This article focused on the study of a model that link
multicultural training, ethnicity and multicultural counseling
competence among school going counselors. The results showed
that, white and ethnic minority schools counselors experienced
the lowest Multicultural counseling competence when subjected
to a limited color-blind racial attitude.

Beyond the Relationship: Expanding the Repertoire With

This article focuses on multicultural counseling approaches. It
concentrates on multicultural counseling coupled with
techniques and strategies that addresses psychological freedom.
The goal of this article gives an insight into how a person is set
free from the oppressive discriminatory system
Ivers, N. N. (2012). The Effect of Ethnicity on Multicultural
Competence. Journal Of Professional Counseling: Practice,
Theory & Research, 39(2), 40-52.
This articles sheds light into what led to multicultural
counseling after in depth examination of European American,
African American and the Latino students. The result of this
research showed that, there is a higher multicultural counseling
and competence among Latino students than African America
and their European American counterparts. However, the study
showed no difference between in the multicultural counseling
between the European American students and the African
American Students.

The researchers in this study focused on contributions made by
single multicultural counseling course with experimental
learning tactics. Two studies were involved in this research and
the results showed that, multicultural counseling courses
increased student’s awareness and are able to deal with any kind
of challenging environment.

Multicultural Counseling Competence and Anti-Black
Prejudice on Therapists' Outcome Expectancies. Journal Of
Counseling Psychology, 61(2), 299-305. doi:10.1037/a0036134
This article examined the multiple predictors of anti-black
biasness among counselors. An online survey was conducted to
determine the global multicultural competence. The result of
this study showed that, there was variance in the predictors used
with some showing deliberate prejudice.

Development and Multicultural Counseling Competencies of
White Mental Health Practitioners. International Journal Of
Psychology & Psychological Therapy, 11(2), 201-218.
This study holds the belief that, multicultural counseling
competency lies on the racial identity development. A structural
modeling equation was used om testing the legitimacy of this
belief and the results confirmed that, women perceive
themselves as culturally competent than men.

This articles focuses on the multicultural counseling
competence in line with the identified predictors such as
ethnicity, race, and color blindness. It focused on the
multicultural counseling competence of 370 trainees and the
results showed that, there is high association between color
blindness and the multicultural knowledge at the training.

Counseling Self-Efficacy Scale – Racial Diversity Form: Factor
structure and test of a social cognitive model. Psychotherapy

The researchers in this article gathered evidence using the
factor structure and the concurrent credential validity of the
Multicultural Counseling Self-Efficacy Scale racial Diversity
Forum(MCSE-RD) ( Sheu and Lent,2008).The perceived
capabilities of the therapists of performing relevant session
behaviors regarding cross-cultural counseling was examined.
The results of the study showed that, multicultural counseling
has implications on future operations if the therapists continue
performing as the way they are doing it.

teach multicultural competencies in counseling, psychology, and
education: teaching abroad or on campus? Intercultural

This article is more of a manuscript bearing results of
comparative study of counseling, psychology and education
students in USA with an objective of determining their
multicultural competencies. The data was collected and
analyzed respectively. The results showed that, more students
are willing to interact and learn from diverse population.
Vereen, L. G., Hill, N. R., & McNeal, D. T. (2008). Perceptions
of Multicultural Counseling Competency: Integration of the
Curricular and the Practical. Journal Of Mental Health
Counseling, 30(3), 226-236.
In this article, a national survey was conducted about counselor
trainees to determine what influence multicultural competencies
in an integrative educational perspective. The results of this
study showed that, clinical supervision and counseling with
more non-white produced high scores of multicultural
competence.

In the final module/week of this course, a final paper is
required. The research topic was submitted in Module/Week 2.
Discuss the relevance of the selected topic to an understanding
of multiculturalism or the application of the topic in
multicultural counseling.

The final paper must be 10–12 pages (not including the title
page, abstract page, or reference pages).
The paper must include a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed and
academic journal resources. Academic journals can be easily
accessed through Liberty University’s online library. A
librarian is available to assist online students. The articles
should be dated within the past 5 years.
Remember that information from generic websites (e.g.,
Wikipedia, About.com) will not count towards the minimum of
10 sources required in the paper.
Do not include pictures, charts, or graphs in the final paper.
Most of the paper was completed over the term. You should
have a title page and abstract from previous modules/weeks.
The annotated bibliography should not be pasted in the paper.
However, the annotated bibliography should offer the
information and sources that you may use in the paper.
The required components that must be included in the paper:
· Title page
· Abstract page
· Body of 10–12 pages
· Reference page
The paper must follow current APA format guidelines.

Abstract
There are trends in multicultural counseling. People of different
cultures are not likely to seek counseling services. The
distinctions and differentiations in cultures and values make
other people shy away from counseling s they always think that
they may not be understood. In a number of occasions, there is
always lack of access to the services. There is also the aspect of
lack of trust in the counselor as a result of the views of white
males by those of the other cultures. These issues surrounding
multicultural counseling are viewed in the ethical perspective.
Shame is also a factor and it is accompanied by the stigma of
seeking counseling since many feel that their cultures may not
feel that they are going to the extreme. Therefore, as per the
research, these are just some of the reasons why difficulty is
experienced in serving multicultural populations. Counselors
have the challenge of adapting a variety of different counseling
styles and interviewing in order to serve clients from different
cultural backgrounds. They should hence be cautious not to
focus on the client values as well as maintain cultural
sensitivity.

Running head: MULTICULTURAL COUNSELING Abstract There are trends in multicultural counseling. People of different cultures are not likely to seek counseling services. The distinctions and differentiations in cultures and values make other people shy away from counseling s they always think that they may not be understood. In a number of occasions, there is always lack of access to the services. There is also the aspect of lack of trust in the counselor as a result of the views of white males by those of the other cultures. These issues surrounding multicultural counseling are viewed in the ethical perspective. Shame is also a factor and it is accompanied by the stigma of seeking counseling since many feel that their cultures may not feel that they are going to the extreme. Therefore, as per the
  • 8. research, these are just some of the reasons why difficulty is experienced in serving multicultural populations. Counselors have the challenge of adapting a variety of different counseling styles and interviewing in order to serve clients from different cultural backgrounds. They should hence be cautious not to focus on the client values as well as maintain cultural sensitivity.
