What does it need to become a collaborative organization? Slides of the talk given at CN Wintercongress of Detecon Consulting in February 2015. After an introduction to the Collaborative Economy and its relation to the term "Sharing Economy", the presentation shows reasons for its rapid growth: Businesses as platforms. What are the elements of a platform? Why does it allow for rapid growth and value creation? Taking this as a basis, we translated the concept to the organizational level using OuiShare as an example. What does it need to become a truly collaborative organization? What is the culture and tools needed? What tools and organizations inspired OuiShare?

At the Nordic APIs Stockholm conference on March 31, 2014, Pernilla Näsfors was sharing her experiences from working with other international aid donors and local governments at the World Bank, and from her previous job as the product manager of the Openaid.se website at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), one of the first Swedish government websites with an open API.

Software eats the world, data is the oil of the XXIst century… yet, assessing my retirement pension online is still a pain. And I'm pretty sure I already filled in that form six months ago! Why aren't public services as easy to use as AirBnB? What would happen if civil society could use their APIs? Or if one made pull requests on them? In this session, I will talk you through remarkable examples of government services digital transformation, and highlight what they have in common. Spoiler: it is always about being more open, more collaborative, and more trustful. Did you say more “agile”? I will illustrate these points with the French beta.gouv.fr initiative, in which we use digital, agile and lean culture to deliver high-quality digital public services that change the relationship between citizens and the administration.

Syngulon’s technology expands the capacity for selection of microorganisms. The ability to select individual microbes with a behavior of interest is essential, whether for simple cloning at the bench, or for industry-scale production. Synthetic biology uses the concept of “bioengineering” to improve or modify existing genetic systems to create microbes with desired behaviors, and Syngulon uses this approach to develop its selection technologies. This selection technology is based on bacteriocins, ribosomally-produced peptides naturally made by most bacteria to kill competitive microbial species. These bacteriocins can have a limited or wide target range against other microbial species. This technology offers advantageous over antibiotic selection for several reasons: it avoids the use of antibiotics in the first place, helping to reduce the spread of antibiotic resistant microbes. The technology also increases product yield; as bacteriocins are generally smaller peptides, they do not impose a heavy metabolic burden on the producing cell. They can have a wide target specificity, helping to avoid genetic drift. Finally, our system is 100% plasmid-based (e.g. without chromosomal mutations), making it applicable for use in any E. coli strains.
