During the recent 2016 presidential election, candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton could be
seen glorified on the television screens of an MSNBC segment. On the other hand, viewing Fox
News reveals a very noticeable conservative bias, favoring ideology from candidates like Donald

An increase in watching biased news has lead to another negative effect: many viewers opinions
become much more polarized. MSNBC, whose own outlook on politics are typically more liberal,
project news in the context of their views. Since the media allows for easy access to this news, their
audience, with the same outlook, are thus not "forced to challenge their way of thinking"

thing because it affects the quality of journalism and the audience's views on politics. No matter

best thing that the public can do is educate themselves on the social media that agrees with their

We saw all of these from the Obama administration this week as it desperately tried to defend its
foolhardy plan to bring Syrian refugees into the United States without adequately vetting them for
ISIS terrorists."(Fleitz) This was included in one article posted by Fox concerning the introduction
of Syrian refugees into the United States. Although there were slightly more positive articles, the
fact that it was even published by Fox shows the station's extreme bias towards the situation. It uses
negative language throughout to stress this and even directly criticizes Obama and the decision.
CNN took a more neutral stance with, "President Obama has ordered his administration to "scale
up" the number of Syrian refugees admitted to the United States in the coming year, directing his
team to prepare for at least 10,000 in the next fiscal year, the White House said Thursday"(Koran) I
was honestly extremely surprised by this article as well. Compared to Fox's example, one could say
CNN's was leaning liberal, but overall they seemed to report this occurrence objectively. I did not
detect any loaded language, but the lack of usual bias may actually suggest they do not support the

What Is BLM Effective?
Black Lives Matter (BLM) and Civil Rights Movement (CRM) are two movements where black
people fight for their rights, but is BLM actually effective? BLM is an ineffective activism group
that doesn't achieve their main goal of making more racial justice in America. Although some may
think that BLM is effective, it isn't because of how it hasn't done much but use a social media
hashtag to bring itself into reality. For these reasons, BLM shouldn't continue because of how it

Some people do see respect in BLM's actions, however. Some do not agree with Reynolds' point that
Black Lives Matter activists are disrespectful. For example, in Hunt's article she proves that Black
Lives Matter practices standing up for what is right, just like the Civil Rights Movement did. This
devotion and tenacity can even convince some to think that BLM is almost the same as The Civil
Rights Movement, but is it actually? Hunt talks about how Garza thinks that ""This has to stop. We
cannot continue to have police kill with impunity and not face any consequences" (Hunt). Even
though, Hunt talks about Garza saying that she wants to stand up for what is right and protest for
black rights, how does she know that is doing more help than it is harm? Garza only presents
information about how BLM is going to change and they haven't done much to prove this part.
Hunt's article is weak because all it talks about is what Garza says about BLM's potential; Reynolds,
on the contrary, presents the more real look on BLM's movement. In Reynolds' article she explains
how BLM isn't helpful because "The demonstrations are peppered with hate speech, profanity, and
guys with sagging that show their underwear" (Reynolds). In other words, Reynolds reveals the true
side of BLM is just a bunch of people being disrespectful in both their language and their clothing

Liberal bias is undoubtably an orthodox notion among consumers of mainstream broadcast
journalism. For decades, Republicans have repeated a mantra alleging that the media as a whole are
biased against their party and their politicians. However, with the rise of conservative talk radio and
TV programming, democrats have somewhat embraced this "bias" thus, digging a deeper void
between politically active audiences. This was my elementary perspective of this contentious issue.

Oh, well imagine, as major news/media sites criticize the tragedies and successes of the world
before actually reporting about it. You don't have to imagine this. Its real and it is everywhere.
Biased media distorts the real events and changes the way the public views the world. Even some
media sources would not tell the truth just to pursue the liberal agenda. Ted Cruz, a 2016
presidential candidate, say "The questions asked in [the Republican Presidential Debate] illustrate
why the American people don't trust the media." Now, Mr. Cruz has a point. A majority of the media
is leaning toward the liberal side of the house.
In a Gallup Poll, "32% [of people say] they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media.
This is down eight percentage points from last year." People have already started to lose trust in the
media because of its bias.

–Leaving out one side of an article to favor a liberal or conservative side
–Selecting sources that favor liberal or conservative sides, just to say "experts say."
–Selecting stories that cover a major agenda of either side.
–Placing articles to downplay events that favor a side
–Labeling people as "far right" or "far left"
–Tries to make one side seem wrong

Media bias cripples our ability to find information about politics. Prejudice among different news
sources, such as The Hill, NY Times, and CNN makes it difficult to see beyond opinionated
information and determine what's really true. I personally find it exasperating to read about or watch
the news and stay updated on current events, especially with controversial topics, with all the sifting
between what's real, and what happens to be false or skewed information due to beliefs held by the
individuals in charge of covering these issues. From what I can tell by looking at the three former
sources I've chosen, the use of word choice among certain topics and their way of labeling certain
groups or individuals varies, even if they might be describing the same event or news story that's
going on at that time.
To start, the New York Times used an interesting choice of labeling Middle Eastern soldiers. "The
United States military bombed Islamic State fighters in Somalia for the first time on Friday, a sign
that the air campaign against the group was expanding after recent battlefield successes against the
militants in Iraq and Syria." The New York Times also used the phrase "the extremists in Iraq and
Syria". This came as a surprise to me, seeing as the other two sources referring to these "Islamic
State fighters" as simply "Terrorists". I assume the reasoning behind this is to avoid the use of
derogatory terms and label the group more as radicals under terms of religion, rather

people up. Black Lives Matter came into being because of the police shootings of African American

on recent issues. News is suppose to be trustworthy non partisan information, instead it is just

headline points out that he served in the Air Force and was arrested for assaulting his wife and child.

Introduction The term media is often represented within popular culture in varying degrees. To a
great extent, there seems to be a tendency to interchange media and mass communication. In this
regard, it is imperative and perhaps prudent to define media holistically before proceeding further.
For purposes of coherence, the definition of media will be categorized into two spheres; traditional
media and new media. According to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (2009), traditional media
can be defined as the collective media technologies such as radio, newspapers, television,

The Bias Of The Media
There is no getting away from the fact that the media is biased it is just which side of the aisle that
they are biased to that I believe is the main question that needs to be answered. The progressive
liberal side screams bias whiles the conservative army also scream bias so is there really bias in the
media. I will take a look at the mass media most specifically cable news and syndicated talk shows
to prove the point that bias in the media is more a myth that the leaders of each side preaches so that
their followers believe that this bias exist. Not to be confused media bias does exist but also there is
barely any objective source left such that once you start reading through the lines you realize the

In as much as we might try our best to ignore it, communication among people always happens in a
context. A statement made in one's presence whiles an event is happening will convey a different
