2. The synopsis for the video:
Stars Miranda Cosgrove as a teenager who has braces, along
with Teala Dunn and Jordyn Jones. The music video focuses
on Cosgrove’s character as she deals with bullying, and
struggles with the loss of her childhood pet dog. At the end of
the video, Cosgrove's character - now an middle aged woman
- throws a birthday party for her daughter in which she gives
her a dog as a present.
The mise en scene relects the songs tone due to the colour
palette being very bright and heavily focusing on the colour
yellow which represents happiness which links to Andrew
Goodwin’s theory: the visuals amplify the lyrics as the song is
called happier, however the narrative contrasts with this as
the star gets bullied in school and the viewer will feel sadness
towards the girl but the dog represents her happiness and
cheers her up. This video heavily focuses on the heart-
warming narrative in order to represent the artist in an
emotional way, allowing the audience to relate with the star
and the struggles of growing up. The fast paced editing
emphasises these struggles as time goes by very quickly and
we must hold onto the good things while we can.
