Designing Strategy and Structure

Quick Workshop Guide

Module 1: Getting Started provides an overview of the design process and
how to effectively involve people from the organisation in that process. We will answer:

     What is organisational design?
 What are the characteristics of dynamic, reconfigurable organisations?
 How do we know when to redesign?
 What are the steps in the design process?
 When and how should we involve others?

Module 2: Determining the Design Framework will help us identify
the desired future state, assess the current organisational structure, and determine
priorities for change. We will answer:

 How does the organisational strategy differentiate us in the marketplace?
 What specific organisational capabilities do we need to deliver on the strategy?
 How big is the gap from where we are today to where we want to be?

Module 3: Designing the Structure provides us a guide to choosing
structures and defining new organisational roles. We will answer:

 What are our options for organising work and people to best meet our strategic
      design criteria?
 How do we define the critical organisational and individual roles and clarify the
      interface among them?
 How should we structure participation for generating alternatives
 What can we do to keep the design momentum going?

Robert Trinajstic
Module 4: Processes and Lateral Capability focuses on how to build
strong horizontal connections through networks, processes, integrative roles, and team
and matrix structures. We will answer:

 How can we best coordinate work across business units?
 How can we create effective integrative mechanisms?

Module 5: Defining Success summarises recent thinking in the field of
performance management, metrics. We will answer:

 How do we measure performance at an individual, team, and organisational level?
 What are the values and behaviours that should define our culture?
