Persuasive Essay On Prostitution
"Unicef recently reported that an estimated 1.8 million children enter the sex trade each year. Some
are in the United States, but the worst abuses take place in countries like Pakistan, India,
Bangladesh, Nepal, and Cambodia" (Kristoff), but while saving some life outside is very diverse,
some girls go on to be very successful while others return to the life of prostitution.
Rescue efforts that are effective in removing children permanently from sexual slavery involve
under–cover investigation, and people who are willing to risk their lives. Rescue efforts involve
great risk on the part of the rescuer. One of the risks the raids are being up against the police while
being a government agent in a way, some police officers are bribed by the owners of the young girls
to keep quiet. Kristoff lists that police officers are taking bribes. In the book "Sold" by Nicholas
Kristoff he lists Shahanna and Lakshmi having a conversation about police, saying ""Policeman are
supposed to stop people like Mumtaz from selling girls," she says. "But she gives this one money
each week and he looks' the other way""(Kristoff). The girls are having a conversation about police
corruption and how Mumtaz keeps them away. Mumtaz bribes the policeman into being quiet about
the illegal selling of girls to keep her safe, this creates a risk for rescuers because they don't know
who they can trust. The police are armed and can be dangerous since they are corrupt. Another
reason rescuing the girls is risky is because the rescuers must go undercover in the process of
organizing these raids on the brothels is the gathering of information and evidence from the
undercover agent going into the brothel, especially being in constant danger of a pimp catching, and
killing him, while being inside the brothel, the article "Raiding a Brothel in India" said
"International Justice Mission, a Washington–based aid group that fights human trafficking, had
spotted Chutki while prowling undercover looking for prostituted children" (Kristoff). The
undercover agents are in danger when being inside the brothels gathering intel. The agents remain
anonymous in reports to protect them for future purposes.
Another challenge rescuers face is that even after they

How To Undercover Alcatraz
Imagine it's a cold foggy night your shivering form head to toe outside of that dreaded prison until
someone yells "get in the boat it's time to get off this rock" so you get in and never look back at that
horrible prison they call "Alcatraz." On the night of June 11/1962 three men tried their luck
escaping Alcatraz their names where Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin. The men
wanted to do the unthinkable escape Alcatraz. Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers died trying to
escape Alcatraz on June 11, 1962. The men died while braving the risky waters of the San Francisco
bay. The waters were shark infested and had very strong currents I also found the raft they used was
made out of rain leftover coats. The currents alone would have posed a tremendous threat because
they were so strong they could tear the flimsy boat to ribbons. Also the bay was very cold and could
cause hypothermia in mere seconds. The men could not have possibly lived because of these
obstacles in their way. The men had an ingenious plan that was months in the making. The would be

The entire city of San Francisco was involved in the search for the missing convicts. However the
men never reached the main land because after the escape attempt a raft made of rain coats washed
ashore on angel island but I did some more research on the subject and found that the raft had
sustained major damage to the sides and to the bottom this supports my theory because the men
could have fallen out of the raft which is why is washed ashore because it had no additional weight
added to it this making it light enough to float. Another piece of evidence was on the day right after
the angel island incident when a body surfaced in the bay but it was mauled beyond recognition but
could have easily been one of the inmates who

The Undercover Parent Summary
¨The Undercover Parent¨ by Harlan Coben, published in an online newspaper (NewYorkTimes.com,
March 16,2008), claims that the Internet is dangerous for kids. Harlan Coben explained how
spyware could keep track of our kids, but it also invades the sons' and daughters' privacy. He also
claims that parents should have conversations about their concerns with teens, and let them know
spyware is a possibility. Coben started with an anecdote about spyware, presenting the topic,
acknowledging hesitation, recognizing how parents feel, countering parental arguments, stating
counterarguments, argues and claims about eavesdropping, suggests that parents should use
spyware, and encourages the parents to use it. The author's purpose is to warn the audience ... Show

A lot of kids met someone online and decides to meet them somewhere, which is dangerous. In my
own experience, I've been calling and chatting strangers online. I've been making a lot of Internet
friends online even though, I know in myself that it's dangerous. There have been a lot of reports
about strangers killing kids or some victim that they have been deceived or have deceived online.
Spyware is one of the ways prevent the killing incidents and it is also a way to prevent our children
seeing or clicking through the harmful sites. A kid researching might accidentally click on a site that
has a lot of malicious pictures, adult content, and some other stuff that the kid shouldn't see. In
paragraph 8, Coben said, ¨First, we've all read about the young boy unknowingly conversing with a
pedophile or the girl who was cyber bullied to the point where she committed suicide.¨ I agree on
this part because I've been cyber bullied once. Some guy posted bad things about me on Facebook
and I knew that everyone could see it. Luckily, my friends didn't believe it and everyone reported
him. A lot of people are experiencing or have experienced cyber bullying and I know that there's a

Goat Occurrence Crimes
The Kind of Person She Is A missing goat occurrence crime's case began the evening of January
25th, 2002. The event still shocks people when they hear about it. Who could ever do such a thing?
There is a very complex formula that helped the police finalize the suspects. The events of what
happened are to be revealed on this edition of Jaylee Weekly; however, not all is revealed at this
moment. This is because, although he may be dead, Goat still needs personal privacy. The following
suspects have been proven innocent: Johnny the Apple Seed, Haley Galey the Snail, and Bridgette
the Hippo. They all had record proof of their whereabouts on that wretched January night. Still yet

People like to think she would never do such a thing, because she is a young girl. A lot of the time,
some information will lead people to believe otherwise. Georgentina had very vague motives and
very little evidence against her, one being her distaste for Goat after a dispute that Goat caused with
her, this made her already strong distaste for him way stronger. She may be a very petty human
being, perhaps. Maybe she wanted to prove to someone how "strong" she is. Evidence provided
showed that Georgentina was having an affair with Goat's only son and only child. Goat's
disapproval ruined the relationship and the gator may have held a grudge against the goat. Maybe
Georgentina wanted him back and thought this was the only way to go about it. More evidence
provided shows the 25– year–old female has anger issues, causing fights at many bars and with
anyone who dares to go against anything the woman says. She has an inferiority complex and also
must always be right.Another motive for the young woman is the fact that she found out Goat was
an abusive father toward her boyfriend, she screamed tons of obscenities at him, so she may be
vengeful for her ex–boyfriend. However, she usually got along well with Goat after they split and
she has been proven to be an overall good

Analysis Of The Undercover Parent
Every day teenagers use the internet, whether it's on their phones or on the computers at school or at
home. Their lives are practically centered around it. They're connecting with each other on social
media such as: Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and even online video games, and this has is benefits, but
it can also have some negative and possibly dangerous situations. The internet is not a safe haven
for anyone or anything. In the article "The Undercover Parent" the author, Harlan Coben, makes the
argument that spyware is alright to be used by parents on their kids computers as long as the parents
are using the software responsibly. I agree with Coben's statements because of his solid arguments
of dangerous conversations, privacy, and bullying. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One argument that many people mention is that spyware is an invasion of privacy. As a teenager
myself, I value the whole idea of privacy. The use of spyware to monitor your child's computer is on
the borderline of invasion of that privacy; however the use of none of it is on the borderline and
even beyond the point negligence. Coben mentions this idea of privacy on the internet that, "One of
the most popular arguments against spyware is the claim that you are reading your teenager's every
thought, that in today's world, a computer is the little key–locked diary of the past. But posting
thoughts on the Internet isn't the same thing as hiding them under your mattress."(Coben 1). In
reality, there is no real form of privacy on the internet. What you post there will forever be there and
can be seen by anyone no matter how many passwords or locks you put on it. However most teens
and kids would still over look this idea and consider the use of spyware an invasion of their privacy,
and it can be. If you are monitoring every single conversation your child has, then that's crossing the
line and invading the privacy of your child. There is a difference between being responsible and
being nosy. You as a parent are there to look out for dangerous chatter or possible conversations that
look and sound concerning. You are not there to listen in on what teacher they hate, or who they
have a crush on, or if they're crying over how a book ended. However, not monitoring at all is
practically a form of neglect. Being a parent it is your responsibility to protect your child from the
possible dangers of the world, whether it is in real life or online. Providing no form of protection or
even checking on your child's activities online can put them at high risk of getting hurt whether it is
emotionally or physically. The dangers are out there and it is worth crossing the border of privacy in

Summary Of The Undercover Parent
In "The Undercover Parent" Harlan Coben thinks that parents should use spyware to keep tabs on
what their kids do on the internet. According to Coben, there are two reasons to put spyware on your
child's computer. One, parents need to protect their kids from cyberbullying and secondly, everyone
already can see what your children do on the internet. Coben also says that children will find other
ways to avoid the spyware such as using cellphones; but, Coben says, cell phones are better than
computers. Coben deems that parents should tell their kids that they have installed a spyware in the
computer. Coben makes some great arguments, but I do not agree with him. Cyber bullying has
become a great obstacle in today's world. Coben suggests

Medusa Files Civil War
Jones spent the entire day reading the Medusa Files, most of which contained reports about a
possible civil war coming based on racial hatred. Preston had left a lot of interesting information
regarding the history of the files and its long–term implications. The Medusa Files were old, having
been started a long time ago by other agents as far back as the late 1990s, who either ran out of leads
or found nothing but dead ends. Preston noted that despite the lack of good leads in the case, racial
tension in America was constantly on the rise, and getting worst. The Medusa Files were left on the
backburner for a while and essentially a cold case for years to come as sheer conjecture without any
solid proof. Until an intrepid young agent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

America. And yet, he had to go see for himself. Now he's missing or dead." "He did what he had to
do. It's our job. Encountering danger is an occupational hazard." "I agree." "The question to answer
is: What are they up to? Are they building an army on foreign soil and gathering an international
invasion force? How can a small or large white supremacist group of any kind, plot to take over the
United States in the first place? And what connection does South America play 6,000 miles away?"
Jones said somewhat exasperated. "That's the puzzle. It makes no sense. But not all is lost. Katy is
working on that angle right now." "She is? How is she doing that?" Jones asked rather curiously. "I

The Undercover Parent Summary
Harlen Coben in an editorial titled "The Undercover Parent" (March 16, 2008) claims that parents
should have conversations about their concerns with teens, and let them know how spyware is a
possibility.Should parents of teens and tweens go undercover? Harlen Coben, the author is trying to
make parents have conversations with their teens and tween about internet safety, and let them know
if spyware is a possibility. I agree but in some opinions i disagree with Coben and his prediction. If
you put spyware on your computer, you have the ability to log every keystroke your child makes
and thus a good portion of his or her private world. That's what spyware is at least the parental
monitoring kind. You don't have to be an expert to put it on your computer. Harlen Coben is saying
that the internet is not a safe place everything you put on there stays even if you delete it it stays on
there forever. Harlen Coben is telling parents that they need to watch out for their kids because the
internet is a very dangerous place parents don't want their kids going out with someone they met
online because they're a stranger and could be really weird. Harlen Coben doesn't want ... Show

The reason I really agree is because Coben is showing how good spyware could be because it could
tell you what your kids are doing and see if it's bad and even see who they're even talking because
they could be talking to some crazy and weird people. Another good thing about spyware is that you
could put a tracking device in their cell phones to see if they're going in a bad neighborhood. If I
was a parent I would consider using spyware just to make sure that my children are ok and not in
danger. Coben is trying to get parents to agree but some parents might think it's invading their
children's space but Coben is just trying to show that without protection it could lead into

1984 vs Today Essay
1984, a novel by George Orwell, represents a dystopian society in which the people of Oceania are
surveilled by the government almost all the time and have no freedoms. Today, citizens of the
United States and other countries are watched in a similar way. Though different technological and
personal ways of keeping watch on society than 1984, today's government is also able to monitor
most aspects of the people's life. 1984 might be a dystopian society, but today's condition seems to
be moving towards that controlling state, where the citizens are surveilled by the government at all
times.
The 1984 community provided many ways to surveill its citizens, one being The Thought Police

Though the consequences of citizen's actions through technology today are not as severe or are non
punishable, they do not take the government's surveillance as seriously as the citizens of Oceania
did in 1984. One NSA system can reach about 75% of all US Internet traffic, communications by
foreigners and Americans (Gorman n. pag.). The US government's defense to surveillance claims is
that the justification is National Security (Calamur n. pag.)., and this may be true, but the question
of the freedom to privacy ratio, as a free nation, is still undecided. One way surveillance is now
even more accessible is due to Google Glass. "With Google Glass, nobody's pointing a camera...
phone. You no longer know if you're being filmed... an unspoken social rule is being violated"
(Brown 42). and gives the government the ability to see from the point of view of anyone. With
most every person you meet having quick access to some sort of recordable technology, it is easy to
have your actions recorded or documented without your knowledge. The information can be easily
spread around the world without your knowing or permission with just a simple touch. As said
before, ".....an unspoken social rule is being violated" (Brown 42), taking away the sense of privacy
and security felt by many Americans. Another form of surveillance, used by specifically the NYPD,
is the use of undercover cops. Since The Occupy Wall Street

New York City Cops The NYPD is one of the finest law enforcements when it comes to containing
drugs, except one, heroin. The business of drugs exponentially grows to new heights every year.
Around the early 70's, heroine was being brought over to the united states at very high rates. New
York City was a famous shipping ground for heroine, which made times tough for the law
enforcement. At one point in history a person could find all sorts of dirty businesses in New York,
whether it's pimping, selling drugs or other malicious crimes. There are many famous mobsters that

3. How much time do I have to execute this before the cops find out?
In the 70's before there was much technology to help and crack down these major dealers, the police
would have to deal with it by purely just evidence.
These cases always have to be dealt with patience. Buddy and Popeye tail a Lincoln that eventually
parks on a side street. Just like in real life they wait and wait to see if anything occurs and surely
does, at 4:10 A.M they both catch two thieves trying to strip the Lincoln. The Lincoln is towed back
to a garage where it is searched for evidence or in this case drugs.
They search everywhere from the trunk, under the hood and in the seating but come up empty. They
start to get a bit impatient but do not give up and eventually do find the drugs. It turned out to be in
the car's rocker panels underneath the doors. From this they have all the evidence they need to put
these mobsters in prison once and for all. As in reality a big case such as this will never be solved in
a couple of days, it could take weeks, months or even years.
The French Connection is one of the most realistic police movies that I have ever seen and teaches a
lot about cops. There are some stereotypes as Popeye who plays the tough cop role and at times
could be racist, while his partner buddy is the more patient and quiet one than his loud and
obnoxious partner. It's a common formula seen in other police movies. This

The now generation has become the title of teenagers of today. The world offers endless possibilities

Ethical Considerations Of Undercover Policing
The Ethical Considerations of Undercover Policing
Candace A. Goldsmith
University of North Texas
There are those who would argue that undercover policing is unethical, however it is a central part
of intelligence led policing. Undercover policing, sometimes referred to as covert policing is where
officers go undercover, often as criminals in order to gain intel, evidence, get convictions and make
arrest. However many would argue that this practice is unethical because it requires police officers
to lie and engage in criminal activity. This paper will not take a stance on whether or not the practice
of covert policing is ethical, but will instead examine the arguments and problems surrounding
undercover policing. Which include; unchecked power, the use of deceit, authorized criminality,
infringement of privacy rights, psychological stress placed on officers and its overall effectiveness.
Isolation can lead to unchecked power and abuses of authority. One of the characteristics of covert
policing is the isolation from other uniformed officers. This is a point of contingency for many
scholars as it is believed this type of isolation insulates undercover officers from the consequences
of abusing their positions. "The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being
only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent
on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence" (Sir

The Pilot Episode Of Undercover Boss
Undercover Boss The pilot episode of "Undercover Boss" provides a nice interpretation of the social
interaction approach because of the fact that it introduces a boss who is previously unknown to one
of his many workers who are just following the rules that the boss has laid out. It gives a variety of
opinions from different angles and a chance to look at socializations that would otherwise never

Examples Of Undercover Racism
Undercover Racism
I believe that racism is a part of human nature and has always existed. Many people use the word
racism, but most only know a small fragment of what the word means. Most people believe that
racism is overt, and is solely when one group or person uses racial stereotypes, slurs, or actions that
exclude a certain group or person based on skin color. Instead, I believe that over many centuries
this definition of racism has changed into something more covert and insidious. As a result, it is
more difficult to define racism, but we can show how it works in different areas of life. Some of the
different subsets of racism are: interpersonal racism, systematic racism, cultural racism, and
internalized racism.
Interpersonal racism usually deals with a person's belief or behaviors towards another person. This
type of racism is the easiest to notice because it is mostly done out in the open. Verbal abuse, hate
crimes, slander, and libel all fall underneath the category of interpersonal racism. In some cases, this
type of racism is harder to detect and therefore goes unnoticed. One example of hidden interpersonal
racism is when a minority is silenced for speaking out about its experiences with racism. There are
even more subtle instances such as a person of one race refusing to make eye contact with a person
of another. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Internalized racism is when a race has been oppressed and discouraged for so long that it starts to
accept and believe what it has been constantly told. An example of this is when a Black girl hates
her skin color or hair because cultural racism says she would be more beautiful with a lighter skin
tone and straight hair. One effect of internalized racism is colorism, which is when a person with a

The Ethical Considerations Of Undercover Essay
Undercover Ethics
Sheila Capers
Saint Leo University
Abstract We teach our children to follow the law and never tell a law and yet there is a field of work
that requires deception and illegal activities in order to succeed. This line of work is within the
scope of the law. It is mob related or connected to any other line of criminal activity that may jump
into a person's head, but rather is a part of law enforcement. Undercover work takes its toll on all
involved. The ethical considerations involved are tremendous. What are acceptable activities for the
undercover officer is a grey area that creates a backlash of debate on a regular basis. Is it acceptable
for an undercover officer to smoke weed or shoplift in order to maintain their cover? What about
more violent crimes such as armed robbery? How far should an undercover go to protect their
cover? What about if they learn about a terrorist attack or a bombing plan? Should they report such
plans or maintain their cover at all costs?
Key words: undercover, ethics, deceit, police
Undercover officers are a special breed all their own within the law enforcement field. Officers are
removed from their normal lives and recreated over and over again for the benefit of society as a
whole. The very nature of their job requires the use of deception and the violation of some laws.
"Police officers often tell lies; they act in ways that are deceptive, they manipulative people and

I am very interested in the upcoming election and how the different parties' attitudes to business and
welfare will affect the vote and the eventual success of the country. I wish to study a course that will
provide me with a thorough insight into the political and economic impact of our national decisions.
Books such as Tim Harford's The Undercover Economist have further revealed how the economy
and the 'real' world interact. This has made me query how much a number like the GDP matters
when it fails to take into account elements as important (albeit nearly immeasurable) as a
population's happiness. I am interested that Nicolas Sarkozy is raising these issues in France. I keep
up with current affairs through reading newspaper articles and watching programs such as Question

Analysis Of The Movie ' Eyes Of The Sky '
Eyes to the Sky In May of 1992, famous play director Gordon Davidson approached Anna Deavere
Smith to put on a theater production based on the Los Angeles riots. The play premiered one year
after the incident occurred and was named "Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992", after an ex–gang member
who left a lasting impression on Smith with his views on racial barriers. "Twilight's recognition that
we must reach across ethnic boundaries is simple but true." (Smith xxvi). Smith interviewed
hundreds of people from different ethnic backgrounds to make sure that she was correct in the
representation of every race. Out of the twenty–five individuals she chose to include in her show,
Theresa Allison is one that many can relate to. Although Theresa has experienced tragedies that
have hit close to home, she possesses the strength, compassion, and determination needed to achieve
her goal in protecting the youth in her area from corrupt Los Angeles police department officers.
The love that Theresa has for her son is represented in many ways, one of which being her
determination to fight against corruption. She is a single mother living in South Central Los Angeles
who wants to see a change within her community after her nephew Tiny is killed in a drive–by
constructed by undercover police. Her son Dwayne gives her the idea to create an organization to
help fight against the abuse of authority from the LAPD by bringing the gang members living in

Facebook, Snapchat, Kik, Twitter, Instagram, and gaming sites are all good until something bad
happens. Author Harlan Coben writer of "The Undercover Parent", believes parents should monitor
their children's software. Even though children find software useful, parents should monitor their
kids software because children can be cyber bullied. Children can also be in danger of pedophiles .
Writer Harlan Coben, states in his article, "Everything your child types can already be seen by the
world." Teachers, potential employers, friends, neighbors, can view the things your children are
doing. There are online messages that are recorded and kept by search engines. Which means other
people can see conversations that were talked about before. ... Show more content on

Coben states the dangers, "First, we've all heard about the young boy unknowingly conversing with
a pedophile." You may hear that an internet predator approached or kidnapped a child on the news,
but as a parent you will assume its not happening to your child. Kids, teenagers, and their parents
can't tell an internet predators until it's too late. According to Pure–sight, " 100 percent of the cases,
teens that are the victims of sexual predators have gone willingly to meet with them. Also teens are
willing to meet with strangers: 16 percent of teens considered meeting someone they've only talked
to online and 8 percent have actually met someone they only knew online"
The most important reason parents should monitor their kids software is because children can be
cyber bullied . Coben also talked about the girl who was cyber bullied to the point where she
committed suicide. Is my child being cyber bullied? As a parent this is a question you should ask
yourself. Many parents realize there's something wrong with their child when it's too late. Maybe
monitoring and checking up on your child can help prevent these dangers.
Although children find software useful , parents should monitor their kids software for two main
reasons. First, children can be cyber bullied . But most importantly, children can be in danger of
pedophile. Be sure to talk to your kids about the dangers of the internet. As a parent you should
always make sure you can easily see what your kids are doing online. To be able to see if there

Of all of the law enforcement officers that we will talk about today, few are more famous than the
men in this room. Eliot Ness, Elmer Irey, Harry Anslinger, and J. Edgar Hoover were all well known
for taking down criminals involved in many different rackets. Eliot Ness of the Bureau of
Prohibition and Elmer Irey of the IRS were particularly influential in taking down gangsters during
the 1920's and 30's. Though Ness could not get a conviction to stick to Al Capone, he and his posse
of agents were famous for being "The Untouchables", meaning that they could not be corrupted by
the criminals they chased. It helped to bring legitimacy to law enforcement that had been sorely
lacking due to the many cops on the take from bootleggers. It was actually Elmer Irey and his
department full of accountants that ended up saddled with Capone's case. They were able to prove
that he made over $1 million more than he had claimed on his taxes. This figure didn't even come

Constitutional issue was whether the police had violated Hebert's right to remain silent in process of
obtaining information. Basic doctrines from the principals of fundamental justice were examined
which involved (1) investigating common law rules (2) examining the Charter (3) examining the
purpose of the right to remain silent.
1. Common Law Rules McLachlin concluded that there was a person whose right was at risk by the
processes that occurred. Hebert had the right to choose whether to make a statement to the police or
to remain silent.
2. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms The primary viewpoint of the Charter was the dominance of
the rights and the fairness of the judicial system. Two related Charter rights complimented this case:
the right to counsel under s. 10(b) and the right against self–incrimination under s. 11(c). In
addition, as mentioned earlier, the right remain silent was an issue. Majority found that these rights
granted Hebert right to be free of coercion by the police, but also the right to choose whether or not
to give a statement.
3. Right to Remain Silent In this case, the court held that the right to silence was a principle of
fundamental justice (core values within the justice system that must triumph over these rights for the
good of society). Statements cannot be achieved through police deception and silence

The Report On The Undercover Boss Television
POLS 545
Overview of the Organization
The Undercover Boss television show highlighted a variety of different theoretical frameworks
within the six seasons presented on Netflix. In "season six, episode thirteen" the undercover boss in
this episode was Greg Miller. Greg is currently the CEO and owner of the Utah Jazz National
Basketball team in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family business was passed down to Greg from his
father, Larry H. Miller who passed away. The Jazz organization has about 90 members within their
System of Hierarchy (See Appendix A). Every department reports to Randy Rigby (President), and
his report are giving to the CEO. The Utah Jazz mission is the rightful become one of the National
Basketball Association elite teams. The arena was built to restore life within the community of Salt
Lake nevertheless giving the citizen an opportunity to cheer for their team, as well as become

Current Theoretical Framework
Weber Ideal–Type Bureaucracy was identified as the organizational theory operating in the Utah
Jazz Organization. The organization was structured very simple to Weber Ideal Bureaucracy because
it consists of fixed official duties, Hierarchy of authority, systems of rules, technical expertise,
career service, and written documentation (Thompkins, 2005). Fixed official duties were highlighted

We have the emergence of programs such as 'Mr. Big' and fake pawn shops. Mr. Big was an
undercover sting operation where an undercover officer pretends to be the leader of a big criminal
organization. The suspect in question is asked by "Mr. Big" to prove their worthiness to the criminal
organization by confessing to offences they are being investigated for by police (Mr. Big Video).
Mr. Big operations were later found to be inadmissible evidence in a 2014 Supreme Court ruling (R
vs. Hart) since it "shocked the conscience" of the community (Lippert Lecture: Oct 16th). Further
concern was raised when it was believed that the program led to false confessions, tunnel vision by
police, and targeted vulnerable peoples; additionally, in 2017, research conducted on 120 people
found that the shocking rate increased if police tactics seemed unusual and breached the rights of
suspects. This calls for investigation into other questionable practices where people may be
vulnerable.
Fake pawn shops used by police are found to be counterproductive, as they can lead to increases of
crime. It effectively increases crime because it creates the market for stolen merchandise for people
to sell; it can seduce a person to commit an offence that they normally wouldn't commit, and could
open opportunities for undercover police to commit illegal actions themselves (Lippert Lecture: Oct

The Emotional Security of Real–life Television
Real–life television shows of police officers, such as COPS and LAPD: Life on the Beat, offer
viewers an intimate, up–close look at life as seen through the eyes of determined police officers who
patrol our streets. Television cameras capture actual footage of police officials working to expose
and fight drugs, gangs, prostitution, and murder as well as other criminal injustices. As people watch
the episodes, they cheer for the "good guys" and detest the "bad guys", hoping the police will
eventually apprehend the criminals. Society wants to see the criminals arrested because people feel
powerless and scared in a world overflowing with violence. Consequently, real–life television ...

Shows such as Real Stories of the Highway Patrol and COPS serve as an escape for people. Real–
life police television shows offer people the opportunity to escape from their fear of becoming a
victim of crime. For a thirty minute period, viewers can watch a program that shows the police
capturing a wanted felon or suspect. In one particular episode of LAPD: Life on the Beat, "officers
respond to a domestic violence call in the nick of time; mini–market employees help officers chase
down suspected shoplifters; and the police convince a kidnapper to release two children." These
"happy endings" are uncharacteristic of what the media projects. Newspapers, magazines, and news
programs tend to only focus on and reflect the abundance of crime and how it jeopardizes the safety
of Americans. Rarely do they speak of encouraging or inspiring topics. Instead, the top stories on
the daily news generally relate to some sort of ongoing crime. The repetition of these negative
stories convey an underlying theme to viewers that America is dangerous and unsafe. Consequently,
society tends to feel scared and maintains a pessimistic view on their personal safety. Because
society has these anxieties, real–life television shows can capture the attention of discouraged
people. When people see an episode of COPS in which the police bring down drug bosses and bust
car thieves or when an officer in LAPD: Life on the Beat arrests a house burglar, they become

The United States : An Undercover Cop Or A Professional...
It was back when the United States was in the Vietnam War. Set in rural Lexington, Virginia, Larry
Bowman was in his first year of two at the Virginia State Police Academy. Upon graduation he will
become a state trooper and eventually go onto become a plainclothes police officer. As a cadet he
had no idea what he was in for.
Larry was a local guy who grew up in the small town of Blacksburg. His dream was always to be an
undercover cop or a professional athlete. He had a successful High School football career but just

Universities, but because of his poor grades his decision was made for him.

to buy a kilo of cocaine from somebody. They had no information on this person except where to
meet up and what money to use for the pick up.
The two arrived at a run–down restaurant in the middle of a tough looking hood. To their surprise
the directions were simple, just go inside and ask the bartender about the "Snow Queen of
Charlotte." Once they did that, the bartender gave a nod of a his head towards the flight of stairs.
Then Larry and his partner proceeded to and down the stairs where they were met by a huge dude
that they presumed to be the drug dealer. They asked him about the drugs and without saying
anything the huge dude just pointed down the hall. The two cops cautiously walked down the
hallway sweating with nervousness and fear. They knocked on an old rusted door with bullet holes
in it and at this time they never had felt life threatening pressure like this before. Next there was a
loud creaking noise moving closer and closer to the other side of the door. Finally the door opened
and to their surprise there was a big fat woman standing there.

What Is Admissible Evidence In The Hart Trial
For the public, a shocking judgement has arised from the Supreme Court of Canada on Hart's trial–a

Do We Monitor Internet Usage?
"If you have to spy on your kids, something's wrong," says Michael Brody, a child psychiatrist. Is

students. During their undercover investigation, they are in awe as they discover the extent of how
stereotyping has changed from when they were high school students. However, it remains somewhat
the same in the respect that stereotyping still defines everyone within the school. Many people have
an oversimplified and erroneous view of a certain group of people. Stereotypes are typically

positive qualities of the group are overlooked and they are instead categorized by social norms

The Undercover Parent Analysis
In the article, "The Undercover Parent" by Harlan Coben, the author talks to the audience about why
he thinks all parents should watch their children on the internet. Coben uses pathos more than
anything else when trying to reach out to his readers. Coben uses some tactics to get the reader to
trust what he says. One specific tactic is that he acknowledges the reader's feelings. He also
manipulates the reader by reducing the negative feelings that they have when they read this article
and replace them with positive feelings. Then he is finally increasing the fear enough that the reader
will feel obligated to put spyware on their kid's computer so that they can protect them from the
horrible thing found on the internet.
The tactic of acknowledging someone's feelings especially the readers is arguably one of the hardest
tactic that you can use but Coben seems to be great at using it. He tells the reader at first he was
repelled at the invasion of privacy but now he gets it after doing some research. Which is kinda

a good portion of his or her private world" it does kinda scare the reader a little because of how he
phrases some words but then he adds, "that's what spyware is–at least the parental monitoring kind"

technology comes new responsibility" this statement shows us that he feels that we shouldn't

In Harlan Cobens article "The Undercover Parent" (2008), he states that spyware is a good thing to
have on your childs computer, and at first I disagreed. But, after a lot of thought, I now agree with
Cobens point of view. One thing that led me to agree with Coben was when he spoke to parents and
said, "... you're listening for dangerous chatter.." (Par.11) He's right, when spyware is used correctly,
the parents are looking to make sure you're being safe, it's not strangers trying to find information
about you. A parents job is to protect their child at all costs, and that extends to protecting you on
the internet. Even though kids may feel like their privacy has been violated, if used correctly, you
are not invading privacy, only giving protection from dangers unknown to them. Another thing that
led me to side with Coben is when he said, "I want to know whats being said in e–mail and instant
messages and in chat rooms" (Par.7) Coben made a good point, what a ... Show more content on

Summary Of In The Belly Of The Beast
On Paul Solotaroff's "In the Belly of the Beast": A Not So Subtle Argument Against Factory
Farming The dawn of civilization began with mankind mastering a constant source of food. From
humble grains to the mighty cow, raising and harvesting food has been an unchanged profession for
millennia. Ingrained into the fabric of society to the point of the biblical story of Cain and Abel,
where Abel, being a Shepard, offered one of his flock to God as a sacrifice which was preferred over
Cain's grain offering. From biblical times, the progression of technology for herding and rearing
animals had not changed up until the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution led to new
mechanized ways of raising animals but, also losing touch with the natural way of things. This
mechanized way of raising animals is talked about by Paul Solotaroff in his article, "In the Belly of
The Beast" on how cruel and brutal the conditions are for the animals being raised today in factory
farms and how people should act against them. Solotaroff opens the article with Sarah – which isn't
her real name and is made very clear that its important her real name isn't known. Sarah then
describes the scene of the farm she works on in a vivid sense, such as
"the sensory assault of 10,000 pigs in close quarters: the stench of their shit, piled three feet high in
the slanted trenches below; the blood on sows' snouts cut by cages so tight they can't turn around or

Persuasive Essay On Prostitution

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Prostitution "Unicef recently reported that an estimated 1.8 million children enter the sex trade each year. Some are in the United States, but the worst abuses take place in countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Cambodia" (Kristoff), but while saving some life outside is very diverse, some girls go on to be very successful while others return to the life of prostitution. Rescue efforts that are effective in removing children permanently from sexual slavery involve under–cover investigation, and people who are willing to risk their lives. Rescue efforts involve great risk on the part of the rescuer. One of the risks the raids are being up against the police while being a government agent in a way, some police officers are bribed by the owners of the young girls to keep quiet. Kristoff lists that police officers are taking bribes. In the book "Sold" by Nicholas Kristoff he lists Shahanna and Lakshmi having a conversation about police, saying ""Policeman are supposed to stop people like Mumtaz from selling girls," she says. "But she gives this one money each week and he looks' the other way""(Kristoff). The girls are having a conversation about police corruption and how Mumtaz keeps them away. Mumtaz bribes the policeman into being quiet about the illegal selling of girls to keep her safe, this creates a risk for rescuers because they don't know who they can trust. The police are armed and can be dangerous since they are corrupt. Another reason rescuing the girls is risky is because the rescuers must go undercover in the process of organizing these raids on the brothels is the gathering of information and evidence from the undercover agent going into the brothel, especially being in constant danger of a pimp catching, and killing him, while being inside the brothel, the article "Raiding a Brothel in India" said "International Justice Mission, a Washington–based aid group that fights human trafficking, had spotted Chutki while prowling undercover looking for prostituted children" (Kristoff). The undercover agents are in danger when being inside the brothels gathering intel. The agents remain anonymous in reports to protect them for future purposes. Another challenge rescuers face is that even after they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. How To Undercover Alcatraz Imagine it's a cold foggy night your shivering form head to toe outside of that dreaded prison until someone yells "get in the boat it's time to get off this rock" so you get in and never look back at that horrible prison they call "Alcatraz." On the night of June 11/1962 three men tried their luck escaping Alcatraz their names where Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin. The men wanted to do the unthinkable escape Alcatraz. Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers died trying to escape Alcatraz on June 11, 1962. The men died while braving the risky waters of the San Francisco bay. The waters were shark infested and had very strong currents I also found the raft they used was made out of rain leftover coats. The currents alone would have posed a tremendous threat because they were so strong they could tear the flimsy boat to ribbons. Also the bay was very cold and could cause hypothermia in mere seconds. The men could not have possibly lived because of these obstacles in their way. The men had an ingenious plan that was months in the making. The would be escapists had thought of all most everything except a good way to get off the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The entire city of San Francisco was involved in the search for the missing convicts. However the men never reached the main land because after the escape attempt a raft made of rain coats washed ashore on angel island but I did some more research on the subject and found that the raft had sustained major damage to the sides and to the bottom this supports my theory because the men could have fallen out of the raft which is why is washed ashore because it had no additional weight added to it this making it light enough to float. Another piece of evidence was on the day right after the angel island incident when a body surfaced in the bay but it was mauled beyond recognition but could have easily been one of the inmates who ... • 3. The Undercover Parent Summary ¨The Undercover Parent¨ by Harlan Coben, published in an online newspaper (NewYorkTimes.com, March 16,2008), claims that the Internet is dangerous for kids. Harlan Coben explained how spyware could keep track of our kids, but it also invades the sons' and daughters' privacy. He also claims that parents should have conversations about their concerns with teens, and let them know spyware is a possibility. Coben started with an anecdote about spyware, presenting the topic, acknowledging hesitation, recognizing how parents feel, countering parental arguments, stating counterarguments, argues and claims about eavesdropping, suggests that parents should use spyware, and encourages the parents to use it. The author's purpose is to warn the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of kids met someone online and decides to meet them somewhere, which is dangerous. In my own experience, I've been calling and chatting strangers online. I've been making a lot of Internet friends online even though, I know in myself that it's dangerous. There have been a lot of reports about strangers killing kids or some victim that they have been deceived or have deceived online. Spyware is one of the ways prevent the killing incidents and it is also a way to prevent our children seeing or clicking through the harmful sites. A kid researching might accidentally click on a site that has a lot of malicious pictures, adult content, and some other stuff that the kid shouldn't see. In paragraph 8, Coben said, ¨First, we've all read about the young boy unknowingly conversing with a pedophile or the girl who was cyber bullied to the point where she committed suicide.¨ I agree on this part because I've been cyber bullied once. Some guy posted bad things about me on Facebook and I knew that everyone could see it. Luckily, my friends didn't believe it and everyone reported him. • 4. Goat Occurrence Crimes The Kind of Person She Is A missing goat occurrence crime's case began the evening of January 25th, 2002. The event still shocks people when they hear about it. Who could ever do such a thing? There is a very complex formula that helped the police finalize the suspects. The events of what happened are to be revealed on this edition of Jaylee Weekly; however, not all is revealed at this moment. This is because, although he may be dead, Goat still needs personal privacy. The following suspects have been proven innocent: Johnny the Apple Seed, Haley Galey the Snail, and Bridgette the Hippo. They all had record proof of their whereabouts on that wretched January night. Still yet to be deciphered, the case has been focused on three yet to be proven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People like to think she would never do such a thing, because she is a young girl. A lot of the time, some information will lead people to believe otherwise. Georgentina had very vague motives and very little evidence against her, one being her distaste for Goat after a dispute that Goat caused with her, this made her already strong distaste for him way stronger. She may be a very petty human being, perhaps. Maybe she wanted to prove to someone how "strong" she is. Evidence provided showed that Georgentina was having an affair with Goat's only son and only child. Goat's disapproval ruined the relationship and the gator may have held a grudge against the goat. Maybe Georgentina wanted him back and thought this was the only way to go about it. More evidence provided shows the 25– year–old female has anger issues, causing fights at many bars and with anyone who dares to go against anything the woman says. She has an inferiority complex and also must always be right.Another motive for the young woman is the fact that she found out Goat was an abusive father toward her boyfriend, she screamed tons of obscenities at him, so she may be vengeful for her ex–boyfriend. However, she usually got along well with Goat after they split and she has been proven to be an overall good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Undercover Parent Every day teenagers use the internet, whether it's on their phones or on the computers at school or at home. Their lives are practically centered around it. They're connecting with each other on social media such as: Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and even online video games, and this has is benefits, but it can also have some negative and possibly dangerous situations. The internet is not a safe haven for anyone or anything. In the article "The Undercover Parent" the author, Harlan Coben, makes the argument that spyware is alright to be used by parents on their kids computers as long as the parents are using the software responsibly. I agree with Coben's statements because of his solid arguments of dangerous conversations, privacy, and bullying. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One argument that many people mention is that spyware is an invasion of privacy. As a teenager myself, I value the whole idea of privacy. The use of spyware to monitor your child's computer is on the borderline of invasion of that privacy; however the use of none of it is on the borderline and even beyond the point negligence. Coben mentions this idea of privacy on the internet that, "One of the most popular arguments against spyware is the claim that you are reading your teenager's every thought, that in today's world, a computer is the little key–locked diary of the past. But posting thoughts on the Internet isn't the same thing as hiding them under your mattress."(Coben 1). In reality, there is no real form of privacy on the internet. What you post there will forever be there and can be seen by anyone no matter how many passwords or locks you put on it. However most teens and kids would still over look this idea and consider the use of spyware an invasion of their privacy, and it can be. If you are monitoring every single conversation your child has, then that's crossing the line and invading the privacy of your child. There is a difference between being responsible and being nosy. You as a parent are there to look out for dangerous chatter or possible conversations that look and sound concerning. You are not there to listen in on what teacher they hate, or who they have a crush on, or if they're crying over how a book ended. However, not monitoring at all is practically a form of neglect. Being a parent it is your responsibility to protect your child from the possible dangers of the world, whether it is in real life or online. Providing no form of protection or even checking on your child's activities online can put them at high risk of getting hurt whether it is emotionally or physically. The dangers are out there and it is worth crossing the border of privacy in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of The Undercover Parent In "The Undercover Parent" Harlan Coben thinks that parents should use spyware to keep tabs on what their kids do on the internet. According to Coben, there are two reasons to put spyware on your child's computer. One, parents need to protect their kids from cyberbullying and secondly, everyone already can see what your children do on the internet. Coben also says that children will find other ways to avoid the spyware such as using cellphones; but, Coben says, cell phones are better than computers. Coben deems that parents should tell their kids that they have installed a spyware in the computer. Coben makes some great arguments, but I do not agree with him. Cyber bullying has become a great obstacle in today's world. Coben suggests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Medusa Files Civil War Jones spent the entire day reading the Medusa Files, most of which contained reports about a possible civil war coming based on racial hatred. Preston had left a lot of interesting information regarding the history of the files and its long–term implications. The Medusa Files were old, having been started a long time ago by other agents as far back as the late 1990s, who either ran out of leads or found nothing but dead ends. Preston noted that despite the lack of good leads in the case, racial tension in America was constantly on the rise, and getting worst. The Medusa Files were left on the backburner for a while and essentially a cold case for years to come as sheer conjecture without any solid proof. Until an intrepid young agent ... And yet, he had to go see for himself. Now he's missing or dead." "He did what he had to do. It's our job. Encountering danger is an occupational hazard." "I agree." "The question to answer is: What are they up to? Are they building an army on foreign soil and gathering an international invasion force? How can a small or large white supremacist group of any kind, plot to take over the United States in the first place? And what connection does South America play 6,000 miles away?" Jones said somewhat exasperated. "That's the puzzle. It makes no sense. But not all is lost. Katy is working on that angle right now." "She is? How is she doing that?" Jones asked rather curiously. The Undercover Parent Summary Harlen Coben in an editorial titled "The Undercover Parent" (March 16, 2008) claims that parents should have conversations about their concerns with teens, and let them know how spyware is a possibility.Should parents of teens and tweens go undercover? Harlen Coben, the author is trying to make parents have conversations with their teens and tween about internet safety, and let them know if spyware is a possibility. I agree but in some opinions i disagree with Coben and his prediction. If you put spyware on your computer, you have the ability to log every keystroke your child makes and thus a good portion of his or her private world. That's what spyware is at least the parental monitoring kind. You don't have to be an expert to put it on your computer. Harlen Coben is saying that the internet is not a safe place everything you put on there stays even if you delete it it stays on there forever. Harlen Coben is telling parents that they need to watch out for their kids because the internet is a very dangerous place parents don't want their kids going out with someone they met online because they're a stranger and could be really weird. The reason I really agree is because Coben is showing how good spyware could be because it could tell you what your kids are doing and see if it's bad and even see who they're even talking because they could be talking to some crazy and weird people. Another good thing about spyware is that you could put a tracking device in their cell phones to see if they're going in a bad neighborhood. If I was a parent I would consider using spyware just to make sure that my children are ok and not in danger. • 9. 1984 vs Today Essay 1984, a novel by George Orwell, represents a dystopian society in which the people of Oceania are surveilled by the government almost all the time and have no freedoms. Today, citizens of the United States and other countries are watched in a similar way. Though different technological and personal ways of keeping watch on society than 1984, today's government is also able to monitor most aspects of the people's life. 1984 might be a dystopian society, but today's condition seems to be moving towards that controlling state, where the citizens are surveilled by the government at all times. The 1984 community provided many ways to surveill its citizens, one being The Thought Police The Thought Police were undercover operatives who hid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though the consequences of citizen's actions through technology today are not as severe or are non punishable, they do not take the government's surveillance as seriously as the citizens of Oceania did in 1984. One NSA system can reach about 75% of all US Internet traffic, communications by foreigners and Americans (Gorman n. pag.). The US government's defense to surveillance claims is that the justification is National Security (Calamur n. pag.)., and this may be true, but the question of the freedom to privacy ratio, as a free nation, is still undecided. One way surveillance is now even more accessible is due to Google Glass. "With Google Glass, nobody's pointing a camera... phone. You no longer know if you're being filmed... an unspoken social rule is being violated" (Brown 42). and gives the government the ability to see from the point of view of anyone. With most every person you meet having quick access to some sort of recordable technology, it is easy to have your actions recorded or documented without your knowledge. The information can be easily spread around the world without your knowing or permission with just a simple touch. As said before, ".....an unspoken social rule is being violated" (Brown 42), taking away the sense of privacy and security felt by many Americans. The French Connection Essay The French Connection Daniel Cabezas CJ 101, Introduction to Criminal Justice Adrian Bordoni October 14, 2010 The French Connection New York City Cops The NYPD is one of the finest law enforcements when it comes to containing drugs, except one, heroin. The business of drugs exponentially grows to new heights every year. Around the early 70's, heroine was being brought over to the united states at very high rates. New York City was a famous shipping ground for heroine, which made times tough for the law enforcement. At one point in history a person could find all sorts of dirty businesses in New York, whether it's pimping, selling drugs or other malicious crimes. In the 70's before there was much technology to help and crack down these major dealers, the police would have to deal with it by purely just evidence. These cases always have to be dealt with patience. Buddy and Popeye tail a Lincoln that eventually parks on a side street. Just like in real life they wait and wait to see if anything occurs and surely does, at 4:10 A.M they both catch two thieves trying to strip the Lincoln. The Lincoln is towed back to a garage where it is searched for evidence or in this case drugs. They search everywhere from the trunk, under the hood and in the seating but come up empty. They start to get a bit impatient but do not give up and eventually do find the drugs. It turned out to be in the car's rocker panels underneath the doors. From this they have all the evidence they need to put these mobsters in prison once and for all. As in reality a big case such as this will never be solved in a couple of days, it could take weeks, months or even years. The French Connection is one of the most realistic police movies that I have ever seen and teaches a lot about cops. There are some stereotypes as Popeye who plays the tough cop role and at times could be racist, while his partner buddy is the more patient and quiet one than his loud and obnoxious partner. Teens who find themselves drawn to social media, and brought down by its outcome. They're not sure of what lies behind the screen of their computer. • 12. Ethical Considerations Of Undercover Policing The Ethical Considerations of Undercover Policing Candace A. Goldsmith University of North Texas There are those who would argue that undercover policing is unethical, however it is a central part of intelligence led policing. Undercover policing, sometimes referred to as covert policing is where officers go undercover, often as criminals in order to gain intel, evidence, get convictions and make arrest. However many would argue that this practice is unethical because it requires police officers to lie and engage in criminal activity. This paper will not take a stance on whether or not the practice of covert policing is ethical, but will instead examine the arguments and problems surrounding undercover policing. Which include; unchecked power, the use of deceit, authorized criminality, infringement of privacy rights, psychological stress placed on officers and its overall effectiveness. Isolation can lead to unchecked power and abuses of authority. One of the characteristics of covert policing is the isolation from other uniformed officers. This is a point of contingency for many scholars as it is believed this type of isolation insulates undercover officers from the consequences of abusing their positions. • 15. Examples Of Undercover Racism Undercover Racism I believe that racism is a part of human nature and has always existed. Many people use the word racism, but most only know a small fragment of what the word means. Most people believe that racism is overt, and is solely when one group or person uses racial stereotypes, slurs, or actions that exclude a certain group or person based on skin color. Instead, I believe that over many centuries this definition of racism has changed into something more covert and insidious. As a result, it is more difficult to define racism, but we can show how it works in different areas of life. Some of the different subsets of racism are: interpersonal racism, systematic racism, cultural racism, and internalized racism. Interpersonal racism usually deals with a person's belief or behaviors towards another person. This type of racism is the easiest to notice because it is mostly done out in the open. Verbal abuse, hate crimes, slander, and libel all fall underneath the category of interpersonal racism. In some cases, this type of racism is harder to detect and therefore goes unnoticed. One example of hidden interpersonal racism is when a minority is silenced for speaking out about its experiences with racism. There are even more subtle instances such as a person of one race refusing to make eye contact with a person of another. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Internalized racism is when a race has been oppressed and discouraged for so long that it starts to accept and believe what it has been constantly told. The Ethical Considerations Of Undercover Essay Undercover Ethics Sheila Capers Saint Leo University Abstract We teach our children to follow the law and never tell a law and yet there is a field of work that requires deception and illegal activities in order to succeed. This line of work is within the scope of the law. It is mob related or connected to any other line of criminal activity that may jump into a person's head, but rather is a part of law enforcement. Undercover work takes its toll on all involved. The ethical considerations involved are tremendous. What are acceptable activities for the undercover officer is a grey area that creates a backlash of debate on a regular basis. Is it acceptable for an undercover officer to smoke weed or shoplift in order to maintain their cover? What about more violent crimes such as armed robbery? How far should an undercover go to protect their cover? What about if they learn about a terrorist attack or a bombing plan? Should they report such plans or maintain their cover at all costs? Key words: undercover, ethics, deceit, police Undercover officers are a special breed all their own within the law enforcement field. Officers are removed from their normal lives and recreated over and over again for the benefit of society as a whole. Schmidt was a less popular honor roll student where as Jenko was a popular jock who lacked the necessary intelligence to get through high school. After graduation, both Schmidt and Jenko joined the police force, which sparked their unexpected friendship. Jenko saw the benefit of befriending the more intelligent Schmidt and Schmidt noticed the athletics of Jenko to use to his benefit. After graduating from the police academy, the pair fall short of being considered quality police officers. Luckily for them, they are assigned to an undercover unit on Jump Street. Their task is to infiltrate a drug dealer's operation and to find who is distributing synthetic drugs to high school students. During their undercover investigation, they are in awe as they discover the extent of how stereotyping has changed from when they were high school students. However, it remains somewhat the same in the respect that stereotyping still defines everyone within the school. Many people have an oversimplified and erroneous view of a certain group of people. Stereotypes are typically associated with having negative connotations of a particular group of people. In many occasions, positive qualities of the group are overlooked and they are instead categorized by social norms created by stereotypes. Stereotyping affects everyone, whether it is through the discrimination of age, race, gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Undercover Parent Analysis In the article, "The Undercover Parent" by Harlan Coben, the author talks to the audience about why he thinks all parents should watch their children on the internet. Coben uses pathos more than anything else when trying to reach out to his readers. Coben uses some tactics to get the reader to trust what he says. One specific tactic is that he acknowledges the reader's feelings. He also manipulates the reader by reducing the negative feelings that they have when they read this article and replace them with positive feelings. Then he is finally increasing the fear enough that the reader will feel obligated to put spyware on their kid's computer so that they can protect them from the horrible thing found on the internet. The tactic of acknowledging someone's feelings especially the readers is arguably one of the hardest tactic that you can use but Coben seems to be great at using it. He tells the reader at first he was repelled at the invasion of privacy but now he gets it after doing some research. Which is kinda weird because he never sites anything in his paragraph so how would we know if he actually did any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this Coben tries to get the reader to think the idea of spyware is a good thing and not so bad as it sounds. It sometimes helps reduce negative feelings by explaining what spyware is and how easy it is to get. When Coben says, "you have the ability to log every keystroke your child makes and thus a good portion of his or her private world" it does kinda scare the reader a little because of how he phrases some words but then he adds, "that's what spyware is–at least the parental monitoring kind" this reassure the reader. "Am I suggesting eavesdropping on every conversation? No. With new technology comes new responsibility" this statement shows us that he feels that we shouldn't eavesdrop on every conversation Which makes the reader think that now it won't be such a time ... • 37. Undercover Parent In Harlan Cobens article "The Undercover Parent" (2008), he states that spyware is a good thing to have on your childs computer, and at first I disagreed. But, after a lot of thought, I now agree with Cobens point of view. One thing that led me to agree with Coben was when he spoke to parents and said, "... you're listening for dangerous chatter.." (Par.11) He's right, when spyware is used correctly, the parents are looking to make sure you're being safe, it's not strangers trying to find information about you. A parents job is to protect their child at all costs, and that extends to protecting you on the internet. Even though kids may feel like their privacy has been violated, if used correctly, you are not invading privacy, only giving protection from dangers unknown to them. Another thing that led me to side with Coben is when he said, "I want to know whats being said in e–mail and instant messages and in chat rooms" (Par.7) Coben made a good point, what a ... I fear that one day she will give away information that she shouldn't. I believe having spyware on her computer would be good to keep her from risking everything, just to talk to strangers. Someone else I know likes to have "online boyfriends" that she has never met in person. I don't think she understands the dangers of talking to strangers online. She tends to unknowingly give out a lot of private information about herself, and sometimes ever her friends, without really knowing she is doing it. While there are pros and cons of spyware, I believe the pros outweigh the cons. Kids don't always make the best decisions and especially not online, where they feel safest. If you don't monitor your child it could end badly. It's better to be safe then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lot of people, including myself, are under the false perception that business owners just set prices to be whatever they want and that higher prices mean higher quality, but this is not the case at all. In fact, the location of the coffeeshop plays more of a role in price than overall quality because location is a determining factor in how much a person is willing to pay. This ... • 39. Summary Of In The Belly Of The Beast On Paul Solotaroff's "In the Belly of the Beast": A Not So Subtle Argument Against Factory Farming The dawn of civilization began with mankind mastering a constant source of food. From humble grains to the mighty cow, raising and harvesting food has been an unchanged profession for millennia. Ingrained into the fabric of society to the point of the biblical story of Cain and Abel, where Abel, being a Shepard, offered one of his flock to God as a sacrifice which was preferred over Cain's grain offering. From biblical times, the progression of technology for herding and rearing animals had not changed up until the industrial revolution. The industrial revolution led to new mechanized ways of raising animals but, also losing touch with the natural way of things. This mechanized way of raising animals is talked about by Paul Solotaroff in his article, "In the Belly of The Beast" on how cruel and brutal the conditions are for the animals being raised today in factory farms and how people should act against them. Solotaroff opens the article with Sarah – which isn't her real name and is made very clear that its important her real name isn't known. Sarah then describes the scene of the farm she works on in a vivid sense, such as "the sensory assault of 10,000 pigs in close quarters: the stench of their shit, piled three feet high in the slanted trenches below; the blood on sows' snouts cut by cages so tight they can't turn around or lie sideways; the racking cries of ...
