People really cannot grow without any experience. As the saying says “You gain
strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look
fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, I lived through this honour. I can take the
next thing that comes along.” by Eleanor Roosevelt. Students are studying to learn or to
have the necessity of education, to allow themselves to see how ‘this and that’ works for
them to know how to make decisions by themselves and to know the different aspects of
life. Studying is more effective with experience.
“Experience is always a good source of knowledge”. Another quote that really
connects to students having their on-the-job training. Having a good foundation of
experiences from your past will truly help you to adapt worst things that could happen or
things that may block your way towards your goals.
One important way for Central Philippine University (CPU) to prepare us students
for the professional life of being an adult is by having us undergo an On-the-job training.
A course at our chosen corporation or company that fit their standards within a specific
number of hours. By having us go through such training, they equip us with the minimum
knowledge of the world outside the university. Sharpening our premature skills that can
help us in the future when we leave the university and follow our chosen career path.
2
A. PURPOSE OF PRACTICUM
The College of Business and Accountancy requires all graduating students to
undergo through an on-the-job training. Its main purpose it to prepare their students to the
world outside the university. To apply all the learnings they had from their past years.
Students like me, a financial management student has to complete a total of five hundred
(500) hours of training in an actual operating company. The importance of on-the-job
training from all views is to prepare and develop our young minds to become
professionals and excel in our chosen field.
On-the-job training, or otherwise known as Internship, gives students the
background on actual workplace situations. Through this, it enables a person to put his
skills on the test and apply what he already learned. It also give students the chance to
feel what it is like to be an employee.
This program is an essential part of any course one chooses for it exposes the
student or intern to outside factors that books cannot teach. It puts us students in an
environment that is somewhat new to us for the time being, an environment that will soon
be our everyday life.
On-the-job training can help us students acquire the knowledge and skills we need
through our performances at our chosen company. It provides real-world experience of
direct practice and opportunities for us to become independent and self-sufficient. It
makes us students realize the true meaning of time through punctuality. Teaches us to
become obedient to protocols that are strictly being followed. It allows us to grow
maturely with initiative and a sense of responsibility. Helps us become more thoughtful
3
and respectful to the people around us. This training also develop our technological ideas
and social interactions with professionals.
B. THE PLACE AND DATES OF WORK
I did my training at a company named MI Only Gadget Store. Together with my
co-interns Miana and Kristine. We were given five hundred (500) hours of work to
complete which was really long. We had our main office located at Dungon C,
Mandurriao, Iloilo City and we also have an office located at Commission Civil Street in
Jaro. We started our on-the-job training last November 14, 2017 and we ended February
16, 2018. We normally work 5 days a week with a minimum time of 8 hours per day just
to make sure that we will finish early to prepare for our practicum report. We are
scheduled to work from Mondays to Fridays and sometimes Saturdays. Our morning time
starts at 8:00am until 12:00noon then after our lunch break, in the afternoon we start at
1:00pm until 5:30pm.
During our very first meeting with our supervisors, we had an orientation about
the company. Ma’am Mica and Sir Chad, our supervisors told us about the history of the
company and why did they started that kind of business. They also told us about
themselves, so it was more like of a getting to know with each other stage. They always
say that to never get stressed with our on-the-job training and just enjoy everything.
Our environment there at Dungon C, Mandurriao was very big. Though coming
there is hard due to the fact that it is located inside a village where no jeepneys can load
or unload passengers. Both the offices at Dungon C, Mandurriao and at Commission
Civil are pleasant and it can make their employees really work comfortably.

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK PERFORMED WHILE ON PRACTICUM
ASSIGNMENT
We arrived at the office early during our first day of on-the-job training. We met
both our supervisors, Ma’am Mica and Sir Chad. We felt really lucky to have them as our
supervisors because they were really nice and approachable. The office really looked
good, it was large and well ventilated. Each one of us had our own desk and our
supervisors as well. They first told us the history of the business and the things that we
will be doing. We were really listening because it was our first day and we don’t want to
get a bad impression with that early. We were on the adjusting stage that time because we
weren’t use to it.
For our first week, we were taught how to compute and encode the inventory.
They taught us a lot of things which we get as well. They were really not that strict, yet
we still showed them that we were responsible and fast learners.
For the preceding weeks of my on-the-job training at MI Only Gadget Store. I
was helping my co-intern encoding the cash receipts, I also answered some telephone
calls and we composed a proposal letter, scanned important files, printed and emailed
6
documents for clients. We were also taught us how to use the Adobe Photoshop. Then we
created or designed flyers, made calling cards and more.
On the next month until I ended my on-the-job training, our supervisors instructed
us to keep track of the inventory. Each time a unit is released and new stocks arrives, we
immediately record them in the record book and encode them in the inventory sheet using
excel.
These are just some of the work I performed during my almost two and a half of
training at MI Only Gadget Store. It really helped me a lot, for it made me even more
responsible to the things or tasks I have. Made me understand what the real world is all
about. The world outside the university. Made my value time even more and gave me the
opportunity to work with other professionals.
PRINCIPLES, CONCEPTS AND SKILLS FROM MAJOR FIELD USED WHILE
DOING WORK
To be an effective employee is very crucial in a business, this helps in tackling
problems by remaining focused at work and being able to overcome challenging
situations which a company may encounter. This helps in building the company or
business to be more efficient than before. To be an effective employee, one needs to have
both personal and professional skills. As an intern or trainee, it is very important for us to
have good communication skills, especially with other employees, staffs and co-interns
as well. This helps on conveying or sharing ideas. Listening skills is also part of our
communication skills. A communication never starts without getting any no feedback, or
ignoring the feedback one may have given. I have learned that in order to improve one
7
person’s communication skill, one should think that there should be no barriers in
communicating with the other employees, staffs and even with your co-interns. The more
communication existing in a workplace, the more ideas are being shared. Our skills in
communicating with others increase through phone calls, emails, face-to-face,
presentations and meetings.
Office Equipment Management was also a huge part of performing our tasks at
the office. Being in an office environment means you will also use the office equipment.
We learned from the university the equipment found at the office because of that, we
were not really that ignorant about it.
Having integrity should also be a main priority for each employee to have or
obtain. I learned from the university that students should always keep in their minds to
follow the things, they think is right and not the things they think is best.
Your behaviours at work should also be applied. You should learn how to adapt
and adjust in any situations. You will meet a lot of different personalities. Being punctual
is one way of showing to the employees that you are very responsible which can become
a plus factor to your supervisors or boss. As aspiring professionals in the near future, we
should always be flexible and considerate to the things around us.
The term confidentiality. As an intern of your chosen company, you are asked to
do things for the company. Private matters in the company must remain private. I learned
from the university that disclosures of confidential matters must remain inside the
company.
In every workplace, it is always good if employees possess initiative, in our case,
without even being asked to do a task, we would gather or arrange the files properly
8
before leaving the office. Then when we arrive the next day we are inspired to work well
because the office is clean. Aside from this, if one of us needs help we assist each other.
MAJOR LEARNINGS FROM YOUR PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE
During my on-the-job training or internship at MI Only Gadget Store, I have
proven to myself that experience really is the best teacher. I have experienced the things
that I never imagined of doing. Learning from my experience made me very effective and
efficient. It enhanced my character as a person. It has also given me the chance to really
feel what it is like to become an employee of a company.
In terms of learnings I had during my on-the-job-training, the very first thing that
came into my mind was being punctual. Time is really gold for each business. You have
to make use of all the time you have in you and not waste it. Then I learned that you
should always love what you are doing or what you will do. For it is really a big part to
whatever future you will have.
People must also keep in their minds to always work or strive hard to reach
whatever goals they want to achieve. It is not the money that you are working for, but it is
the sense of responsibility that each person develops in every work they perform.
Each of us should also abide the rules and regulations not just in the company or
business we are employed with, but to the government law as well. Following the rules
and regulations help maintain a safe, organized and stable working environment.
Patience in every aspect in life should also be enhanced. Having patience despite
all the delays. We should also learn from our mistakes. Learning from our mistakes can
help us obtain a good character for better opportunities as a whole.
9
As time goes, I had generated enough insights and realizations upon our overall
on-the-job training experience. It made me become a more responsible individual. It also
showed me a better picture of the reality. It made me understand the importance of work
for a person, all its components, the behaviours I should show and the environment itself.
It uncovered my capabilities that are yet known to me until all the experiences I had.
Success in life can be achieved as long as you have in you the desire, devotion
and a tremendous amount of dedication. Having a desire towards your goals and by being
a devoted person can be a remarkable way to achieve success. But most importantly by
having dedication towards your accomplishments is the most effective way to achieve
greatness. Not every person in this world possess these skills. People should always work
hard to gain the best for themselves and their families as well. No one should take
success easily. I find it really unfair for people to have success in them through cheating.
PERSONAL FEELINGS AND OBSERVATIONS
My time at the company named MI Only Gadget Store was very fun and truly
awesome. I can still remember the very first time we met the people in the office. I was
very shy and afraid to really commit mistakes back then. I got to meet a lot of different
faces and personalities from my on-the-job training. I learned so much that I am sure will
help not just me but also my co-interns in the near future. The people there are very nice
and are very accommodating. They showed me all the patience they had when they were
teaching me all the complicated things. What I have observed is that everyone there is
different, yet they still discovered a way to socialize with others despite their high
positions.
10
All this on-the-job training experience has greatly improved me as a person. It has
shown me the things that I myself wasn’t familiar with. Despite the everyday challenges
we three had in this company. We were very lucky to have done our training in this
company and we will surely miss each work we performed in this company.
They don’t pressure me and my co-interns to do something perfect. That is what I
like with my supervisors. They know that mistakes are bound to happen and I think that
that’s a quality that everybody should possess, a quality of being a human because being
human means committing mistakes, mistakes that are then turned into lessons which will
further nurture a person’s well-being and mind. To be human means to allow
imperfections and to accept it for what it is.
I’m very grateful that I had my on-the-job training at MI Only Gadget Store. They
exposed not just me but also my co-interns on what we must know regarding whichever
suits our courses or whatever career in the near future we will choose. I’m very thankful
as well that they treated me like them and they trusted me with my work. I appreciate
how much the working environment I had within the company because it helped me
absorb what I needed to know, the things that I can use when I get a job. The everyday
experiences I had with MI Only Gadget Store are really most treasured. All the
knowledge I obtained here are beyond comparable than any other experiences I acquired
from the university and the supplementary learning from our books. This experience was
overwhelming. Nothing compares to the knowledge that it has given me. Though it felt
really hard at first, but you should always look at the bright side and not let stress affect
you. Learn how to love each of your work and at the end it will just be easy for you. This
experience is for keeps. Thank You and God Bless.

COMPANY PROFILE
“YOUR SECURITY IS OUR OUTMOST PRIORITY”
MI Only Gadget Store is a newly established SME, a provider of
advanced video surveillance solutions in the Philippines. MI Store offers CCTV Camera,
IP Camera, NVR (Network Video Recorder), DVR(Digital Video Recorder), Wireless
CCTV Camera, Drones, and Dash Camera.
We develop long term relationships with our suppliers and directly
import our products so our overhead costs are kept to a minimum. This allows us to offer
competitive pricing without sacrificing product quality.
When we install a home security camera, we gain increased house
safety. Just like that, the main benefit of surveillance cameras in public spaces is also the
increase of public safety. CCTV Cameras help you stay safe while clubbing, shopping,
and travelling cameras can be used as a way to keep an eye out for any crimes that are
being committed.
As it is, there are strict laws that govern the installation of CCTV cameras on
premises, and the public have the right to see footage of themselves held by a company
12
who has filmed them. Those filmed records cannot be held indefinitely, and by law must
be destroyed as soon as a reasonable period of time has elapsed. The record of our
movements will not be used against us unless a crime has been committed, and the use of
such footage in criminal cases must be authorized by a judge.
There are safeguards in place, in other words, such as that we should feel
confident that we are not being “spied on” gratuitously by the state or commercial
organizations. We are free to wander at will and behave as we wish, providing we act
within the law.
HISTORY
MI Central Corporation (MICC) is a family owned corporation of the
Martirez Family. This corporation’s product is mainly insurance. Insurance is a contract,
presented by a policy, in which an individual or entity receives financial protection or
reimbursement against losses from an insurance company. It is a risk-transfer mechanism
that ensures full or partial financial compensation for the loss or damaged caused by
events beyond the control of the insurance party. Under an insurance contract, a party(the
insurer) indemnifies the other party(the insured) against a specified amount of loss,
occurring from specified eventualities within a specified period, provided a fee called
premium is paid. In general Insurance, compensation is normally proportionate to the loss
incurred, whereas in life insurance usually a fixed sum is paid. It has a lot of agents that
do their dealings. The corporation considered all the agents part of its family and it
practices good will, conducts seminar related to insurance regarding on how they will be
benefited.
13
MICC is the “Mother Company” of MI Only Gadget Store (MI Store).
For over the years, the owner finally decided that having another branch with different
name will broaden the influence of the company. MI Only Gadget Store is managed by
Monica Martirez and Chad Doromal. MI Only Gadget Store was established on the
month of August in the year 2017. Another business associated with MI Store is the BPO
business. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is a subset of outsourcing that involves
contracting the operations and responsibilities for a particular business process to a third-
party service provider. It is typically categorized into back office outsourcing-which
includes internal business functions such as human resources or finance and accounting,
and front office outsourcing-which includes customer-related services such as contract
center services. The Philippines is one of the top BPO providers in the world. The largest
global BPO companies have operations in the country, but there’s still plenty of room for
smaller-scale operations. MI Store is typically a CCTV Cameras Store.
CCTV (Close-circuit television) is defined as a TV system in which
signals are privately monitored, primarily for surveillance and security, on a specific and
limited number of screens.
CCTV relies on strategic placement of cameras and private observation
of the camera’s input on monitors. The system called “closed-circuit” because the
cameras, monitors and/or video recorder communicate across a proprietary coaxial cable
run or wireless communication link. Access to data transmissions is limited by design.
CCTV is commonly used for a variety of purposes, including:
 Maintaining perimeter security
14
 Monitoring traffic
 Obtaining a visual record of human activity.
In the Philippines, these Closed Circuit Television Systems has only
been introduced and used widely just several years ago. Several cities are now requiring
businesses to install now being required to install security systems in the respective areas.
Currently, both businesses and barangays are obligated to install CCTV through
ordinances that their local officials implement in their cities or provinces.
The company provides customer support service (troubleshoot),
installment, quotations (allocating the given amount of money or budget to selected
units of CCTV Cameras). MI Store has a strong team of sales associates aiming to
maximize values for customers.2
MI Store has established sales, marketing and service network
throughout Panay, responding to the market with best service and products. For only
a little amount of time MI Store differentiates itself by distributing high quality
products all over Panay, coupled with highly trained technical team to support our
valued clients.
The company participate in a public bidding to further propagate
security in our surrounding. Protection is our no. 1 priority to offer to clients. Public
Bidding can be a competitive process for contractors, unlike private bidding. To
participate in a public bid, a qualified contractor needs to be on top of their game by
having all their paperwork in order and submitted by a certain deadline. We’ve listed
the advantages and disadvantages of public bidding to assist contractors who are
deciding whether or not it’s worth it to make a public bid.
15
Bid contract awards may be announced publicly, or they may be announced in
private. If the contract is announced publicly, the owner will open all of the bids and
announce each bid amount at a certain time and location. Typically the contract will
be awarded to the lowest responsible bid. There are both pros and cons to public
bidding.
Fairness is one of the biggest advantages of public bidding. Contractors want
to bid on a project where they have an equal chance of winning, and no bias. Another
advantage is that the process is open to all qualified bidders, ruling out
discrimination.
There are some significant pros to public bidding, it does come with a few
cons as well. While public bidding is accessible to prequalified contractors, it can
actually take days, weeks, or even months gathering the necessities to submit a
responsible bid. This preparation can take a long time, and comes with the risk of no
reward. A contractor can take months preparing his bid and there is no guarantee we
will be awarded the contract. Another disadvantage is the number of bidders that are
present. Since a public bid is typically open to any qualified contractor, it’s harder to
be the lowest bidder of the group.

proper time for each specific action. Honestly, we go to the office on or before 8:00 in
the morning to practice this important value.
REVIEW ON CCTV CAMERAS
Advantages of CCTV Cameras
 Customers entering a shop who know that CCTV is continuously monitoring a
hospital waiting room are less likely to assault staff.
 CCTV makes all our lives safer
 Householders feel safer and more protected if they have CCTV Security
Systems installed in their homes.
 It can spot accidents as they happen and send help immediately.
23
 Businesses, and with them livelihoods, are protected from theft and
monetary loss by the use of CCTV Security Systems.
Disadvantages of CCTV Cameras
 It can be a costly affair
 While dummy cameras may not be expensive, the real ones costs
hundreds, even thousands of pesos depending on the features and number
of cameras and monitoring systems you buy. Getting them installed and
their maintenance means added costs. If you’re thinking of installing them
yourself, lay that idea to rest unless you have good knowledge of wiring
systems or you may end up damaging the cameras
 They can be vulnerable
 When we, as users of security cameras, try to keep ourselves updated on
the latest in security systems, we should not forget that intruders and
animals are doing the same too. A clever trespasser will probably know all
about them and may have figured out a way to go undetected.
 Can’t stop theft
 Cameras enable users to record footage for later viewing, and to help nab
criminals, and receive justice from the law they cannot, however, stop a
crime when it is in program. They do not alert neighbours or the police
like an alarm system would. This means that you will incur losses even as
you run to court, make insurance claims and reorder stolen inventory,
24
which may no longer make you feel absolutely safe and even cause you to
lose faith in them.

PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED IN THE WORKPLACE
 Lack of Manpower.
Manpower shortages can result in production shortfalls or the inability to
meet the needs of our customers and as well as our employees. A lack of adequate
manpower prevents business from completing tasks. They have made many
computer works and transaction every day.
 Supplies are not organized.
The cabinets for files and supplies are poorly organized. Some of the files
are not separated by dates. Whenever there is an urgent need for something, the
staffs find it hard to search for the thing. This consumes much of their time.
 Improper allocation of food in the canteen and the lack of supervision.
Eating our lunch or snack is also an important part to our body and mind
to function well in the workplace. Limiting such necessity is supposed to be
unlikely. But the one thing I dislike during our stay in MI Only Gadget Store was
the inadequate supply of food and the improper division thereof. I understand that
the cook should put more importance to the employees’ part of the basket but the
OJT students should also be taken into consideration.
32
 The computer, printer, scanner are sometimes not working well.
These machines are commonly used in the office. They need some time
and attention to be adjusted and function well. It has to be resolve immediately.
This sometimes consumes much of our time when it malfunctions.
 Electricity Shortage at Dungon C Office sometimes.
This problem is sometimes very annoying we’ve experienced working on
a too detailed work on Adobe Photoshop and when we were almost done the
computer suddenly died. From that incident we had to start from the beginning
and it took all our time for the whole day.
These are some of the problems I have observed during my on-the-job
training at MI Only Gadget Store. There might be some which couldn’t be
resolved immediately and some of them require long-term application and
adjustments but I could still see room for improvements.
RECOMMENDATIONS
There are several recommendations to the problems I mentioned above
that I would like to suggest. These recommendations are not meant to, somehow,
prejudice nor offend MI Only Gadget Store where I did my on-the-job training.
To begin, MI Only Gadget Store should recruit or hire additional employees. The
more people available to work, the faster installations or transactions can be completed. If
companies do this, they can establish and maintain good client relationships.
33
With regards to the second problem, that the supplies are not that organized. I
strongly recommend to organize the files in the office. For future convenience and to
lessen the difficulty in finding the appropriate files. An annoying undertaking is when
examining or searching for the past files, checks or records for reviewing and this job
would be time-consuming especially when all the files are stocked in one tight narrow
unorganized room. Materials or supplies must be organized and arranged in the cabinet
according to their uses. There must be enough supplies of the materials so whenever there
is an urgent need for those things, the employees will not waste their time searching or
buying those to the nearest stores. The employees must keep track of the availability of
the supplies.
As for the problem of improper allocation of budget for the food in the canteen and
lack of supervision. What I would suggest to the company is that, they should take this
into consideration. That there are also on-the-job trainees in the company. This would
also reduce the risk of the employees and students going outside the office and improve
the image of the cooperatives.
Next is for the equipment problems. Every equipment like printers, scanners and most
especially computers should be properly maintained and clean if possible replace in a
certain point, and as for the computers should be replaced immediately, if not , this would
really affect the working time when the computer that is being used malfunction
sometimes. Also we highly suggest that the printers and scanners be fixed, if not, be
replaced as well. These two are important as well especially if you have an urgent file to
put in the computer you just have to scan it.
34
Lastly, electricity is somewhat important in every workplace. It keeps your
employees work well for the reasons that they are well ventilated and they feel
comfortable and relaxed. But when we were still at Dungon C, we’ve experience working
on a too detailed work using Adobe Photoshop using a computer and all of a sudden the
computer died. It took all our time to work again that is why we highly recommend that
they should check the voltage or electricity to avoid shortage of electricity.

MI Only Gadget Store Practicum Report

  • 1. MI Only Gadget Store A Practicum Report Presented to The Faculty of the College of Business and Accountancy Central Philippines University Jaro, Iloilo City In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for BPrac100 Submitted to: Prof. Sylvia D. Enriquez Adviser Submitted by: Andrei Von E. Deypalubos BSBAFM - 4 MARCH 2018

  • 5. INRODUCTION People really cannot grow without any experience. As the saying says “You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, I lived through this honour. I can take the next thing that comes along.” by Eleanor Roosevelt. Students are studying to learn or to have the necessity of education, to allow themselves to see how ‘this and that’ works for them to know how to make decisions by themselves and to know the different aspects of life. Studying is more effective with experience. “Experience is always a good source of knowledge”. Another quote that really connects to students having their on-the-job training. Having a good foundation of experiences from your past will truly help you to adapt worst things that could happen or things that may block your way towards your goals. One important way for Central Philippine University (CPU) to prepare us students for the professional life of being an adult is by having us undergo an On-the-job training. A course at our chosen corporation or company that fit their standards within a specific number of hours. By having us go through such training, they equip us with the minimum knowledge of the world outside the university. Sharpening our premature skills that can help us in the future when we leave the university and follow our chosen career path.
  • 6. 2 A. PURPOSE OF PRACTICUM The College of Business and Accountancy requires all graduating students to undergo through an on-the-job training. Its main purpose it to prepare their students to the world outside the university. To apply all the learnings they had from their past years. Students like me, a financial management student has to complete a total of five hundred (500) hours of training in an actual operating company. The importance of on-the-job training from all views is to prepare and develop our young minds to become professionals and excel in our chosen field. On-the-job training, or otherwise known as Internship, gives students the background on actual workplace situations. Through this, it enables a person to put his skills on the test and apply what he already learned. It also give students the chance to feel what it is like to be an employee. This program is an essential part of any course one chooses for it exposes the student or intern to outside factors that books cannot teach. It puts us students in an environment that is somewhat new to us for the time being, an environment that will soon be our everyday life. On-the-job training can help us students acquire the knowledge and skills we need through our performances at our chosen company. It provides real-world experience of direct practice and opportunities for us to become independent and self-sufficient. It makes us students realize the true meaning of time through punctuality. Teaches us to become obedient to protocols that are strictly being followed. It allows us to grow maturely with initiative and a sense of responsibility. Helps us become more thoughtful
  • 7. 3 and respectful to the people around us. This training also develop our technological ideas and social interactions with professionals. B. THE PLACE AND DATES OF WORK I did my training at a company named MI Only Gadget Store. Together with my co-interns Miana and Kristine. We were given five hundred (500) hours of work to complete which was really long. We had our main office located at Dungon C, Mandurriao, Iloilo City and we also have an office located at Commission Civil Street in Jaro. We started our on-the-job training last November 14, 2017 and we ended February 16, 2018. We normally work 5 days a week with a minimum time of 8 hours per day just to make sure that we will finish early to prepare for our practicum report. We are scheduled to work from Mondays to Fridays and sometimes Saturdays. Our morning time starts at 8:00am until 12:00noon then after our lunch break, in the afternoon we start at 1:00pm until 5:30pm. During our very first meeting with our supervisors, we had an orientation about the company. Ma’am Mica and Sir Chad, our supervisors told us about the history of the company and why did they started that kind of business. They also told us about themselves, so it was more like of a getting to know with each other stage. They always say that to never get stressed with our on-the-job training and just enjoy everything. Our environment there at Dungon C, Mandurriao was very big. Though coming there is hard due to the fact that it is located inside a village where no jeepneys can load or unload passengers. Both the offices at Dungon C, Mandurriao and at Commission Civil are pleasant and it can make their employees really work comfortably.

The office really looked good, it was large and well ventilated. Each one of us had our own desk and our supervisors as well. They first told us the history of the business and the things that we will be doing. We were really listening because it was our first day and we don’t want to get a bad impression with that early. We were on the adjusting stage that time because we weren’t use to it. For our first week, we were taught how to compute and encode the inventory. They taught us a lot of things which we get as well. They were really not that strict, yet we still showed them that we were responsible and fast learners. For the preceding weeks of my on-the-job training at MI Only Gadget Store. I was helping my co-intern encoding the cash receipts, I also answered some telephone calls and we composed a proposal letter, scanned important files, printed and emailed
  • 10. 6 documents for clients. We were also taught us how to use the Adobe Photoshop. Then we created or designed flyers, made calling cards and more. On the next month until I ended my on-the-job training, our supervisors instructed us to keep track of the inventory. Each time a unit is released and new stocks arrives, we immediately record them in the record book and encode them in the inventory sheet using excel. These are just some of the work I performed during my almost two and a half of training at MI Only Gadget Store. It really helped me a lot, for it made me even more responsible to the things or tasks I have. Made me understand what the real world is all about. The world outside the university. Made my value time even more and gave me the opportunity to work with other professionals. PRINCIPLES, CONCEPTS AND SKILLS FROM MAJOR FIELD USED WHILE DOING WORK To be an effective employee is very crucial in a business, this helps in tackling problems by remaining focused at work and being able to overcome challenging situations which a company may encounter. This helps in building the company or business to be more efficient than before. To be an effective employee, one needs to have both personal and professional skills. As an intern or trainee, it is very important for us to have good communication skills, especially with other employees, staffs and co-interns as well. This helps on conveying or sharing ideas. Listening skills is also part of our communication skills. A communication never starts without getting any no feedback, or ignoring the feedback one may have given. I have learned that in order to improve one
  • 11. 7 person’s communication skill, one should think that there should be no barriers in communicating with the other employees, staffs and even with your co-interns. The more communication existing in a workplace, the more ideas are being shared. Our skills in communicating with others increase through phone calls, emails, face-to-face, presentations and meetings. Office Equipment Management was also a huge part of performing our tasks at the office. Being in an office environment means you will also use the office equipment. We learned from the university the equipment found at the office because of that, we were not really that ignorant about it. Having integrity should also be a main priority for each employee to have or obtain. I learned from the university that students should always keep in their minds to follow the things, they think is right and not the things they think is best. Your behaviours at work should also be applied. You should learn how to adapt and adjust in any situations. You will meet a lot of different personalities. Being punctual is one way of showing to the employees that you are very responsible which can become a plus factor to your supervisors or boss. As aspiring professionals in the near future, we should always be flexible and considerate to the things around us. The term confidentiality. As an intern of your chosen company, you are asked to do things for the company. Private matters in the company must remain private. I learned from the university that disclosures of confidential matters must remain inside the company. In every workplace, it is always good if employees possess initiative, in our case, without even being asked to do a task, we would gather or arrange the files properly
  • 12. 8 before leaving the office. Then when we arrive the next day we are inspired to work well because the office is clean. Aside from this, if one of us needs help we assist each other. MAJOR LEARNINGS FROM YOUR PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE During my on-the-job training or internship at MI Only Gadget Store, I have proven to myself that experience really is the best teacher. I have experienced the things that I never imagined of doing. Learning from my experience made me very effective and efficient. It enhanced my character as a person. It has also given me the chance to really feel what it is like to become an employee of a company. In terms of learnings I had during my on-the-job-training, the very first thing that came into my mind was being punctual. Time is really gold for each business. You have to make use of all the time you have in you and not waste it. Then I learned that you should always love what you are doing or what you will do. For it is really a big part to whatever future you will have. People must also keep in their minds to always work or strive hard to reach whatever goals they want to achieve. It is not the money that you are working for, but it is the sense of responsibility that each person develops in every work they perform. Each of us should also abide the rules and regulations not just in the company or business we are employed with, but to the government law as well. Following the rules and regulations help maintain a safe, organized and stable working environment. Patience in every aspect in life should also be enhanced. Having patience despite all the delays. We should also learn from our mistakes. Learning from our mistakes can help us obtain a good character for better opportunities as a whole.
  • 13. 9 As time goes, I had generated enough insights and realizations upon our overall on-the-job training experience. It made me become a more responsible individual. It also showed me a better picture of the reality. It made me understand the importance of work for a person, all its components, the behaviours I should show and the environment itself. It uncovered my capabilities that are yet known to me until all the experiences I had. Success in life can be achieved as long as you have in you the desire, devotion and a tremendous amount of dedication. Having a desire towards your goals and by being a devoted person can be a remarkable way to achieve success. But most importantly by having dedication towards your accomplishments is the most effective way to achieve greatness. Not every person in this world possess these skills. People should always work hard to gain the best for themselves and their families as well. No one should take success easily. I find it really unfair for people to have success in them through cheating. PERSONAL FEELINGS AND OBSERVATIONS My time at the company named MI Only Gadget Store was very fun and truly awesome. I can still remember the very first time we met the people in the office. I was very shy and afraid to really commit mistakes back then. I got to meet a lot of different faces and personalities from my on-the-job training. I learned so much that I am sure will help not just me but also my co-interns in the near future. The people there are very nice and are very accommodating. They showed me all the patience they had when they were teaching me all the complicated things. What I have observed is that everyone there is different, yet they still discovered a way to socialize with others despite their high positions.
  • 14. 10 All this on-the-job training experience has greatly improved me as a person. It has shown me the things that I myself wasn’t familiar with. Despite the everyday challenges we three had in this company. We were very lucky to have done our training in this company and we will surely miss each work we performed in this company. They don’t pressure me and my co-interns to do something perfect. That is what I like with my supervisors. They know that mistakes are bound to happen and I think that that’s a quality that everybody should possess, a quality of being a human because being human means committing mistakes, mistakes that are then turned into lessons which will further nurture a person’s well-being and mind. To be human means to allow imperfections and to accept it for what it is. I’m very grateful that I had my on-the-job training at MI Only Gadget Store. They exposed not just me but also my co-interns on what we must know regarding whichever suits our courses or whatever career in the near future we will choose. I’m very thankful as well that they treated me like them and they trusted me with my work. I appreciate how much the working environment I had within the company because it helped me absorb what I needed to know, the things that I can use when I get a job. The everyday experiences I had with MI Only Gadget Store are really most treasured. All the knowledge I obtained here are beyond comparable than any other experiences I acquired from the university and the supplementary learning from our books. This experience was overwhelming. Nothing compares to the knowledge that it has given me. Though it felt really hard at first, but you should always look at the bright side and not let stress affect you. Learn how to love each of your work and at the end it will just be easy for you. This experience is for keeps. Thank You and God Bless.
  • 15. 11 COMPANY PROFILE “YOUR SECURITY IS OUR OUTMOST PRIORITY” MI Only Gadget Store is a newly established SME, a provider of advanced video surveillance solutions in the Philippines. MI Store offers CCTV Camera, IP Camera, NVR (Network Video Recorder), DVR(Digital Video Recorder), Wireless CCTV Camera, Drones, and Dash Camera. We develop long term relationships with our suppliers and directly import our products so our overhead costs are kept to a minimum. This allows us to offer competitive pricing without sacrificing product quality. When we install a home security camera, we gain increased house safety. Just like that, the main benefit of surveillance cameras in public spaces is also the increase of public safety. CCTV Cameras help you stay safe while clubbing, shopping, and travelling cameras can be used as a way to keep an eye out for any crimes that are being committed. As it is, there are strict laws that govern the installation of CCTV cameras on premises, and the public have the right to see footage of themselves held by a company
  • 16. 12 who has filmed them. Those filmed records cannot be held indefinitely, and by law must be destroyed as soon as a reasonable period of time has elapsed. The record of our movements will not be used against us unless a crime has been committed, and the use of such footage in criminal cases must be authorized by a judge. There are safeguards in place, in other words, such as that we should feel confident that we are not being “spied on” gratuitously by the state or commercial organizations. We are free to wander at will and behave as we wish, providing we act within the law. HISTORY MI Central Corporation (MICC) is a family owned corporation of the Martirez Family. This corporation’s product is mainly insurance. Insurance is a contract, presented by a policy, in which an individual or entity receives financial protection or reimbursement against losses from an insurance company. It is a risk-transfer mechanism that ensures full or partial financial compensation for the loss or damaged caused by events beyond the control of the insurance party. Under an insurance contract, a party(the insurer) indemnifies the other party(the insured) against a specified amount of loss, occurring from specified eventualities within a specified period, provided a fee called premium is paid. In general Insurance, compensation is normally proportionate to the loss incurred, whereas in life insurance usually a fixed sum is paid. It has a lot of agents that do their dealings. The corporation considered all the agents part of its family and it practices good will, conducts seminar related to insurance regarding on how they will be benefited.
  • 17. 13 MICC is the “Mother Company” of MI Only Gadget Store (MI Store). For over the years, the owner finally decided that having another branch with different name will broaden the influence of the company. MI Only Gadget Store is managed by Monica Martirez and Chad Doromal. MI Only Gadget Store was established on the month of August in the year 2017. Another business associated with MI Store is the BPO business. Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is a subset of outsourcing that involves contracting the operations and responsibilities for a particular business process to a third- party service provider. It is typically categorized into back office outsourcing-which includes internal business functions such as human resources or finance and accounting, and front office outsourcing-which includes customer-related services such as contract center services. The Philippines is one of the top BPO providers in the world. The largest global BPO companies have operations in the country, but there’s still plenty of room for smaller-scale operations. MI Store is typically a CCTV Cameras Store. CCTV (Close-circuit television) is defined as a TV system in which signals are privately monitored, primarily for surveillance and security, on a specific and limited number of screens. CCTV relies on strategic placement of cameras and private observation of the camera’s input on monitors. The system called “closed-circuit” because the cameras, monitors and/or video recorder communicate across a proprietary coaxial cable run or wireless communication link. Access to data transmissions is limited by design. CCTV is commonly used for a variety of purposes, including:  Maintaining perimeter security
  • 18. 14  Monitoring traffic  Obtaining a visual record of human activity. In the Philippines, these Closed Circuit Television Systems has only been introduced and used widely just several years ago. Several cities are now requiring businesses to install now being required to install security systems in the respective areas. Currently, both businesses and barangays are obligated to install CCTV through ordinances that their local officials implement in their cities or provinces. The company provides customer support service (troubleshoot), installment, quotations (allocating the given amount of money or budget to selected units of CCTV Cameras). MI Store has a strong team of sales associates aiming to maximize values for customers.2 MI Store has established sales, marketing and service network throughout Panay, responding to the market with best service and products. For only a little amount of time MI Store differentiates itself by distributing high quality products all over Panay, coupled with highly trained technical team to support our valued clients. The company participate in a public bidding to further propagate security in our surrounding. Protection is our no. 1 priority to offer to clients. Public Bidding can be a competitive process for contractors, unlike private bidding. To participate in a public bid, a qualified contractor needs to be on top of their game by having all their paperwork in order and submitted by a certain deadline. We’ve listed the advantages and disadvantages of public bidding to assist contractors who are deciding whether or not it’s worth it to make a public bid.
  • 19. 15 Bid contract awards may be announced publicly, or they may be announced in private. If the contract is announced publicly, the owner will open all of the bids and announce each bid amount at a certain time and location. Typically the contract will be awarded to the lowest responsible bid. There are both pros and cons to public bidding. Fairness is one of the biggest advantages of public bidding. Contractors want to bid on a project where they have an equal chance of winning, and no bias. Another advantage is that the process is open to all qualified bidders, ruling out discrimination. There are some significant pros to public bidding, it does come with a few cons as well. While public bidding is accessible to prequalified contractors, it can actually take days, weeks, or even months gathering the necessities to submit a responsible bid. This preparation can take a long time, and comes with the risk of no reward. A contractor can take months preparing his bid and there is no guarantee we will be awarded the contract. Another disadvantage is the number of bidders that are present. Since a public bid is typically open to any qualified contractor, it’s harder to be the lowest bidder of the group. We don’t need to waste our time and we should have proper time for each specific action. Honestly, we go to the office on or before 8:00 in the morning to practice this important value. REVIEW ON CCTV CAMERAS Advantages of CCTV Cameras  Customers entering a shop who know that CCTV is continuously monitoring a hospital waiting room are less likely to assault staff.  CCTV makes all our lives safer  Householders feel safer and more protected if they have CCTV Security Systems installed in their homes.  It can spot accidents as they happen and send help immediately.
  • 27. 23  Businesses, and with them livelihoods, are protected from theft and monetary loss by the use of CCTV Security Systems. Disadvantages of CCTV Cameras  It can be a costly affair  While dummy cameras may not be expensive, the real ones costs hundreds, even thousands of pesos depending on the features and number of cameras and monitoring systems you buy. Getting them installed and their maintenance means added costs. If you’re thinking of installing them yourself, lay that idea to rest unless you have good knowledge of wiring systems or you may end up damaging the cameras  They can be vulnerable  When we, as users of security cameras, try to keep ourselves updated on the latest in security systems, we should not forget that intruders and animals are doing the same too. A clever trespasser will probably know all about them and may have figured out a way to go undetected.  Can’t stop theft  Cameras enable users to record footage for later viewing, and to help nab criminals, and receive justice from the law they cannot, however, stop a crime when it is in program. They do not alert neighbours or the police like an alarm system would. This means that you will incur losses even as you run to court, make insurance claims and reorder stolen inventory,

  • 35. 31  Troubleshoot  Basic instruction included upon payment PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED IN THE WORKPLACE  Lack of Manpower. Manpower shortages can result in production shortfalls or the inability to meet the needs of our customers and as well as our employees. A lack of adequate manpower prevents business from completing tasks. They have made many computer works and transaction every day.  Supplies are not organized. The cabinets for files and supplies are poorly organized. Some of the files are not separated by dates. Whenever there is an urgent need for something, the staffs find it hard to search for the thing. This consumes much of their time.  Improper allocation of food in the canteen and the lack of supervision. Eating our lunch or snack is also an important part to our body and mind to function well in the workplace. Limiting such necessity is supposed to be unlikely. But the one thing I dislike during our stay in MI Only Gadget Store was the inadequate supply of food and the improper division thereof. I understand that the cook should put more importance to the employees’ part of the basket but the OJT students should also be taken into consideration.
  • 36. 32  The computer, printer, scanner are sometimes not working well. These machines are commonly used in the office. They need some time and attention to be adjusted and function well. It has to be resolve immediately. This sometimes consumes much of our time when it malfunctions.  Electricity Shortage at Dungon C Office sometimes. This problem is sometimes very annoying we’ve experienced working on a too detailed work on Adobe Photoshop and when we were almost done the computer suddenly died. From that incident we had to start from the beginning and it took all our time for the whole day. These are some of the problems I have observed during my on-the-job training at MI Only Gadget Store. There might be some which couldn’t be resolved immediately and some of them require long-term application and adjustments but I could still see room for improvements. RECOMMENDATIONS There are several recommendations to the problems I mentioned above that I would like to suggest. These recommendations are not meant to, somehow, prejudice nor offend MI Only Gadget Store where I did my on-the-job training. To begin, MI Only Gadget Store should recruit or hire additional employees. The more people available to work, the faster installations or transactions can be completed. If companies do this, they can establish and maintain good client relationships.
  • 37. 33 With regards to the second problem, that the supplies are not that organized. I strongly recommend to organize the files in the office. For future convenience and to lessen the difficulty in finding the appropriate files. An annoying undertaking is when examining or searching for the past files, checks or records for reviewing and this job would be time-consuming especially when all the files are stocked in one tight narrow unorganized room. Materials or supplies must be organized and arranged in the cabinet according to their uses. There must be enough supplies of the materials so whenever there is an urgent need for those things, the employees will not waste their time searching or buying those to the nearest stores. The employees must keep track of the availability of the supplies. As for the problem of improper allocation of budget for the food in the canteen and lack of supervision. What I would suggest to the company is that, they should take this into consideration. That there are also on-the-job trainees in the company. This would also reduce the risk of the employees and students going outside the office and improve the image of the cooperatives. Next is for the equipment problems. Every equipment like printers, scanners and most especially computers should be properly maintained and clean if possible replace in a certain point, and as for the computers should be replaced immediately, if not , this would really affect the working time when the computer that is being used malfunction sometimes. Also we highly suggest that the printers and scanners be fixed, if not, be replaced as well. These two are important as well especially if you have an urgent file to put in the computer you just have to scan it.
  • 38. 34 Lastly, electricity is somewhat important in every workplace. It keeps your employees work well for the reasons that they are well ventilated and they feel comfortable and relaxed. But when we were still at Dungon C, we’ve experience working on a too detailed work using Adobe Photoshop using a computer and all of a sudden the computer died. It took all our time to work again that is why we highly recommend that they should check the voltage or electricity to avoid shortage of electricity.
