The document describes 4 costume designs for characters in the film "Silent Waters":
1) Costume One is a white top and black bottoms for Ginny in the forest scene, to show her purity but also hint at the darker possession that will take over her.
2) Costume Two is darker clothing for Amber in the train station to make her face stand out more when possessed.
3) Costume Three is casual beach clothing to portray the younger character waking on the beach as if out the night before.
4) Costume Four is smart, older clothing in dark colors for the final character in the abandoned car park, with no white to foreshadow something bad happening to her.
2. Costume One - Runner
This is what we designed for Ginny’s
scene in the forest. We thought that
for her to were a white top it would
show purity in her and her
innocence. However we wanted her
to have a contrast in her costume
and have darker elements in with
what she is wearing as she is the
first victim we see in the flashbacks
so wanted to show the darker side
of her when she gets possessed. We
felt adding the black in to her
costume would show evil, danger
and mystery with what is about to
happen. We needed the character
to carry a water bottle with her so
once she had become possessed
she would drop the bottle and this
would symbolise that something has
happened and taken over her.
3. Costume Two - Student
This is what we decided to have
Amber wear in the train station. It is
very different from what the first
character is wearing. We wanted her
to dress like a student so the target
audience can relate and show that
she is younger and more venerable.
As we were filming this scene during
the evening we thought that we
should dress her in darker clothing.
We hoped that were the train station
didn't have much light and she was
wearing dark clothing then when we
put the make up on her the white
paint would stand out more and
make her face stand out more
effective. The dark clothes go well
when she has become possessed to
show the evil in her.
4. Costume Three – Girl On Beach
Character three we decided that she
should wake up on the beach as if
she has been out the night before.
We hoped that by having this the
target audience would relate to this
character because of the age. We
designed this costume to look casual
because we didn’t want her looking
too smart otherwise it would not
have given the same effect as it did.
This is the first character we see in
the film and wanted her to be
wearing darker clothing to set the
mood straight away by having her
wear darker clothing but with a bit of
white clothing on show to show she
was pure to begin with.
5. Costume Four – Girl In Car Park
The last character we see is a girl in
an abandoned car park. She is meant
to be older than the rest of the
character and by making this
character older then the others we
wanted to show that what is
happening can happen to all ages of
people. She is meant to be coming
back from a trip up to the high-street
and heading towards her car, her
outfit is smart and older looking than
some of the others in the film. She is
in all dark colours with no white in
her costume this shows that
something bad is about to happen to
this her.
