How it works….in four stages.
Sofa Restoration
The first stage is to prep the leather using an abrasive pad. This process removes the
transparent manufactured finish applied to leather. Removing the finish allowing colour to
properly adhere to the leather as the finish is removed, so is the colour (but not all the
,
colour). Basically, when you remove some colour form an area, that indicates the finish has been
removed, and so, you can move onto the next area.
Car Leather Interior Repairs
Once you have prepped the item with the abrasive pad, we wipe the leather with a cloth
to remove the excess prep and colour. Using a cloth we wipe the leather down with the
alcohol cleaner. This process removes any waxes, oils or silicons that may be on the
leather Removing these gives better adhesion of colour. This tends not to happen as much with
,
modern cars as the way leather was made changed, becoming more resilient against the prep. Not
to worry though, it doesn’t affect the end result!
Leather Sofa Cleaning
Once the leather has been properly cleaned it is then time to apply the colour. The first
coat is applied by sponge or cloth and then once dry we repeat this process. This is done
to work the colour into hard to reach areas creases and the grain, and to also minimise
later spray applications. The Leather Dye used is highly concentrated and so, changes the colour of
the leather quickly.

The next step is to air brush the leather dye onto the leather using the airbrush. The
colour is built up in 3 or 4 layers, between each layer the leather dye is fully dry, we dry
the leather dye with a hair dryer. To start with we need to spray the colour around the
edges of the piping and in between the seat flutes and all trimming edges. This is covering the
harder to reach areas first, which in the end, makes the job easier and uses less leather dye. We
,
then proceed to spray the colour all over the seats until it looks nice and uniform. Once we are
happy with the finish we then apply a super seal lacquer which can be provided in Matt, Gloss or
Satin.
