My Journey to College Essay
My Journey to College
I first came to the university during spring break of my junior year of high school. At the time I
was just visiting the three main universities in Arizona so that I would be able to make an educated
decision as to where I wanted to get my college education. There were many events showing me the
way to this university and little did I know that these events would come upon me and that they
would show me the doors to the place where I was truly meant to be.
I had a small thought in mind of becoming a chef or something else in the hospitality field. My mom
had heard about NAU's hospitality college and informed me that it was within the top ten. During
our visit to NAU we met with and...show more content...
I then had the dilemma of deciding which dorm I wanted to apply for. This was a large decision for
me seeing as how I had never moved in my life and how this would be my new home for the next
year. I chose Rielly Hall which was the best I could do by looking at pictures online.
After being accepted my mom and I made another visit up to NAU so that I could see the
university with different eyes, eyes that new this was where the journey of my life was heading
next. We arrived at NAU and I was very excited to be on campus once again but with a completely
new perspective. I met with an HRM advisor and talked a little more about the program. At that
time I learned all about their study abroad program. From that information I decide that I wanted
not to just be a hotel and restaurant major but that I wanted to be a full International Hospitality
major. This was going to be a little more work than my original plan but I would get to study abroad
and experience so much culture.
After my meeting with the HRM advisor we headed over to the dorms to check them out. I ended
up walking past Sechrist Hall first and was approached by an NAU student who seemed to be
about a Junior and was an RA on one of the floors. As he approached me he said "Would you like
me to show you around the building". Even

Expectations And Expectations In College
Expectations and Goals As a new freshman, the next four years of my life can seem extremely
daunting, with huge possibilities as to the kind of person that I want to be when I graduate.
College is known as a transformation period in the life of a young adult, and I hope to take full
advantage of this time. By setting expectations and goals for myself, hopefully I can be
successful as I seek out the person that God wants me to be. I have set up, and outlined,
academic, spiritual, and personal goals to achieve my first semester here at college. For this
semester, I have set a high expectation for myself academically. Specifically, I would like to be
able to maintain all A's, and therefore a 4.0 GPA. If I am able to do this, and possibly continue it
on through all eight semesters of my college career, I will be a more competitive applicant for PA
school, or med school, or whatever post undergraduate schooling that my future entails. Not only
would achieving this goal be beneficial to my future career, I hope to honor Christ by working
hard in everything that I do, and this is one way that I can do that. This goal is measurable
because I can regularly check my grades to make sure that I am staying on track with each class
to attain this goal. I believe that getting all A's is also achievable is I remained focused and
driven, delegating ahead of time the study time that I will need to be successful in each of my
classes. For each hour that I spend in a class, I will plan on spending at least three hours outside of
class with the covered material to be successful. This can be realistic if I am careful to make sure
that I don't commit myself too heavily to extracurricular activities. While I will be checking my
grades weekly, half–way through the semester I will evaluate my study strategies, and whether they
were successful or need to be changed to stay on target. Ultimately, I would like to see myself
meet this goal at the end of the semester and carry the habits that I have learned to the rest of my
college career. Spiritually, I know that this time is quintessential in the establishing of my faith and
walk with Christ. My goal is to set habits and practices for myself that will help me grow spiritually.

How will college change my life
"How will college change my life?" Colleges are institutions of higher learning; I would go to
college simply to make more money. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future
working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of
learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth
workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of
study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working
world. Flexibility with learning and providing me with the option to choose what interests me, being
treated as an adult by taking responsibility for one's own actions...show more content...
As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between
a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in
life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally.
The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An
adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule
is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool.
College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set
a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's
help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the
best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree.
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and
expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to
me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a
chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can
develop life skills outside academics, to be fully

College: Is It Worth It? Essay
We are told to "go to college" by family, media, and teachers, but we are never given an
explanation on why it's important for us to get a higher education. The importance of higher
education is so we can obtain a career that can support our needs and wants. It's also important
because it gives you an advantage when trying to get a job. Employers require a higher form of
education, which is necessary for our society to advance. There aren't many jobs that accept people
with a high school diploma as their highest form of education. Employers want people that know
what they're doing, and so does our society. In order for people to go into the career field they want,
they need to go to college to learn everything that comes with that career....show more content...
What we get out of the college experience, we use in our day to day lives. Even the things we
think aren't important or useful end up becoming helpful. The material we learn in college is
fundamental when it comes jobs and life in general. We are taught to make choices. We are
taught how the real world works, and how to turn our education into our way of life. "...the really
significant education in thinking that we're supposed to get in a place like this isn't really about
the capacity to think, but rather about the choice of what to think about." (Wallace 199). Not
only do we get a lot out of getting a college degree in what we want to do, but so does our society.
There are requirements for every job for a reason. Jobs need people that specialize in just that
career field. They want us to be passionate about what we do and more importantly know exactly
what we are doing. For example, hospitals have no room for mistakes because not only may it cost
a life, it can also costs them money. We feel safer knowing people know how to do their jobs
right. College education is necessary whenever there is a shortage in certain careers. It's important
to have higher education so there can be growth and competition in our society. It takes money to
make money. It does cost a lot to pay for college, but in the end it's worth it. By the end of the
college process, we can have a college degree and could be getting

Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples
Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather
it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in
life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college
necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus
before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views
from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they
were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the

They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is
best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of
college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a
garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going
to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after
they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so
much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in
a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off
all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of
time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes
that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education
requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel
is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a
good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many
people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. As

The most important to me while attending the University is to graduate with honors. I know that I

means that I will have to complete all assignments, assuring accuracy and the quality of my work.
Assuring that I complete all assignments, I will also need to do all assignments before they are due.
This will allow me time to make sure that all corrections are done prior to me turning the

To help me along my journey to success, I have made two colorful, eye catching boards that I will

Pros And Cons Of College Essay
As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college.
This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for
everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people
who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest
growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going
for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect.
Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding
your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea
for any age student.
When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year
university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue.
Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only
require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the
experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college
experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein
believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. At a four–year, you may experience more
diversity, and

College Admission Essay: My Love for Learning
I dreamt of walking on Commonwealth Ave. I envisioned myself entering the Morse Auditorium,
books in hand, eager to learn. Ever since I had visited the eclectic city of Boston in 2006, I knew it
was the right fit for me. I knew that the city itself, along with the remarkable academic resources that
Boston University offers would allow me to grow socially and mentally. Until this day I ask
questions on end from my comrades at the BU, impatient to learn more and more about their
lives on and off campus. From all the feedback I have received I have come to one conclusion: BU
is the place where I will get a rich, broad background in all my studies. BU will give me the
foundation and preparation I will need to enter any field of study.

I was raised by two loving parents who taught me to always put my integrity before anything.
They taught me not to get caught up in the turmoil of the working world, but to honestly make
my way through any future quest. To some, being ethical is merely being proper and having
principles. But to me, in order to be ethical it is imperative for one to facilitate and help the
society in which one resides in. For this reason I have set myself on various missions to help those
in need. Traveling to Israel, I volunteered in soup kitchens and hospitals, in orphanages and in an
Ethiopian absorption center. I also aided in the building of a bomb shelter. Traveling to London, I
helped out at the St. Bartholomew's Hospital. Traveling to New Orleans, I volunteered at a mobile
medical clinic. Consequently, I believe I am truly an ethical person.
Curious. Curious for what? Curious for life. Curious for people. Curious of Knowledge. Curiosity
is an attribute of mine in which I attain. To some I may be the exasperating girl in class who asks
the teacher too many questions. However, to me I am the girl who desires to learn beyond the
traditional classroom education. As a child, I would constantly point to assorted objects and query
my mother "Ma, what is this. Where dis' come from?" Today, disparate from when I was a child, I
coherently question my mom. To some questions she

Personal Growth in College Essay
So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better
person on many occasions. I have learned to be more responsible, when it comes down to getting
work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high
school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be
successful in college. When you reach college then is the time that you become an adult.
First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many
different ways. I had to change my study habits, or should I say I have to get study habits. I high

That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're
on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you what to do, you make your own decisions when
it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to
wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus.
Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school;
you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying
for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College
is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second
year I understand what I have to do to finish school. I understand more and more why education is
a major issue in life, especially a college education. Entering college you have to change your game
plan to get where you want to be in life.
In conclusion, the college experience has made me a changed person. It has made me a changed
person for the better. I have learned a lot, I have learned responsibility. Without responsibility in
college you will not make very far. You must get your work done, and be punctual. You must make
the right decisions, don't let peer pressure get to you, try to avoid it. Don't let college change you for

College Is An Opportunity That Changes Your Life
A place were you can fulfill all your dreams in a span of two to four years...Filled with diversity,
acceptance from others, and different environments...Online learning or learning in person...College
sums up all of these different assumptions and options. College is an opportunity that changes your
life no matter if it is a four–year college or a two–year community college. In some cases, you need
to study certain majors in that you feel are necessary for particular careers. However, college may
not be for you. Many of you would rather go into the army, instead of spending your time and
patience in a place were you feel as if you don't belong. College is a great option for some people,
but is not always the route everyone should take. College is what you make of it, but not knowing
your purpose of why you are in college is a issue. It 's time that people realize that college can
make you or break you if you don't know what you are after. College may be for those who know
why they 're going to college. They have a general idea of what they want to do and will stop at

My Experience As A New College Student Essay
As I wrap up my first semester of my freshman year of college, I begin to think back on my very
new experience as a new college student. Between living in a dorm versus my comfortable home
and the sudden increase in independence, college life was a brand new experience entirely. To
me, it was almost like living a totally new life. However, I have always considered myself
versatile and adaptable, so the transition to dorm life was not as stressful for me as it may have
been to my peers, which allowed me to focus much more easily on my studies. Looking back on
ENG 202, I now know that while I am versatile in taking on different literary theories and
remaining consistent, my time management leaves much to be desired. I chose the English major
itself due to my passion for languages, as well as my aspiration to teach English as a foreign
language. My focus on linguistics, however, results in an attitude of "I just have to get through these
requirements and then I can get to the meat of what I'm interested in" towards most English major
requirements. So, when I signed up for ENG 202, I did not even look up the course description on
the website. "Introduction to English Studies" was pretty self–explanatory, to me. I thought the
course would simply be an overarching look at the devices of the English subject, such as grammar
and literary analysis. I did not even know there were different ways to examine pieces of literature.
My simple belief was that almost all analyses of texts

Today's world economies are so tied together and react to one another that only the brightest and
smartest will survive. The better educated a student is in the specific career that they have chosen to
earn a degree in will give them the educated edge so that they can out compete with foreign markets.
President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will
out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are.
By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the

that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously

are winning the race to prepare students in math and science," (Dillon). The better colleges prepare
students to edge out competitors in the world market needs to be their priority. Secondly the

Reflective Essay on College Writing
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the
semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up
to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually
demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college
has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a

not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free

I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all
until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the
endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite
section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the
most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just
how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many
levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery
in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical
with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from
that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place.
The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I
began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and
looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very
useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles
dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous

Stress Among College Students Essay examples

expectations they have to live up to in order to fulfill and satisfy the needs of both their parents and
society. Stress is expressed through a variety of symptoms that can be hazardous to student's physical

sleep deprived, which impairs mental capacity, but sleep deprivation is only one of a vast array of

According to Lupien, McEwan, Gunnar, and Heim (2009), going off to college involves significant
adjustments to their daily routines; sleeping and eating habits, time–management skills, and stress
levels will be altered in one way or another. First–year students have to adjust to the new school
environment, different social settings, and new schedules, all without the help and guidance from
their parents, who have been there for them for eighteen years. Over 30% of college freshman
report that they feel overwhelmed (Klainberg, Ewing, & Ryan, 2010), where some students even
opt to work as they juggle their class and work schedules. Some students work at a job or study
harder than others, but they are all trying to get degrees so maybe one day they will have
meaningful and significant lives. It is a constant struggle for everyone who is trying desperately to
make him or herself into a success. And every college student wants to be involved in society in a
positive manner, allowing contribution of their ideals and values to others. Stress in college is
caused by many other influencing factors. One of these important factors would have to be the
expectations set by parents. They are normally the reason students are in college, so pleasing them
by getting good grades is almost mandatory. The thought of displeasing out parents can be
detrimental to our thought process; meaning that it most likely would cause impaired

Although a person in college can have a job, that person cannot work as much as someone who is
not in college. At first this is a positive for not going to college because that would mean more
money for the people not going to college. That is true but over years; the people with a college
degree will end up with more money because of the higher annual salaries. The benefits of a
college degree are not just for money, but also a college degree will also give a person more
career options. A person with a college degree will have more career options than someone
without a college degree because employers will see that one has a college degree and think that
person knows what to do and can do the job well. Employers want the best person for the job and

Life Of A College Student Essay
Time sure does fly by! It feels as if it was just yesterday when we threw our graduation caps up in
the air. What will our future hold after we enter the next chapter in our lives? Many are
encouraged, debating, or even forced to enter their new chapter into the life of a college student.
High school graduates are given limited options in the generation we live in today. We grow up to
believe that success comes with the development of education as you grow from a pre–schooler to
an adult. Many don't continue their education because they don't want to live off of a piece of paper
their entire life. Parents and teachers influence students to continue their education after high school;
it increases their chances for the future career they pursue. Graduates should continue their education
because they gain independence, knowledge, and creates financial stability.
Several students who have part time jobs believe they make enough money; therefore, they don 't
consider being open–minded of future careers ahead of them. An example of a job that influences
young adults to believe that they make enough money to maintain their lives already are factories
like Walmart DC. Those students may be influenced by their parents because their mother or father
didn't continue their education either while still conserving enough money in their savings account.
Parents are role models to their kids whereas having motivation will only inspire students for further
success. Some may think that they

hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College

differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and

Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a
community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the
same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice,
students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community
college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be
able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer
to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can
pursue their four–year degree.
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from
teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask
questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community
colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from
high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a
University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the
majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees

complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course
this past semester, so I did not want to take another stressful class that I find to not be my
strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as
bad as it is said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being
a part time student and working full time is a lot to balance on ones plate. I have learned that
from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to
reverse once you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a
math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will give me more time at work and
more time to study. This sums up the reasons I chose to complete English 102. I hope to gain more
writing experience in

My Dreams For College
Every kid dreams of college. Then as your go throughout school, family, friends, sports and other
things just get in the way of life, college becomes a just a little worry. As your grow and move up
in school, high school hit you in the face. First, you're a freshman, then a sophomore, then a junior,
and then finally a senior. I never truly believed when people would tell me that high school goes by
fast, but it does and it did. When I was a freshman college crossed my mind and then it left. Fast
forward to junior year and senior year the thought of college was around the corner. Everything I did
to prepare for college was very last minute. How was I prepared for college? My dream for college
slowly faded.
Around the time of my junior year high school my father lost his job, and things when downhill
from there. All four of my siblings attended a private school, Parkview Adventist Academy in
Oklahoma, City. Any parent who knows how private school works knows that it costs a lot of
money just for a student to go there. Well imagine four kids attending private school. So money got
tight and we were barely meeting every month tuition. We eventually found a sponsor and that
helped us a little. My senior of high school my God a job, and finishing out high school was
looking promising again. But now it was the start of applying and looking for which college college
to attend. My two options for college were Southwestern Adventist University and Oakwood
Adventist University. It took

My Experience As A College Student Essay
Introduction I have enjoyed the opportunity to be an active student in this class. I have been
delighted to be able to speak in open discussions during lecture and I wish that more professors
practiced this method. The objective of this paper is for me to demonstrate an understanding of my
learning experiences through the information that I have learned over the duration of this course. I
have chosen to focus on my experience as a college student as the main topic of my self–assessment.
Many topic discussions in class have given me insight to the way that humans obtain and process
information. The class sessions on confirmation basis, critical thinking and sleep were all very
relatable to a returning college student like me. In the previous assessment, I discussed these key
elements in detail regarding how I maintained a balance of normality in my life. In this paper, I will
explain self–regulation and how the intrinsic method, extrinsic method, adaptation, and
self–actualization all relate to learning as a college student. Past School Experience As anyone
could imagine making the decision to return to school was not an easy one. I had been out of
college since December of 2011. The last college that I attended was the University of Phoenix. I
attended the ground campus in Sandy Springs, GA and the hour commute was killing me. Although
I only attended school once a week the amount of time that was required for me to put into my class
assignments was horrendous. I was

Example Of College Essay

  • 1. My Journey to College Essay My Journey to College I first came to the university during spring break of my junior year of high school. At the time I was just visiting the three main universities in Arizona so that I would be able to make an educated decision as to where I wanted to get my college education. There were many events showing me the way to this university and little did I know that these events would come upon me and that they would show me the doors to the place where I was truly meant to be. I had a small thought in mind of becoming a chef or something else in the hospitality field. My mom had heard about NAU's hospitality college and informed me that it was within the top ten. During our visit to NAU we met with and...show more content... I then had the dilemma of deciding which dorm I wanted to apply for. This was a large decision for me seeing as how I had never moved in my life and how this would be my new home for the next year. I chose Rielly Hall which was the best I could do by looking at pictures online. After being accepted my mom and I made another visit up to NAU so that I could see the university with different eyes, eyes that new this was where the journey of my life was heading next. We arrived at NAU and I was very excited to be on campus once again but with a completely new perspective. I met with an HRM advisor and talked a little more about the program. At that time I learned all about their study abroad program. From that information I decide that I wanted not to just be a hotel and restaurant major but that I wanted to be a full International Hospitality major. This was going to be a little more work than my original plan but I would get to study abroad and experience so much culture. After my meeting with the HRM advisor we headed over to the dorms to check them out. I ended up walking past Sechrist Hall first and was approached by an NAU student who seemed to be about a Junior and was an RA on one of the floors. As he approached me he said "Would you like me to show you around the building". Even Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Expectations And Expectations In College Expectations and Goals As a new freshman, the next four years of my life can seem extremely daunting, with huge possibilities as to the kind of person that I want to be when I graduate. College is known as a transformation period in the life of a young adult, and I hope to take full advantage of this time. By setting expectations and goals for myself, hopefully I can be successful as I seek out the person that God wants me to be. I have set up, and outlined, academic, spiritual, and personal goals to achieve my first semester here at college. For this semester, I have set a high expectation for myself academically. Specifically, I would like to be able to maintain all A's, and therefore a 4.0 GPA. If I am able to do this, and possibly continue it on through all eight semesters of my college career, I will be a more competitive applicant for PA school, or med school, or whatever post undergraduate schooling that my future entails. Not only would achieving this goal be beneficial to my future career, I hope to honor Christ by working hard in everything that I do, and this is one way that I can do that. This goal is measurable because I can regularly check my grades to make sure that I am staying on track with each class to attain this goal. I believe that getting all A's is also achievable is I remained focused and driven, delegating ahead of time the study time that I will need to be successful in each of my classes. For each hour that I spend in a class, I will plan on spending at least three hours outside of class with the covered material to be successful. This can be realistic if I am careful to make sure that I don't commit myself too heavily to extracurricular activities. While I will be checking my grades weekly, half–way through the semester I will evaluate my study strategies, and whether they were successful or need to be changed to stay on target. Ultimately, I would like to see myself meet this goal at the end of the semester and carry the habits that I have learned to the rest of my college career. Spiritually, I know that this time is quintessential in the establishing of my faith and walk with Christ. My goal is to set habits and practices for myself that will help me grow spiritually. • 3. How will college change my life "How will college change my life?" Colleges are institutions of higher learning; I would go to college simply to make more money. College could be described as a rite of passage, where future working men and women step out from sheltered childhood lives into an independent place of learning. It is different from the original schooling most children receive as there is a more in–depth workload that requires more studying. College will change my life as I am open to many fields of study, expanding my mind and giving a glimpse of what to expect when I step out into the working world. Flexibility with learning and providing me with the option to choose what interests me, being treated as an adult by taking responsibility for one's own actions...show more content... As college students, we as students must have a fierce ambition to accomplish a balance between a healthy, steady social life and a bright academic future. Communication is an important tool in life, not just inside college that broadens our horizons and makes us more intelligent generally. The future working men and women who enter college are adults and will be treated as such. An adult is one who has matured to know what is right and what is wrong. The importance of a rule is a line between right and wrong that many places including colleges have as a guiding tool. College students who enter are expected to follow rules as the rules are meant to protect us and set a guideline. Adults also know how to be self–sufficient, being able to do their work, without anyone's help or stealing someone else's work: plagiarism. College is where we are expected to perform to the best of our abilities because as students we have a fierce ambition to get ahead by earning a degree. College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I'm an adult and expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can develop life skills outside academics, to be fully Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. College: Is It Worth It? Essay We are told to "go to college" by family, media, and teachers, but we are never given an explanation on why it's important for us to get a higher education. The importance of higher education is so we can obtain a career that can support our needs and wants. It's also important because it gives you an advantage when trying to get a job. Employers require a higher form of education, which is necessary for our society to advance. There aren't many jobs that accept people with a high school diploma as their highest form of education. Employers want people that know what they're doing, and so does our society. In order for people to go into the career field they want, they need to go to college to learn everything that comes with that career....show more content... What we get out of the college experience, we use in our day to day lives. Even the things we think aren't important or useful end up becoming helpful. The material we learn in college is fundamental when it comes jobs and life in general. We are taught to make choices. We are taught how the real world works, and how to turn our education into our way of life. "...the really significant education in thinking that we're supposed to get in a place like this isn't really about the capacity to think, but rather about the choice of what to think about." (Wallace 199). Not only do we get a lot out of getting a college degree in what we want to do, but so does our society. There are requirements for every job for a reason. Jobs need people that specialize in just that career field. They want us to be passionate about what we do and more importantly know exactly what we are doing. For example, hospitals have no room for mistakes because not only may it cost a life, it can also costs them money. We feel safer knowing people know how to do their jobs right. College education is necessary whenever there is a shortage in certain careers. It's important to have higher education so there can be growth and competition in our society. It takes money to make money. It does cost a lot to pay for college, but in the end it's worth it. By the end of the college process, we can have a college degree and could be getting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." You may ask is college necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus before and they are doing better than others that have their master's degree. There are many views from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to feel that the have to go to college because, "it...show more content... They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. One goal that I seem to have not truly focused on has been my college education. Considering all things, I decided I needed to focus on my college education. The first thing I needed to accomplish was to enroll in an institution for higher learning. Now that my enrollment is complete, I am an official student at the University enrolled in the undergraduate program for business management. As a student at the university, I now have to set personal goals so that I will be successful in my endeavors. My personal goals are to gain personal growth and development and graduate from my undergraduate program in business...show more content... The most important to me while attending the University is to graduate with honors. I know that I have the potential and what it takes to accomplish this. In order to graduate with honors I will have to study and prioritize, taking my education seriously. By taking my academic affairs seriously and being a positive influence on myself, I know that I will achieve my goals. This means that I will have to complete all assignments, assuring accuracy and the quality of my work. Assuring that I complete all assignments, I will also need to do all assignments before they are due. This will allow me time to make sure that all corrections are done prior to me turning the assignments in. To help me along my journey to success, I have made two colorful, eye catching boards that I will allow myself to look at everyday. The first goal board that I have is a weekly board that I will use for each class. On this board I will have my individual weekly assignments and my team weekly assignments with start and due dates. Also I will have contact numbers and email addresses for people who will benefit me in my course. This would include all my classmates, teammates, and instructor. As I complete an assignment I will draw a line through that assignment. The second board that I have displays all my overall personal goals. • 7. Pros And Cons Of College Essay As pounded in our heads by teachers and adults, after high school the best idea is to go to college. This may not be the case for everyone. There are many pros and cons for college. College is not for everyone, and I believe students should have the freedom to choose the path they take. For people who desire to acquire a well paying job, a degree may be required. Most data points that the fastest growing job categories require at least a college degree. Getting a degree can be as simple as going for 2 years or even 6. Getting a college degree will draw employers attention and gain respect. Some people who have a degree may get paid more at their job than others who do not. Expanding your knowledge is important as there is always more to learn. In my opinion, college is the best idea for any age student. When planning your future, you can decide between a two–year community college or a four–year university. You can base your decision depending on your career field or job you want to pursue. Some jobs may not even require a degree, in which college is unnecessary. Some jobs may only require an associate's degree, so why waste your money at a university. Some may say that the experience at a four–year university is critical to growing up. Mr. Perlstein states, "the college experience– a rite of passage as it was meant to be– must have come to an end." Rick Perlstein believes that the four–year experience is meaningful. • 8. College Admission Essay: My Love for Learning I dreamt of walking on Commonwealth Ave. I envisioned myself entering the Morse Auditorium, books in hand, eager to learn. Ever since I had visited the eclectic city of Boston in 2006, I knew it was the right fit for me. I knew that the city itself, along with the remarkable academic resources that Boston University offers would allow me to grow socially and mentally. Until this day I ask questions on end from my comrades at the BU, impatient to learn more and more about their lives on and off campus. From all the feedback I have received I have come to one conclusion: BU is the place where I will get a rich, broad background in all my studies. BU will give me the foundation and preparation I will need to enter any field of study. There...show more content... But to me, in order to be ethical it is imperative for one to facilitate and help the society in which one resides in. For this reason I have set myself on various missions to help those in need. Traveling to Israel, I volunteered in soup kitchens and hospitals, in orphanages and in an Ethiopian absorption center. I also aided in the building of a bomb shelter. Traveling to London, I helped out at the St. Bartholomew's Hospital. Traveling to New Orleans, I volunteered at a mobile medical clinic. Consequently, I believe I am truly an ethical person. Curious. • 9. Personal Growth in College Essay So far, the college experience has made me a changed person. College changed me into a better person on many occasions. I have learned to be more responsible, when it comes down to getting work done. In college you must be responsible. I have also changed my attitude. Moving from high school to college is a big step; if you don't change your ways for the better then you might not be successful in college. When you reach college then is the time that you become an adult. First off, the college life has changed me for the better. I am much more responsible in many different ways. I had to change my study habits, or should I say I have to get study habits. I high school I never studied, because everything came so easy to me and I could just...show more content... That's just one example, there are many more. Another reason college is a big step is because you're on your own, and you don't have nobody to tell you what to do, you make your own decisions when it has to deal with getting up early in the morning to go to class, you have your parents or anyone to wake you up, it's a big step, you just have to stay focus. Third of all, you have to change your attitude toward school. You have to want to finish school; you have to think about the money you are spending to go to school. For example you are paying for every class you take and if you fail a class then you are paying for the same class again. College is a major step from high school. I personally wasn't ready for college, but this being my second year I understand what I have to do to finish school. • 11. My Experience As A New College Student Essay As I wrap up my first semester of my freshman year of college, I begin to think back on my very new experience as a new college student. Between living in a dorm versus my comfortable home and the sudden increase in independence, college life was a brand new experience entirely. To me, it was almost like living a totally new life. However, I have always considered myself versatile and adaptable, so the transition to dorm life was not as stressful for me as it may have been to my peers, which allowed me to focus much more easily on my studies. Looking back on ENG 202, I now know that while I am versatile in taking on different literary theories and remaining consistent, my time management leaves much to be desired. I chose the English major itself due to my passion for languages, as well as my aspiration to teach English as a foreign language. My focus on linguistics, however, results in an attitude of "I just have to get through these requirements and then I can get to the meat of what I'm interested in" towards most English major requirements. So, when I signed up for ENG 202, I did not even look up the course description on the website. "Introduction to English Studies" was pretty self–explanatory, to me. I thought the course would simply be an overarching look at the devices of the English subject, such as grammar and literary analysis. I did not even know there were different ways to examine pieces of literature. My simple belief was that almost all analyses of texts Get more content on HelpWriting.net

President Barack Obama said "In this kind of economy, countries who out–educate us today will out–compete us tomorrow. Already, China is graduating eight times as many engineers as we are. By 12th grade, our children score lower on math and science tests than most other kids in the world," ("Full"). American colleges need to do a better job at improving math and science scores so that the graduating student can better compete in the world market Asian countries are continuously outperforming American students. • 13. Reflective Essay on College Writing Reflective Essay on College Writing This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the timerestraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I...show more content... I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place. The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous Get more content on HelpWriting.net

According to Lupien, McEwan, Gunnar, and Heim (2009), going off to college involves significant adjustments to their daily routines; sleeping and eating habits, time–management skills, and stress levels will be altered in one way or another. Over 30% of college freshman report that they feel overwhelmed (Klainberg, Ewing, & Ryan, 2010), where some students even opt to work as they juggle their class and work schedules. They are normally the reason students are in college, so pleasing them by getting good grades is almost mandatory. • 16. Life Of A College Student Essay Time sure does fly by! It feels as if it was just yesterday when we threw our graduation caps up in the air. What will our future hold after we enter the next chapter in our lives? Many are encouraged, debating, or even forced to enter their new chapter into the life of a college student. High school graduates are given limited options in the generation we live in today. We grow up to believe that success comes with the development of education as you grow from a pre–schooler to an adult. Many don't continue their education because they don't want to live off of a piece of paper their entire life. Parents and teachers influence students to continue their education after high school; it increases their chances for the future career they pursue. Graduates should continue their education because they gain independence, knowledge, and creates financial stability. Several students who have part time jobs believe they make enough money; therefore, they don 't consider being open–minded of future careers ahead of them. An example of a job that influences young adults to believe that they make enough money to maintain their lives already are factories like Walmart DC. Those students may be influenced by their parents because their mother or father didn't continue their education either while still conserving enough money in their savings account. Since most of the same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice, students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can pursue their four–year degree. Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. • 18. The Dreaded English Class The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of the way now, I look to fine–tune my writing skills, and I expect this course to help me understand my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course this past semester, so I did not want to take another stressful class that I find to not be my strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as bad as it is said to be. That is what pushed me to sign up and attempt to complete this course. Being a part time student and working full time is a lot to balance on ones plate. I have learned that from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to reverse once you find yourself struggling to pay bills. Seeing that this class isn't as costly as a math course, and isn't as time restraining either. This course will give me more time at work and more time to study. This sums up the reasons I chose to complete English 102. I hope to gain more writing experience in Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My dream for college slowly faded. Around the time of my junior year high school my father lost his job, and things when downhill from there. All four of my siblings attended a private school, Parkview Adventist Academy in Oklahoma, City. Any parent who knows how private school works knows that it costs a lot of money just for a student to go there. Well imagine four kids attending private school. I have been delighted to be able to speak in open discussions during lecture and I wish that more professors practiced this method. The objective of this paper is for me to demonstrate an understanding of my learning experiences through the information that I have learned over the duration of this course. I have chosen to focus on my experience as a college student as the main topic of my self–assessment. Many topic discussions in class have given me insight to the way that humans obtain and process information. The class sessions on confirmation basis, critical thinking and sleep were all very relatable to a returning college student like me. In the previous assessment, I discussed these key elements in detail regarding how I maintained a balance of normality in my life. In this paper, I will explain self–regulation and how the intrinsic method, extrinsic method, adaptation, and self–actualization all relate to learning as a college student. Past School Experience As anyone could imagine making the decision to return to school was not an easy one. I had been out of college since December of 2011. The last college that I attended was the University of Phoenix. I attended the ground campus in Sandy Springs, GA and the hour commute was killing me. Although I only attended school once a week the amount of time that was required for me to put into my class assignments was horrendous. I was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
