The DA welcomesthe announcementthatAmazonwillestablishitsSouthAfrican headquartersin
the Cityof Cape Town.
Thisprojecthas the potential tocreate up19 000 jobs – 5 239 duringthe constructionphase alone –
and will injectanestimatedR4billionintothe local economy.
The announcementhighlightsthatthe Cityof Cape Townhas setitself atthe forefrontof investment
and economicdevelopmentinthe country,while keepinglocal concernsfrontof mind.31 900 m² of
the developmentisintendedforresidentialpurposesthatwill include affordablehousing
opportunities.
The extendedCovid-19lockdownhascauseddevastationonthe SouthAfricaneconomy,withCape
Townnot escapingthiseconomicfall-out.Thisdevelopmentthat“offersmanyeconomic,social and
environmental benefitsforthe area”will serve torevitalizethe local economyandincrease the trust
alreadyplacedinthe competence of the WesternCape government,once againprovingthatthe DA
doesitbetter.
