2. NATURAL DISASTER
It is a major adverse event resulting from natural
processes of the earth .
Eg: Flood, volcanic eruption, earthquake, Tsunami etc.
Cause: loss of life and property.
In 2012 – 905 disasters worldwide - 93% weather
disasters.
3. QUAKE ON 25th APRIL
• Occurred in 25 April 2015 at 11:56 NST , with a
magnitude of 7.8.
• It’s maximum intensity is of IX (Violent).
• Epicentre – 80km from northwest of Kathmandu.
• Continued aftershocks occurred throughout Nepal
within 15–20 minute intervals, with one shock
reaching a magnitude of 6.7 on 26 April.
• Risk of Land slide.
4. REASON :
• The two tectonic plates the Indian plate and the Euraisan
plate moving 45mm North per year.
• The two tectonic plates meet beneath the Himalayas
along a fault line.
• As the two plates pushes against each other the
pressure is released in the form of earth quake
5. INTENSITY
• Tremors - Indian states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, West
Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Gujarat .
• Many buildings were brought down in Bihar. Minor cracks in the
walls of houses were reported in Odisha.
• Minor quakes were registered as far as kochi in the southern
state of Kerala.
• The earthquake was also experienced across southwestern
China, which is 1,900 km away.
6. • A second major earthquake occurred on 12 May 2015 at 12:51 NST
with a magnitude of 7.3 .
• The epicenter was between the capital of Kathmandu and
Mt.Everest.
• This earthquake occurred along the same fault as the original
magnitude 7.8 earthquake of 25 April but further to the east.
• 117 died in Nepal and about 2,500 were injured. 17 others died in
India and one in China.
• Tremors: Bihar , Uttarpradesh , West Bengal.
7. AFTER MATH:
• This disaster affected areas in Nepal, India, China, Bangladesh.
• The Gorkha earthquake killed 8836 people and injured more than
21,952 .
• As of 2 June 2015, 294 aftershocks had occurred with different
epicenters and magnitudes equal to or above 4 .
• Caused avalenches on Mt.Everest.
8. DAMAGES:
1000’s of house destroyed.
Tribhuvan airport closed immediately.
Dharahara tower (1832) were collapsed.
Monuments: Kumari temple,Taleju Bhawani temple.

10. RESCUE AND RELIEF
90% Napalese army under “Operation Sankat
Mochan” and volunteers from other country too.
Impassable roads , damages communication –
posed challenges to rescue efforts.
