The idea that same same–sex relationships in marriage are mandated by society is hard to fathom,
even in today's society. To understand the depth and meaning of this one must look at all aspects.
The political and religious stance on the subject takes in no consideration of the individuals
seeking the change. For years these people have fought in and out of court for the same rights as
everyone else. At the same time they are denied these basic rights in many states. They are fighting
for their rights. Their ability to be happy and to legally say they are bound to another. It is society's

These types of relations have been frowned upon; publicly, politically, and religiously. Though these
types of relations have been documented in religious history, it's primarily a cultural bias stemming
from religious beliefs. The church has always stood firm on the fact that same–sex union of any kind
are wrong, and yet the bible has many recorded and glorified stories of just such a relationship.
These relationships are documented in the book of Ruth, Samuel, and Daniel. How one interprets
the books determines whether that person has a conservative or liberal viewpoint. These views on
the subject are what influence the acceptance or rejection of a lifestyle. These influences or views
can be governed by genetic make–up, adolescent encoding, and life experiences. These form the
basis for what a person believes to be true. "The Bible describes three emotionally close
relationships between two people of the same gender. They appear to have progressed well beyond

Although the gay community makes up a small percentage of the American population, they have
and will be very influential in our society. Our society sets many standards for people to live by,
but often times these standards evolve through time in such a way that no one can predict.
Slavery serves as a good example: A survey done in the 1700's of the American colonies would
probably reveal a majority of people felt slavery was alright, some might have even pointed out
that Christians used slavery in the past, as mentioned in the bible. Slowly the black population,
who was clearly the minority, gained more and more support for freedom. While there are still
Americans who do not see the black community as equals, it is safe to say that society as a whole
believes discrimination against blacks is wrong.
While slavery is far more extreme of an issue than homosexuality, the two have some things in
common. For example, during the civil war there were Americans on one side that supported an
amendment to ban slavery and those on the other side who opposed it. Today there are citizens who
support an amendment to ban same sex marriages just as there are those who are against legislation.
Even though the black community sought out the slavery amendment and the gay community is
trying to stop the amendment to ban same sex marriage, both minorities were trying to change a

Analysis Of Same Sex Marriage
Marriage is now commonly defined as a 'legally or formally recognized union of two partners in a
personal relationship'. However, this is commonly associated in society as a union from which
children are conceived. Same sex marriage is often then seen as unnatural as children cannot be
conceived natural and is this deemed unnatural and is 'contrary to the ordinary course of nature'. I
disagree with this argument because homosexual people don't choose to be gay and therefore I don't
think that his is unnatural. Whilst same sex couples can't have children naturally within marriage, I
don't think that the purpose of marriage is to have children and therefore I see no reason why same
sex marriage isn't natural.
In Leviticus, it says that 'You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination'.
According to Aquinas, this then means that same sex marriage is unnatural because it goes
against Divine law as it is contrary to the messages portrayed in the Bible. Aquinas argues that
one of the primary precepts of life is to reproduce and therefore same sex marriage is unnatural
because same sex couples can't reproduce naturally, and goes against the idea that reproduction is
