Culture and Psychological Functioning
Many of the social cognitive processes discussed in this course
so far describe the impact of social stimuli on one’s cognitive
processing. Culture clearly impacts language, political systems,
legal systems, educational systems, caretaking practices, and
media. It stands to reason that culture also influences social
cognitive structures such as attitudes and stereotypes.
For this Discussion, review the weekly topics for this class
(e.g. controlled/automatic processing, attribution, stereotyping,
attitudes, etc. ...). Choose one of those weekly topics and find
two peer reviewed articles from the Walden Library which
examine the connection between culture and the topic you
chose.
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 3
a brief explanation of the two research studies you selected
which examine the connection between culture and the weekly
course topic you chose (e.g. controlled/automatic processing,
attribution, stereotyping, attitudes, etc...). Based on your
articles, explain two ways social cognitive processes may
evolve in response to exposure to different cultures. Be sure to
include one of your own cultural experiences as an example

  • 1. Culture and Psychological Functioning Many of the social cognitive processes discussed in this course so far describe the impact of social stimuli on one’s cognitive processing. Culture clearly impacts language, political systems, legal systems, educational systems, caretaking practices, and media. It stands to reason that culture also influences social cognitive structures such as attitudes and stereotypes. For this Discussion, review the weekly topics for this class (e.g. controlled/automatic processing, attribution, stereotyping, attitudes, etc. ...). Choose one of those weekly topics and find two peer reviewed articles from the Walden Library which examine the connection between culture and the topic you chose. With these thoughts in mind: Post by Day 3 a brief explanation of the two research studies you selected which examine the connection between culture and the weekly course topic you chose (e.g. controlled/automatic processing, attribution, stereotyping, attitudes, etc...).
