3. Thinking back to ten years ago on the scale of social media and
technologies reliance in our lives, it is unspeakable to explain the drastic
increase that technology and social media concepts has influenced and
permanently altered the life of the American Society. Ideas, fads, and
different concepts come and go and evolve almost constant in today’s
generation and does not seem to be slowing down. Social media and
technology has taken over the world, and is something that is not going
anywhere. If the evolution in the past ten years was as immensely
drastic…CAN YOU IMAGINE how much further we will be in ten
more years?
THE PAST DECADE…
4. • Education is an timeless concept in today’s world, and is always evolving to
meet the best needs for academic success of students and future leaders of our
world.
• In a ten year time span, the use of textbooks which is vital to academic strides
will continue to diminish until they entirely become a thing of the past.
• The use and high take off for online text books is continuing to spread, and
the easy accessibility and amenities it offers will steer everyone to use online
text books over paper back.
• All technologic devices and hand held devices are equip to these textbooks so
the conveniences and aid it brings to anyone will entirely surpass paper books
by the year 2026.
• All ways of being taught, and requirements from students will be taught and
obtained through devices and through online services and amenities come
2026.
EDUCATION AND TEXTBOOKS
5. • The idea and concept of having a GPS “global positioning service” in your
car took off by storm years ago.
• To get place to place with the fast pace of the current society it was vital
that you had a GPS.
• However, nowadays GPS are found in your IPhone, IPads, and any other
hand held device.
• Therefore, the need for an individual GPS is slowly declining and it is
certain that in ten years they will be completely absent as the advancements
in other devices takes over its purpose.
• By the year 2026, cars will be able to sync through your phone where you
want to go including to pull over automatically if gas is needed or direct
you to a food place if you had texted or noted in you IPhone earlier in the
day that you wanted to have a certain food.
GPS
6. • The Uses and Gratifications Theory is a theory set into place that explains
and studies why and how people actively seek out specific media to satisfy
specific needs.
• This theory came into play in the 70’s and was created by Gurevitch, Katz,
and Blumler.
• This concepts focuses in on what gratifies and exceeds ones personal
needs therefore this concept is immensely relevant in technological
communication concepts.
• This in fact helps explain why textbooks and GPS systems will diminish as
other devices that meet ones needs quicker and more efficiently will take
over.
USES AND GRATIFICATIONS
THEORY
7. • The life of meeting in person to catch up, or meeting face to face to discuss
plans and agendas is something clearly fading away.
• Our reliance on our devices and technology to send texts, calls, facetimes,
Skype's, emails, etc. over meeting up and holding and conversing a true real
conversation is so absolent these days.
• The continuation of technology evolving and providing us with more
amenities will continue to decline social contract and social interactions.
• By the year 2026, the idea of meeting up for coffee and lunch will be
miniscule. Rather, we will have less businesses in buildings and more
businesses created online and communicating through Skype's and texting
rather than all together face-to-face so much that it will seem completely
normal.
FACE-TO-FACE AND VERBAL
COMMUNICATING
8. • Everett Rogers’s created a theory that seeks to explain how, why, and at
what rate new ideas and technology spread through cultures.
• This process explain how there are innovators, early adaptors, early
majority, late majority, and then the laggards.
• This proves why communication face-to-face will continue to diminish
because it is a fad and trend that will continue as more and more people
learn that devices can replace meetings. It proves and shows that the
convenience and concepts that technology can bring will completely take
the world by hand.
ROGER’S DIFFUSION OF
INNOVATIONS
10. • Gaming Arenas and Video Games were the “it” thing and fad throughout the last
decade. There is still demand for these things, but again it is something that is slowly
going to fad away in time.
• The advancements and continuation of APP’s “applications” on phones and other
devices is outweighing the need for a video game itself or the urge to go out and play
video games and such at arcades.
• The idea and thinking behind it is “why spend time and money on these things when I
can have it all in my hand right now?”
• In 2026, we will completely rely on our phones for games and videos. However, the
advancements in ten years will lead to people being able to create their own games and
be able to play them and sell them. The idea of robots coming into play to partake in a
two person physical came will also come into the picture.
GAMING ARENAS/VIDEO GAMES
11. • In 1976, the Media System Dependency Theory was created by Sandra
Ball-Rokeach and Melvin DeFleur, and is a theory brought up in classical
sociological literature stating that “media and their audiences should be
studied in the context of larger social systems”.
• This meaning that dependency theory proposes a connection between
audiences, media, and the bigger social system. This theory also
foreshadows that one depends on information from the media to meet
certain needs and reach certain goals.
• This in return helps connect the idea that video games and video arenas
are slowly going to continue to decline in demand because the connection
that we have to these desires can be obtained within our own devices at
our own hands.
MEDIA SYSTEM DEPENDENCY
THEORY
13. • Going to the movies and watching your favorite show after school or catching
it at the perfect time used to be the absolute craze and take over of the past.
• However, now inventions like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and other ideas like so
are taking over the population and interest by strides. The conveniences and
easily accessibility to these things is outweighing the idea and interest in going
to a television at a certain time to watch a show as well as driving and paying
over priced fees for a movie.
• All of this can be met in your bed, your own home, with your own devices all
with the click of a few buttons and because of this the next ten years will be
sure to see a massive decline in movie showing and television ratings.
• In 2026, movies will be completely accessible by computer and the need for
theaters will be slim. In ten years, movies and TV will advance to being able to
emote what you feel through the film and provide you with websites to buy
things to fit your needs with your emotions. As well, as there being goggles to
wear that will allow one to be completely morphed into the movie and to be
able to smell, feel, look around, and hear the movie to a whole new level.
MOVIE & TELEVISION RATINGS
14. • The Critical Mass Theory is a social movement that refers loosely to “any
formal theory about how interdependent decisions accumulate into collective
action or more narrowly to work in the tradition of Marwell and Oliver”.
• The idea of “critical mass” originates from “nuclear physics, as the smallest
amount of fissile material needed to sustain a nuclear chain reaction. An
analogy or metaphor the term has diffused into popular culture and social
science and is widely used to refer to any context in which things change after
a certain number of people get together or enter a setting”.
• Therefore, the trend that people chose to start using Netflix over finding time
to watch the show at a particular hour or make it to a showing of a movie
results in a new era of a new lifestyle. Therefore, currently Netflix and other
like so APP’s, are in high use that by 2026 even more advancements and new
fads will come into play that TV showings and movie rating will fall at
unreachable rates.
CRITICAL MASS THEORY
15. • In years to come, the world as we know it will continue to change
whether we want it to or not. I, personally, feel as though no one quite
knew how immensely our world, when dealing with technology,
communication, and social media would be altered. In the last ten years
our lives have been changed forever, and the way we go about each and
everyday whether it be for work, recreation, habit, or any other purpose
technology and social media plays an immense role. This is not
speaking on the reliance we humans have for technology with
communicating and living purposes. Therefore, by the time we make it
to 2026 A.D. the world and society I have no doubts will be completely
evolved and the advancements to come will continue to blow our minds
and change the way we tackle each and every aspect of everyday.
