Ballet Influence On American Culture
As a cultural continuity from the sixteenth century through the twenty–first century, ballet has
influenced politics, economies, and cultures globally. Society is an organized group of persons
associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other
purposes; Ballet pertaining to society organizes people together for various purposes. Beginning in
the sixteenth century ballet began to impact various aspects within every society it was introduced
to and used in such as economics, politics, culture, innovations, and art within Europe, especially
France.
Sixteenth–century France contained civil and religious conflicts, so the French kings drew from the
deep traditions of Italian Renaissance thoughts about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1770s ballet was still contributing to society through politics, Noverre who staged thirty–
eight fresh ballets in Vienna for the empress, did such an exceptional job that he was then given the
task of training and being ballet master of the future queen of France, Marie Antoinette. Ballet was
also cut from political ties as well, no longer having royal support some theaters resulted in closure.
In Milan, however, ballet was not yet a political ambition, but the cultural identity. The seating itself
represented the social hierarchies, having the most coveted boxes occupied by nobility. As a
constant theme for any high production art, the box office proved to be an economic need and a

Carol King Musical Analysis
The play that I went to see was Beautiful: The Carol King Musical. I attended opening night of this
play on Tuesday, February 21st of this year. This musical is about the true and remarkable story of
her uprising career. Carol started off as a song writer when she was only a teen writing with her
future husband, Gerry Goffin. The play is about an extraordinary person who battles everyday
issues, but ultimately overcomes the odds and adversities thrown at her. With her talent in music and
singing; Carol King went on to have one of the most successful solo acts in music history. King's
story is truly inspiring and this play attributes to her legacy not just as an artist but also a person.
The play's genre is musical theatre because singing and dancing are essential parts of the play. The
director's purpose of this play was to tell in great detail the life of American artist Carol King.
The play was performed at the lovely Peace Center. The Peace Center, which is a great fine arts
theatre in downtown Greenville. Has a stage that is known as a Proscenium stage with large curtains
from floor to ceiling. The sets varied from an office setting with a piano that was where Carol and
her husband would write music in the couple's home. The interesting thing about the set was that it
all was centered on and around her piano. The props were mainly the piano which could be seen in
every scene. In the office the props also consisted of a desk and some other different items you

What Is Slam Poetry
SOUTH AFRICAN SLAM POETRY
Healing and entertaining people through rhythmic storytelling are the corner stone of slam poetry.
Slam poetry is a type of type poetry where people read their poems without props, costumes or
music (A Brief Guide to slam poetry. 2004). It is usually original work that talks about themes and
subject that people can relate to. Invented in the 1980s by a Chicago construction worker named
March Smith, it started as a form of storytelling and they used rhythm to make it entertaining (What
is slam poetry? .2013). The essay is about a South African poet Koleka Putuma within details about
biographical background of the poet's life, body of work, performance style and analysis of her
poem that will be provided.

Poem tittle: I am a performer
I am a performer, perfectly portraying the pain
Of people who are perpetrated, I dance for the dark man
Struggled, I sing with my voice so loud for the heroes of my land.
I feel the pain they felt as I say what they said and do what they did.
Why are you amazed by the way I curse so confidently?
Forgive me I'm just a performer perfectly portraying the pain of those who were patronized.
I am dressed in the spirit of men and women who exist in imaginative
People's minds, just a character, even sometimes I feel not real but it's the love that keeps me
believing, am I not the gift that keeps on giving? These steps I walk on stage have meaning.
Sometimes I swear at God, forgive me if I'm sinning but I'm just a performer who perfectly
Portray the pride of the people who perished.
Reciting the world's feelings, their sadness
I keep healing, see I'm not always sad and angry sometimes I leave them laughing because I am a
comedian. Am not amazing? I hold the Earth's emotions I say words that move nations, sometimes I
am silent but they can hear me, because the pandemonium in my heart says everything. Can't you
see I am a performer perfectly portraying

Pseodolus And The Fourth Wall
Pseodolus and the Fourth Wall
Leigh's statement that 'The edge of the stage is not an invisible boundary over which the actor must
never step but a garden wall across which the actor gossips and flirts with the public as if they were
neighbours' seems to have captured the very essence of audience acknowledgement that is so
present in the play Pseudolus. Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems particularly
bothered by any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and subtle character
acknowledgement of the audience. Indeed the notion that the fourth wall is some sort of
impenetrable barrier between performer and audience seems absurd when one examines the aims of
theatre and performance as a whole, and Pseudolus circumvents and breaches this supposed barrier
with a variety of means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is backed up by Livy's claim that "in the old days all poets agebant, produced and acted in their
own plays" and if it is true then the scene where Pseudolus speaks of 'playing the poet' is vaguely
autobiographical in nature as Plautus – who has taken on the role of Pseudolus to achieve the goal of
entertaining the audience – now claims to be taking on a new role, which is in fact his original role,
in order to enable his role as Pseudolus to be enacted to full effect. This sort of referencing of events
that occur outside the play – such as the nature of Plautus' true identity– is never stated outright in
the play, but one cannot ignore the fact that the play behaves as though it were aware of such
knowledge. In the context of Leigh's garden fence analogy, this would be the equivalent of the
neighbour winking over the fence in a silent joke at the secret you share, without ever actually
mentioning

Tap Dance History
Dance is an art form that is interpreted into many different styles around the world. Whether it is
used for a traditional ceremony or just for the sake of it, dance is something that brings people
together. Dance is done with music or you are creating the dance yourself which is what I enjoy
doing and that would be tap. You are the one creating these beats and percussions while dancing.
Even with this prior knowledge with dance styles like tap and ones similar to it, I like to learn about
different things that are not known as much, foreign dance styles. Because of this, I have chosen tap
as my familiar dance form and Ardah as my unfamiliar dance form. Tap dancing is form of dance

Africans also used this type of dance to communicate with others. They used to do this type of
dance to express their religious beliefs. In the 11 years that I have been dancing, the greatest part of
my attention has been spent on the development and control of the variety of tones that can be
produced by Taps of the heels and soles on the floor and against each other (Knowles 14). Tap dance
began to appear in stage dance through shows in the1890's. After the civil war, many minstrel shows
were created which became into the Broadway musical and tap dance. Movies were then using tap
dances and they were also using tap dances in musicals. The creation of jazz music also influenced
tap dance by creating styles that used a lot of improvisation. Tap dancing was used more and more
in shows and performances. Back then, Slaves would have competitions on plantations and the
owners would place bets on the best performers. In 1739, a law was passed that the slaves were not
allowed to use drums at all. Since they were no longer allowed, they started using their feet against
other things to make noise. The

Research Paper On Slam Poetry
Slam poetry
Slam poetry is one of the many forms of art where people express their feelings by writing them
down and sharing them with other people. In 1984 Smith a constuction worker was hosting poetry
reading in a jazz club in Chicago. Mac made up a gimmick to bring life to his open–mic formal; his
idea was to match up poets against each other as in a fight. It was in 1986 when slam poetry was
born and has been going on ever since. Accoding to the Oxford dictionary (1994 : 194) slam poetry
is a competition where poets read, recite, and perform original work alone or as a team before an
audience who act as judges they are judged at a scale of 0–10.
The following essay is about slam poetry and will provide a brief biography on Maya Wegerif a
South African slam poety. The main focus will be on the poet's body of work and performance style.
Lastly I will analize one of Wegerif's peom. I will also include my own slam poem.
Maya is a young mixed race South Africa woman born in Limpopo in a township called Shirley 21
years ago. Wegerif started writing at the age of 11. Her first published poem was titled Life. At an
early stage Wegerif was writing something in her diary, unfortunately she cannot remember. Her
mother found it read it and submitted it into a poetry competition which started her journey in
poetry. Seyirma (2013)points out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Charlie Parker Essay
The recording I listened to was the poem "Charlie Parker" performed by Jack Kerouac and Steve
Allen. This performance is accompanied by a musical rendition that relates to the poem's content, as
the poem is about musician Charlie Parker. Kerouac is performing this poem in memoriam of the
musician. Kerouac describes Charlie Parker in an affluent manner to attest to his musical reverence,
such as calling him "a great musician". The sound of the poem and the meaning are greatly
intertwined with one another. The sound is musical and whimsical in nature, as the music playing
compliments the poem performance. The meaning of the poem is about the great musician Charlie
Parker and a testament to his life. So the music that accompanies this meaningful ... Show more

I thought that Kerouac's musical tone of voice accompanying the music playing really gave the
experience of listening to a song rather than a poetry performance. It had a nice flow to the
performance that added to the songlike feel to this performance when listening to it. I especially
heard this tone in lines, such as "we blop and we plop". The use of sound imagery helps in relating
the songlike feel to poetry to the actual musician who is at the center of the poem's content and
meaning. This is not the only imagery seen in the poem, as there are multiple points in the poem.
Kerouac uses imagery as a way to immerse in the poem to give the reader mental images about
Charlie Parker. This can be seen at the beginning of the poem when Kerouac is describing Charlie
Parker, such as the line "Charlie Parker looked like Buddha." Kerouac also used imagery to describe
the music of Charlie Parker as well. Kerouac describes the experience of listening to Charlie Parker
play in lines such as "like the perfect cry of some wild gang at a jam session Wail! Whap!". This
type of imagery gives the feeling of being at one of the great musician's performances. This poetry
performance was one full of meaning and emotion. The music helped assist in creating this
experience of emotion and meaning to the poem's content. The imagery also stands out in this
performance to help create the vision of emotion and

Analysis Of Edward Albee's The Sandbox
In Betty Keller's Tea Party, Alma, a seventy–five year old woman, and Hester Evans, a seventy–nine
year old woman are sisters that share a home together. In their old age and due to Hester being a
cripple, the Evans sisters are confined to their home almost all the time. The small amount of
excitement they do get, is from the neighborhood paperboy that they occasionally get to speak to. It
is made quite obvious at the beginning of the drama, that the two women are starved of attention
and company, it is made so obvious by their eagerness and restlessness about the fact that the
paperboy will be arriving soon. While Alama watches the boy make his way down the street the two
try to decide what story they tell the young lad when he arrives at their porch. While throwing out
ideas they argue about the details about the story and whether the story is appropriate for the young
man to hear. Unfortunately the paperboy must not have time for the old timers stories because as he
passes he throws the paper on the porch and continues on without checking with the Evans sisters
for collecting outgoing bills. So the Evans sisters are forced to wait for their next opportunity for
attention. In Edward Albee's The Sandbox the characters are to treat each other with dry and little
emotion as possible. The play itself is about the performance of a very poor play. The two
characters, Mommy and Daddy are bringing Grandma to peacefully pass away by a quiet beach
side. Throughout the play the

Sardono Essay
The Physical Turn and Improvisation in the Seventies
Cultural imperialism, in a form of New York's World Expo in 1964, stands on the background of this
part of the story. A young Javanese dancer, Sardono W. Kusumo was a member of the Indonesian
dancer contingent for the expo. Extending his stay in the city that had become an adopted home or,
depending on your viewpoint, a thrift store of world culture, there he met another young Indonesian,
just a couple years his senior, an emerging poet cum theatre artist by the name of Rendra. The
following six–months of his informal residency would be brief and memorable for Sardono and its
significance to Indonesian performance field would continue to resonate until a few decades later.
In 2003, I was involved in organizing a gathering of a hundred performance artists from all around
Indonesia, a rare week of retreat for a convivial sharing, and workshop ... Show more content on

For Sardono, not the more cynical of the two, Jean's workshop was basically a hatha yoga session.
While the workshop's main contents were not new in their respective performance vocabulary,
Sardono was illuminated by Erdman's ability to appropriate the approach with a contemporary
framework that he found useful for developing a performance work. In the workshop, Erdman also
introduced them to her principle approach of improvisation. It is important to note here that
Rendra's introduction to the notion of improvisation as a modern theatre vocabulary might occurred
earlier, especially during his time studying at the American Dramatic Arts. Nonetheless, Sardono
underlines how Erdman taught her improvisation method systematically, which encouraged him to
think more about abstraction, imagination, spatial contact and bodily deconstruction, as he would
eventually develop as his working method in the seventies

Rap Vs Rap Genre
Although millions of people listen to music everyday, many people never take notice of how many
genres exist throughout the world. Two genres that take popular notice in the music industry, that
may be considered as "opposite sides of the coin", the genres can easily be compared and
contrasted, no matter which compare or contrast side is favored. The Broadway genre, which is
notably alongside musical theatrics, or simply theatrics in general, is not only for the sophisticated
population in it's essence, but is even favored by adolescents of all ages. Due to the variety of
musicals that have been created throughout the past one hundred years, there is a musical for any
type of person, no matter how much or how little they favor the Broadway genre. The rap genre,
however, can seem extremely different from most genres of music. Nevertheless, if a person finds
an area of the rap genre that comes to their own liking, they may come to the realization that not all
of it is the same, which can be true. Typically, rap, which stands for "rhythm and poetry", has a fast
paced, recurring beat, with a vocalist rhythmically speaking patterned lyrics throughout a song. In
many popular songs today, rap can take up an entire song, or simply be put in a single verse in
another vocalist's performance. Although the rap genre and Broadway genre are slightly similar in
terms of the music production, they are, however, significantly different in the way that they are
performed, and the reasons why

After the Gujarat riots, which was a three–day period of inter–communal violence between the
Hindus and Muslims in the western Indian state of Gujarat. A group of students came together and

liberation that conserve India's social economic division.

A Relationship With A Woman
I was 50 years old and hadn 't been to bed with a woman for four years. I had no women friends. I
looked at them as I passed them on the streets or wherever I saw them, but I looked at them without
yearning and with a sense of futility. I masturbated regularly, but the idea of having a relationship
with a woman–– even on non–sexual terms––was beyond my imagination. I had a 6 year old
daughter born out of wedlock. She lived with her mother and I paid child support. I had been
married years before at the age of 35. That marriage lasted two and one half years. My wife
divorced me. I had been in love only once. She had died of acute alcoholism. She died at 48 when I
was 38. My wife had been 12 years younger than I. I believe that she too is dead now, although I 'm
not sure. She wrote me a long letter each Christmas for 6 years after the divorce. I never responded.
. . . I 'm not sure when I first saw Lydia Vance. It was about 6 years ago and I had just quit a twelve
year job as a postal clerk and was trying to be a writer. I was terrified and drank more than ever. I
was attempting my first novel. I drank a pint of whiskey and two six packs of beer each night while
writing. I smoked cheap cigars and typed and drank and listened to classical music on the radio until
dawn. I set a goal of ten pages a night but I never knew until the next day how many pages I had

We all enjoyed snapping along with McCurdy and the beat. The flute and violin created a beautiful
harmony. Mood 10: Bird in Orbit had a violent and explosive beat. The bass and drums were more
pronounced in this set. The tempo was up and this mood was very loud.
Mood 11: Jazztet Muted had a fast tempo that created a dynamic feel. The flute would call and the
drums would respond. The use of call and respond made the piece feel very well put together. This
mood mainly focused on a smooth piano solo and a flute solo. Mood 12: Show Fare, Please was the
last mood for the night. The rhythm section maintained a steady tempo. The audience, including

My Career Path
There are many career paths to be taken when trying to decide what would best suit my skillset, but
when you know your personality type it narrows those multitude of career paths down to what most
others with your personality would be successful at in the job world. The personality I was listed as
is an ESFP, people who have my personality typically go into the entertainment franchise. Seeing as
how I have always wanted to be a musician and write music I have chosen my career path as a

challenging to be successful as a performer which encourages me to keep writing so that one day I

everyone listens to and enjoys with the same passion and love. Being a performer you have many
job duties but the most important and essential are entertaining guests and interacting with them,
keeping audiences alive and making sure that they enjoy every showcase of acts, and of course
striking poses with customers for taking of pictures. Performers always know how to present
themselves to an adoring crowd, what to say to keep them involved and wanting more. The material
a performer uses for their show must be flashy and continual, to keep audiences entertained, but also
relevant to the situation and be able to feel emotion from the crowd so they can provide the right

Ballet played an enormous role in this beautiful artistic story of The Swan, for the very simple
reason that every movement and every gesture signifies a different experience for someone who is

ballerina being able to transform herself into a swan, but about death, with the swan simply being a
metaphor for that. Watching Svetlana Zakharova performing The Swan she really used a

My Senior Year Of High School
My senior year of high school and I still felt like a freshman. The typical freshman vibe of not

Due to the fact that I couldn't find any friends for the first two years. I thought that I would find a

As a last ditch effort to be more outgoing in high school, I decided to go to the black history

Use Of Lighting In Epic Theatre
Epic Theatre
Lighting in Epic Theatre was used to create a non–naturalistic environment. In realistic theatre the
lighting is used to establish the place, time, season etc, but in epic theatre it was used to keep the
world as far away from reality as possible, with lighting not reflecting the world in which the
audience live in. Bright, white lighting is often used to establish the non–naturalistic nature of epic
theatre worlds as well as being un–emotional as colorful lighting would illicit emotional responses
from the audience and ultimately wouldn't alienate and illicit analysis from the audience. It also

study both her role in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give
the reader an idea of the plays "high level of artistic creation", and also illustrate some of the many
witty double meanings and underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce.
Although Guillemette appears in only four of the ten scenes of the Farce (according to the scene
division in the modern French translation), she is much more ... Show more content on

In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of
the drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and
Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would
be more quick–witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to
completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I
and III, Guillemette's cleverness is clear.
So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and,
unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character
with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is
no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and
the audience. Such a character encourages the audience to feel more involved in the play and to see
it as a reflection of their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who plays this role, and it is
in this way that she is most important. At no point does she address the audience

PROMPT #10: DISCUSS THE ROLE OF EQUIVOCATION IN THE PLAY
Macbeth Essay Exam Prompt 10
Shakespeare was well–known for the many writings he composed throughout his lifetime. He was
coherent in his writing allowing for his message to be clear, but he used equivocations to add
several aspects into his writings, such as in Macbeth. Shakespeare used equivocations throughout
the play to establish aspects like dramatic irony, a dark mood, and deception of the main characters,
and satire. These aspects are what made the play unique and why the play of Macbeth has intrigued
many for thousands of years. Macbeth is intriguing for readers because most people have the
knowledge that by the end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, before his death, Macbeth comes to the realization that the witches have used ambiguous
language to conceal the truth from him. He recognizes that his mother did have him naturally, and
that Birnam Wood did actually move up the hill while soldiers cut down boughs to shield
themselves during their attack. Ludicrously, Macbeth was framed for his obliteration. In addition,
one of the witches did equivocate by telling Macbeth to "Beware Macduff!", but he was too
amaurotic to realize that in between all of the deception that he was being told the

into spoken word poetry. Throughout her examination of her journey she talks about how she
started, how she helps others with starting, and how she realizes that she was meant to be a spoken
word poet. At the end she performs one last poem to give more background about her life and
poetry. Sarah Kay structures the whole speech and performance to have a consistent flow. She keeps
her audience engaged by telling interesting stories and jokes. The way Sarah Kay transitions through
this TED talk seems that she is showing her passion for spoken word poetry.

Jim Morrison's Essay: How Truthful Is A Tribute?
How Truthful is a Tribute?
An invitation was extended one evening for an opportunity to see a well respected Grateful Dead
tribute band playing at a local venue in Los Angeles. The interpretation of cover bands I understood
was lacking in seriousness. My perception of a superior concert experience being groups that had
composed and performed their own music. The audience would be expected to have a melancholy
air, refusing to confront a reality that members they idolized no longer performed. They would have
some nostalgic attachment to the music being shared that night which would surpass any faint
childhood memory I might have had listening to Ripple in the car with my father.
Tribute bands thrive knowing they offer attendees an experience that is out of their reach. The ...

Beltway Poetry Slam Analysis
I attended the Beltway Poetry Slam which was held at the Busboys and Poets in Brookland NE.
During the poetry slam, I silently took notes in the back of the room and I made sure I was not
interrupting the scenery.
Before walking in, I didn't know what to expect. I choose to go to the Beltway Poetry Slam, because
I would have the opportunity to hear and feel the poets' raw emotions. Before walking in, I thought
the poetry slam would have more of a competitive aspect.
There was very little competition and the poets didn't try to rebut or argue back. This experience
helped dispel some of my preconceived notions about how poetry slams work. I thought all poetry
slams are hyper–competitive and but the poets who performed seemed as though they enjoyed being
on stage and they didn't seemed stressed.
During my time at Beltway Poetry Slam, I realized there were several common trends. All of the
poets were Black/African American and they brought up the negative problems pertaining to the
community such as abuse, rape, police brutality, violence, black women struggles, etc; essentially
becoming the themes of the poetry slam. These poets noted whether they have ... Show more

for me. Bravery is a feeling that is hard for me to emulate at times and his statement is a good

Just as we cannot pinpoint the exact moment we learn our own names, I can't recall when my love
for theatre began, but it must have been around the same time. I don't remember a time I hadn't been
fascinated by storytelling and performance. This childhood amusement only strengthened when I
started going to school and we'd put on plays for parents, and started reading and discussing

represents to me all the every–day aspects of life while also holding artistic value. My love for

I Attended University Dance Theatre
I attended University Dance Theatre over the weekend, and after just recently becoming interested
in dance and appreciating dance as an art form I was excited to watch a live dance performance.
There were a total of nine dances, each of which, were choreographed by different people. Not
surprisingly, every dance was extremely different, and left the audience feeling different emotions.
It was hard picking two dances that I enjoyed the most because they were all fantastic. I picked two
that were simple, in the sense that anyone could determine the reason behind the dance. The first is
powerful, and the second is humorous. It was interesting breaking down the dances, determining the
choreographic and theatrical elements, and concluding the meaning of the dance – if any. My
expectations were high going in, and I was not disappointed. Beginning with the powerful dance in
the first–half – Still?. Still? was preformed by two African American women. I found this dance
interesting because the music was spoken text by Martin Luther King, Jr. in the beginning and
towards the end was poetry that was spoken with strong emotion. The stage lighting was turned
down, almost completely dark, and the two women had dark clothing, which, indicated sorrow,
frustration, and anger almost. The dancers only used a small portion of the stage with no props and a
completely bare stage – the focus was directed to the two dancers.
The women had relatively low to medium, sharp movements in some parts

As Charles Baudelaire said "The dance can reveal everything mysterious that is hidden in music,
and it has the additional merit of being human and palpable. Dancing is poetry with arms and legs."
Ballet, is one of the oldest, well–designed, and passionate ways of dance that can explain without

discipline, and devotion. It's known for being swift, and romantic as well as unique, and it stands out
in between the rest of the art.

During this third part the dancers wore silver white clothing that stand out more the beauty, and
elegancy of the choreography. Of course, the music was a big part of the show. The song of this
segment was composed by other of the great, Peter Ilyitch Tchaikovsky. The music was selected
from Symphony No. 3 in D major, Op. 29, 1875. These melodies also evoke passion, romance, and
many feelings like the other ones did. The instrumental portion was incredible was like a violin and
piano duet. This combination of sounds was spectacular, you could feel how each piece that the
orchestra played was over flowing with emotions and how it brought them out.
In conclusion, I must admit that Jewels Ballet was my first classical concert. I thought that coming
there will be a waste of time or maybe, it could made me feel boring, but for my own surprise this
performs was amazing. Each song played were creatively intertwined into the dance, expressing
emotions that are impossible to describe. If you think in all these together, you can see that the
combination of dance and music go hand to hand, and can create magnificent fusions of

The MGA Chamber Singers Performance: Critical Analysis
On Thursday, April 21, 2016, I attended a concert of the MGA Chamber Singers, along with about
fifty to seventy–five other attendees. The 27 members of the MGA Chamber Singers, along with
director Rebecca Lanning and pianists Gail Pollock and Tom Rule presented their musical ensemble
at 7:30 P.M. in the Arts Complex Rehearsal Hall on the Macon Campus of Middle Georgia State
University. They presented twenty–one different compositions with a broad range of composers,
including John Coates Jr., Aaron Copeland, Robert Schumann, John Rutter, and Franz Shubert. To
begin the concert, the Chamber Singers sang three Norwegian Folk Songs: "Sulla Lulla," "The
Night Bird," and "Goatherd's Song." All are written by John Coates Jr. John Coates Jr., born in 1938,

Physical Theatre Performance Analysation
"Audiences today want a real experience in their live performance, because they can get great script
based entertainment at home, through various new media sources. Traditional theatre, which appeals
on a mental, and hopefully also emotional level, has not been enough to compete with other media,
and audiences have been declining. Physical theatre, by contrast appeals to the audience on a
physical and emotional level, providing a much more immediate experience than traditional theatre"

The audience then became lost and frightened as there were no signs leading them to their next
destination, once again forcing them to partake in the performance. This physicalisation not only
successfully involved the contemporary audience, but demonstrated the necessity of physical
composition to give audiences that real experience. This use of physical composition provided
immediate reaction and emotional expression through action and contrast. These elements
ultimately enhanced the mood and symbolism of the performance, allowing audiences to not only
partake in the production on an intimate level but also on an emotional level. Another way in which
mood and symbol can be created is through the use of complicité.
Another element used to enhance the physical theatre experience is complicité. This dramatic
language refers to the use of an ensemble. In Dante's Inferno the benefit of an ensemble is
demonstrated throughout the whole course of the production as it provided bigger representations
and enhanced the powerful concepts. In particular, the "violent" circle representing murder, death
and the element of fire, excelled in the utilisation of an ensemble. The audience were guided into a
large hall where approximately thirty ensemble members were positioned around the architecture.
The ensemble worked together, manipulating their bodies into unnatural, unsettling postures.

How To Respond To The Little Fugue
1. The fugue is a polyphonic music that is based on one main theme, called a "subject". The fugue
presents only a single mood with a continuous flow. Starting with a monophonic texture voice
follows with imitative "answers". The repetition of subject is constantly throughout the piece,
separating with "episodes". I think they were popular because the fugues is easy to remember with
their repetition of the subject. Though it is constantly repeating with one melodic line, the music is
not bored but extremely exciting with their skillful technique of variations. Comparing to jazz, the
fugue has the same technique of adding lots of impressive variations, however, it is still fluent and
related to the subject. For example, the fugue has four different variation of subject, which is
inversion, retrograde, augmentation and diminution. In jazz, these technique are often used in
improvisation. Both music present a single mood, and remain smooth throughout the piece with the
plenty variations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

form of fugue is clear in the music. The subject is passed from soprano to bass at the start of the

countersubject right after the subject is played in a voice. This result in the much shorter and quicker
note of countersubject usually stay in a higher range of voice constructing a luxurious feeling to the

West Philly Youth Night: A Short Story
Not many 10 year olds are introduced to slam poetry. Fortunately for me , I wasn't one of those 10
year olds who lacked that experience. After performing at a show on South Street, my cousin

Youth Night. The only place in the city where Philadelphia youth can share their voices in the city. I
was more than excited to showcase my talents in front of other people. On the way to the slam ,
which was at The Rotunda in West Philly, I exuded eagerness the whole way there. The thought of
me slamming in front of other poets and excited a crowd left me in awe.My cousin and his friends
are trying to easily put down my aspirations of participating in a slam tonight. Telling me slams
takes a lot of preparation that I didn't put in. I retorted with me saying I was more than talented
enough to hang with the best poets in the city. I only heard snickers at the idea of me being able to
pull that considering my age. About a rough 15 minutes later, we finally arrive at The Rotunda. The
building towered over the group of people hanging out in front of it. As soon I walk in , I

American Dance Report
On September 10th, I had the pleasure of attending the Shapiro and Smith Dance. The performance
was a series of different dance numbers that used different elements of sound and movements to
promote their ideas. The first dance was called "Dance with Two Army Blankets." The dance used
old army blankets as props to throw the dancers around the stage. Often, the blankets were used to
throw these dancers away from other people who they were trying to reach, as if their experiences
with war made it difficult for them to connect with others. This danced was followed by "Jack," a
dance between two men and played around with all the fairy tales and rhymes that were about men

atmosphere, and the distance between dancer and audience felt less because the normal "glam" that
is used to separate those on stage from those in the house was gone. The following dance, however,
went back to what I was expecting to see at a dance show. "To Have and To Hold" was a number
dedicated to "those we have loved and lost but not forgotten," to quote my program. The music was
entirely instrumental and the mood of the music was used to dictate mood of the dance. After the
more cheerful and humorous "Jack" and "Pat A Cake" this dance felt heavier. Even the moments of
joy when the dancers were, literally, sliding across the stage, there was a sorrowful undertone as if

The Ancient Greek Chorus Influence On Modern Theatre
Referred to as 'the mouthpiece of society and morality', (E. Karayannakos, The Actors and The
Chorus, 2007), the Ancient Greek chorus used a range of vocal techniques and elements, which have
influenced and shaped western theatre as it is today (M. Mendenhall, Greek Theatre Influences on
Modern Theatre, 2012). From 7th Century BC to 4th Century BC, Greek choruses are particularly
renowned for their approach in engaging the audience with the context of a play. (B. Simpson,
Development of Greek Theatre, 2007), Specifically, vocal techniques played a main role in this
engagement (A. Thompson, The Ancient Greek Chorus and Elements of Choral Speaking, 2012)

Antigone believes that humanity or natural laws have priority over Creon's laws and disobeys his

bringing further tragedy to other characters (J. Jennings, Summary of Antigone, 2011). Antigone is a
tragic play about defiance, law, death and love (B. Honig, Antigone Interrupted, 2013, pg. 6). These
elements make Antigone one of the most tragic plays in Ancient Greek Theatre as multiple deaths of
main characters occur within the traditional texts. In order to convey these elements the chorus had
a vital role in the process of the play. In 'Antigone', the chorus at times would directly affect the

The Performance Of The Performing Arts
The performing arts give and enhance many traits in a person's life. Students involved in theater
prepares students for later–in–life experiences. Participation also makes people feel a certain
belonging to society. Students learn new skills: increased intelligence, and the ability to connect and
read others' emotions. Participation in the performing arts gives people experience, the feeling of
belonging, and new skills. Firstly, students participating in theater gain experiences for later careers.
For example, someone who understands an audition would know what to expect in a job or college
interview. Assisting in a performance, even on the technical side, can also improve the ability to
withstand stress and being put in a position under pressure (Mintz). This also expands one's capacity
for thinking and knowledge about the performing arts and gives students a greater appreciation for
the arts. They gain new abilities and endure more of the hardships in their lives. Problem solving is
a definite trait gained for the teamwork and leadership roles many must take on in productions. This
prepares them for their career and the hardships and pressure they must endure. Some people even
view the performing arts as transcendent experience, giving them a new way to look at life as a
whole, making it a spiritual experience. Also performing enhances one's speaking ability, or public
speaking. This is extremely useful later in life when, for example, one has to give a

Ballet's Influence on American Culture

  • 1. Ballet Influence On American Culture As a cultural continuity from the sixteenth century through the twenty–first century, ballet has influenced politics, economies, and cultures globally. Society is an organized group of persons associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes; Ballet pertaining to society organizes people together for various purposes. Beginning in the sixteenth century ballet began to impact various aspects within every society it was introduced to and used in such as economics, politics, culture, innovations, and art within Europe, especially France. Sixteenth–century France contained civil and religious conflicts, so the French kings drew from the deep traditions of Italian Renaissance thoughts about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the 1770s ballet was still contributing to society through politics, Noverre who staged thirty– eight fresh ballets in Vienna for the empress, did such an exceptional job that he was then given the task of training and being ballet master of the future queen of France, Marie Antoinette. Ballet was also cut from political ties as well, no longer having royal support some theaters resulted in closure. In Milan, however, ballet was not yet a political ambition, but the cultural identity. The seating itself represented the social hierarchies, having the most coveted boxes occupied by nobility. As a constant theme for any high production art, the box office proved to be an economic need and a "superior popularity of lighter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Carol King Musical Analysis The play that I went to see was Beautiful: The Carol King Musical. I attended opening night of this play on Tuesday, February 21st of this year. This musical is about the true and remarkable story of her uprising career. Carol started off as a song writer when she was only a teen writing with her future husband, Gerry Goffin. The play is about an extraordinary person who battles everyday issues, but ultimately overcomes the odds and adversities thrown at her. With her talent in music and singing; Carol King went on to have one of the most successful solo acts in music history. King's story is truly inspiring and this play attributes to her legacy not just as an artist but also a person. The play's genre is musical theatre because singing and dancing are essential parts of the play. The director's purpose of this play was to tell in great detail the life of American artist Carol King. The play was performed at the lovely Peace Center. The Peace Center, which is a great fine arts theatre in downtown Greenville. Has a stage that is known as a Proscenium stage with large curtains from floor to ceiling. The sets varied from an office setting with a piano that was where Carol and her husband would write music in the couple's home. The interesting thing about the set was that it all was centered on and around her piano. The props were mainly the piano which could be seen in every scene. In the office the props also consisted of a desk and some other different items you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is Slam Poetry SOUTH AFRICAN SLAM POETRY Healing and entertaining people through rhythmic storytelling are the corner stone of slam poetry. Slam poetry is a type of type poetry where people read their poems without props, costumes or music (A Brief Guide to slam poetry. 2004). It is usually original work that talks about themes and subject that people can relate to. Invented in the 1980s by a Chicago construction worker named March Smith, it started as a form of storytelling and they used rhythm to make it entertaining (What is slam poetry? .2013). The essay is about a South African poet Koleka Putuma within details about biographical background of the poet's life, body of work, performance style and analysis of her poem that will be provided. I feel the pain they felt as I say what they said and do what they did. Why are you amazed by the way I curse so confidently? Forgive me I'm just a performer perfectly portraying the pain of those who were patronized. I am dressed in the spirit of men and women who exist in imaginative People's minds, just a character, even sometimes I feel not real but it's the love that keeps me believing, am I not the gift that keeps on giving? These steps I walk on stage have meaning. Sometimes I swear at God, forgive me if I'm sinning but I'm just a performer who perfectly Portray the pride of the people who perished. Reciting the world's feelings, their sadness I keep healing, see I'm not always sad and angry sometimes I leave them laughing because I am a comedian. Am not amazing? • 4. Pseodolus And The Fourth Wall Pseodolus and the Fourth Wall Leigh's statement that 'The edge of the stage is not an invisible boundary over which the actor must never step but a garden wall across which the actor gossips and flirts with the public as if they were neighbours' seems to have captured the very essence of audience acknowledgement that is so present in the play Pseudolus. Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems particularly bothered by any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and subtle character acknowledgement of the audience. Indeed the notion that the fourth wall is some sort of impenetrable barrier between performer and audience seems absurd when one examines the aims of theatre and performance as a whole, and Pseudolus circumvents and breaches this supposed barrier with a variety of means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is backed up by Livy's claim that "in the old days all poets agebant, produced and acted in their own plays" and if it is true then the scene where Pseudolus speaks of 'playing the poet' is vaguely autobiographical in nature as Plautus – who has taken on the role of Pseudolus to achieve the goal of entertaining the audience – now claims to be taking on a new role, which is in fact his original role, in order to enable his role as Pseudolus to be enacted to full effect. This sort of referencing of events that occur outside the play – such as the nature of Plautus' true identity– is never stated outright in the play, but one cannot ignore the fact that the play behaves as though it were aware of such knowledge. In the context of Leigh's garden fence analogy, this would be the equivalent of the neighbour winking over the fence in a silent joke at the secret you share, without ever actually mentioning ... • 5. Tap Dance History Dance is an art form that is interpreted into many different styles around the world. Whether it is used for a traditional ceremony or just for the sake of it, dance is something that brings people together. Dance is done with music or you are creating the dance yourself which is what I enjoy doing and that would be tap. You are the one creating these beats and percussions while dancing. Even with this prior knowledge with dance styles like tap and ones similar to it, I like to learn about different things that are not known as much, foreign dance styles. Because of this, I have chosen tap as my familiar dance form and Ardah as my unfamiliar dance form. Africans also used this type of dance to communicate with others. They used to do this type of dance to express their religious beliefs. In the 11 years that I have been dancing, the greatest part of my attention has been spent on the development and control of the variety of tones that can be produced by Taps of the heels and soles on the floor and against each other (Knowles 14). Tap dance began to appear in stage dance through shows in the1890's. After the civil war, many minstrel shows were created which became into the Broadway musical and tap dance. Movies were then using tap dances and they were also using tap dances in musicals. The creation of jazz music also influenced tap dance by creating styles that used a lot of improvisation. Tap dancing was used more and more in shows and performances. Back then, Slaves would have competitions on plantations and the owners would place bets on the best performers. In 1739, a law was passed that the slaves were not allowed to use drums at all. Since they were no longer allowed, they started using their feet against other things to make noise. The ... • 6. Research Paper On Slam Poetry Slam poetry Slam poetry is one of the many forms of art where people express their feelings by writing them down and sharing them with other people. In 1984 Smith a constuction worker was hosting poetry reading in a jazz club in Chicago. Mac made up a gimmick to bring life to his open–mic formal; his idea was to match up poets against each other as in a fight. It was in 1986 when slam poetry was born and has been going on ever since. Accoding to the Oxford dictionary (1994 : 194) slam poetry is a competition where poets read, recite, and perform original work alone or as a team before an audience who act as judges they are judged at a scale of 0–10. The following essay is about slam poetry and will provide a brief biography on Maya Wegerif a South African slam poety. The main focus will be on the poet's body of work and performance style. Lastly I will analize one of Wegerif's peom. I will also include my own slam poem. Maya is a young mixed race South Africa woman born in Limpopo in a township called Shirley 21 years ago. Wegerif started writing at the age of 11. Her first published poem was titled Life. At an early stage Wegerif was writing something in her diary, unfortunately she cannot remember. • 7. Charlie Parker Essay The recording I listened to was the poem "Charlie Parker" performed by Jack Kerouac and Steve Allen. This performance is accompanied by a musical rendition that relates to the poem's content, as the poem is about musician Charlie Parker. Kerouac is performing this poem in memoriam of the musician. Kerouac describes Charlie Parker in an affluent manner to attest to his musical reverence, such as calling him "a great musician". The sound of the poem and the meaning are greatly intertwined with one another. The sound is musical and whimsical in nature, as the music playing compliments the poem performance. The meaning of the poem is about the great musician Charlie Parker and a testament to his life. So the music that accompanies this meaningful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought that Kerouac's musical tone of voice accompanying the music playing really gave the experience of listening to a song rather than a poetry performance. It had a nice flow to the performance that added to the songlike feel to this performance when listening to it. I especially heard this tone in lines, such as "we blop and we plop". The use of sound imagery helps in relating the songlike feel to poetry to the actual musician who is at the center of the poem's content and meaning. This is not the only imagery seen in the poem, as there are multiple points in the poem. Kerouac uses imagery as a way to immerse in the poem to give the reader mental images about Charlie Parker. This can be seen at the beginning of the poem when Kerouac is describing Charlie Parker, such as the line "Charlie Parker looked like Buddha." Kerouac also used imagery to describe the music of Charlie Parker as well. Kerouac describes the experience of listening to Charlie Parker play in lines such as "like the perfect cry of some wild gang at a jam session Wail! Whap!". This type of imagery gives the feeling of being at one of the great musician's performances. This poetry performance was one full of meaning and emotion. The music helped assist in creating this experience of emotion and meaning to the poem's content. The imagery also stands out in this performance to help create the vision of emotion and ... • 8. Analysis Of Edward Albee's The Sandbox In Betty Keller's Tea Party, Alma, a seventy–five year old woman, and Hester Evans, a seventy–nine year old woman are sisters that share a home together. In their old age and due to Hester being a cripple, the Evans sisters are confined to their home almost all the time. The small amount of excitement they do get, is from the neighborhood paperboy that they occasionally get to speak to. It is made quite obvious at the beginning of the drama, that the two women are starved of attention and company, it is made so obvious by their eagerness and restlessness about the fact that the paperboy will be arriving soon. While Alama watches the boy make his way down the street the two try to decide what story they tell the young lad when he arrives at their porch. While throwing out ideas they argue about the details about the story and whether the story is appropriate for the young man to hear. Unfortunately the paperboy must not have time for the old timers stories because as he passes he throws the paper on the porch and continues on without checking with the Evans sisters for collecting outgoing bills. So the Evans sisters are forced to wait for their next opportunity for attention. In Edward Albee's The Sandbox the characters are to treat each other with dry and little emotion as possible. The play itself is about the performance of a very poor play. The two characters, Mommy and Daddy are bringing Grandma to peacefully pass away by a quiet beach side. Throughout the play the ... • 9. Sardono Essay The Physical Turn and Improvisation in the Seventies Cultural imperialism, in a form of New York's World Expo in 1964, stands on the background of this part of the story. A young Javanese dancer, Sardono W. Kusumo was a member of the Indonesian dancer contingent for the expo. Extending his stay in the city that had become an adopted home or, depending on your viewpoint, a thrift store of world culture, there he met another young Indonesian, just a couple years his senior, an emerging poet cum theatre artist by the name of Rendra. The following six–months of his informal residency would be brief and memorable for Sardono and its significance to Indonesian performance field would continue to resonate until a few decades later. In 2003, I was involved in organizing a gathering of a hundred performance artists from all around Indonesia, a rare week of retreat for a convivial sharing, and workshop ... While the workshop's main contents were not new in their respective performance vocabulary, Sardono was illuminated by Erdman's ability to appropriate the approach with a contemporary framework that he found useful for developing a performance work. In the workshop, Erdman also introduced them to her principle approach of improvisation. It is important to note here that Rendra's introduction to the notion of improvisation as a modern theatre vocabulary might occurred earlier, especially during his time studying at the American Dramatic Arts. Nonetheless, Sardono underlines how Erdman taught her improvisation method systematically, which encouraged him to think more about abstraction, imagination, spatial contact and bodily deconstruction, as he would eventually develop as his working method in the seventies ... • 11. Rap Vs Rap Genre Although millions of people listen to music everyday, many people never take notice of how many genres exist throughout the world. Two genres that take popular notice in the music industry, that may be considered as "opposite sides of the coin", the genres can easily be compared and contrasted, no matter which compare or contrast side is favored. The Broadway genre, which is notably alongside musical theatrics, or simply theatrics in general, is not only for the sophisticated population in it's essence, but is even favored by adolescents of all ages. Due to the variety of musicals that have been created throughout the past one hundred years, there is a musical for any type of person, no matter how much or how little they favor the Broadway genre. The rap genre, however, can seem extremely different from most genres of music. Nevertheless, if a person finds an area of the rap genre that comes to their own liking, they may come to the realization that not all of it is the same, which can be true. Typically, rap, which stands for "rhythm and poetry", has a fast paced, recurring beat, with a vocalist rhythmically speaking patterned lyrics throughout a song. In many popular songs today, rap can take up an entire song, or simply be put in a single verse in another vocalist's performance. Although the rap genre and Broadway genre are slightly similar in terms of the music production, they are, however, significantly different in the way that they are performed, and the reasons why ... • 14. A Relationship With A Woman I was 50 years old and hadn 't been to bed with a woman for four years. I had no women friends. I looked at them as I passed them on the streets or wherever I saw them, but I looked at them without yearning and with a sense of futility. I masturbated regularly, but the idea of having a relationship with a woman–– even on non–sexual terms––was beyond my imagination. I had a 6 year old daughter born out of wedlock. She lived with her mother and I paid child support. I had been married years before at the age of 35. That marriage lasted two and one half years. My wife divorced me. I had been in love only once. She had died of acute alcoholism. She died at 48 when I was 38. My wife had been 12 years younger than I. I believe that she too is dead now, although I 'm not sure. She wrote me a long letter each Christmas for 6 years after the divorce. I never responded. . . . I 'm not sure when I first saw Lydia Vance. The personality I was listed as is an ESFP, people who have my personality typically go into the entertainment franchise. Seeing as how I have always wanted to be a musician and write music I have chosen my career path as a performer. I chose this path because I am at my happiest when I am writing music and it is very challenging to be successful as a performer which encourages me to keep writing so that one day I can achieve my greatest goal. That goal is to become known worldwide and create music that everyone listens to and enjoys with the same passion and love. Being a performer you have many job duties but the most important and essential are entertaining guests and interacting with them, keeping audiences alive and making sure that they enjoy every showcase of acts, and of course striking poses with customers for taking of pictures. Performers always know how to present themselves to an adoring crowd, what to say to keep them involved and wanting more. In comparison to most earlier works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of Cazamian, "a high level of artistic creation is reached." This essay will focus on Guillemette and study both her role in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give the reader an idea of the plays "high level of artistic creation", and also illustrate some of the many witty double meanings and underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would be more quick–witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I and III, Guillemette's cleverness is clear. So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and, unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and the audience. The thought of me slamming in front of other poets and excited a crowd left me in awe.My cousin and his friends are trying to easily put down my aspirations of participating in a slam tonight. Telling me slams takes a lot of preparation that I didn't put in. I retorted with me saying I was more than talented enough to hang with the best poets in the city. I only heard snickers at the idea of me being able to pull that considering my age. About a rough 15 minutes later, we finally arrive at The Rotunda. The building towered over the group of people hanging out in front of it. As soon I walk in , I immediately feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That was beyond easier said than done, because you had to be at least 13 to slam. Meanwhile my 10 year old body refused to turned away to just a mere open mic performance. I want to scale my talents against other people despite age across the city. I was told to find Greg Corbin to find a way to slam. Greg is the founder of PYPM the organization that runs this event. He told me that I should probably sit out this slam and believe that I wasn't ready like everyone else. Like everyone else, I retorted but the difference this time I responded with a poem. Greg was impressed , he said I was good, but questioned if I was truly ready. I spoke with so much conviction it eventually had him put on the list to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. American Dance Report On September 10th, I had the pleasure of attending the Shapiro and Smith Dance. The performance was a series of different dance numbers that used different elements of sound and movements to promote their ideas. The first dance was called "Dance with Two Army Blankets." The dance used old army blankets as props to throw the dancers around the stage. Often, the blankets were used to throw these dancers away from other people who they were trying to reach, as if their experiences with war made it difficult for them to connect with others. This danced was followed by "Jack," a dance between two men and played around with all the fairy tales and rhymes that were about men named Jack. The usage of poetry and spoken word in a dance was a new concept to me, with no set rhythm that a normal song would present it was interesting how the dancers used the beats of the voice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dancers in "Jack" had used pre recorded poetry while the two ladies of "Pat A Cake" relied only on what sounds they could make through stomping, clapping, snapping, as well as their own words. They had no other sound other than what they could create. This created an almost intimate atmosphere, and the distance between dancer and audience felt less because the normal "glam" that is used to separate those on stage from those in the house was gone. The following dance, however, went back to what I was expecting to see at a dance show. "To Have and To Hold" was a number dedicated to "those we have loved and lost but not forgotten," to quote my program. The music was entirely instrumental and the mood of the music was used to dictate mood of the dance. After the more cheerful and humorous "Jack" and "Pat A Cake" this dance felt heavier. Even the moments of joy when the dancers were, literally, sliding across the stage, there was a sorrowful undertone as if the joy wouldn't last for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Ancient Greek Chorus Influence On Modern Theatre Referred to as 'the mouthpiece of society and morality', (E. Karayannakos, The Actors and The Chorus, 2007), the Ancient Greek chorus used a range of vocal techniques and elements, which have influenced and shaped western theatre as it is today (M. Mendenhall, Greek Theatre Influences on Modern Theatre, 2012). From 7th Century BC to 4th Century BC, Greek choruses are particularly renowned for their approach in engaging the audience with the context of a play. (B. Simpson, Development of Greek Theatre, 2007), Specifically, vocal techniques played a main role in this engagement (A. Thompson, The Ancient Greek Chorus and Elements of Choral Speaking, 2012) and are why this investigation is focused upon them. Primary data was collected through an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Antigone believes that humanity or natural laws have priority over Creon's laws and disobeys his instructions accordingly. Her pride ensures that she will die rather than renounce her beliefs, thereby bringing further tragedy to other characters (J. Jennings, Summary of Antigone, 2011). Antigone is a tragic play about defiance, law, death and love (B. Honig, Antigone Interrupted, 2013, pg. 6). These elements make Antigone one of the most tragic plays in Ancient Greek Theatre as multiple deaths of main characters occur within the traditional texts. In order to convey these elements the chorus had a vital role in the process of the play. In 'Antigone', the chorus at times would directly affect the action on. The chorus would interact with the actors on stage physically, and through text which aloud a personal link and connection with the audience on stage (R. Shoutez, The Function of The Chorus, 2010). Artistic Director, Howard Jenson from The Indiana University states: "In Classical Greek plays, the chorus IS the main character." (H. Jenson, Artistic Director, Indiana University – Directing Greek Theatre, 2011) which supports the statement of the importance of the chorus within Ancient Greek ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Performance Of The Performing Arts The performing arts give and enhance many traits in a person's life. Students involved in theater prepares students for later–in–life experiences. Participation also makes people feel a certain belonging to society. Students learn new skills: increased intelligence, and the ability to connect and read others' emotions. Participation in the performing arts gives people experience, the feeling of belonging, and new skills. Firstly, students participating in theater gain experiences for later careers. For example, someone who understands an audition would know what to expect in a job or college interview. Assisting in a performance, even on the technical side, can also improve the ability to withstand stress and being put in a position under pressure (Mintz). This also expands one's capacity for thinking and knowledge about the performing arts and gives students a greater appreciation for the arts. They gain new abilities and endure more of the hardships in their lives. Problem solving is a definite trait gained for the teamwork and leadership roles many must take on in productions. This prepares them for their career and the hardships and pressure they must endure. Some people even view the performing arts as transcendent experience, giving them a new way to look at life as a whole, making it a spiritual experience. Also performing enhances one's speaking ability, or public speaking. This is extremely useful later in life when, for example, one has to give a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
