Write about the preliminarytask. What were you askedto do?How did you findeach stage of the

The preliminarytaskthatwasset bySir wasa continuitytaskwhere we hadtofilmsix different
shots.The shotstogethercreateda clipof someone walkingthroughadoor,sittingdownthen
havinga conversationwithanotherperson.The firstshotwasa pan of the personwalkingtowards
the door. The secondshotwas a close up shotof the individual’shandopeningthe door.The third
shotwas a wide shotof the personwalkingthroughthe door,intothe roomand takinga seat.The
fourthand fifthshotswere bothoverthe shouldershotsof eachactor.The final shotwasa twoshot
because bothactors were inthe shot.
The three maintechniqueswe were askedtolookatwere the 180 degree rule,matchonactionand
shot/reverse shot.
The 180 degree rule statesthatthe camera shouldnevercrossanimaginaryline thatpassesthrough
the middle of twoactors whenthey're stoodopposite eachother.Breakingthe rulesmeansthe eye
linesof the actors won'tmatch, itwon't looklike the twocharacterare talkingtoeach other.
Match onaction isa filmeditingterm.Itiswhere the editorcutsfromone shotto anotherwhile the
secondshotsactionstill matchesthe firstshots.We demonstratedthisinthe preliminarytaskwhen
the actor opened the doorthenthe followingshotwasaclose up of the actors hand on the door.
Shot/reverse shotisatechnique whereone characterisshownlookingatanothercharacter,and
thenthe othercharacter is shownlookingbackatthe firstcharacter.We used thiswhendoingthe
overshouldershot.WheneditingIusedthe shot/reverseshottoshow the facesof each character
whentheywere talking.

DuringfilmingIfeel asif the actors listenedtome and didwhatI askedthemto do.Theystarted
actingafter I counteddownfrom5 and cut whenI said.WheneditingIquicklyunderstoodhow to
use the programme and I feltasif I couldeasilyeditmyclipsandput themtogetherwell.FinallyI
alsothinkthe actors were veryprofessional duringfilming.TheyrarelylaughedandIhardlyhadto
stopand restart a scene because of the actors.
List three things you think couldhave beenimprovedin these stages:
WhenfilmingIcould've gota quieterbackgroundnoise soeachshotmatchedwiththe noise inthe
background.The firsttwoshots were filmedinthe same locationandthe backgroundnoise was
there forone shot thenstoppedforthe next.Thismade itobviousthatthe two shotswere filmedat
differenttimes.AnotherthingthatIcould've improvedoncould've beenthe matchonactionwhen
editing.Iunderstoodhowtouse the programme andcouldput clipstogethereasilybutIfeel Icould
improve onmymatch on action.My final improvementwouldbe consistencywhenfilming.When

Thistask gave me the ideatodo a horrorgenre for myfilmopening.Whendoingthe panshotof the
firstcharacter walkingtowardsthe doorI thoughthow that specificshotcouldbe usedina horror.
Alsowhendoingshot/reverse shotIthoughtIcoulduse that to create tensionina clipwhichcan be
usedforhorror.
