Student may contact center if they have:
Permanent disability
Temporary disability
Physical/medical disability
Psychological disability

4. WHY?
EX. If I student broke their arm and could
not write, the disability center would send
someone to take notes for them in class
EX. If I student was in a wheelchair, they
would give that student assistance
around campus

The center offers many services:

Adaptive furniture – Help arranging & moving
Distraction reduced exam setting
Emergency Procedures
Enlarged Print
Extended time for exams
Specific housing/room assignments
Interpreter

6. What is the Disabilities most
proud of ?
“Ibelieve that we are most proud of the
way that we handle situations and
students that come to us for help. We
think out of the box when it comes to
accomodating the students needs.”
They try to help every student to the best
of their ability
SHU is very supportive of them and helps
immediately
7. Important info
This center is different from what it was in High school
– rules and regulations against what the center can
and cannot do.
Accommodations are effective upon receipt and
appropriate documentation.
Student Rights:
“You have a right to services and reasonable
accommodations which allow you to compete on an
equal basis with non-disabled students as long as you
meet the basic requirements to perform activities of the
program or occupation. Information regarding your
disability is confidential and will not be released to
anyone without written information.”

disability center is vital.”
The center is extremely flexible and can get
accommodations if needed
Disability is not just mental, but physical as well
Can assist students with daily physical tasks as
well as counseling.
