2. SFA funding Update
• The SFA announced yesterday that they will be extending current provider contract to delver
Apprenticeships until December 2017 stating:
• Procurement was markedly oversubscribed
• The need to review their approach to ensure that they achieve the right balance between stability
of supply and promoting competition and choice for employers
• That they can fully consider how best to achieve outcomes in a way that achieves the best value
for employers and apprentices as they move to a fully employer-led system.
• They are seeking to undertake further engagement with the market to clarify their approach
This ALL seems late in the day and one must ask how does the recent delays in the procurement
line and rumours of a stalled process be driving this change in policy rather than a planned
approach.
• The newly formed ESFA stated it that will notify providers of specific arrangements shortly so that
amended contracts are in place ahead of 1 May although date for this has been given
3. Concerns Raised so Far
• A number of training providers who are sub-contractors anticipated starting their own contract from
May 1st. These have been severely affected by the decision to extend existing contracts held by
current providers and not issue contracts to new providers
• We are still unaware of individual allocations and how these will be allocated across Cash Envelopes
Will this be based on the existing funding allocation model and how will they allow for carry over
It is likely that the funding will be based on the new banding I’m unsure they will require a 10%
contribution from the employer from May or they will reset the clock to January 18.
