business to work in
and this film shows it. The fashion Industry takes a lot of time, money, dedication, and uses lots of
resources that Anne Hathaway's role, Andy Sachs learns quickly. As coming out of Northwestern
College as a journalist she lands a job with the magazine "Runway" as their junior Assistant for the
head editor and chef Miranda Priestly, who is played by the wonderful Meryl Streep. Miranda could
be described as strict, stern, demanding, and a overall perfectionist. However, by the end of dealing
with Mirandas demands for a year Andy can only hope she will score a job as a reporter or writer
else where, so the question is will she do it? When Andy begins her job as the junior assistant you
can definitely see that she struggles a lot. Andy walking in had no sense of style, had no knowledge
of what "Runway" Magazine was, and also had no idea that many people had wanted her position at
this company. In fact the first day that Andy arrives at "runway" magazines home office she is
absolutely appalled. Emily Charlton, Miranda's Senior assistant was supposed to interview Andy,
but unfortunately as soon as Andy and Emily sat down to chat the phone had rang. It was Mirandas
driver stating that they were outside and to prepare. With the look of madness in Emily's eyes you

The Book Thief: Character Analysis
If I were to choose a character to be my best friend, I would choose Rudy Steiner. First, he clearly
doesn't care what other people may think of him, as evidenced in the Jesse Owens incident. He
knew he would be made fun of, but he wanted to honor Jesse Owens, so he did it. His determination
and loyalty are also shown in many instances. In Hitler Youth, he was constantly knocked down for
defending his friend Tommy, but always stood back up. Even after facing rejection from Liesel, he
stayed by her. That is admirable, because most boys wouldn't stay friends with a girl who turned
them down. Rudy always did whatever he thought would make Liesel happy in the end, and I would
love to have that trait in a friend. A character I despise is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I would recommend this book to anyone. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me think
about myself, my words, and how they affect the world around me in a way I hadn't considered
before. It was profound in an almost nonchalant manor. If you aren't thinking the whole time you
read, you can miss the meaning of many important sections. I also loved the way this book brought
reality to the fact that there isn't always a happy ending. In an ideal world, Liesel could've grown up
to work in a library with her husband Rudy, and they would visit Hans and Rosa for dinner every
weekend, but thinks don't work out like that in real life, and I really enjoyed that aspect of the book.
The one complaint I have is that the book started out kind of slow. If I was writing the book, I
would've spent less time focused on Liesel acclimating to life in a new home, and dealing with her
brother's death. I know that her thoughts in that time were key in shaping the person she became
later, but there is only so many nightmares and cigarette rolling that a person can read about before
it gets boring. For the first 200 pages or so, reading felt like wading through a swamp, but after that,

Conflict and Social Order Theory
Social OrderAccording to the social order model, society is given a set of rules to regulate people
behaviors and prevent anomie or "normlessness." Society serves the interests of all sharing, a strong
set of norms and values, though not being able to adhere to these cause people to feel out of place.
Most people accept this hierarchy as long as they see the system is fair. However, it is not fair, and
this in turn becomes visible when it comes to occupations. Young people do not apply to specific
jobs because they assume their qualifications are not well–built enough to obtain certain positions
and therefore are exploited and oppressed in the workforce.
Conflict TheoryThe conflict models expresses that people are constantly competing and ... Show

Meryl Streep proved this by telling Anne Hathaway that reason she chose her sweater is because
society, in this case the world of fashion, claims that the fashion and colour of the sweater is the "in"
style. Meryl demonstrated that Anne chose a sweater without putting much thought into it, but in
fact here thoughts were already shaped for her by what society had previously claimed to be the "in"
style. Anne did not realize that the act of something as simple as choosing a sweater, because she
liked the look or colour, was determined by previous causes that are external from her. This shows
peoples actions are highly predictable and that human behaviors are the result of social causes and
not of "free will."October 29, 2007How does a skeptical read of the article reveal contradictions and

Student Engagement and the Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium, it is reasonable to say
that the results are unreliable. For one, the answers of the students are not facts but opinions. A

The Pros And Cons Of Donald Trump
Just a few days ago, Meryl Streep gave an acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. During this
speech, she was ranting on about how Donald Trump should not have won the 2016 presidential
election, and how she felt that he was somewhat responsible for all of the hate and disrespect that
our country currently has. Streep was instantaneously accused by Trump's supporters of being
wrong, of cluelessness, and of bad timing. She was simply speaking her mind to us. So does that
mean that only politicians can say that they hate Donald Trump? Celebrities are allowed to talk
about politics just as much as anyone else. Are celebrities only supposed to talk about their career?
That would mean that politicians are only allowed to talk about politics. Video

The Devil Wears Prada Analysis
The Devil Wears Prada is all about fashion which plays a big role in communication. Verbal ways of
communication most likely come to the mind of others, not fashion but they do relate. The term
communication can have multiple meanings such as art and music which leads our bodies to
represent the message.
There was one main goal in this movie which was to be the essential assistant to Meryl Streep. As
the movie starts, we see that two women are competing for the job title as there can only be one in
the end which results in Interpersonal conflicts. As Andy was new, Anne was not so she therefore
did the job better than Anne but not for long before Andy steals the show. We see each one of these
girls shows a bit of resentment towards the other since they are in competition for the assistant
position. The movie, The Devil Wears Prada is obviously based around women. While watching the
film, it is easy to pick out that the main characters are women. Although there are a few male
characters such as Anne's boyfriend, Anne's dad, a male co–worker Nigel, Meryl's Boss, and
Miranda's husband. The plot focuses a lot on Anne and her boyfriend but as well as the other men,
they do however have pretty important roles. The women in the film are not afraid to use their
power in the workplace and are dominantly viewed as having a strong work. As Andy starts to work
for Miranda and is trying to become her assistant after just graduating from college and moving to
New York, you can tell that

The Devil Wears Prada Analysis
Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is making their
presence intimidating, even if they haven't said anything? This situation would be primarily due to
their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of
communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal
cues can be seen in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada."
An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as
Meryl Streep's aka Miranda Priestly's aka the devil's assistant. She has to deal with the devils
difficult demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and
seemingly loses, herself she must decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda.
This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow down. In the
end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the movie: Influencing others/body
movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and managing impressions
Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness– How we look, act, and sound to others
After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and changes her
hair/makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and comfortable with her job she gets
more confidence in her body movements. One particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie,
Andy walks into the office very confidently and

The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay
The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia,
mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the
themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to achieve
similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While the original
movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did changed the
location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the threat of
communism was at the forefront of everyone's thoughts. However, during 2004, only three years

The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials to
stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a stark
contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are also used
to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor's husband, Senator
Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in the state
department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused communists during the
red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and political movements to
get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her husband present the fake
number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of a mother is also satirized in
the film. The 1950's portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome, however Eleanor is portrayed as the
evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on keeping the audience and Major
Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the original movie, the audience is shown,
as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured and brainwashed by communists.
Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the

The Giver Essay Topics
The Giver seems to begin as another adaption of the all too common heroic teenage films that
seemed to follow the booming success of The Hunger Games with Katniss' heroic volunteer and
Tris' dauntless traits in Divergent all destined to save their dystopian societies. Ironic as this novel
was written in 1993, long before Suzanne Collins put pen to paper, however as you pan across the
beginning of the black and white film it appears as a Utopia. Featuring the likes of Meryl Streep and
Jeff Bridges the story follows Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), who lives in a society that has been
stripped of all emotion and memories of any such life and are controlled by a higher power. Jonas,

emotionally exhausting concepts such as death and pain he falls a little flat. Nevertheless Jeff
Bridges is perfect in the role of 'the giver', judging on his voice alone he provides the emotion that
Thwaite lacks. He spends the film acting through demanding scenes, one of which is teaching the
concept of love to Jonas and showing him what it means to be human; he does this brilliantly
providing huge parts of the emotion needed where Thwaites fell flat. With many other high profile
names throughout the film, such as Katie Holmes, Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift, the film definitely
had the people power to boost success. However Swift seemed out of place in the realm of big
screen actors; her appearance was dull and seemed to distract as a too obvious human 'product

Lively Theatre Research Paper
Lively Theatre Lively theatre is a live production that never stops. Lively theatre can happen
anywhere. Lively theatre can be displayed when you're having a conversation with friends or even
when you're speaking to your teacher. Lively theatre can make you think, be vulnerable, and can
bring out emotions that you did not realize you had or was felt about a particular subject. Just like in
a production , lively theatre has a plot , lighting, costumes, makeup and many other aspects. There is
always a stage around us whether it is the classroom, house, in your car, and many other places. Our
conversations and dialogue can be categorized as a specific type of genre. A conversation could
make someone possibly laugh, cry, empathize so, just like actors and actresses , we can affect
someone's mood in a instance.
For example, Meryl Streep's Golden Globe acceptance speech is a wonderful example of lively
theatre. Meryl Streep acceptance speech moved people in many ways. She was the actress of this
production of lively theatre, and she had a set which was the stage of the Golden Globes. Her

Influence Of Hollywood Films
Hollywood Films Influence on Fashion.
During the 1920s and 1930s period, the increase in demand of Hollywood movies and screen idols
became widespread. Popular trends in fashion became no longer influenced only by Paris–based
fashion houses. The hairstyles and clothes worn by glamorous film stars, both on and off the screen,
became noticed by American and European moviegoers and created numerous fashion fads. Fashion
trends in movies were immediately duplicated by retailers. Magazines issued clothing patterns
influenced by film costumes, enabling women to sew together their own Hollywood inspired style
frocks. The era's most copied pattern was a dress worn by Vivien Leigh (1913–1967) in a picnic
scene in Gone with the Wind (1939), one of the era's most popular and publicized movies. By the
60's, 70's and 80's fashion and film still practically went hand in hand, but the 90's and early 00's

'Pretty Woman' is all about the woman being saved by the male who just happens to be an elite

Edward's culture and even trying to dress properly. 'The Devil Wears Prada' depicts a business
woman and portrays women in complete power of love, career and friendship. This is a huge
contrast in comparison to 'Pretty Woman'. We are rarely introduced to main male characters in the
film who share the same amount of power as women. Fashion in both films clash to some extent.
Vivian's knee high boots which we see her wearing in the beginning of the film was hugely frowned
upon, whereas, in 'TDWP' we see Andy (pictured above) showcasing her new black velvet knee
high boots. I think both films had and still have an immense influence on fashion. In my opinion, I
prefer the transformation of Vivian, it's unanticipated and unpredictable but nevertheless, both films

Annie Leibovitz, a famous portrait photographer, is one of America's best. Her photographs have

Finally after some convincing, and an agreement that she would be a mime, Streep came around to
the idea. The shoot ended up by giving her more confidence in herself and in her field of work. The
arms pulling at her face, symbolises the real Meryl Streep as she is taking her mask away. The
mime–type makeup acts as a facade and symbolises Meryl's acting career and embodies her diverse
and versatile personality she has as an actress. It also represents her fame, which masks her inner
self and private despair. It makes the viewer focus on her eyes and shows a great deal of emphasis
on her face. The visual metaphor, represented by the arms that are morphing and pulling on Streep's
face, represent how Streep felt at the time with all the fame and pressure. She felt out of control of
who she was, and had to constantly and quickly adapt to all the different roles she played as an
actress. By conveying this message, it allows the audience to have a connection with the real person
behind the mask. It is as if we are in cahoots with Streep, even if it is for just a moment.
After this, Annie Leibovitz started to become more and more well known. She was asked to
photograph many events and was even invited to become the concert–tour photographer for the
music band The Rolling Stones in 1975. She even photographed the British singer Joan Armatrading
for an album cover, becoming the first women to do so. It wasn't until 1980 however, when one of
her most iconic photographs was taken. It was of the famous John Lennon who was naked next to

Ricki And The Flash Movie Essay
She doesn't necessarily have to be your favorite actress, but it's terribly difficult to refute the notion
that Meryl Steep is the most talented actress on the planet– potentially even in the history of cinema.
And, as if she wasn't talented enough – apparently she sings and plays the guitar now, too.
In Ricki and the Flash, directed by Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia),
Meryl Streep stars as wannabe rock star, Ricki Rendazzo. When Ricki was younger, she chased her
dreams of becoming a musician, but lost everything else along the way – including her husband,

Katherine's Speech In Taming Of The Shrew
The ambiguity of whether Katherine's final speech is authentic, in which she apparently proclaims
and promulgates female submissiveness, has been thought to define the tone of versions of Taming
of the Shrew. However, the attitudes evoked by the monologue can also indicate values of society at
the times which the play is presented. Generally, four main theories have emerged regarding the true
intent behind Katherine's speech (Wikipedia, 2017):
It is sincere and Katherine has been successfully "tamed".
It is sincere, but because Katherine has fallen in love with Petruchio.
It is ironic and is deceiving Petruchio by "parroting a socially acceptable, totally impersonal
catalogue of honours a wife owes her husband" (De Wachter, 2016).
It is neither, following the farcical disposition of the play–within–a–play framing device.
Up until the 20th century, most of the last speeches by Katherine have adhered with the first option,
including the traditional Globe Theatre adaptation. Katherine's acting in the Globe Theatre
production, grounded in her facial expressions and tone of voice, shows sincerity and truthfulness in
her declaration (V.ii). On the basis of this portrayal, it could be said that in a historical Elizabethan
context, audiences would have accepted and deemed the domestication mechanisms and taming
practises employed by Petruchio as normal. In contrast, "in a modern Western society holding
relatively egalitarian views on gender", interpretations of Katherine's address

Research Paper On Texting Puns
One of the most recent types of puns is texting pun, challenged by a rapid development of social
networks. Alphabetic, numeric, and simplified spelling produce texting puns well. These depend on
the increasingly universal tradition of using the sound and/or spelling of alphabet letters, numbers or
symbols, or simplified spelling as a way to display or "spell" a word. Cases may be "cre8" for the
word "create", or "@mosphere" for "atmosphere". When we spot a texting pun, we immediately try
to decipher it, and if we cannot comprehend its meaning, then we quietly "sound it out" in our
heads, envisioning how it may sound, and eventually understand the joke.
New texting puns are coined and implemented in everyday speech constantly as people are way too
attached to their electronic devices, thus they search for ever more economical and practical ways to
transmit their messages. In the popular American car insurance commercial one may find "0 CRDT
CHX", which is a great example of a texting pun. To comprehend this correctly, we rationally
substitute the first symbol with the word "zero", then insert the missing vowels for the word
"credit", and imbed the missing vowel and adjust the spelling for the third arrangement of letters, to
receive the word "checks." Merged together, the slogan "Zero Credit Checks" instructs a potential
consumer that one can buy this car insurance without struggling with any credit checks. ... Show

Key Themes In The Film Kramer V. Kramer
The movie Kramer v. Kramer is about a man named Billy Kramer, who is left with his son for 18
months. After those 18 months Kramer devolves a bond with his son that he didn't have in the past
years. After those 18 months Kramer's wife comes to take the child back by filing for custody. There
are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about
men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change
America's perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should
appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on
their careers than they were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses
on women at the time. The movie Kramer v Kramer starts with Bill Kramer coming home to find
out that his wife is leaving him. Kramer's wife leaves him because he is too focused on his work and

He is sending a message to viewers about gender roles, stereotypes, and men's lack of involvement
with children, men lack of sensitivity to their wife's feeling and he is also sending a message to the
judicial system. This film is not neutral because it focuses on the perspective of the male and really
doesn't follow the female's story. If you are a man watching this movie you feel empathy for Kramer
at the end when he is about to lose his child. Women may feel differently because they can relate to
the perspective of a female more than a male. The film maker had an agenda to bring this legal issue
to the movie screen to hopefully change opinions on the issue. The issue at the time was that men
didn't have a fair chance at winning custody in a legal dispute. Years after this movie the judicial
system realized that the current system wasn't fair and made laws to eliminate the female

An individual's body image, body satisfaction, self–esteem and confidence are affected by
unrealistic, digitally altered, and stereotyped images used by the advertising and fashion industries.
In the United Sates 94% of female characters on television are thinner than the average American
woman (Yamamiya et al. 2005). By associating these images with happiness, desirability and
success and stating that women can attain thin bodies by dieting, exercising, and surgery the media
encourage female consumers to believe that they can and should be this thin (Yamamiya et al.
2005). While not all women are susceptible, exposure to images in the media of thin–and–beautiful
women can lead to body image dissatisfaction which can be accompanied by social anxiety,
depression, eating disturbances, and poor self–esteem (Yamamiya et al. 2005). According to studies,
women become more body dissatisfied after viewing thin–and–beautiful images than after viewing
average–size, oversize, or non–body images (Yamamiya et al. 2005). Due to the media's emphasis
on women's thinness and attractiveness, females in our society are more body dissatisfied than

would lose all the support also. However she won it and her goal was different: she inspired people

My Love Story
It was a rainy summer night back in 2009. The clock struck eight and my mom could hear the pitter
patter of my feet as I rushed into the living room. My tiny arms struggled to contain the bowl of
popcorn that left traces in my path. I plopped down next to her, as she turned up the volume to the
sound system. My favorite movie was back on T.V., and I couldn't have been more excited.
The screen illuminated as the film opened with the steady movement of the glistening
Mediterranean Sea carrying a boat with a young woman singing softly towards the sky. This movie
was Mamma Mia.
The next two hours left me hunched over in deep laughter and singing along to the melodious lyrics
of 70s Swedish Pop. The film was set upon a unique story of love, lost, and love refound behind the
scenery of an enchanting Greek island. The story follows a moment in the lives of an enthusiastic
young woman named Sophie and her eccentric, but loving, mother Donna. Recently engaged Sophie
is on the conquest to find the father whom she has never met, in hopes of being walked down the
aisle. She invites three likely candidates to the wedding, and they all agree to attend. Sophie may
have figured out her own problem, but she unknowingly creates more problems for her mother.
Which leads Donna to come to terms with the past that she quietly pushed away.
As a child, I was intrigued by the film's bright scenery and catchy tunes, and till this day, it has
remained one of my favorites. However, as I've gotten

Analysis Of A Streetcar Named Desire
A Streetcar Named Desire's plot thickens throughout scenes three, four, and five. The third act
begins with Stanley hosting a poker night in his very own tiny kitchen. All men were married except
one. Stella had arranged an evening out with Blanche to let the gentlemen have their own space.
When the two women returned in the late, dark hours of the night, the taking and dealing of poker
was still going on. Blanche quickly found herself making conversation with Mitch, the unmarried
man. The two were interrupted when Stanley and Stella pursue an argument over the radio being on
and he hits her. Stella and Blanche rush upstairs while the men get ahold of Stanley and quickly
collect their earnings and leave. Stella eventually returns to Stanley after many shouts of sorrow.
Blanche has tried her absolute best to explain to Stella that he is an animal and that she deserves so
much better. However, Stella is in love and knows that he was sorry when he apologized and fixed
the radio. The Fifth scene concludes as Blanche has kissed a young man right before Mitch shows
up at her doorstep with roses. Firstly, I think my choice to read this play was still a good pick
because I am loving the drama and mysteriousness of it. Each page opens up a new story and the
plot gets deeper. Blanche is still the center of attention as she constantly tries to prove Stella that she
deserves better and continuously pushes others to choke herself with compliments. It seems as
though Blanche is still

death, possible relationship breakdowns and the grief of feeling responsible for somebody's death.

Watt expresses moments of silence throughout the film to suggest the dept of emotion when a
personal tragedy strikes us and how words are sometimes useless to those who are suffering from
grief. The train driver sits at his kitchen table in silent grief, being watched by his wife. Sometimes
people turn inward when they are grieving, while those around them quietly offer/give them
support. For example when the train drivers son brings him a beer and they drink together in silence.
This scene was shot from a distance; just as Nicks front–page photo of Julia is a long–distance shot
too. The camera looks through windows and doorways at Julia as she tries to deal with the death of
Rob. The family members carefully tread around her, never entering her personal space. When the
silences during the film are broken this has more impact. At the end of the film, the only words we
hear the train driver say are 'I'm the train driver. I'm sorry.' And Julia replies: 'It wasn't your fault'.
Julia smiles for the first time in the film as the driver and his son leave, which adds to the positive
mood at the end of the film, once again suggesting that positive interactions with others can help us
to deal with our personal tragedies.
Watt doesn't show very much of Joan throughout the film, but from the scenes she stars in we learn
she doesn't dwell on the past. Joan makes the most of

Narrative Essay About Going To The Beach
Mia was so glad that school was over, she didn't have any teacher nagging her to do her work or to
do her homework and best of all she didn't have to wake up early in the morning. One of the things
Mia loves to do over summer vacation is going to the beach with her family, and that's what she's
doing today. As the car went to a steady halt beside the most marvelous beach in the world without a
doubt, she took off her seat belt and ran out the car, a cool breeze hit her face as if she had been hit
with snow." Beach here I come !'' Mia yelled excitedly, the beach was nice and quiet and the sunset
was just about to come up. The sand was a nice golden brown color just how she liked her hash
browns, speaking of hash browns Mia was starving, she could eat a whole horse she hadn't eaten
anything that morning. Mia wrapped up her breakfast and went swimming, her mother told her to
wait at least half an hour but she went anyway she didn't believe it that type of things they're
obviously not legitimate . As she went into the water she felt as if her body was being filled up with
ice cold water. As soon as she got into the water she felt as if something was slipping down her
finger but she didn't pay any attention to it until she saw it floating on the water. She went to go pick
it up but when she looked up she saw a wave as big as one hundred school buses on top of each
other. Mia tried to go fast but every time she tried to go faster it seemed that she was going slower

Rhetorical Analysis Of Meryl Streep
Timeless actress and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Meryl Streep, in her Cecil B.
DeMille Award acceptance speech during the Golden Globe Awards, condemns President Donald
Trump's mockery of a disabled reporter. Streep's purpose is to galvanize the prestigious audience
into using their platforms to coalesce the nation and call out injustice. She adopts a humble tone in
order to establish herself as an equal among her fellow actors all the while creating a sense of unity
in her audience of renowned Hollywood stars. Streep, before mentioning Trump, gains the trust of
her audience by uniting them with meaningful pathos. "...You and all of us in this room really
belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now," (Streep, para.2). By using the
words "you", "us", and "belong", she links every actor, from the bit parts to the leading roles. Streep
further unites her audience throughout her speech, but introducing the concept early on enhances its
importance to her. Before she asks her audience to use their platforms to do good, Streep further
elevates each actor in the room, regardless of their merit, to be on the same level of
distinguishability. "But who are we, and what is Hollywood anyway? It's just a bunch of people
from other places," (Streep, para.3). This statement is common knowledge, but she elaborates as she
goes on to describe the birthplaces of various Hollywood stars. From Ohio to Jerusalem, South
Carolina to Ethiopia, Streep utilizes logos by listing off different homelands to prove that even A–
list celebrities come from hometowns just as modest as up–and–coming starlets. By doing so, her
audience members feel as equally respected as award winning actress Streep which makes them feel
equally as capable to bring about change. Streep does not actually mention Trump until the second
half of her speech in order to first gain the trust of her audience. While speaking about Trump, she
uses anaphora to discuss power. "Someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to
fight back," and, "And this instinct to humiliate, when it's modeled by someone in a public platform,
by someone powerful, it filters, down into everybody's life because it kinda gives permission for

The term impersonator is considered somewhat demeaning in the acting world, suggesting that the
actor has simply copied the manner, dialect, and behavior of a character, instead of creating the
character. There are times when such a skill is useful–when a filmmaker needs a portrayal of a
recognizable historical figure, for instance, but doesn't want to distract the audience by casting a

Even though he can be considered a personality actor, no one would argue that Nicholson, who has
been nominated for 12 Academy Awards and won three, is a brilliant actor. And actors like
Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant remain popular personalities more than half a century after their
heyday. But a lesser talent who relies too much on personality risks staying power. Will audiences
50 years from now recognize the strength of personality? Or will it simply seemed mannered and
curious, a distraction instead of a beloved trait?
Stars
To define a star, think about a personality actor, only more so. A star is a distinctive screen persona,
who is well–known and popular with the moviegoing public, often to the point that some avid
movie fans become deeply curious about the actor's private life Hollywood has a long love affair
with stars, since the days of Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford. Stars are actors who are simply
famous on–screen and off, personalities so magnetic that we are interested not just in their movies
but in their personal lives as well. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are both talented actors. But they're
also famous stars, so much so that tabloids and gossip sites endlessly speculate on their relationship,
their children, and every other aspect of their lives. Obviously this has been taken to almost absurd
extremes today, where Web sites breathlessly report the content of text messages between actors and

Sophie's Choice: William Styron
William Styron's novel Sophie's Choice explores the way people moved on with life after the Great
Depression, and World War II. The book gives an inside look into the lives of two very different
individuals, Sophie, a Polish woman and an Auschwitz survivor, as well as Nathan, a Jewish man
who is a paranoid schizophrenic and growing more mentally unstable. The story is told through the
eyes of a young writer named Stingo and tells of his interactions with the couple. Grief and
depression are a lot more complicated than anyone would like to imagine, and the difficulties
victims of those conditions endure need to be dealt with, but in the 1940's people were encouraged

On top of these disasters she is also sent to a concentration camp. In the final pages of the novel she
is given the ultimatum by a Nazi soldier,
You may keep one of your children. The other one will have to go. Which one will you keep? (p.
562)
This decision is possibly the most difficult one a parent would ever have to make, and tormented
Sophie for the rest of her short life.
Suppose I had chosen Jan to go . . . to go to the left instead of Eva. Would that have changed
anything?" (p. 572)
This question remained unanswered to Sophie, who was never given the opportunity to grieve
properly for her loss. Instead, she was cast into a world where she has no choice but to be happy.
One thing that gives her hope for true happiness is Nathan, a man she meets in the library one day.
Nathan plays the role of her hero. He is a biologist who has plenty of financial resources. He nurses
her back to health and the two become lovers. However, there is one glitch in this wonderful chance
meeting. Nathan is a paranoid schizophrenic. He is addicted to the drug Benzedrine Sulfate, and
drinks excessively. More than once he is thrown into a rage, caused by a chemical imbalance in his
brain, where he hits and screams at Sophie and anyone else near him. He threatens to leave. These
stresses add to Sophie's struggles to maintain a normal life. Nathan's problems expand past his effect
on Sophie and into his own personal life.

Portrayal Of Women In Miss Representation
Miss Representation (2011) criticizes the media conglomerate's portrayal of women in film and the
disproportionate amount of women involved in the industry. Whether we accept it or not, media
consumption heavily influences our daily behavior and societal norms. When Hollywood casts
women in a monochromatic light, often sexualizing them for sensationalism, it is hard for women to
envision themselves in roles other than those portrayed and even harder for men to acknowledge
women as complex individuals greater than their film presence. By grouping common media
portrayals of women, Miss Representation emphasizes the lack of versatile of roles for women.
Although 50.8% of the population is comprised of women, the documentary cites only 16% female
protagonists in film that depict one of three generic, superficial, and stereotypical roles: the career
driven boss, the sex object, and the hopeless romantic. The career driven boss is typified as solely
career oriented. She sacrifices her family, friends, and even sometimes her own happiness for the
sake of her job. The entire plot revolves around diminishing her accomplishments in a patriarchal
world that only perceives her as bitchy. A prime example of this role would be Meryl Streep as
Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada. The next role, more dehumanizing than the last, is the
sex object characterization that seeks only to use women as body props or eye candy. While these
women may appear to be empowered in the beginning

Kramer Compare And Contrast Movie

  • 1. Kramer Compare And Contrast Movie I gave Kramer vs. Kramer a rating of four stars. I gave Kramer vs. Kramer four stars because it was entertaining. I really like this movie, it was very easy to follow and understand. Kramer vs. Kramer was very entertaining because i always wanted to know what was going to happen next. I also liked the movie because it was very realistic. It was easy to follow the plot of the movie because it is about something that could happen to us. Secondly, I gave Kramer vs. Kramer four stars because of acting. The actors in the movie are quality actors and make you feel like you part of the movie. Justin Henry, who plays Bill Kramer, was around the age of six or seven when he was acting in this movie. Even Though Justin Henry was six when filming this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Research Paper On Mama Mia Mamma Mia Movies about romance are very common, but a movie about romance with a musical format seems to never go out of style. From the timeless classic Grease, to the recent award–winning film La La Land, romantic musicals continue to captivate their audience. To create an impactful romantic musical movie you need a detailed plot, catchy soundtrack, and a talented cast. Without these elements, it leaves the movie distasteful and boring. Mamma Mia the movie directed by Phyllida Lloyd stands out among other romantic musicals. Mamma Mia is set on the Greek island of Kalokairi, as people are arriving for the wedding of Sophie and Sky. The bride to be wishes that her father will walk her down the aisle. However, Sophie doesn't know who her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Jamie Fristom's Energy Hook Energy Hook is a game that can challenge you, engage you, and promises a lot of parkour excitement. In Energy Hook, you play as a female who has energy powers that grant her an energy hook and a jetpack. Jamie Fristom, – creator of the incredible swinging system in Spider–Man 2, is the person behind this game. I think we can all agree that the swinging freedom of Spider–Man 2 has never really been utilized since, even in Spider–Man games, which is why Jamie created Energy Hook. In this game, instead of fighting super villains and wearing spandex, you are to master the swinging mechanic and compete in speed runs, trick modes, swinging challenges, and reach objectives. • 4. The Hours Research Paper Immortality in The Hours Novels and films each have their own strengths when telling a story. While books can characterize a character by providing their inner thoughts and intimately describe each detail of the setting, films can clearly portray a scene and add aesthetics such as music and color. In 2002, Stephen Daldry adapted the 1998 novel The Hours by Michael Cunningham into a movie also titled The Hours. The story has the same themes and plot elements; however, the director takes some creative license in order to add music, change dialogue, and adjust the details to create his vision of Cunningham's work. Specifically, Daldry changes the way the audience sees Clarissa's fear of morality when she questions her accomplishments on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wants his final moments to be about remembering their youth and what he considers most beautiful thing–an ordinary morning with her. His subsequent fall out the window deeply saddens her. However, this scene rings true to the words of Virginia Wolfe earlier in the film when she said, "Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more." • 5. Compare And Contrast Meryl Streep And Alvin Ailey Everyone has a role model. The two people I admire are Meryl Streep and Alvin Ailey. They both show to me how to work hard, take the time to perfect your craft, and to follow your dreams. The performing arts business can be tricky because there is a great deal of competition. However, Meryl Streep and Alvin Ailey never stopped trying and made great accomplishments in their fields. Meryl Streep has gone far beyond perfecting her craft. She is an American actress who has been said to be the greatest actress of her generation. One sign of great actress is the ability to play different roles. She has played both dramatic roles, such as in Sophie's Choice and comedic roles such as in Mamma Mia!. I personally enjoy her dramatic roles the best. She ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Fashion Industry In The Devil Wears Prada It can be said that the Fashion industry is not for everyone, especially Anne Hathaway's character in the 2006 Film The Devil Wears Prada. The fashion industry is one of the hardest business to work in and this film shows it. The fashion Industry takes a lot of time, money, dedication, and uses lots of resources that Anne Hathaway's role, Andy Sachs learns quickly. As coming out of Northwestern College as a journalist she lands a job with the magazine "Runway" as their junior Assistant for the head editor and chef Miranda Priestly, who is played by the wonderful Meryl Streep. Miranda could be described as strict, stern, demanding, and a overall perfectionist. However, by the end of dealing with Mirandas demands for a year Andy can only hope she will score a job as a reporter or writer else where, so the question is will she do it? When Andy begins her job as the junior assistant you can definitely see that she struggles a lot. Andy walking in had no sense of style, had no knowledge of what "Runway" Magazine was, and also had no idea that many people had wanted her position at this company. In fact the first day that Andy arrives at "runway" magazines home office she is absolutely appalled. Emily Charlton, Miranda's Senior assistant was supposed to interview Andy, but unfortunately as soon as Andy and Emily sat down to chat the phone had rang. It was Mirandas driver stating that they were outside and to prepare. With the look of madness in Emily's eyes you could see that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Book Thief: Character Analysis If I were to choose a character to be my best friend, I would choose Rudy Steiner. First, he clearly doesn't care what other people may think of him, as evidenced in the Jesse Owens incident. He knew he would be made fun of, but he wanted to honor Jesse Owens, so he did it. His determination and loyalty are also shown in many instances. In Hitler Youth, he was constantly knocked down for defending his friend Tommy, but always stood back up. Even after facing rejection from Liesel, he stayed by her. That is admirable, because most boys wouldn't stay friends with a girl who turned them down. Rudy always did whatever he thought would make Liesel happy in the end, and I would love to have that trait in a friend. A character I despise is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would recommend this book to anyone. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me think about myself, my words, and how they affect the world around me in a way I hadn't considered before. It was profound in an almost nonchalant manor. If you aren't thinking the whole time you read, you can miss the meaning of many important sections. I also loved the way this book brought reality to the fact that there isn't always a happy ending. In an ideal world, Liesel could've grown up to work in a library with her husband Rudy, and they would visit Hans and Rosa for dinner every weekend, but thinks don't work out like that in real life, and I really enjoyed that aspect of the book. The one complaint I have is that the book started out kind of slow. If I was writing the book, I would've spent less time focused on Liesel acclimating to life in a new home, and dealing with her brother's death. I know that her thoughts in that time were key in shaping the person she became later, but there is only so many nightmares and cigarette rolling that a person can read about before it gets boring. For the first 200 pages or so, reading felt like wading through a swamp, but after that, I couldn't put the book ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Conflict and Social Order Theory Social OrderAccording to the social order model, society is given a set of rules to regulate people behaviors and prevent anomie or "normlessness." Society serves the interests of all sharing, a strong set of norms and values, though not being able to adhere to these cause people to feel out of place. Most people accept this hierarchy as long as they see the system is fair. However, it is not fair, and this in turn becomes visible when it comes to occupations. Young people do not apply to specific jobs because they assume their qualifications are not well–built enough to obtain certain positions and therefore are exploited and oppressed in the workforce. Meryl Streep proved this by telling Anne Hathaway that reason she chose her sweater is because society, in this case the world of fashion, claims that the fashion and colour of the sweater is the "in" style. Meryl demonstrated that Anne chose a sweater without putting much thought into it, but in fact here thoughts were already shaped for her by what society had previously claimed to be the "in" style. Anne did not realize that the act of something as simple as choosing a sweater, because she liked the look or colour, was determined by previous causes that are external from her. This shows peoples actions are highly predictable and that human behaviors are the result of social causes and not of "free will."October 29, 2007How does a skeptical read of the article reveal contradictions and ambiguities about what the survey(s) is/are about?Does MacLean's provide an objective presentation of the findings of the survey? After reviewing the excerpt in Maclean's that claimed to reveal "the best and worst universities in Canada," using the two surveys the National Survey of Student Engagement and the Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium, it is reasonable to say that the results are unreliable. • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Donald Trump Just a few days ago, Meryl Streep gave an acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. During this speech, she was ranting on about how Donald Trump should not have won the 2016 presidential election, and how she felt that he was somewhat responsible for all of the hate and disrespect that our country currently has. Streep was instantaneously accused by Trump's supporters of being wrong, of cluelessness, and of bad timing. She was simply speaking her mind to us. • 11. The Devil Wears Prada Analysis The Devil Wears Prada is all about fashion which plays a big role in communication. Verbal ways of communication most likely come to the mind of others, not fashion but they do relate. The term communication can have multiple meanings such as art and music which leads our bodies to represent the message. There was one main goal in this movie which was to be the essential assistant to Meryl Streep. As the movie starts, we see that two women are competing for the job title as there can only be one in the end which results in Interpersonal conflicts. As Andy was new, Anne was not so she therefore did the job better than Anne but not for long before Andy steals the show. We see each one of these girls shows a bit of resentment towards the other since they are in competition for the assistant position. The movie, The Devil Wears Prada is obviously based around women. While watching the film, it is easy to pick out that the main characters are women. Although there are a few male characters such as Anne's boyfriend, Anne's dad, a male co–worker Nigel, Meryl's Boss, and Miranda's husband. The plot focuses a lot on Anne and her boyfriend but as well as the other men, they do however have pretty important roles. The women in the film are not afraid to use their power in the workplace and are dominantly viewed as having a strong work. As Andy starts to work for Miranda and is trying to become her assistant after just graduating from college and moving to New York, you can tell that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Devil Wears Prada Analysis Have you ever been intimidated by someone merely by their presence? What is making their presence intimidating, even if they haven't said anything? This situation would be primarily due to their body language, eye contact, and/or confidence to name a few; it is a known fact that 95% of communication revolves around nonverbal cues such as these. This large percentage of nonverbal cues can be seen in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." An average but intelligent woman named Andy Sachs lands a job at a popular fashion magazine as Meryl Streep's aka Miranda Priestly's aka the devil's assistant. She has to deal with the devils difficult demands and trying to fit into this new world she had mocked before; as she proves, and seemingly loses, herself she must decide what she really wants and how to deal with Miranda. This movie contains many examples of nonverbal language, making it hard to narrow down. In the end I chose the three things I thought had the most prevalence in the movie: Influencing others/body movement, the ambiguous nature of nonverbal, and managing impressions Influencing Others/Physical Attractiveness– How we look, act, and sound to others After a while of working there, Andy starts wearing more fashionable clothes and changes her hair/makeup. Along with this, as she gets more accustomed and comfortable with her job she gets more confidence in her body movements. One particular scene about 30 minutes into the movie, Andy walks into the office very confidently and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Manchurian Candidate by Johnathan Demme Essay The Manchurian Candidate, Johnathan Demme directed the remake. Both films portray paranoia, mind control, and conspiracy. Frankenheimer utilizes satire, humor, and symbolism to convey the themes, whereas, Demme uses modern fears, camera angles and focus, and mental illness to achieve similar results. Many of the elements of the 2004 remake have been modernized. While the original movie placed the soldiers in Korea, the remake placed them in Kuwait. Demme did changed the location of the war, in order to appeal to current fears and suspicions. In 1962, the threat of communism was at the forefront of everyone's thoughts. However, during 2004, only three years after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, citizens were no longer concerned about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film switches between perspectives of the ladies garden party and the communist officials to stress the comic surrealism of the situation. The calm and genteel ladies garden party is a stark contrast to the evil plotting of the communists. Image overlay as well as soft lighting are also used to convey the surrealism and dreamlike quality. The absurd way that Eleanor's husband, Senator Iselin, presents the supposed number (which he is constantly changing) of communists in the state department, satirizes the Red Scare and McCarthyism. Many of the accused communists during the red scare were merely from wild speculation caused by irrational fear and political movements to get rid of the opposition. It was also ironic that Eleanor, who had her husband present the fake number of communists, was actually the communist herself. The role of a mother is also satirized in the film. The 1950's portrayed mothers as pure and wholesome, however Eleanor is portrayed as the evil and conniving perpetrator of peril. The remake focused on keeping the audience and Major Marco in a constant state of paranoia and uncertainty. In the original movie, the audience is shown, as well as told by the narrator, that the platoon was captured and brainwashed by communists. Whereas, in the remake, Major Marco and the ... • 14. The Giver Essay Topics The Giver seems to begin as another adaption of the all too common heroic teenage films that seemed to follow the booming success of The Hunger Games with Katniss' heroic volunteer and Tris' dauntless traits in Divergent all destined to save their dystopian societies. Ironic as this novel was written in 1993, long before Suzanne Collins put pen to paper, however as you pan across the beginning of the black and white film it appears as a Utopia. Featuring the likes of Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges the story follows Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), who lives in a society that has been stripped of all emotion and memories of any such life and are controlled by a higher power. He spends the film acting through demanding scenes, one of which is teaching the concept of love to Jonas and showing him what it means to be human; he does this brilliantly providing huge parts of the emotion needed where Thwaites fell flat. With many other high profile names throughout the film, such as Katie Holmes, Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift, the film definitely had the people power to boost success. Ricki And The Flash Ricki and the Flash, a film that on paper is a movie destined for success, falls short in its delivery and has been met with critical disappointment in the first weekend of its release. Ricki and the Flash is packed with quality actors. Academy Award–winner Meryl Streep plays Ricki, who unlike the movie's trailers portray her, is not a rock star in the twilight of her career, desparately trying to hold on to that last dying bit of fame; Ricki is actually a rock and roll never– has–been. • 17. Influence Of Hollywood Films Hollywood Films Influence on Fashion. During the 1920s and 1930s period, the increase in demand of Hollywood movies and screen idols became widespread. Popular trends in fashion became no longer influenced only by Paris–based fashion houses. The hairstyles and clothes worn by glamorous film stars, both on and off the screen, became noticed by American and European moviegoers and created numerous fashion fads. Fashion trends in movies were immediately duplicated by retailers. Magazines issued clothing patterns influenced by film costumes, enabling women to sew together their own Hollywood inspired style frocks. The era's most copied pattern was a dress worn by Vivien Leigh (1913–1967) in a picnic scene in Gone with the Wind (1939), one of the era's most popular and publicized movies. 'Pretty Woman' is all about the woman being saved by the male who just happens to be an elite business man. We are rarely introduced to main male characters in the film who share the same amount of power as women. Fashion in both films clash to some extent. Vivian's knee high boots which we see her wearing in the beginning of the film was hugely frowned upon, whereas, in 'TDWP' we see Andy (pictured above) showcasing her new black velvet knee high boots. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on the 2nd of October, 1949. In school, Leibovitz became very involved in various artistic practises like painting and playing music. She also grew a love for photography, after taking her first pictures when she was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. She continued perfecting these photography skills all throughout her schooling life. Finally after some convincing, and an agreement that she would be a mime, Streep came around to the idea. The shoot ended up by giving her more confidence in herself and in her field of work. The arms pulling at her face, symbolises the real Meryl Streep as she is taking her mask away. The mime–type makeup acts as a facade and symbolises Meryl's acting career and embodies her diverse and versatile personality she has as an actress. It also represents her fame, which masks her inner self and private despair. It makes the viewer focus on her eyes and shows a great deal of emphasis on her face. The visual metaphor, represented by the arms that are morphing and pulling on Streep's face, represent how Streep felt at the time with all the fame and pressure. She felt out of control of who she was, and had to constantly and quickly adapt to all the different roles she played as an actress. By conveying this message, it allows the audience to have a connection with the real person behind the mask. It is as if we are in cahoots with Streep, even if it is for just a moment. After this, Annie Leibovitz started to become more and more well known. She was asked to photograph many events and was even invited to become the concert–tour photographer for the music band The Rolling Stones in 1975. She even photographed the British singer Joan Armatrading for an album cover, becoming the first women to do so. It wasn't until 1980 however, when one of her most iconic photographs was taken. Ricki And The Flash Movie Essay She doesn't necessarily have to be your favorite actress, but it's terribly difficult to refute the notion that Meryl Steep is the most talented actress on the planet– potentially even in the history of cinema. And, as if she wasn't talented enough – apparently she sings and plays the guitar now, too. In Ricki and the Flash, directed by Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia), Meryl Streep stars as wannabe rock star, Ricki Rendazzo. When Ricki was younger, she chased her dreams of becoming a musician, but lost everything else along the way – including her husband, Pete (Kevin Kline), who divorced her. Oh, let's not forget that she's been nominated for an Academy Award three times over the past five years – one of which earned her an impressive third career victory (The Iron Lady). • 20. Katherine's Speech In Taming Of The Shrew The ambiguity of whether Katherine's final speech is authentic, in which she apparently proclaims and promulgates female submissiveness, has been thought to define the tone of versions of Taming of the Shrew. However, the attitudes evoked by the monologue can also indicate values of society at the times which the play is presented. Generally, four main theories have emerged regarding the true intent behind Katherine's speech (Wikipedia, 2017): It is sincere and Katherine has been successfully "tamed". It is sincere, but because Katherine has fallen in love with Petruchio. It is ironic and is deceiving Petruchio by "parroting a socially acceptable, totally impersonal catalogue of honours a wife owes her husband" (De Wachter, 2016). It is neither, following the farcical disposition of the play–within–a–play framing device. Up until the 20th century, most of the last speeches by Katherine have adhered with the first option, including the traditional Globe Theatre adaptation. Katherine's acting in the Globe Theatre production, grounded in her facial expressions and tone of voice, shows sincerity and truthfulness in her declaration (V.ii). On the basis of this portrayal, it could be said that in a historical Elizabethan context, audiences would have accepted and deemed the domestication mechanisms and taming practises employed by Petruchio as normal. In contrast, "in a modern Western society holding relatively egalitarian views on gender", interpretations of Katherine's address ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Research Paper On Texting Puns One of the most recent types of puns is texting pun, challenged by a rapid development of social networks. Alphabetic, numeric, and simplified spelling produce texting puns well. These depend on the increasingly universal tradition of using the sound and/or spelling of alphabet letters, numbers or symbols, or simplified spelling as a way to display or "spell" a word. Cases may be "cre8" for the word "create", or "@mosphere" for "atmosphere". When we spot a texting pun, we immediately try to decipher it, and if we cannot comprehend its meaning, then we quietly "sound it out" in our heads, envisioning how it may sound, and eventually understand the joke. New texting puns are coined and implemented in everyday speech constantly as people are way too attached to their electronic devices, thus they search for ever more economical and practical ways to transmit their messages. In the popular American car insurance commercial one may find "0 CRDT CHX", which is a great example of a texting pun. To comprehend this correctly, we rationally substitute the first symbol with the word "zero", then insert the missing vowels for the word "credit", and imbed the missing vowel and adjust the spelling for the third arrangement of letters, to receive the word "checks." Merged together, the slogan "Zero Credit Checks" instructs a potential consumer that one can buy this car insurance without struggling with any credit checks. ... There are a few key themes from the movie Kramer v Kramer. One of the main themes is the theme about men being able to take care of children just as good as a female. This movie helped change America's perspective on the male parent. Another theme of the movie is that the male should appreciate his wife and all of her house duties. At this time in America men were more focused on their careers than they were focused on their wives. This led to depression and other mental illnesses on women at the time. Watt expresses moments of silence throughout the film to suggest the dept of emotion when a personal tragedy strikes us and how words are sometimes useless to those who are suffering from grief. The train driver sits at his kitchen table in silent grief, being watched by his wife. Sometimes people turn inward when they are grieving, while those around them quietly offer/give them support. For example when the train drivers son brings him a beer and they drink together in silence. This scene was shot from a distance; just as Nicks front–page photo of Julia is a long–distance shot too. The camera looks through windows and doorways at Julia as she tries to deal with the death of Rob. The family members carefully tread around her, never entering her personal space. • 37. Rhetorical Analysis Of Meryl Streep Timeless actress and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Meryl Streep, in her Cecil B. DeMille Award acceptance speech during the Golden Globe Awards, condemns President Donald Trump's mockery of a disabled reporter. Streep's purpose is to galvanize the prestigious audience into using their platforms to coalesce the nation and call out injustice. She adopts a humble tone in order to establish herself as an equal among her fellow actors all the while creating a sense of unity in her audience of renowned Hollywood stars. Streep, before mentioning Trump, gains the trust of her audience by uniting them with meaningful pathos. "...You and all of us in this room really belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now," (Streep, para.2). By using the words "you", "us", and "belong", she links every actor, from the bit parts to the leading roles. Streep further unites her audience throughout her speech, but introducing the concept early on enhances its importance to her. Before she asks her audience to use their platforms to do good, Streep further elevates each actor in the room, regardless of their merit, to be on the same level of distinguishability. "But who are we, and what is Hollywood anyway? It's just a bunch of people from other places," (Streep, para.3). This statement is common knowledge, but she elaborates as she goes on to describe the birthplaces of various Hollywood stars. From Ohio to Jerusalem, South Carolina to Ethiopia, Streep utilizes logos by listing off different homelands to prove that even A– list celebrities come from hometowns just as modest as up–and–coming starlets. By doing so, her audience members feel as equally respected as award winning actress Streep which makes them feel equally as capable to bring about change. Streep does not actually mention Trump until the second half of her speech in order to first gain the trust of her audience. While speaking about Trump, she uses anaphora to discuss power. Portrayal Of Women In Miss Representation Miss Representation (2011) criticizes the media conglomerate's portrayal of women in film and the disproportionate amount of women involved in the industry. Whether we accept it or not, media consumption heavily influences our daily behavior and societal norms. When Hollywood casts women in a monochromatic light, often sexualizing them for sensationalism, it is hard for women to envision themselves in roles other than those portrayed and even harder for men to acknowledge women as complex individuals greater than their film presence. By grouping common media portrayals of women, Miss Representation emphasizes the lack of versatile of roles for women. Although 50.8% of the population is comprised of women, the documentary cites only 16% female protagonists in film that depict one of three generic, superficial, and stereotypical roles: the career driven boss, the sex object, and the hopeless romantic. The career driven boss is typified as solely career oriented. She sacrifices her family, friends, and even sometimes her own happiness for the sake of her job. The entire plot revolves around diminishing her accomplishments in a patriarchal world that only perceives her as bitchy. A prime example of this role would be Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada.
