1. BOX OFFICE ANALYSIS
In this article I will be analysing the box office mojo data from the zombie genre. This will
give me an understanding on the opportunity of profit generated in the zombie film genre.
It will also give me an understanding of how the new film is popular and how much profit is
generated in the first opening week of the film.
From this I can see the top 10 zombie films and these ten films are much different to one
another. For example World War Z, the most successful zombie film with a gross profit of
$202,359,711 and an opening gross of $66,411,834 in 3,607 theatres. The film has a
situation then the solution and Brad Pitt revives the world form the zombie apocalyptic
place. The second film in the success order is Hotel Transylvania with a gross profit of
$148,313,048 and an opening gross of $42,522,194 in 3,349 theatres. This film is very
different with the target audience of a much younger generation as it is a cartoon film.
Another very big actor stars in the film which is Adam Sandler. This will also generate a
higher popularity for the film. The third film is Zombieland is also a successful film with a
gross profit of $75,590,286 and the opening made $14,733,155 in 3,036 theatres. The film is
a zombie film with a run of comedy which is also different to the other two films. This makes
each film individual and wanting more people to view the films due to not being repetitive.
Warm bodies and resident evil both have a very strong, action zombie killing theme which
is also very popular and profitable. The two films made above $60,000,000 which is very
profitable. From what I can see from the chart I can see that World War Z was a massive
success with the opening week generated a gross of $66,411,834 in 3,607 theatres. This
could be caused by the massive actor that is the main, strong character in the film, Brad
Pitt. However it could just be that the film is very good, structured film.
