What Students Want
Leave me Alone, I’m
Socializing
By: Kara Richardson
Although technology is great thing
to use in the classroom, especially
as it grows. These new advances can
be distracting to the students from
what they should really be doing at
school, learning.
Clip Art
The more students learn about
new technologies the more they
are use in and out of the
classroom.
Some parents are wondering if
when using these technologies
the students are paying more
attention to the computer or
other high tech tools instead
of what they are supposed to
be learning.
Over time the amount of
technology used in the class
room has grown significantly,
especially in these last few
years.
In a classroom students can
easily navigate away from what
they are working on to another
less productive site.
Clip Art
To prevent things
like students going on to
inappropriate websites or playing
games, schools should block
certain sites to help students stay
focused on what they need to be
doing.

In the article, Leave me Alone,
I’m Socializing by Neal
Starkman, a survey of students
in different grade levels was
taken to see what young people
were mostly using this
technology for.
While some students claimed
they used these new technologies
for homework and educational
purposes,
most used it
for socializing
and playing
games.Clip Art
Although the growth of technology
in our schools is a great, thing
what is used in the classroom
needs to be monitored and used
for the sole purpose of teaching.

Editor's Notes

  1. Although technology is great thing to use in the classroom, especially as it grows. These new advances can be distracting to the students from what they should really be doing at school, learning.
  2. Children of all ages are starting to become engaged in new technology's at younger and younger ages. Because of this more schools are incorporating these technology's into the classrooms and the teaching of different subjects. Although these new technologies are great tools to have and a positive outlook to this new generation, can it be taking the top spot in schools over learning?
  3. Some parents are wondering if when using these technologies the students are paying more attention to the computer or other high tech tools more than what they are supposed to be learning. Teachers even seem to be focusing more on the technology part of some subjects in school which can become confusing to some students as more and more is piled on.
  4. Over time the amount of technology used in the class room has grown significantly, especially in these last few years.
  5. In a classroom students can easily navigate away from what they are working on to another less productive site. Also children this can be more challenging for students that need to see it being done in real life or hear it out loud to grasp the concept trying to be learned over a computer or other technology.
  6. To prevent things like students going on to inappropriate websites or playing games, schools should block certain sites to help students stay focused on what they need to be doing.
  7. In the article, Leave me Alone, I’m Socializing by Neal Starkman, a survey of students in different grade levels was taken to see what young people were mostly using this technology for
  8. While some students claimed they used these new technologies for homework and educational purposes, most used it for socializing and playing games, not school related.
  9. Although the growth of technology in our schools is a great thing, what is used in the classroom needs to be monitored and used for the sole purpose of teaching.
