6. In patent law, a claim defines where the boundaries of patents begins and ends. The owner of the patent can
choose to negotiate a compromise, called a patent license, to allow a patent infringer to pay the owner royalties to
use your patentable ideas in the marketplace.

“By 1957 Kenner had saved enough money to her first ever patent: a belt for sanitary
napkins. It was long before the advent of disposable pads, and women were still using
cloth pads and rags during their period. Kenner proposed an adjustable belt with an
inbuilt, moisture-proof napkin pocket, making it less likely that menstrual blood could
leak and stain clothes.”
Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner (1912–2006) - Charlotte, North Carolina.

14. Some Examples
Sharing of portable initialized objects between computing platforms. (Filed Nov 2013 - Issued May 2018) For example, a VM may
receive a critical update notice. The VM may download and unpack the critical update to create an outlet. The VM may process and apply the outlet
at creation or at a later time. The VM may make the outlet available to other VM's of the same or similar configuration which may also
apply the update. Then other VM's in close peer network proximity can transfer the DOM already pre-parsed to their VM and begin
using the DOM. The second VM saves the time of downloading the update from a server and unpacking of the update. Close peer
network proximity includes mechanisms like Bluetooth, near field communication (NFC), peer-to-peer 802.11 wifi, wifi direct, or other means where
the two VM's can communicate directly. The use of close peer network connections may limit the usage and bandwidth of the larger non-peer
connected networks.
System and method for segmenting items in a shopping cart by carbon footprint. (Filed Apr 2014 - Issued May 2018) … a
shopping cart tool configured to provide a shopping cart for a shopper, an item tool configured to provide items for purchase and information about
the items for purchase in a shopping cart, a carbon footprint tool configured to determine a carbon footprint associated with an item, an
item search tool configured to search for items using at least one search criteria, an item complement tool configured to provide
substitute or complementary items which are displayed in the shopping cart for selection by the user, a carbon calculation tool
configured to calculate the total weight of carbon for the items placed in the cart, and a carbon offset tool configured to award a
carbon offset certificate for items in the cart. Further, the system comprises an item segmentation tool configured to segment items in the
shopping cart based on the carbon footprint associated with each item.
Method and apparatus for electromagnetic drying of printed media. (Filed Aug 2003 - Issued June 2005) …providing instant-on
and instant-off electromagnetic drying control which improves drying efficiency and reduces output power consumption, reduces
safety hazards, and provides uniform drying independent of ink color. Additionally, the electromagnetic drying unit provides attenuation
features used to substantially eliminate electromagnetic radiation outside of the drying unit. … receiving printed media through an input
opening, drying the printed media using an electric field formed within a resonant cavity, and passing the printed media through an
output opening. The input and output openings substantially attenuate the electromagnetic signal.
